Aaron Saucedo, a 23-year-old Phoenix, Arizona, is facing nine separate murder charges for killings that all took place last year.

Saucedo, 23, is accused of carrying out the separate murders which police previously described as the work of a serial killer. In 2015, Saucedo was taken into custody on April 19 on suspicion of killing his mother’s boyfriend. Once he was in custody, detectives were able to link him to the other murders. All of the other slayings occurred in Latino neighborhoods between March and July of 2016.

Saucedo is being charged with the murders of Krystal Annette White (55), Maleah Ellis (12), Stefanie Ellis, Horacio De Jesus Pena (32), Manuel Castro Garcia (19), Diego Verdugo-Sanchez (21) and others.

At a press conference, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams said the arrest brought the families of the nine people killer ‘closer to justice’.

‘Our hearts go out to the surviving families. Today we are closer to providing them the justice they deserve. Police have been working to solve the killings for more than a year. During their hunt, they began referring to the suspect as the ‘serial street shooter’.

During Saucedo’s spree, seven people were killed by someone who randomly opened fire on pedestrians and cars in areas of west Phoenix. The gunman, who is believed to be Saucdeo, committed the shootings while driving a number of cars, including a black BMW 5-series and a white Cadillac.

In April, detectives investigating the death of 61-year-old Raul Romero arrested Saucedo. Romero, who was dating Saucedo’s mother, was killed in August 2015 at a Phoneix apartment complex.

Police were able to focus on Saucedo after they learned that he owned a 9mm handgun that he pawned off days after the murder. Since being arrested, Saucedo was also charged with a January 2016 murder.

Saucedo now faces a total nine separate murder charges.
