A tourist resort in Mali is under attack by gunman. Nearby residents say that they heard gunshots at this luxury location. Westerners went to vacation at a beautiful destination in Africa, but then gunmen spoiled the fun.
Update (6/18/17, 5:46 P.M. EST): At least two people have died in the attack. Meanwhile, 32 guests have been rescued. The attackers were jihadists. Government troops battled the gunmen, but according to the security ministry, “one of the terrorists was able to escape, after being injured”.
A spokesman at the security ministry has told Reuters that gunmen have attacked a popular tourist resort in Mali. The ongoing shooting is taking place at Le Campement resort in Dougourakoro, to the east of the nation’s capital Bamako.
Malian troops as well as soldiers from France’s Bakhane counter-terrorist force are on the scene (as you read this).
There hasn’t been any information regarding causalities.
