Darren Osborne Identified As The Assailant In The Finsbury Park Mosque Attack

Darren Osborne, a 47-year-old Cardiff man, has been arrested for allegedly running his van into pedestrians outside of a mark in Finsbury Park, London. One victim has died and at least 10 others were injured after a van plowed into a group of people near a north London mosque.

Osborne 47, was a held by civilians bystanders until police arrived to arrest him. Reports indicate that the people inside of the Finsbury Park mosque who were hit had just broken their fast.

According to witnesses, upon exiting the vehicle, Osborne allegedly was yelled ‘I’m going to kill all Muslims – I did my bit’ and smiled, waved and blew kisses at the public.

Police have carried out a search at an address in a cul-de-sac in the Llanedeyrn area, close to Cardiff golf club in the north-east of the city suburbs.

Police were on Monday searching an address in a cul-de-sac in the Llanedeyrn area, close to Cardiff golf club in the north-east of the city suburbs.

He was not known to the government according to Ben Wallace, the security minister. “What I can say on this case is this individual, so far as we know at the moment, was not known to us, but we are aware of a rise in the far right,” said Wallace.

“This was quite clearly an attack on Muslims who looked like they were probably Muslims and they were coming from a prayer meeting,” said the Met police commissioner, Cressida Dick. “We treat this as a terrorist attack and we in the Met are as shocked as anybody in this local community or across the country at what has happened.”

The Metropolitan Police confirmed there were casualties. Part of Seven Sisters Road was closed as the operation and investigation continued. According to images from Twitter, the van used in the attacked was rented from a company called Pontyclun Van Hire.

Security Minister Ben Wallace said that the man was not known to security services before the attack. He has been charged with attempted murder and suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism.

This was the fourth terror attack in the England in four months, following incidents in Westminster, Manchester and on the London Bridge.


What Happened?

On the night of Sunday, June 18, allegedly drove a van into a group of people outside of a mosque in London’s Finsbury Park neighborhood. The 47-year-old Osborne was allegedly held by civilians at the scene until police arrived. He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

After a van ploughed into a group of people in Finsbury Park, members of the public wrestled the suspect to the ground. An imam from the Muslim Welfare House then urged the crowd to remain calm.

The imam was named by the Muslim Welfare House as Mohammed Mahmoud. In a statement Toufik Kacimi, the mosque and welfare centre’s chief executive, praised Mahmoud’s bravery which he said “helped calm the immediate situation after the incident and prevented further injuries and potential loss of life”.

Footage from mobile phones at the scene when Osborne was being held on the ground captures the voice of a man shouting: “No one touch him – no one! No one!”


Who Is Darren Osborne?

Darren Osborne, a 47-year-old father of four, has been identified as the man responsible for the attack at the mosque in Finsbury Park that left one dead and multiple injured.

Osborne was born in Singapore and his mother, sister and nephew live in Weston-super-Mare, a Somerset seaside town.
