Salman Abedi has been identified as the attacker who detonated a suicide bomb at the Manchester Arena at the end of an Ariana Grande concert, killing at least 22  and injuring 59 others.

According to reports, Abedi is believed to have used an improvised explosive device, police said. ISIS has since claimed responsibility for the attack and Abedi died at the scene.

According to CBS, Abedi was ‘known to British authorities.’

On Tuesday morning, ISIS claimed responsibility for the bombing in a brief statement that did not identify the bomber. The statement also appeared to get some of the facts of the attack wrong.

ISIS claimed a “caliphate soldier managed to place a number of devices among a gathering of crusaders in Manchester, and detonated them”, however, officials say there was only one explosion, and no other devices have been discovered at the arena.

Furthermore, according to ABC News, a second 23-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in South Manchester in connection with the attack, however, has not yet been identified and his role in the attack is still unknown.

Police said authorities executed two warrants as a part of the investigation — one in the Whalley Range area of Manchester and one in the Manchester suburb of Fallowfield, where a controlled explosion took place.

Monday’s incident is being treated as a terror attack and May said the threat level remains at “severe,” meaning the government considers another terror attack highly likely. Severe is level 4 out of 5, with critical being the highest. May said police believe they know the identity of the suspect but at this stage they cannot confirm his name.

“We struggle to comprehend the warped and twisted mind that sees a room packed with young children not as a scene to cherished but as an opportunity for carnage,” May said Tuesday.

The bombing at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester was the deadliest in England since four British Muslims killed 52 people in suicide bombings on London’s train system in 2005.

According to CNN, United States President Trump has spoken with UK Prime Minister Theresa May about the bombing, “expressing condolences and assistance” on behalf of the United States.

On Tuesday morning, after a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Bethlehem, President Donald Trump addressed the bombings in Manchester, expressing solidarity with England. During his speech, he called the attackers “evil losers.”

“I extend my deepest condolences to those so terribly injured in this terrorist attack and to the many killed and the families, so many families, of the victims. We stand in absolute solidarity with the people of the United Kingdom,” Trump said. “So many young beautiful innocent people living and enjoying their lives murdered by evil losers in life. I won’t call them monsters because they would like that term. They would think that’s a great name. I will call them from now on losers because that’s what they are. They’re losers, and we’ll have more of them, but they’re losers, just remember that.”

According to Greater Manchester police, officers executed warrants on Tuesday in Whalley Range and Fallowfield as part of the investigation into the bombing.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this senseless tragedy.

Similarly, Manchester police confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old man in the southern Chorlton on Tuesday morning. Neighbors of British-born Manchester suicide bomber Salman Abedi have revealed his ‘strange behavior’ in the weeks before he slaughtered 22 people. The 23-year-old British-born attacker was heard ‘chanting Islamic prayers loudly in the street’ outside his home in the south of the city.

Police are trying to determine whether Abedi, a Manchester United fan who appears to have been radicalized within the last couple of years, acted alone or was part of a wider terror cell. Separate pictures show raids at what is believed to have been Abedi’s home in Elsmore Road, Fallowfield, where a controlled explosion took place. One neighbor claimed they heard Abedi chanting Islamic prayers at the home just weeks before the concert hall atrocity. Forensics were seen emerging from the property carrying a booklet called Know Your Chemicals.

Lina Ahmed, 21, told MailOnline: ‘They are a Libyan family and they have been acting strangely. A couple of months ago he [Salman] was chanting the first kalma [Islamic prayer] really loudly in the street. He was chanting in Arabic.

‘He was saying “There is only one God and the prophet Mohammed is his messenger”.’
