Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan, has been evacuated after a police officer was stabbed.

What Happened?

A police officer has been stabbed at Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan and is in critical condition. Fox News reports that one suspect is in custody.

The officer has been identified as Lt. Jeff Neville and the suspect is believed to be Canadian. It is possible that this incident was terror-related as the suspect may have shouted “Allahu Akbar” before stabbing the officer multiple times.

A witness told MLive that he saw a man detained near a knife and an officer on his knees bleeding from the neck.

“The cop was on his hands and knees bleeding from his neck,” said Ken Brown, who was dropping his daughter off at the airport. “I said they need to get him a towel.”

More than 20 police vehicles from Flint, Burton, Michigan State Police and other agencies responded to the incident. The FBI is the lead agency in the case, according to MSP. All passengers are reportedly safe and an evacuation began around 9:40 A.M. local time.

Flint City Hall is operating under heightened security following the attack.

“Right now we are still awaiting more information about the situation at Bishop Airport this morning,” Flint Mayor Karen Weaver said. “My thoughts and prayers are with all of our law enforcement officers who work to service and protect us each and every day. I want the public to know that several agencies are involved and working to ensure the situation is under control. However, at this time we are taking extra precautions just to be safe.”

People planning to fly from Bishop today are asked to contact their airline for potential cancelations or delays.

No other details are available at this time.
