Earlier today, Marvel Studios released the poster for the upcoming Black Panther to make nerds like myself spaz out in advance of the trailer dropping – which it now has. Well played, Marvel. You successfully monopolized my attention for an entire day. Now if I could only figure out why I don’t have a girlfriend…

Anyway, take a moment to watch the trailer right here.

Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, the king of Wakanda and hero known as Black Panther.

The film, from director Ryan Coogler (Creed), takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War, which introduced Boseman’s T’Challa. The new king faces off against Michael B. Jordan’s villain Killmonger (great name). Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia) and The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira (Okoye) are also among the sprawling cast, as well as Andy Serkis, who reprises his role from Avengers: Age of Ultron as bad guy Ulysses Klaue.

In the modern post-Blade superhero era, Black Panther will be the first comic book blockbuster to feature an African American lead. Yeah, it sucks that it took us this long, but at least with Wonder WomanBlack PantherDC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Captain Marvel, we’re making some progress.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
