A poster reading “kill the Muslim” was found written on a poster at University of Southern Maine’s Portland campus Tuesday night.

The hateful message was on a poster that instructed people what to do in an active shooter scenario. It was written around an image of someone hitting a gunman with a chair, depicting the ‘fight’ option. The message was meant to suggest that an active shooter would likely be Muslim.

This marks the second time in the last year that police at University of Southern Maine’s Portland are investigating anti-Muslim graffiti.

In an email to the university community USM President Glenn Cummings called the statement “disgraceful” and expressed regret that the school has not been able to prevent multiple anti-Muslim incidents over the past year.

“I am personally sickened by this and apologize to our many Muslim students whose presence on our campus and contributions to our university I could not value more,” said Cummings. “While we can not control the behavior of every single person who finds their way onto our campus, I can assure you our approach is that even one incident is too many and will not be tolerated.”

Back in November, University of Southern Maine police investigated graffiti found in the Woodbury Campus Center that read “Deus vult.” The phrase is Latin and translates to “God wills it.”

Goldberg began his pro sports career on the football field, as he was picked up by the Los Angeles Rams in the 1990 NFL draft. From ’92 to ’94, he jumped from the Sacramento Gold Miners to the Atlanta Falcons. In 1995, he was picked up by the Carolina Panthers, but was cut before he could play. Bill’s career in football came to a screeching halt, after severely injuring his lower abdomen.

While in the gym, rehabbing his injuries, he was spotted by WCW superstars Lex Luger and Sting. These two former world champions were very impressed with Goldberg’s physique and power-lifting ability. They convinced him to look for a career in professional wrestling, and that’s just what Goldberg did.

Goldberg made his professional wrestling debut on the September 22, 1997 episode of WCW Nitro. He quickly defeated Hugh Morris in convincing fashion, starting a winning streak that would last for over 2 years with an estimated 174 victories (allegedly).

1997 – 1999

Bill’s dominant rise in WCW is often imitated, but never truly duplicated. Week after week, more and more wrestlers fell to Goldberg’s spear and jackhammer. On an April 1998 episode of Nitro, big bad Bill secured his first championship, as ran through Raven. But the United States Championship wasn’t enough for Goldberg, he wanted more…he wanted the World Heavyweight Title.

In front of over 40,000 fans in the Georgia Dome, Goldberg defeated the legendary “Hollywood” Hogan for the top prize in WCW. After successful title defenses against Diamond Dallas Page and Curt Hennig, Goldberg dropped the title to Kevin Nash under controversial circumstances (via stun gun by Scott Hall).

Goldberg’s next noteworthy feud involved Bret “Hitman” Hart. At Starrcade 1999, these two legends clashed for the WCW World Championship. This match had a very unfortunate outcome. Goldberg super-kicked Bret right in the head, causing a concussion, which would lead to Hart’s retirement.

1999 – 2003

Once Goldberg’s streak was dead, it seemed as if he was losing traction in WCW. He was still booked as a legit main eventer, but he never won another title again. During this time, Goldberg switched from hero to villain to hero again. WCW seemed to be lacking direction, and soon enough, the company sunk.

After spending time wrestling in Japan, Goldberg finally made the transition to the WWE. On a March 2003 edition of WWE Raw, Goldberg made his much-anticipated WWE debut, as he ran right through The Rock.

Goldberg spent a whole year dominating much of the Monday Night Raw roster. He defeated the likes of The Rock, Triple H, and Chris Jericho. Goldberg also reigned supreme as World Heavyweight Champion for almost three months.

At WrestleMania XX, Goldberg defeated Brock Lesnar. After this match, he waited over a decade until he stepped back inside a WWE ring.

2003 – Present

After WWE, Bill set his sights on Hollywood. In 2005, Goldberg received a prominent role in the film The Longest Yard. That year, Bill hosted The History Channel’s documentary series Auto-Maniac. He also starred in the films Half Past Dead 2 and Santa’s Slay (he met his future wife Wanda on the set of the Christmas-themed horror flick).

Goldberg was even a contestant on the 9th season of Donald Trump’s show The Celebrity Appearance. That’s YUGE!

In 2016, WWE came callin’ once again. WWE needed Goldberg to help sell copies of WWE 2K17, as his character was announced as a per-order bonus for the game. While promoting the game, Paul Heyman baited Goldberg into a match against his client Brock Lesnar at the upcoming Survivor Series.

Bill shocked the WWE Universe and the entire pro wrestling world, when he defeated Lesnar at Survivor Series in 1 minute and 26 seconds. After his decisive win against Lesnar, big bad Bill switched focus to Kevin Owens and his WWE Universal Championship. At WWE Fastlane 2017, Goldberg annihilated Owens in just 22 seconds.

