Suspicious Vehicle Reported At Orlando International Airport, Bomb Squad On The Scene

Orlando police, airport security and operations staff are currently responding to a security incident at Orlando International Airport.

According to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, a suspicious vehicle was reported in the parking lot around 9:30 AM on Wednesday, June 7.

The vehicle was reported on the Level 1, A Side of the Main terminal. Airport canine teams and bomb squads are sweeping the area. The Orlando Fire Department says they have 13 units on the scene, including bomb squad and hazmat teams.

The airport is remaining open while authorities investigate, as the investigation is not interfering with airport operations. According to airport spokeswoman Carolyn Fennell, the vehicle was parked “outside of the public area.” She said the investigation was being conducted “out of an abundance of caution.”

The Orlando International Airport released a statement on the incident:

Orlando police, airport security and operations staff are responding to a security incident at Oralndo International Airport.

At approximately 9:30 AM, a suspicious vehicle was reported on Level 1, A Side of the Main Terminal. Airport canine teams are currently sweeping the area.

Mutual aid from local law enforcement agencies is in route to assist Orlando Police and airport personnel with assessing and resolbing the siutation.

An additional update will follow as soon as possible.

The suspicious vehicle comes just a week after Michael Pettigrew, 26, a suicidal man with a fake weapon forced a three-hour standoff at the airport with police.

Pettigrew was eventually arrested by Orlando SWAT members and released on bond last week.
