David Suzki Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario, is currently on lockdown following a report of a possibly armed man. Peel Police are on the scene investigating.

UPDATE: Peel Police say that David Suzuki Secondary School has been cleared and the lockout has been lifted.

What Happened?

The Peel Region Police are warning parents and students to avoid the area after a report of a possibly armed man came in. According to CTV Toronto, the possibly armed individual is in the area but not on school grounds.

Police continue to search the school as the lockdown remains in place nearly one hour after the initial report.

“It was reported there was a male in the interior of the school potentially armed,” said Const. Lori Murphy of Peel Regional Police.

The report has yet to be confirmed as it is still unknown if the man in question is armed with a firearm or another type of weapon. In addition to David Suzuki, Springbrooke CES, McClure PES, Our Lady of Peace CES and Walden International School are also on hold and secure, according to Peel Police.

Police have set up a staging area to update parents and media on the southwest corner of Queen Street West and Chinguacousy Road nearby. They are also inspecting every room, according to Murphy.

No other details were immediately available.


David Suzuki Secondary School

David Suzuki Secondary School is a high school in Ontario, Canada, that serves grades 9-12. The school is named after Canadian environmental activist David Suzki. In association with the Credit Valley Conservation Authority, the school offers the Ontario curriculum in a program that is rich in environmental studies and models sustainable practices. The school is also distinguished by the high level of computer technology available in school and utilized in classes. Total enrollment is 1,850 and the current principal is Leslie Grant.

The school is bounded by Queen Street West, Hurontario Street, Bovaird Drive West, and Mississauga Road. It was founded in 2011.