At WrestleMania 33, Goldberg finally fell to “The Beast Incarnate.” Lesnar won the Universal Championship, as he was finally able to defeat the legend. Goldberg appeared the next night in front of the Monday Night Raw audience after the show went off the air. He made a speech in the ring, with his young son standing right beside him. Regarding another WWE run, Goldberg remarked, “Never say never.”

Another person also tried to help, but he was hit by a car as well, and had to have his foot amputated. His name is Sean English, a teenager, who is lucky to escape with his life.

Cynthia Ray passed away on Wednesday.

2011 – 2013

Sherman was drafted out of Stanford in the fifth round by the Seattle Seahawks. As a mid-late round draft pick, he wasn’t entitled to the big money deals that first-rounders received. Instead, Sherman, signed a four-year deal worth a total of $2.2 million which included a signing bonus of $182,424. However, Sherman would quickly outperform his meager contract.

Despite starting just 10 games as a rookie, he led all first-year players with 17 passes defended and four interceptions with 55 tackles. The following year, Sherman recorded eight interceptions with 24 passes defended to go along with three forced fumbles and 64 total tackles. He was considered the biggest 2012 NFL Pro Bowl snub, though he was named an All-Pro. Sherman would be named to the Pro Bowl the following year.

Thanks to his stellar first three seasons, the Seahawks soon realized they needed to lock the talented CB ip long-term.

2014 – Present

In advance of the 2014 season, Seattle signed Sherman to a four-year deal worth $57.4 million, which included $40 million in guaranteed money and an $11 million signing bonus. During this time, Sherman also signed lucrative endorsement deals with top brands such as T-Mobile, Nike, Oberto, BODYARMOR and Beats by Dre.

Despite being named an All-Pro that year and earning Pro Bowl honors every season since 2013, the Seahawks are reportedly looking to trade Sherman to help clear cap space for the future. As of now, Sherman has two years and roughly $26.83 million remaining on his contract.

The University of Oklahoma will be holding a set of workshops for OU students in Greek life to “learn about social issues affecting their organizations and the university.”

The workshops, called “Unlearning: Workshops for the Greek Community,” will give students the opportunity to discuss racism, sexism, and classism. The workshops begin on April 7.

Like most (?) reasonable people, I’m all in on equality and tolerance. But there becomes a point where the PC nature of the world becomes too much.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I actually think a workshop like this is a good idea. We could all be more educated on the intricacies on race, class, and gender. But what I don’t understand is why it’s targeted at those in Greek life.

As both a white male and someone who was in a fraternity, I can promise you that my potential cluelessness or unintentional ignorance has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I joined a fraternity. I know a bunch of dudes who are far more intolerant than I, frat bro or not.

The workshops, originally a pilot program in spring 2016, are a joint effort between OU Student Affairs, the OU Women’s and Gender Studies program and the Center for Social Justice, said Kylie Frisby, public relations and marketing coordinator at OU Career Services.

“It came out of just discussions with greek students saying, ‘We feel like these are things in our community, within the whole OU community, and we want to know how to combat them and how to deal with those things,'” Frisby said.

While OU students also currently go through the Freshmen Diversity Experience, these voluntary workshops will target students who never received those trainings and will be more tailored toward greek environments, Frisby said. If students attend four sessions to cover each of the topics and complete OU’s LGBTQ Ally training, they can become a certified Diversity Ally, Frisby said.

Students who attend will hear from both student affairs employees and professors with the option of staying for an hour-long discussion after each two-hour workshop.

Iconic comedian Don Rickles, who popularized insult comedy and inspired generations of laughter over six decades by poking fun at all walks of life, has died. He was 90. Rickles poked fun at people of all creeds, colors, and sexual orientations and held nothing back when aiming at the average joe or Frank Sinatra.

Rickles died Thursday at his home in Los Angeles of kidney failure, his publicist Paul Schrifin announced.

Rickles was sarcastically nicknamed “Mr. Warmth,” thanks to his teasing sense of humor. His brand of takedown comedy extended to stars, public figures and even the crowds that paid good money to see him perform.

Rickles began his career as a traditional stand-up comedian, but soon found that his biggest laughs came when he called out his hecklers in spectacular and hilarious fashion. His career spiked once he began calling out the likes of Sinatra in public. But when Rickles put the famous singer and actor in his crosshairs at a Hollywood club in 1957 – telling the Chairman of the Board to “Make yourself at home, Frank. Hit somebody.” – Sinatra roared with laughter.

