Look, it’d be one thing if this guy was slinging 56 grams of heroine, or cocaine, or methamphetamine. Those Walter White-level drugs, you know? But we’re talking mushrooms here, which are, coincidentally, the safest drug in the world. If anything, this guy is doing a good deed. You know how you hear all those stories of people killing themselves with prescription medicine, and then all those other stories about how medical marijuana helped save someone’s life? Picture that — this guy was could have been saving someone from heroine or meth.

And if you don’t believe me, just check this year’s Global Drug Survey, which determined that magic mushrooms are the safest recreational drug to take. In the study, of the more than 12,000 people who reported taking psilocybin hallucinogenic mushrooms in 2016, just 0.2% of them said they needed emergency medical treatment – a rate at least five times lower than that for MDMA, LSD and cocaine.

And it’s kind of obvious when you think about it — LCD is literally made in a lab, cocaine and molly are laced with all sorts of dangerous shit, and then when you get to the real heavy hitters like meth and heroine, you know you’re flirting with death. So free the mushrooms!

All of this is just a long way of me saying that police should just my man Aaron Kincaid Barnett slide, who was arrested on Tuesday for several different charges related to drugs.

Police say he had 56 grams of psilocybin or mushrooms, a schedule I drug in North Carolina, with the intent to sell or distribute them. He also allegedly possessed 189 grams (about 7 ounces) of marijuana with the same intentions.

via Gaston Gazette:

Police say Barnett was using his residence on East Fourth Avenue to keep and sell the marijuana and mushrooms. A magistrate’s order states Barnett had mason jars filled with the drugs and scales.

In total, Barnett has been charged with felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule I substance, trafficking a schedule I controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining his house as a dwelling to keep and sell drugs from, felony possession of a schedule I controlled substance and felony possession of marijuana.

In addition to the aforementioned charges, Barnett was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and possessing marijuana paraphernalia.

He was arrested by Gastonia Police and is currently in Gaston County Jail being held on a $250,000 bond.
