I know this is a cliche, but The Leftovers really is the best television show you’re not watching. If they crush their final season, you watch, people will discuss it as one of the all-time greatest TV shows ever. You heard it here first.

The Leftovers essentially tells the story of the end of the world. Beginning three years after a rapture-like event known as “The Departure,” The Leftovers follows Kevin Garvey, a police chief, who tries to keep his life together while also experiencing…strange…incidents, including seeing people, hearing voices, and, oh, being able to come back from the dead.

After critics were somewhat lukewarm on the first season (I loved it, ahead of the curve as always, let it be known), the writers shifted the narrative in season two, completely changing both the location and the cast. The result was a television masterpiece. But don’t ask me, just ask Rotten Tomatoes:

Of the ten episodes aired during season two, EIGHT of them were given perfect scores, while the other two were given a 92 and a 93. In other words, critically, it was one of the best seasons of televisions of all time.

So, at this point in the article, it really goes without saying I have high hopes for this final season. With only eight hours of the story left, I expect The Leftovers to close out moving at a thousand miles a minute, crushing your heart at every twist and turn.

You just wait, come June, your friends are going to be telling you about how you just haveee to see The Leftovers and critics are going to be debating whether it’s the greatest show of all time.

Ghosts aren’t as cut and dry as aliens. While I think it’s unquestionable that aliens exist, ghosts are more of a gray area. Aliens can be chalked up to science and statistics whereas ghosts fall more under faith and spirit, so they’re a little bit harder to rationalize.

That said, I’m more or less in when it comes to believing in ghosts, and this video is only further affirming that belief.

Netizens were intrigued by the video of a dark environment with flashing lights and a slamming door that turned on social networks and hit the top of Twitter Trending Topics on Tuesday morning. In the comments, many said the scary record was made at the Instituto Medico Legal (IML) in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso.

However, the mystery about the location of the video is over. The images were recorded at the Comprehensive Care Center for Children and Adolescents of Araucária (CAIC), in Paraná. The information was confirmed by the direction of the Municipal School Eglé Cordeiro Machado Pinto, that is part of the educational complex.

According to the Araucária City Hall, the Public Security Secretariat will open an investigation to investigate the events shown in the images. The two agents have already been identified but, for now, have their identities preserved to the public.

Washington D.C. police are investigating after a person was shot near a D.C. elementary school.

What Happened?

At least one person has been shot near D.C.’s Orr Elementary School. The shooting took place shortly before 9 A.M. EST on the 2200 block of Minnesota Avenue in the South East. At least one male victim was found on the scene.

The status of the victim is unknown at this time. The shooter is still at large and D.C. Police released the following description.

What Is Orr Elementary School?

Orr Elementary School services students ranging from Pre-kindergarten to fifth grade. It is located in Southeast D.C. Orr Elementary School offers a core curriculum and teaches Social Studies and Science while also providing students the opportunity to participate in an arts program, library media center, music, computer, art, foreign language, and physical education classes.

A woman from California has become the latest victim of an alleged serial dine-and-dash-dater, who is accused of repeatedly skipping out on dates before the bill arrives. The unnamed woman said Paul Gonzales straight bailed after eating a massive meal at BJ’s in Pasadena, California.

The woman says she met Gonzales on the dating app Bumble and said Gonzales sent flattering texts before inviting her to dinner. Once at dinner, Gonzales ordered $50 of food for himself: a glass of Pinot, a Caesar salad with a side of shrimp, a steak, and a baked potato.

However, once it came time to pay the bill, Gonzales was nowhere to be found.

She says after he scarfed down most of his meal he got up.

“He left maybe half a baked potato and then received a phone call and said ‘I need to take this call,’” the woman recalled.

She says he never returned, leaving her with the bill.

“The waiter came back and said he’s not out there, is this a first date? And I said: ‘Yes, this is a first blind date, and he said, ‘he’s gone.’”

Shocked, she went online and discovered previous stories about Gonzales and how he had dined and dashed last summer, leaving at least two other women with large bills.

