Michael Dwayne Boddie, father of former NFL quarterback Michael Vick, is one of 11 charged with crimes relating to heroin distribution and money laundering. Boddie, 55, of Hampton, Virginia, was named in an indictment unsealed yesterday.
What Happened?
Boddie was named in a federal indictment along with 11 others over heroin distribution and money laundering charges. Vick, who was found guilty for operating an unlawful dogfighting ring ten years ago, retired earlier this year after 13 seasons in the NFL.
Seven of the 12 people listed in the indictment have made appearances at the U.S. District Court in Norfolk, Virginia, but Boddie remains at large, according to The Virginian-Pilot. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) led the investigation out of the Homeland Security Investigations branch. The alleged conspiracy took place between 2014 to 2017 and involved more than a kilogram of heroin, the indictment states.
Previous reports claimed that Boddie is estranged from his sons.
Marcus Vick, another son who also played for Virginia Tech and has had multiple run ins with the law, was charged with possession of ecstasy in Newport News last year. His charge is still pending.

Michael Vick, 36, played for the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers. He took the NFL by storm as an electric running quarterback for the Falcons from 2001 to 2006 after the team selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in 2001. During that time, Vick was named to three Pro Bowls and was considered one of the most impressive players in the league.
But at 27-years-old, he was jailed for 18 months after being found guilty of running a dogfighting ring.
