With the NBA season over, fans all over the world might be looking for a basketball league to help relieve their basketball itch. If you are one of those fans, then Big3 basketball might be perfect for you.

Started by famous celebrity Ice Cube, Big3 basketball offers basketball fans with a chance to watch competitive 3-on-3 basketball games with former NBA players using a variety of unique rules that make this league extremely different than any other basketball league in the world. Some of these rules include a four point shot and a “win by 2” rule.

In total, there are eight teams within the league and each team contains a head coach, a team captain and a team co-captain. Every captain was a well-known NBA player earlier in their respective careers. Some of which include Allen Iverson, Rashard Lewis and Mike Bibby. Each team has a roster of five active players and one reserve. Every player, except the team captains and co-captains, was selected via draft on April 30.

One potential issue regarding this league is its lack of live broadcasting. Every game that is being aired on Fox Sports 1 tonight was actually played yesterday at the Barclays Center. This can be potentially problematic in a social media-driven society where people can easily release the results of each game prior to its airing on television. As much as I enjoy the play-by-play broadcasting of Gus Johnson, the fact that each game is on tape delay can be a potential deal breaker.

Overall, I expect this league to be a nice change of pace from regular basketball. In my life, I have always supported new leagues in sports including the XFL and Slamball. This league might also hold added significance due to the adoption of 3-on-3 basketball in the 2020 Olympic games. If this league succeeds, then perhaps some of its rules can be used in the Olympics.

Regardless of whether or not the league succeeds or not, the debut of Big3 basketball is definitely worth watching.
