Stanley Cup Finals Game 3 Live Stream: Watch NHL Finals Online

The Pittsburgh Penguins, led by rookie Jake Guentzel, have taken a commanding 2-0 series lead after scoring nine goals against Predators goalie Pekka Rinne. The Penguins were tied at one goal apiece entering the third period before the floodgates opened. The Penguins scored three goals in the first four minutes of the period including a Guentzel goal just 10 seconds into the period.

The Penguins have also been the beneficiaries of phenomenal goaltending by second-year goalie Matt Murray who stopped 37 of 38 shots in Game 2. After replacing Marc-Andre Fluery as the starting goalie in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Murray is 5-1 and has helped keep the Predators off of the scoreboard.

Murray was a huge reason why the Penguins won the Stanley Cup last season and has proven that Stanley Cup run last season was not a fluke. Murray looks like he can be the Penguins’ starting goalie for a long time and definitely has the opportunity to win more Stanley Cup trophies as his career continues to unfold.

As for the Predators, they should not be disappointed with their play in Pittsburgh. The Predators managed to rally, in a hostile environment, from a three-goal deficit in Game 1 before eventually losing 5-3 and have outshot the Penguins by a combined 25 shots. The Predators have managed to slow down the Penguins’ potent offense for long periods of time but need to give the same level of defensive intensity for a full 60 minutes.

The Predators’ struggles are primarily due to their goalie Pekka Rinne who has crashed back down to earth after his other worldly performances in the first three rounds of the playoffs. Rinne was pulled in Game 2 after allowing four goals on 25 shots. In the Stanley Cup, Rinne has a save percentage of 77.8% which is unacceptable for a goalie of his caliber.

Game 3 is a must-win game for the Predators who cannot afford to fall behind the defending champions 3-0 in the series. If the Predators want to claw back into this series, they will need to maintain their dominance in shots and faceoffs while receiving better all-around play from their elite goaltender. Game 3 should be a phenomenal game that will be competitive throughout.
