North Lake College, located in Irving, Texas, is on lockdown due to reports of an active shooter on campus. The Irving police department has confirmed the threat to the public via Twitter.
What Happened?
UPDATE: Police say that two people are dead as the shooter killed one person and then themselves in an apparent murder-suicide.
The Irving Police Department has reported shots fired on North Lake College campus. They are warning students and faculty to avoid the area.
The Police Department received the call at 11:30 A.M. local time on Wednesday. “Every available unit and resource has been sent that way” Irving Police Officer James McLellan told 1080 KRLD.
The school also tweeted that the campus is under lockdown and advised students to go to the nearest room. According to officials, the incident happened in Building A on the North Lake Campus. The campus, located in a Dallas suburb, is now on “intruder lockdown.”
The Irving campus is located at 5001 North MacArthur Boulevard.
“There may be injuries, but nothing has been confirmed” said McLellan.
Police are currently on the scene.
One student on Twitter reported seeing police with rifles in the school library.
North Lake College
North Lake College is a community college that is part of the Dallas County Community College District and is located in the Las Colinas area of Irving, Texas between MacArthur Boulevard and Walnut Hill Lane. The school opened in 1977 and features an enrollment of about 5,000 credit students and an additional 3,000 continuing education students.
