The Herricks School District has announced that the high school and middle school are currently on lockdown. Officials say police are currently investigating the situation.

UPDATE: 2:58 P.M. – The Herricks lockdown has ended as police have cleared the school.

What Happened?

Herricks Middle School and Herricks High School are on lockdown as of Tuesday afternoon while police are investigating a “situation,” the school reports.

According to a message on the Herricks Public Schools website, everyone is safe and an update will be provided when more information is available. Nassau County Police responded to the school at around 1 p.m. and the investigation is ongoing.

One source says the lockdown was forced when a student threatened to harm another with a firearm.

Police are on the scene and a helicopter is circling the area. Students are also reportedly hiding under desks during the lockdown.

As of 2:20 P.M. EST, police were entering classrooms and telling students and faculty that everything is okay.

Dr. Fino Celano, Superintendent of Herrick Public Schools said: “Please be assured that all students and staff are safe and this is a precautionary measure as the police conduct their investigation. Our students’ safety and security is the district’s top priority. As such, dismissal at both buildings will not occur until the lockdown has been lifted.”

What Happened?

Bloomberg reported Tuesday that a person with knowledge of the deal said the group won the bidding for the team. Miami Herald sports reporter Barry Jackson tweeted that there’s an agreement in place for a $1.3 billion deal.

The Marlins are currently owned by Jeffrey Loria, who did not comment on the deal. It is unknown exactly how much the group paid for the team.

Jeter has long been after his own baseball team, telling CNBC in 2016 that ownership is his “ultimate goal.” And Bush comes from a baseball-loving family; his brother George owned the Texas Rangers before becoming president. With five World Series rings, 14 All-Stars, and one World Series MVP, Marlins fans are surely hoping Jeter’s winning ways will rub off the franchise.

Previously unseen videos reveal inconsistencies in the story told by the police officer who fatally shot 12-year-old Tamir Rice in a Cleveland park.

What Happened?

Cleveland.com obtained two videos previously unseen by the public that feature police interviews with Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback, two of the officers involved in the shooting of Tamir Rice, who was playing with a toy gun in the park. The city of Cleveland passed down internal discipline charges against Garmback, Loehmann and one other officer after a grand jury refused to press criminal charges.

In his interview with investigators, Loehmann said that he yelled “Put your hands in the air! Let me see your weapon! Freeze!” when the car was within 30 yards of Rice. Meanwhile, in a written statement to a grand jury, Loehmann said that he only opened the door and started yelling when his car had started rolling to a stop, according to Cleveland.com.

The two officers were responding to a call of a male in the park pointing a gun at people. The caller told the police dispatcher that the suspect was likely a young person and the gun was “probably fake.”

“The threat just became incredible,” says Loehmann in the video. “I had to make the decision fast because Frank and I were in immediate danger.”

Garmback said in his own interview with investigators that he instructed the younger Loehman on the “gun run” and discussed how he would drive the police cruiser from behind to surround the suspect without a chance to escape.

“I stopped him at that point and said, ‘This is a gun run. Be prepared for the worst-case scenario. Have your gun unholstered already on your lap,'” said Garmback, who broke cried several times during the video interview as he recounted the moment he realized Rice was a child.

Loehmann’s response was deemed to be a justified use of force under the circumstances, though he still faces disciplinary charges for failing to disclose earlier incidents from another police department that could have indicated his emotional instability on his officer application, while Garmback faces charges for bringing the police car too close to Rice. The police dispatcher has been suspended.

Subodh Chandra, a lawyer representing the Rice family, told Cleveland.com that the new videos could serve as an opportunity for some accountability in the shooting.

“As public anguish regarding young Tamir’s slaying continues, the physically impossible accounts and inconsistencies the officers offer in their video-recorded interviews raise the stakes for this last chance at public accountability through the absurdly delayed discipline process,” he said.

After getting blown out twice and falling in an 0-2 hole, the seven-seed Memphis Grizzlies came roaring back to even their series with the two-seed San Antonio Spurs at 2-2. Memphis’ Game 4 victory was probably the most exciting game of the NBA Playoffs thus far, as Marc Gasol hit an insanely clutch shot to give the Grizzlies a 110-108 overtime win.

Even though the Spurs ultimately came up short in Game 4, Kawhi Leonard was spectacular all night long. He ended up with 43 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and six steals, fully demonstrating why he’s on the very short list for best two-way players in the NBA. Leonard hit 14-of-30 from the floor and 7-of-10 from downtown, including two crunch time three-pointers that were absolutely cold-blooded.

Lincoln prepares for the escape by ordering forged passports. However, he and Sheba are caught by ISIL and Cyclops, who attempts to rape her until Lincoln frees himself and saves her. T-Bag runs into Sara, and tries to warn her about A&W and Van Gogh, two of Poseidon’s henchmen, who may be following her trail. A&W and Van Gogh hack into her phone, later discovered by Sara, who deduces Kellerman’s involvement. She asks T-Bag to investigate Kellerman. Cross, an inmate who refused to leave his brother, Muza, and participate in Michael’s escape, warns Whip that Michael cannot be trusted. Michael obtains a gold watch from one of the guards, planting it on Ramal, so that he will be detained during the escape. Michael and Whip are revealed to have been working undercover for the CIA as Whip worries the line between Michael and Outis will be blurred. During the escape however, Ramal’s party, Cross and Muza race to Michael’s cell and are caught by the guards, leading to Muza’s death and the recapture of Michael’s team. Ramal vows to kill Michael in solitary while Michael uses the last remaining battery life on his cell phone to record a goodbye to Sara.

A University of Central Florida fraternity has been found guilty of hazing and has been placed on probation after one of the fraternity’s brothers allegedly held a gun to the head of a blindfolded pledge.

According to documents released by the school, as the pledges of Alpha Epsilon Pi laid on the floor blindfolded, one of the actives members “took out a rifle and racked it,’’ an anonymous student complained in a February 9 email to the University of Central Florida Police Department.

In an email written to the school’s police department, a student claims that after one of the blindfolded pledges made a comment about the gun not being real, the active member then placed the barrel up to the pledge’s head and asked him if he “thought it was real.”

The fraternity was placed on “organizational probation” through spring 2018 after a discipline hearing earlier this month, according to an April 18 letter the university recently released.

“While on organizational probation, any further violations of the Organizational Rules of Conduct may result in the organization being placed on suspension status or greater with the university,” the letter said.

It’s unclear whether the pledge master who racked the shotgun and pointed it at a blindfolded pledge faced any discipline. UCF has said they will not comment on a student’s individual case. The fraternity members and the pledges were in a backyard in what was supposed to be a bonding exercise.

A UCF investigation found several brothers — some of whom had no experience with firearms — looked on in shock but did not intervene during the situation. Several said they had not known there would be a gun.

UCF’s AEPi, which has about 60 members and serves primarily Jewish students, began at the university back in 2000.

We’re deadlocked at 2-2 in this very tightly contested series between the four-seed Los Angeles Clippers and the five-seed Utah Jazz.
