Presidents’ Day is a national holiday that is celebrated every year on the third Monday of February. This year it will fall on Monday, February 20. Presidents’ Day, or, Washington’s Birthday as it is also known, was originally conceived to honor America’s first commander in chief. It was then moved back to also include Abraham Lincoln before finally being viewed as a day to honor all previous presidents.

Presidents’ Day was first recognized by the federal government in 1879, but the holiday took place on Washington’s actual birthday (February 22) until 1971 when it was moved to its current date. It is a paid holiday for all state employees.

As Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday, most banks will be closed. Some might be open, in which case you can call ahead to check. Ronald Lewis, a former Maj. General in the U.S. Army, will be demoted and retire as a brigadier general after he used a government credit card to pay for bills at strip clubs in both Rome and South Korea.

Cynthia Smith, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Army, told NBC that the Pentagon’s inspector general verified that Lewis, who was the senior military assistant to former Defense Secretary Ash Carter, will be demoted to the position of Brigadier General after it was discovered he used government credit cards for his visits to international strip clubs, made false statements, and “engaged in conduct unbecoming of an officer and a gentleman on multiple occasions.”

Lewis had reached the three-star rank of lieutenant general, but he was demoted to major general when Carter fired him more than a year ago after an investigation uncovered that Lewis had misused a government credit card and had become involved in an extramarital relationship.

Federal law states that military officers can retire only with the benefits of the rank they last served “satisfactorily” — a call the secretary of the Army makes for major generals and brigadier generals.

“In this case, the Secretary determined that Maj. Gen. Lewis’ highest grade of satisfactory service was as a Brigadier General,” Smith said.

It’s about damn time. I dare you to name a funnier male/female combo than Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler. Tina Fey and Seth Rogen? Nope. Kristen Wiig and Jonah Hill? Nuh uh. Amy Schumer and Kevin Hart? F*ck outta here. Danny McBride and Melissa McCarthy? Well, they may actually have a case. But other than that, in my semi-professional opinion, Amy Poehler is the funniest female comedic actor on Earth and Will Ferrell is Will Ferrell, his career speaks for itself.

That said, none of their recent projects have been particularly stellar. Ferrell hasn’t had a classic since about 2010 with The Other Guys. Sure, The Lego Movie was excellent, but we’re not going to count animation. Other than that, he’s starred in general crap such as Zoolander 2, Daddy’s home, Get Hard, and Anchorman 2. You could almost argue that even the great Will Ferrell is on a little bit of a cold streak.

As for Poehler, while Inside Out crushed, she hasn’t had much going for her since Parks & Rec ended.

Hopefully, finally putting these two comedic geniuses in the same movie will result in the best project either of them has done in years.

I am a SUCKER for these type of feel-good videos.

Had I caught this video at home with a little buzz on instead of sitting in our office stone-cold sober, you might actually have caught me shedding a tear or two. In a campaign called “Love Has No Labels,” the Ad Council and the NFL teamed up to create a PSA for Valentine’s Day.

The footage was taken at the Pro Bowl in Orlando, and the PSA turned the Kiss Cam into an opportunity to highlight love’s many different forms.

We get fights of the criminal vs. criminal or criminal vs. cop variety all of the time, but today, a video is going viral featuring a rare cop vs. cop showdown. Last week at the Hardin County Detention Center in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, deputy jailer Joe Fung and deputy sheriff Clennon Smith got into an intense fight.

Goddamn, Smith came in hot with the ol’ double hands to the throat choke hold. He clearly wasn’t messing around, which makes me think that these two had a history. There’s no way you go 0-100 like that to a colleague unless they’ve been getting under your skin for a long period of time. That was a ticking time bomb situation if I’ve ever seen one.

According to NBC4 Columbus, not only did Fung lose the fight, but he is also facing serious consequences.

Funk was arrested after the dispute with Deputy Sheriff Clennon Smith. Now Funk is facing charges of menacing, resisting arrest, and assault.

He is due in court later this week. Deputy Sheriff Smith is still on the job.

Let’s just hope that the inmates at Hardin County Detention Center don’t take this as a sign of dysfunction and weakness. That’s how elbow drops start happening.

Linda Hoffman of Placentia, California dropped off a bag of old clothes to Goodwill without knowing that there was $8,000 in the pocket of one of her husband’s old shirts. Not only that, but the money was a secret vacation stash that her husband had been saving for six years and was planning to use on a surprise trip to Italy with his wife when he retired.

Bob Hoffman had been secretly saving the cash for six years, planning to surprise his wife with a vacation to Italy when he retired. Two days later he realized the shirt – and his money – were missing.

He then fessed up to his secret plan and the two of them rushed over to the Goodwill donation center. Employees scrambled to track down the shirt, but had no luck.

“We looked at it as if it was gone, that we hoped it would go to somebody to help that family out,” Linda Hoffman said.

