A New York production of Shakespeare’s ‘Julius Caesar’ came to an abrupt halt after an enraged women stormed the stage, condemning the play for encouraging political violence against the right, particularly President Donald J. Trump. The crowd booed as she yelled out, “Do you want Trump to be assassinated?”
Police have confirmed that this protester’s name is Laura Loomer, and she has been arrested. Loomer is charged with with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. She was released from jail two hours after her arrest, but she must appear in court on August 14th.
“I’m out of jail, but I’m not apologetic,” the 24-year-old wrote on Twitter. “Thanks to everyone who is supporting me & condemning political violence.”
She shouted “Stop leftist violence” as she rushed the stage and triggered a chorus of boos.
But what does this have to do with Donald Trump?
Good question, Brian! In this play, actor Gregg Henry very closely resembles the 45th president of the United States. Henry’s character has fluffy blondish hair. He also wears a suit and had a yuge tie hanging below his whatever.
Julius Caesar is made to look exactly like Donald Trump. And guess what happens in the play? Caesar gets stabbed to death by a pack of senators, including his bff Brutus. So, basically the Trump version of Caesar is scripted to get stabbed up, as per the tradition of the play. However, a Trump-like Julius Caesar is a brand new take and rendition of the Shakespeare classic.
Was Laura Loomer alone in her protest?
Nope. Another audience member was inspired by Laura’s courage. He stood up and spoke out to demonstrate his support for Loomer’s words and actions. The man compared those in attendance to Nazis, saying that “Joesph Gerber would be proud! Gerber would be proud!”
The outraged man added that “The blood of Steve Scalise is on your hands!” Republican House Majority Whip Steve Scalise was critically wounded last week by a gunman inspired to kill Republicans.

What’s the consequences/reactions for the ‘Julius Caesar’ production?
Delta and Bank of America have decided to revoke their sponsorship status for the event, citing the ‘Julius Caesar’ production. This Sunday, will be the last production of the Shakespearean play.
The Public Theater responded to the incident on Twitter. They certainly claim to be “champions” of the First Amendment, yet they describe Friday’s disruption as being “driven by social media.”
They also gave a big thanks to the security for doing their part in neutralizing the disturbance.
And of course, they couldn’t help but make a #hashtag dedicated to the incident. “Help us spread a positive message: #FreeShakespeare.”
Well, so much for Shakespeare In The Park! I wonder if they’ll cast Kathy Griffin for next year…
