Ari Schultz, a 5-year-old boy who has been in Boston Children’s Hospital for over six months due to a heart transplant, is finally headed on.
On March 3, Ari received a heart transplant, however, it wasn’t until Wednesday that he received news that he will finally be going home.
According to SB Nation, Schultz was diagnosed with critical aortic stenosis and evolving hypoplastic left heart syndrome during the second trimester of his mother’s pregnancy. This is what led to his eventual need for a heart transplant, which kept him in the hospital for 189 days.
But now, not only is Ari headed home, but he’s invited to go cheer on his favorite team, too.

Pete Frates, the former Boston College baseball star whose fight against ALS inspired the Ice Bucket Challenge, started the conversation Saturday about attending a game with Ari Schultz.
He was referencing Friday’s news that after a heart transplant, rejection and 189 days in the hospital, 5-year-old Ari Schultz is now home and playing with his siblings. Schultz loves golf, basketball and especially baseball.
A few minutes later, Frates sent another tweet asking if Ari would like to join him for a Red Sox game at Fenway Park. Team President Sam Kennedy saw the conversation and made the invitation official.
Red Sox rookie Andrew Benintendi also chimed in, saying “Can’t wait to see you at Fenway.”
