Former Oregon tight end Colt Lyrerla has escaped from county jail, prompting an arrest warrant to be issued in his name, according to The Oregonian. Lyerla was two months into a six-month sentence for heroin possession.

What Happened?

Lyerla is said to have climbed out of a first-floor window at the Washington County Community Corrections Center in Hillsboro, Oregon, Thursday afternoon.

The former tight end’s Oregon career was a rocky one that saw achievements on the field undermined by trouble off of it. In October 2013, he was arrested for cocaine possession and subsequently left the Ducks team. In 27 games at Oregon, Lyerla caught 34 passes for 565 yards and 11 touchdowns.

He went undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft but did sign as a free agent with the Green Bay Packers. A knee injury in training camp led to his release and Lyerla then had a brief stint in the Arena Football League in 2015.

At this point, Lyerla is now facing second-degree felony charges for escaping custody and will be ineligible to return to a minimum-security facility.

Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks football program is a college football team for the University of Oregon, located in the U.S. state of Oregon. The team competes at the NCAA Division I level in the FBS and is a member of the Pac-12 Conference. Oregon plays its home games at the 54,000 seat Autzen Stadium in Eugene; its main rivals are the Oregon State Beavers and the Washington Huskies. The Ducks and Beavers historically end each regular season with the Civil War rivalry game in late November.

Oregon is 641-486-46 (.566) all-time.