According to the L.A. County District Attorney’s office, the 44-year-old Gonzales has two warrants out for his arrest after not showing up to court for petty theft and driving without a valid license.

Gonzalez was in the news for this very same offense back in August, when he left Diane Guilmette with a bill after meeting her on the dating app Plenty of Fish (never heard of it).

“He ordered a lot of food. He had an appetizer. He ordered a steak. This restaurant is all al la carte. He even ordered a couple sides, a glass of wine. So he looked like he was really enjoying himself,” Guilmette said. “When we got near to the end of the meal, not quite finished, he said he had to go make a phone call.”

About 15 minutes later, Guilmette realized he wasn’t coming back.

“When I went to message him on the app, he had blocked me. And I thought, ‘Oh my gosh! Is this really happening right now?’ ” she said.

So, ladies, if you come across a Paul Gonzalez on one of your dating apps, don’t swipe right, ’cause he’s probably going to rob your ass.

On this day, we celebrate Ireland’s foremost patron saint, Saint Patrick, as well as the arrival of Christianity to Ireland and just good ‘ol Irish culture and heritage. It’s an all encompassing Irish holiday that has been around since the first Christian feast day in the early 17th century.

Since then, St. Patrick’s Day has always been celebrated on March 17 (the supposed death day of Saint Patrick himself) by the Catholic church, the Anglican Communion, the East Orthodox Church and the Lutheran Church.

Delta Upsilon, a fraternity at Grand Valley State University, has been shut down for repeatedly violating drug and alcohol policies.

Delta Upsilon announced Thursday on its official website that it revoked the chapter’s charter immediately. The fraternity said it was a “difficult decision” to close the chapter, which came after a February 17 hearing with chapter delegates and the board of directors.

Delta Upsilon nationals said the Grand Valley State chapter “violated a number of Fraternity Lose Prevention Policies regarding alcohol and drugs” throughout the fall 2016 semester. Furthermore, the fraternity said chapter members had been identified in multiple reports of university policy violations during the past 18 months.

“We hold our members and chapters to a set a standards that, unfortunately, the Grand Valley State Chapter could not sustain,” executive director Justin Kirk said in Thursday’s news release posted on the fraternity’s website.

Delta Upsilon said all chapter members have been given alumni status and associate members have been released from the fraternity. The men living in the chapter’s facility near GVSU’s Allendale campus have signed individual leases with the property owner to stay for the rest of the school year.

Grand Valley State and Delta Upsilon will consider reinstating the GVSU chapter after all current members have alumni status, have graduated or left school.

Effective immediately, the Delta Upsilon International Fraternity Board of Directors has revoked the charter of the Grand Valley State Chapter as the result of repeated violations of the Fraternity’s Loss Prevention Policy.
The difficult decision to close the chapter was made following a hearing between the Board of Directors and chapter delegates on Feb. 17. The Board of Directors respects the delegation’s commitment to the hearing process and the candor and honesty provided during the hearing. However, the difficult decision to close the chapter was made.

Throughout the fall 2016 semester, the chapter violated a number of Fraternity Loss Prevention Policies regarding alcohol and drugs. In addition, the Board of Directors took into consideration that the chapter and/or chapter members have been identified in multiple reports of violations of university policies over the course of the past 18 months

As a result of the charter’s revocation, all chapter operations have been ordered to cease immediately. Chapter members have been given alumni status, and all associate members have been released from the Fraternity. Those men living in the chapter facility have individual leases with the third-party owner and will be able to fulfill their leases for the remainder of the school year at the owner’s discretion.

“The decision to close a chapter is the most difficult decision the International Fraternity makes,” said Executive Director Justin Kirk. “Delta Upsilon is committed to being the premiere men’s fraternity on college campuses today. As such, we hold our members and chapters to a set a standards that, unfortunately, the Grand Valley State Chapter could not sustain.”

The International Fraternity will consider reinstatement of the Grand Valley State Chapter at a mutually agreeable date agreed upon by the Fraternity and Grand Valley State University. Such a date will be discussed once all current undergraduate students are placed on alumni status, have graduated or left school.

