Despite the sheer dominance of the Golden State Warriors in the first three games of the series, the never-say-die Cleveland Cavaliers asserted themselves with an emphatic offensive performance in Game 4. Thanks to the dominant 40-point performance from Kyrie Irving, the Cavaliers were able to get into a aggressive rhythm and bombarded the baffled Warriors throughout Game 4.
Coming back to Oracle Arena, the Warriors will look to close out the NBA Finals on their home court while preventing the Cavaliers from accomplishing another unprecedented push for their second straight NBA championship. For the Warriors to put the final nail in the coffin, they will have to be stifling on the defensive end while avoiding careless fouls, especially in the opening minutes of the game. More importantly, the Warriors have to reestablish the frantic pace that allowed them to wear down a inconsistent Cavaliers defense, particularly in transition.
For the Cavaliers, their chances of winning on the road will be predicated on how effective their starting five can be when it comes to scoring. Aside from Tristan Thompson, the starting lineup all scored in double figures, with both Kevin Love and J.R. Smith having their best offensive games of the series. While it’s unlikely that J.R. Smith will be able to do his best Stephen Curry impression again, he will still need to make clutch perimeter shots for the Cavaliers to have a chance at victory in Game 5.
