Shane McMahon invites new WWE US Champ Chris Jericho to the ring

Like the sub-heading says, Shane O’Mac introduces the crowd to SmackDown Live‘s new WWE United States Champion Chris Jericho. McMahon announces Jericho against Kevin Owens for the U.S. title for later in the night

AJ Styles comes out next and reminds Jericho that he’s in AJ Style’s house. He calls Jericho “an old friend…who probably won’t even leave tonight as U.S. Champion.”

Jericho doesn’t seem fazed by AJ’s comments. I mean, did you see Y2J make KO TO (Tap Out) with the Wall of Jericho, maaannnnnn?

Kevin Owens comes out next. He runs his mouth like usual. Except this time, AJ isn’t going to take his sh*t. Styles runs down the ramp at KO and a brawl ensues. Even Shane O’Mac had to get in there to break it up.

Sami Zayn vs. Jinder Mahal

Sami comes out first. We see a clip from Talking Smack, where Baron Corbin basically kicks Zayn’s ass. Out next comes quite possibly the next WWE World Champion Jinder Mahal, alongside The Singh Brothers or The Bollywood Boys or whatever.

Both guys trade shots to start off the match. “Hard Body” Mahal is really throwing some serious hits on Sami. But Zayn regains ground before the commercial break, sending Mahal over the ropes besides his brethren. Sami is back on top.

As when we come break from the break, Mahal is clearly in control. He has Zayn trapped in a headlock. We see a clip from commercial break, in which Sami is on the ring apron, being distracted by the Singh Brother, and Mahal capitalizes.

Jinder is really whopping Sami’s ass and stomping it dry. He knocks him silly with an elbow and throws him around like a piece of trash. Mahal props Zayn on the top ropes for superplex, but The Underdog of the Underground reverse. Sami is just about to make a comeback, but eats a sick knee from Mahal.

Sami looks beaten, but he hasn’t given up. He comes back with a clothesline and takes the fight directly to Mahal. But then one Bollywood Boy distracts Sami. Mahal attempts a roll-up, which Sami reverses with his own roll-up. Kick out!

Zayn is solidly in control. He’s about to smack Mahal with a helluva kick. But a Bollywood Boy pulls out Jinder. Sami is about to run the ropes and hit Jinder, but a Singh (Bollywood) Brother grabs Sami’s leg. Mahal capitalizes, slithers into the ring, and hits Sami with his finisher.

Can Becky Lynch be manipulated?

Dolph Ziggler talks trash about Shinsuke Nakamura

Ziggler doesn’t like how Nakamura is on the cover of Backlash. He says that Shinsuke hasn’t even had a match on SmackDown. He believes that the rookie star is undeserving of this honor. He doubts Shane O’Mac’s decision-making, who is standing right behind him. McMahon announces a match between the two stars at Backlash.

Aiden English vs. Tye Dillinger

Aiden English is showing off his classical theater singing voice. But then “10” Tye Dillinger comes out and interrupts his song. “The Rembrandt of Rage” Aiden English sneak-attacks Dillinger from behind. English gains the early advantage, but Tye quickly turns the turn. Dillinger pulls down his right knee pad and performs a modified GTS onto Aiden for the win.

Tye Dillinger defeats Aiden English

Post-match: Aiden is having a temper tantrum in the ring.

Chris Jericho interviewed with a crying Aiden English

Jericho is right in the middle of a backstage interview with a new attractive blonde interviewer. Aiden English passes by, crying. Y2J stop him from crying. He told him to be happy, he has a nice hairy chest, c’mon, mannnnnn. But you know what happens when tears stream from your eyes on Jericho’s new show? Y2J waits for it….You just made the list! SmackDown‘s newest backstage interviewer also made the list! If I’m not careful, I will end up on that list too.

Charlotte ambush

Charlotte Flair is being interview backstage. She’ll inevitably be champion again, but then…attack of the angry lady wrestlers! Natalya, Carmella and Tamina Snuka mop the floor with Charlotte. It’s an absolutely mugging. The tag team match is next. Can she compete after that vicious attack?

