Before we get into this, let’s congratulate Matt Barnes on his first NBA Title and then undercut by saying we’re sorry Derek Fisher crashed your car. Maybe you think we’re jumping the gun by crowning the Warriors before the series is over but damn is this not one of the best collection of players we’ve ever seen? Game. Set. Match. Warriors.

Now looking past basketball accomplishments, we should gander at what Matt Barnes has earned in monetary value for the year.

Matt Barnes Net Worth as of 2017: $10 Million

For someone who’s made a career for his on-court confrontations and stingy defense. We’re going to break down how Barnes got here with his many many fines taken into account.

2002-2003

Barnes was drafted 46 overall in the 2002 NBA Draft, contracts for picks that late are non-guaranteed. He was unable to establish himself in the league during this period, traded, waived, signed by the Cavaliers then messed around in Seattle for a month in 2003.

2004-2005

Matt Barnes was able to secure himself a contract with his on again, off again NBA team, the LA Clippers. After two 10 day contracts with the Clippers they decided to sign him for the remainder of the season. The following season, Barnes signed a 1-year $695,000 contract with the Sacramento Kings and then road Chris Webber’s coattails to Philadelphia a few months later.

On his journey to learn about the art of how to ruin a celebrated sports franchise, he signed a contract with the New York Knicks. After six games with the Knicks, Matt Barnes probably threatened so he could abandon ship. They waived him and that’s totally what probably happened. Barnes finished out his season with the 76ers.

Finding a home with the Golden State Warriors, Barnes earned himself a 1-year $771,331 contract with them. Barnes played a pivotal role for the 8th seeded ‘We Believe’ Warriors who upset the 1st seeded Dallas Mavericks, a dark time when Dirk Nowitzki was considered a playoff choker instead of a legend killer he’s known as today.

With another contract on the table from the Warriors, Barnes signed a 1-year $3 million contract.

But Matt Barnes didn’t have the patience to be wasting his time with the Warriors, he signed with the Phoenix Suns hoping to actually contend for a title also making $926,678 for the year sounded pretty sweet too. Unfortunately, the team was plagued with injuries and missed the playoffs. But it wasn’t all doom and gloom, Barnes did earn a two day suspension for his first on-court altercation.

Barnes hopped to Phoenix as he was one of the many fortune forecasters to know that Phoenix’s stars couldn’t stay healthy, at that time was as obvious as predicting the outcome of a freight train barrelling off a cliff.

Orlando was the next stop with Dwight Howard’s Magic signing a  1-year $1.6 million contract with an option to stay for the second year. After being eliminated by the Celtics in the Conference Finals snuck through the back to play for the Lakers, who just won the NBA Title that season. With 2 years and $3.6 million more to his name, this was his window to win a title.

But things could never be that easy for Barnes,  the Lakers were swept that year by Dirk Novitzki’s redeem team. Phil Jackson retired, Pau Gasol had abandonment issues and was never the same, Lamar Odom was traded, died, then was resurrected. Barnes didn’t have time for this bull sh*t, he went to go play with Chris Paul.

Three years and $10.2 million later, Matt Barnes finally found a job with some stability. Now that Barnes finally got his money, the beast inside could finally be released. Barnes stat line was 11.8 points per game on 54% shooting, 5 rebounds per game, and $131,000 worth in fines. Fines that included kicking water bottles at fans and screaming at James Harden’s mother.

Barnes was traded to the Charlotte Hornets in 2015, then immediately flipped to the Grizzlies. Barnes wasn’t done yet as the urban legend goes that Barnes drove 95 miles in 15 minutes to murder Derek Fisher but left once he saw the fear in his eyes. Barnes was suspended for two games and fined $41,676 for the incident but it’s probably the best $41,676 he’s ever spent.

For letting him throw hands on the court whenever he pleases, Barnes generously donated another $69,205 to the NBA.

To make up for the philanthropy, Barnes took the largest contract he could get and the Sacramento Kings thought he’d be perfect for a two-year $12.25 million deal.

Except he wasn’t as they waived him mid-season. But not before Barnes would mark his territory with a $15,000 fine.

But it’s all been leading to tomorrow, taking the minimum amount of $383,000 to play with the team he said he wanted to finish the job with. $256,881 collected in fine of misconduct can’t be for nothing, we’re all rooting for Matt Barnes first NBA title, Kevin Durant didn’t pull up on enough people to get us to care.
