Katherine Waterston, 37, is an American actress and daughter of the Oscar-nominated Sam Waterston. Her father is best known for is work in The Killing Fields (1984) and Law & Order (1994-2010) and more recently, The Newsroom (2012-2014) and Grace and Frankie (2015-Present).
Katherine made her film debut in Michael Clayton (2007), which she followed up with supporting roles in Robot & Frank, Being Flynn (both 2012) and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Her (2013). She then scored a leading role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice (2014) and significant parts in Steve Jobs (2015), the Harry Potter prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) and the Ridley Scott Alien franchise entry Alien: Covenant (2017).
Though she was born in London, Waterston is an American citizen who resides in New York City. In addition to her growing filmography on screen, Waterston has also appeared in a handful of well-received stage productions. In 2007, she performed in the play Los Angeles by Julian Sheppard and in 2008, she performed in the play Kindness by Adam Rapp. In 2010, Waterston played the role of Gena in the original Off-Broadway production of Bachelorette, played in the 2011 film version by Lizzy Caplan. In 2011, she played Anya in the Classic Stage Company revival of The Cherry Orchard.
Also in 2011, she performed in Dreams of Flying, Dreams of Falling, also by Adam Rapp at the Classic Stage Company.
The private actress has several projects coming in the next few years, including: State Like Sleep, Fluidic, Logan Lucky, The Current War and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2.