Naomi vs. Natalya & Carmella w/ Tamina Snuka & James Ellsworth

Carmella squares off against Naomi to start off the match. The Princess of Staten Island is taunting our SmackDown Women’s Champion. That’s not smart at all. Naomi starts kicking ass immediately. Her knocks are like a flurry of bullets. Carmella tags in Natalya, but that doesn’t make a difference. Ms. Glow mops the floor with her too. Can anything stop Naomi? Yes…Natalya smacking her head onto some steel stairs.

Natalya drags Naomi to the corner. She tags in Carmella, and they both double team the champion. Now, Carmella is in control on Naomi. The champ tries to battle back, but the Princess of Staten Island slams her to the mat with a hand full of hair.

Carmella makes the tag to Nattie, who slaps the taste right out of Naomi’s mouth. She stops out the champ into the corner. Nattie catapults Naomi across the ropes, attempts a clothesline, but instead, both women fall with a double flying crossbody.

But then…Charlotte is coming out! Oh sh*t! This takes guts. She’s hurt, but is still willing to compete. The Queen wants a tag. Nattie tries to prevent Naomi from making the tag, but too late! Charlotte comes in like a great ball of fire, knocking down both her opponents.

The Queen goes for a figure four, but Carmella breaks it up. Charlotte beats Nattie’s head in on the apron, but gets distracted by an intruding Carmella. ‘Mella gets knocked off the apron, Charlotte is clearly distracted, so Natalya capitalizes with a roaring forearm. Nattie lets out a victory cry as we go to commercial break.

We’re back from commercial and Carmella won’t get off Charlotte’s back (literally). The Queen takes in Naomi who dominates Carmella. But then one roll-up from the Princess of Staten Island is all you ever need.

Carmella & Natalya defeat Naomi & Charlotte Flair

Post-match: The bad girls beat up the crap outta Charlotte & Naomi. The crowd chants for “Becky,” and they get their wish. Lynch shakes everyone’s hands, except for Ellsworth, who she hugs instead. But then, Becky throws Ellsworth into the evil ladies. Lynch is kicking ass, but then big bad Tamina knocks her down. They all dissect Becky. Carmella ends the assault by kicking a prone Becky right in the face.

Sin Cara vs. Dolph Ziggler

Sin Cara really shined in this match. The highlight of this match saw Cara fly through the middle ropes onto Dolph outside the ring. I’m glad they’re making Sin Cara seem credible again.

But building up Dolph for Shinsuke is way too important. Better luck next time, Sin Cara. One stiff superkick to the cheek is all Ziggler needs to put away his opponent.

WWE United States Championship match: Chris Jericho (c) vs. Kevin Owens (AJ Styles is banned from ringside)

Owens throws the first shows, but Jericho fires back with a dropkick. Owens needs a minute to take a breath, but Y2J won’t let up. Jericho targets those injured fingers of Owens. But KO soon turns the tide once again.

Jericho nails another drop kick. Y2J brings Owens to the corner, but KO moves, and Y2J falls out of the ring. Owens capitalizes with a cannonball into the barricade.

Back from the break, and each man counters their finishes. Jericho stops a pop-up powerbomb and KO puts the knees up to Y2J’s lionsault.

Owens is just too vicious for Jericho to handle. Superkick after superkick stun Jericho. Y2J baseball slides to the outside and eats another super kick for his troubles. Owens then drops Jericho on the concrete with a sick DDT.

KO attempts another super kick in the ring, but Jericho kicks out. Owens lays out Jericho with a pop-up powerbomb for the win.

Kevin Owens defeats Chris Jericho to become the new WWE United States Champion

Post-match: Owens brutally assaults Jericho after the match. He gives Y2J another pop-up powerbomb. He’s going to lay Y2J out with yet another devastating pop-up powerbomb, but Y2J crumbles under his own weight. Owens says, “You were never my best friend!”

EMTs assist an injured Jericho. But then Owens comes back for more violence. He brings Jericho out of the ring, wraps a steel chair around his neck and then runs him into the steel post. Absolutely sick!
