1954 – 1969
West started off his career as a sidekick on a kid’s show called El Kini Popo Show. He later took over as host of the show. In 1959, the young William West Anderson moved to Hollywood with his wife and two children. Under the bright lights of Hollywood, he took up the stage name of Adam West. And the rest would be history…
Adam appeared in numerous television programs, including westerns, sitcoms, science-fiction, and crime dramas. But West finally hit super-stardom when he was cast as the lead character in the 1966 series Batman. This show inspired a film and lasted for over two years, producing 120 episodes in total.
Batman may have been both a curse and a blessing. His role as the caped crusader typecasted West. Adam’s next film The Girl Who Knew Too Much became a big box office disappointment.