The University believes that a strong fraternity/sorority community contributes much to the life of the campus,” said Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, Dr. Eileen Sullivan. “Because of that, we look forward to working with the general fraternity headquarters to determine a date that we will welcome Delta Upsilon back to GVSU.”

Dr. Anthony Garcia appeared to be an admirable man, at least from the outside looking in. He lived in a nice house on a nice street in Terre Haute, Indiana, and he owned a Ferrari. He seemingly had it all.

But internally, police say his life was “falling apart.”

What Happened?

On Friday, NBC’s Dateline will examine the difficult life of Garcia, who was once an up-and-coming University of Utah medical school graduate before becoming a serial killer.

Police told NBC that Garcia was motivated by a years-long revenge scheme following his firing from Nebraska’s Creighton University in 2001 as he was followed by bad references from his former supervisors.

Garcia murdered four people on two separate occasions in 2008 and 2013. One of his victims was a doctor who dismissed him from Creighton. Another was an 11-year-old boy. All four victims were stabbed repeatedly. In two of the killings, police say he left a horrifying calling card: a knife stuck in the right side of their necks.

Garcia was charged with four counts of first-degree murder in 2013. In October, he was convicted, a ruling his lawyers have said they plan to appeal.

Investigators described the troubling scene they found in Garcia’s home in an exclusive clip from Friday’s Dateline, complete with empty rooms and closest, a nearly barren refrigerator and mortgage and insurance papers stacked on the dining table. As it turned out, Garcia was facing foreclosure on his home and was in serious financial trouble.

“Well, it appeared to us that he had made some deliberate attempt to kind of lay things out, so people could get his affairs in order,” Omaha, Nebraska, police detective Derek Mois tells Dateline‘s Josh Mankiewicz in the clip.

“And we see those things, as homicide investigators, when [we] investigate suicides.”

Investigators also dug deep into Garcia’s online data and electronic devices. Mois notes in the clip that the former doctor regularly frequented strip clubs and liquor stores.

“He was not working regularly,” Mois says. “So it looked to us collectively like his life was falling apart.”

Who Is Anthony Garcia?

Anthony Garcia is a former University of Utah medical school graduate and former Creighton University pathology resident. Though a good student, Garcia struggled in his residency and was dismissed from Creighton in 2001. In 2008, he murdered 11-year-old Thomas Hunter, son of Dr. William Hunter of the Department of Pathology at Creighton University, and house keeper Shirlee Sherman. In 2013, he murdered Roger and Mary Brumback. Roger was the former Chair of Creighton’s Department of Pathology.

A home in Rockville, Maryland was destroyed by an explosion Friday morning and its occupants remain unaccounted for.

What Happened?

A house was completely destroyed and its occupants remain unaccounted for following an overnight explosion in Rockville, Maryland, a suburb of Washington D.C.

The explosion was reported around 1:00 A.M. EST in the 11400 block of Ashley Drive in the Randolph Hills neighborhood. Neighbors told FOX 5 that the force of the explosion damaged windows and shook their homes.

Fire officials noted that they received 911 calls from residents nearly two miles away and that the explosion could be felt roughly a mile away.

Several houses in the vicinity of the explosion suffered damage and a large debris field currently surrounds the home, according to emergency crews. Officials have said that they are aware that neighbors reported that ammunition and firearms were kept in the home, though they do not believe this would have contributed to the explosion.

“It’s just a pile of debris; it’s just a pile of bricks. There’s not anything left of the house,” Pete Piringer, chief spokesman for Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service, said. “I’ve heard there were calls from miles away, people calling.”

Piringer described the house damage as “catastrophic” and explained that at least a dozen other homes were damaged due to the “large debris field” from the blast. The cause of the blast has not yet been determined.

“The status of the occupant is unknown,” he added. Investigators are working to find the occupant and determine the cause. Piringer also said there were no reports of a gas leak, though a gas explosion remains one possibility that has not been ruled out at this time.

Paul Ricci, who recorded images of the smoking debris and clean up efforts, lives in the area and compared the impact to the 2011 earthquake that ripped through the D.C. area.

