Layla El was my all-time favorite WWE diva for almost a decade. On June 25th, 1977, the world welcomed Layla Young, a baby that would grow into a goddess. Lyla is the final WWE Women’s Champion before the title was re-introduced in 2016.
Ms. Young began her career as a dancer, first starting on carnival cruises and then spending two years with the Miami Heat. She also flaunted her stuff on the stage at the MTV Music Video Awards.
In 2006, Layla hit the big-time when she won the $250,000 Diva Search competition. The English-Moroccan bombshell stayed with the company for almost a decade. She managed the likes of The Miz, William Regal, Fandango, and Jamie Noble.
Her partnership with Michelle McCool in 2009 was simply legendary. LayCool blazed the trails for women’s wrestling long before the likes of Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch or Sasha Banks entered a WWE ring. LayCool dominated WWE’s female division as modern day queens of the ring.
