Annie Krantz, an 18-year-old high school student, died while swimming with three friends at the Whitten Reservoir in the Douglas State Forest of Massachusetts. She died just 24 hours after her prom and a week before her graduation.
According to CBS Boston, Krantz was with three male friends when they went swimming around 2 PM on Saturday, May 27.
Friends told authorities that Krantz went under and did not return to the surface. Douglas Police received the 911 call and sent officers and dive units to the scene.
First responders arrived at the scene around 2:45 PM. Her body was pulled from six feet of water. Paramedics attempted to revive her before she was transported to Hubbard Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The exact cause of the drowning is still under investigation, but Douglas Deputy Fire Chief John Furno says the lake water was still too cold for swimming.
“That area where she was, about six to eight feet deep, the dive team tells me it was about 57 or 58 degrees. That’s cold and you can cramp up. Things can happen when you’re in that water and it can happen quickly,” Furno said.

Douglas Deputy Fire Chief John Furno said the exact cause of the drowning is still under investigation.
Oxford High School school’s officials made grief counselors available on Sunday, May 29.
The school says their thoughts and prayers are with the family.