“It jolted me right out of bed. We immediately got up and started wondering what was happening,” Ricci said. “We took a look around outside and noticed a glow. Someone came running by and said a house blew up – that immediately sent a shiver up our spine.”

Generally speaking, university police departments aren’t looked on by students with the kindest of eyes. Normally these are the men and women who handing out underage drinking tickets, walking through dorms to ensure that noise levels are kept to a minimum, or occasionally handing out tickets for running stop signs and red lights. And that’s actually a good thing, we don’t actually want them to have to protect us from criminals. That would mean that there are real crimes actually being committed.

But let’s just say, for argument’s sake, that a criminal does come onto campus. You’d assume that the police would be able to catch them no problem, right? Well, the University of Michigan Department of Safety had an excellent opportunity to show what they were made of. And they bungled it. Completely bungled it.

Check out the Dukes of Harbaugh as they try and catch someone running across the quad, but instead just wind up with a lamp post under their car.

Update: The police car at fault here is actually an Ann Arbor Police Department vehicle, not the UMichigan 5-0. The police were chasing a suspect who was involved in a robbery.

Screen Protector

When I’m done playing in hand-held mode or if there is a Divine Beast in Zelda that I need to beat, I prefer to use the Pro Controller. It offers bigger buttons and more of a relaxed feel so your fingers don’t get cramped during those long gaming sessions. Even though it is a steep price tag, this controller lasts 40 hours on a single charge and can make the difference between gaming for an hour or gaming for a night.

Amiibo

Last but not least are the Amiibo. Amiibo characters are Nintendo’s way of getting into the toys-to-life market. Scanning the Amiibo on the Switch will give you power-ups in the games that you play. With Breath of the Wild being recently released, so were a new set of Amiibo, each with their own goodies to bring once scanned.

When you scan the Archer Link Amiibo (far left), you will receive a random amount of meat and fish and sometimes a bow and arrow.

The Rider Link Amiibo (far right) you will receive a random amount of mushrooms and sometimes a horse saddle and melee weapons.

The Guardian Amiibo (center) will get you ancient parts which will help you upgrade your Sheikah Slate in-game.

The Zelda Amiibo (not featured) will get you plants to pick up and possibly a shield.

The Bokoblin Amiibo (not featured) will give you meat and possibly a weapon when scanned.

I wasn’t a fan of these toys-to-life figures whether they are Nintendo, Skylanders, or Disney Infinity (RIP) but these come in handy. After a battle with a Divine Beast or any of the other creatures living amongst Hyrule, having the opportunity to get meat and fish to build up your health or a good sword to fight off any other enemies is highly beneficial. I make sure to scan my Amiibo every day so I can stock my inventory because it will definitely come in handy.

According to a new CBS Sports report, the Oakland Raiders are “strongly considering” bringing Marshawn Lynch out of retirement. But, would the 30-year-old former All-Pro running back even want to return to the NFL? It’s not as if he needs the money.

2007 – 2011

Marshawn Lynch was the 12th pick in the 2007 NFL Draft. He signed a modest five-year deal worth $19 million with the Buffalo Bills at the time. Lynch saw around $14 million of that contract before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks midway through the 2010 season.

In his first ever playoff game on January 8, 2011, Lynch reeled off a dominant 67-yard touchdown run in which he broke nine tackles. The run quickly earned the nickname “Beast Quake” and marked the start of Lynch’s incredible mid-career resurgence.

2012 – 2015

Prior to the 2012 season, Lynch signed a four-year, $31 million deal with the Seahawks. The contract included a $6 million signing bonus and averaged $7.5 million per year. However, Lynch quickly outperformed his contract and a new deal was struck in March of 2015. This new contract gave Lynch $12 million in its first year. Lynch retired following the 2015-2016 season with a career earnings of $49.7 million.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported in March 2016 that, “Marshawn Lynch has a lot of money. He hasn’t spent a dime of his actual playing money…ever.”

A train station in Namur, Belgium has been evacuated due to a bomb threat. Police have confirmed the threat and are investigating.

What Happened?

Authorities have cleared the Namur Station in the Wallonia region of Belgium after receiving a telephone warning that two explosive devices were in the building.