In 1959, Rickles signed his first Las Vegas appearance, in the lounge of the Hotel Sahara. In 1985, when Sinatra was asked to perform at Ronald Reagan’s second Inaugural Ball, he insisted that Rickles be allowed to perform a comedy routine as well.

Rickles could often be seen on The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts which ran on NBC from the mid 1970s to the mid-80s. Johnny Carson tapped Rickles as a frequent guest on The Tonight Show over the years. The comic also made his fair share of film appearances, with notable roles in Kelly’s Heroes (1970), Pajama Party (1964), Beach Blanket Bingo (1965) and  Casino (1975). Younger audiences may recognize him as the voice of the curmudgeonly Mr. Potato Head in the Toy Story films.

In 1965, Rickles married Barbara Sklar, who survives him. The couple, who often vacationed with deadpan comic Bob Newhart and his wife, Virginia, had two children, Mindy and Larry. His son, who produced the HBO documentary Mr. Warmth: The Don Rickles Project, died in December 2011 at age 41.

Passengers on a flight to Chicago got quite the right when a mock explosive device was discovered in a suitcase at a Toronto airport Thursday, investigators said.

What Happened?

Airport crews found the fake improvised explosive device (IED) during a pre-clearance inspection at Pearson International Airport, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement. The discovery delayed the travel for hours for the unlucky passengers.

The device was found in a suitcase of a U.S. traveler on United Airlines Flight 547 intended for Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The flight was scheduled to leave 7:00 A.M. ET Thursday, according to the airline’s website.

Authorities issued an alert about a “possible security breach” on Twitter as airport security began to examine the device for potentially explosive material. They did not find anything.

All passengers and luggage were taken off the flight as police continued to search and investigate. The fear was there might be a second explosive device, though none were found.

“For the safety of travelers within the Preclearance Facility (PCF), CBP stopped stopped all traveler processing while the mock IED was tested,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection said.

One traveler took to Twitter to explain that he had been waiting four hours just to exit the plane to go into an “isolation room.”

The unidentified American man, 58, was arrested and charged with mischief, The Star reported. He is scheduled to appear in court in Brampton, Ontario, on Friday.

Naijiel Hale, the son of the late hip hop artist Nate Dogg, was arrested Wednesday with one of his college football teammates and another Montana State student in a drug sting operation.

What Happened?

Hale, a 21-year-old cornerback on Montana State’s football team, was arrested along with one of his teammates and another classmate in a drug sting operation on Wednesday. Hale reportedly put in motion multiple drug deals with undercover police officers who reached out to him about purchasing Xanax pills.

According to the arrest report, Hale gave the pills to his teammate Darren Gardenhire who complete the transaction in one instance.

Per the report:

“In a second incident in February, Hale arranged another deal for multiple Xanax pills at his home.”

All of these damn millennials (I’m a millennial) think the game is too long and boring, and yeah it might be, but it’s still America’s pastime, so I’m glad that the 2017 season is underway.

Although baseball isn’t as popular as it was in the ’90s, there are still a ton of players that are fun to watch and worth the price of admission. Unfortunately, none of these players play for my New York Yankees, but that’s neither here nor there. With all the talent that’s in the game today, I decided to do the unthinkable and rank the top five players in the game today. Okay, so it’s not quite groundbreaking per se, but every other baseball writer in America is doing it, so I might as well get in on the fun as well.

5. Mookie Betts – Center Fielder, Boston Red Sox

This one pains me because I hate the goddamn Boston Red Sox with every fiber of my being, but I’m also a fair person and am well aware that Mookie Betts is a flat-out stud. To prove how fair I am, I thought that he should have been the AL MVP over Mike Trout last year (more on him later), because his numbers were better than Trout’s, and his team was far superior to Trout’s crappy Angels team. He’s 24 years old, shows no signs of showing down, and is going to give my Yankees problems for years to come. Dammit.

4. Clayton Kershaw – Pitcher, Los Angeles Dodgers

I probably should put Kershaw higher on this list, because he’s one of the best pitchers I’ve seen in my lifetime, but man can he just not get it done in the postseason. Regular season? He is flat-out disgusting and worth every penny of that massive contract that the Dodgers gave him a few years ago, and has definitely been more than deserving of his Cy Young Awards and NL MVP. If he’s able to put together a nice playoff run this year, maybe I’ll move him up higher on this list for next year.

 3. Bryce Harper – Right Fielder, Washington Nationals*

*Future New York Yankee. Say what you will about Harper, but the dude has delivered in the big leagues. He was on the cover of Sports Illustrated when he was still in high school and was dubbed the next big thing in baseball, and he’s absolutely lived up to expectations. With the exception of his down year last season, he has an MVP award to his name, positioned his Nationals as perennial contenders each year, and probably the most impressive thing he’s done is hit a home run in all five of his Opening Days since getting called up to the MLB. Can’t wait until he’s in pinstripes in a few years.