Police and firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and completely evacuated the area. They also set up a security cordon.

A spokesperson for the SNCB rail network said rail services were being shut down as a precaution.

UPDATE: 1:00 P.M. EST: Standard railway traffic is set to resume after authorities cleared the area.

Namur is the main railway station serving Namur, Belgium. The station is used by 18,600 people every day, making it the eighth busiest station in Belgium and the first in Wallonia. The station first opened on October 23, 1843. It contains six platforms and 11 tracks.

In response to Donald Trump’s failed repeated attempts to pass an immigration ban, the University of Maryland plans to hire what they’re calling an “undocumented student coordinator.”

The university is drawing some backlash from advocates for strict enforcement of immigration laws, who say that the university is putting politics ahead of the law.

The decision comes after a campus group called ProtectUMD issued 64 demands of university officials.

One of these said demands called for “a full-time undocumented student coordinator to advocate for, advise, represent, and protect undocumented students.”

Bob Dane, executive director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, says Maryland’s move is about advancing a political agenda on campus and one that is opposed to the reforms the Trump administration wants.

“It’s about politics and this protest isn’t legitimate. A university can disagree with the law, but that doesn’t give them the right to aid and abet and harbor illegal immigration, which is really what all of these sanctuary policies and those at the University of Maryland are all about,” said Dane.

The university released a statement addressing the issue, saying, “The undocumented student office is part of the university’s ongoing commitment to undocumented students and we continue to consider ways to offer support.”

California college students may become the most enviable student body in the country.

On Monday of this week, California Democratic lawmakers proposed the Degrees Not Debt program which would help 400,000 University of California and California State University students to pay for tuition and living expenses (no, beer isn’t covered). The end goal of the program is to help students avoid getting bogged down in student loan debt and enable more young people to receive an education. The financial assistance would get more young adults into college and allow graduates to save more early on in their professional careers.

The average college student loan debt per graduate in California is $22,191. Student loan debt per capita in the state is $4,160, compared to the average student loan debt per capita in the U.S. of $4,920, according to student loan debt statistics from Make Lemonade.

The program would cost $1.6 billion over five years, according to the California Assembly Democratic Caucus.

“It is by far the most comprehensive and wide-reaching proposal in the country,” Lupita Cortez Alcalá, executive director of the California Student Aid Commission, told the Los Angeles Times.

The Degrees Not Debt program would also send more grants to community college students and would make the first year of community college tuition cost-free. Several grants – including Pell Grants, Middle Glass Scholarships, and others – would still be available to students. Students whose parents earn more than $60,000 per year would be expected to help pay for college and students would also be expected to work part-time to contribute towards the cost.

But around $33,000 worth of costs at University of California schools and $22,000 worth of costs at California State school would be covered by the program.

There’s one 11-seed the Creighton Bluejays (25-9) did not want to see in the round of 64, and that’s the Rhode Island Rams (24-9). The Rams finished the season on a tear and expect nothing less than to upset Creighton. On paper, this looks like a matchup that could definitely go either way.

URI was able to win their conference tournament, capturing the Atlantic 10 crown. Both of these squads have had roller-coaster years, and this could absolutely be a nailbiter.

Up next for the USA is a St. Patrick’s Day date with Puerto Rico. Both the USA and Puerto Rico got off to great starts in Pool F, as this will be a matchup of two undefeated teams. Puerto Rico picked up a huge 3-1 win over the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, highlighted by Javier Baez’s no-look tag.

The USA pulled off a thrilling comeback against Venezuela on Wednesday, as they were down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 7th. Jonathan Lucroy cut Venezuela’s lead in half with a sacrifice fly, but it was the bottom of the 8th inning where the USA would really do their damage. Adam Jones hit a solo home run to tie the game, and Eric Hosmer delivered a go-ahead, two-run bomb to give the USA a 4-2 lead.

The USA would hold on to beat Venezuela 4-2, with Pat Neshek earning the win and Luke Gregerson getting the save. It was a devastating loss for Venezuela, who wasted five innings of shutout ball from Felix Hernandez.