2. Kris Bryant – Third Baseman, Chicago Cubs

Kris Bryant is on an all-time hot streak right now. He was the College Baseball Player of the Year, Minor League Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, MVP, and helped the Cubs win their first World Series in 108 years. He did all of that in a five-year span, which is absolutely insane. If you wanted to make the argument that Bryant is the best player in baseball, I would have a hard time disagreeing with you. The guy has delivered at every level and is becoming one of the faces of the game. He’s so much fun to watch and it’ll be interesting to see how he tops the historic run he just went on.

1. Mike Trout – Center Fielder, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

I really don’t know what else can be said about Mike Trout at this point. Dude is a five-time All Star and two-time MVP winner, all at the ripe young age of 25. The problem with Trout is that the team he plays for absolutely sucks, so you can say that he’s not necessarily making them better, but at the same time baseball is a pretty individual sport. He’s doing all he can, which is a lot by the way, so it’s not really his fault that the rest of his team is a pile of garbage. I hope one day he has a chance to play for a World Series title because it would be a damn shame if we never got to see that.

The second of tonight’s games will be a showdown between Denver and Notre Dame. The Pioneers were the number one team coming into the tournament, and they’ve proved to be more than worthy of the honor. Denver was the last team standing in the Midwest Regional after cruising to a 5-2 win over 4-seed Michigan Tech and a 6-3 win over 3-seed Penn State.

The Fighting Irish pulled off two thrilling upsets in the Northeast Regional to make it to the Frozen Four. They knocked off 1-seed Minnesota 3-2 in the regional semifinals and 2-seed UMass Lowell 3-2 (OT) in the regional finals to punch their ticket to Chicago.

This is Denver’s 16th trip and Notre Dame’s third appearance in the Frozen Four. While Denver has won an astounding seven National Championships, Notre Dame will be looking to win it all for the first time in school history.

The University of Utah announced Thursday that it will create a varsity program for Esports, beginning with League of Legends. As time goes on, more and more games will be added to the competitive docket.

Before I continue, I’d just like to say that this is the greatest news of all time. For any kid who’s ever been picked on in high school because they weren’t good at sports, now is your time to shine. For anyone who has grown sick of being picked last come recess, here’s your chance to show ’em what you’re made of. If you couldn’t tell, I wasn’t very good at sports back in the day.

Players will potentially be able to earn partial scholarships by participating in this program, The Salt Lake Tribune reports. The University of Utah broke the news itself on its website and explained the rationale behind the Esports program:

“Esports has had a dramatic rise in popularity in the U.S. over the last few years – especially on college campuses,” said A.J. Dimick, director of operations for the U’s new esports program. “We think college esports is a great opportunity and we want our students to be part of it.”

The school claims it will be the “first of the Power Five athletics conference [schools]” to support an Esports program. Right on, University of Utah, we salute you.

Not only is this perfect for the athletically-challenged, but this also provides an safety valve for lazy college students who would rather play video games than study for their Econ final. What better way to show your value than a gaming marathon?

Everybody’s favorite a capella group is back, as Pentatonix’ latest project is available for purchase or stream. Today (Friday, April 7) is National Beer Day. Rejoice, fellow alcoholics and degenerates! No longer must we hide our love of excessive beer consumption in the shadows, no longer must we conform to society’s expectations of not drinking beer at 9:30 in the morning. Today, we can indulge all of our deepest desires.

Okay, not really, but we can still knock back a handful of cold ones.

National Beer Day is celebrated in the United States every year on April 7, marking the day that the Cullen-Harrison Act was enacted after having been signed into law by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on March 22, 1933. Upon signing the legislation, Roosevelt dropped the most gangster line of all time, “I think this would be a good time for a beer.”

The law went into effect on April 7 and enabled people to buy, sell and drink beer containing up to 3.2% alcohol by weight. On that first day in which the American people were liberated from the tyrannical shackles of an oppressive and outdated paradigm on alcohol, 1.5 million barrels of beer were consumed. Yeah, we party hard here in the States.

Today we celebrate the date annually, with April 6 known as New Beer’s Eve.

Though the Cullen-Harrison Act did not mark the official end of prohibition in the U.S., it did alter the definition of an “intoxicating beverage” under the Volstead Act. The National Beer Day holiday began to celebrate this starting in 2009. In 2017, Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe officially recognized National Beer Day, which is awesome.