It wasn’t until the next day that Goodwill employee Caitlin Mulvihill came across a bulky pile of dress-up shirts. As she sifted through it, she found the shirt with Bob’s stash.

“I describe it as a miracle,” Hoffman said. “I would say that it was honest people and what touched our hearts the most is how honest they were.”

I can tell you right now, the Hoffmans are LUCKY I wasn’t working at this GoodWill. Sorry, but I would have pocketed that shit in a second. If you’re too dumb and/or lazy to take the time to at least double check what you’re about to give away, then you don’t deserve whatever it is you just unknowingly gave away.

I mean, what did we expect? I don’t have much experience or interaction with the organization, but something tells me the Cartel isn’t made up of the types of people who are going to roll over and die just because Agent Orange from the North is threatening to build a wall. U.S. border patrol agents in Arizona discovered and then promptly dismantled a catapult device used to sling marijuana into the United States from Mexico.

Agents made the discovery when they approached several people near the fence, who then scattered away, according to CNN. Two bundles of cannabis weighing a combined 47 lb (21 kg) were still attached to the catapult.

The U.S. federal agency tweeted the picture, joking that USBP agents “spring into action” dismantling the pot-flinging tool.

Everyone loves a good hero story, so here’s one about Elon Musk, Tesla, and one brave motorist.

The Muenchner Merkur reports (via Jalopnik) that 41-year-old Manfred Kick was cruising in his Tesla Model S when he spotted a man in a Volkswagen losing control of his car on the Autobahn outside of Munich, Germany. Kick quickly realized that the man was unconscious and decided to take action. He pulled in front of the Volkswagen and forced both cars to a careful stop. But Kick wasn’t done doing his superhero thing just yet.

He then went into the Volkswagen and performed first aid on the unconscious driver while passersby called emergency services. German authorities said that the driver, who appeared to have suffered a stroke, is in stable condition at a nearby hospital.

Unfortunately, Kick’s brave efforts resulted in €10,000 worth of damages to his Tesla, Jalopnik reports. However, Elon Musk caught wind of the story and offered to repair the car, free of charge.

This is a great example of a billionaire genius recognizing a good guy doing the right thing. Bravo to Musk and Tesla for responding in kind and a big thanks to Kick for potentially saving this man’s life. Take note, world.

As Rick James eloquently put it, “Cocaine is a hell of a drug.” And because coke is such an in-demand and illegal commodity, people have to get pretty creative when it comes to smuggling it into the United States. Enter the Transportation Security Administration.

Six current and six former TSA screening officers have been arrested for participating in an ambitious cocaine smuggling operation in Puerto Rico for nearly two decades. Earlier this week, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that 12 TSA employees have been hit with indictments for allegedly smuggling cocaine, making it past X-ray machines and onto airplanes for 18 years.

From 1998 to 2016, it is believed these TSA agents shipped roughly 20 tons of cocaine into the States through Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. How did they do it? By allegedly smuggling suitcases full of drugs through TSA checkpoints and onto departing flights. One Airport Aviation Services employee, who worked as a baggage handler and ramp operator, is charged with bribing TSA employees to clear suitcases containing between 17.6 lbs and 26.5 lbs of cocaine before taking the suitcases to their designated flights. The operation sometimes involved as many as five passengers carrying two cocaine-filled suitcases per person on a single flight.

The Drug Enforcement Agency took the lead on the investigation with assistance from the FBI, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations, the U.S. Marshals and Puerto Rican police.

“This investigation was initiated by TSA as part of its efforts to address employee misconduct and specific insider threat invulnerabilities,” José Baquero, Federal Security Director, Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands, said. “TSA has zero tolerance for employees engaged in criminal activity to facilitate contraband smuggling.”

For the charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, the defendants face a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.

Holy shit, I did not see that coming! The hunter became the hunted, as a hungry harbor seal came out of nowhere. As a lifelong Maryland resident, I couldn’t be happier that the crab was able to survive. The only time I like seeing crabs get eaten is when I’m the one enjoying the tasty crustaceans.

It’s so nice to see a crab pick up a W for a change, though. Revenge is a dish best served cold, and crabs everywhere finally got some octopus vengeance for this vicious homicide.

NC State athletic director Debbie Yow announced today that Mark Gottfried has been fired. The 53-year-old head coach of their men’s basketball team will finish out the rest of the season, but then he will be forced to hit the bricks.

Gottfried got off to a great start at NC State, posting a 92-52 record and a 39-31 mark in the ACC over his first four years with the Wolfpack. He made the NCAA Tournament every year, and he advanced to the Sweet Sixteen twice over this span.

The past two years have been pretty damn miserable, though. After going 16-17 (5-13 ACC) last season and missing the tourney, it’s been more of the same this year. NC State is currently 14-13 (3-11 ACC), and they’re in the midst of a brutal losing streak. They’ve lost their last six games, with their last three losses by an average margin of 26 points.

Gottfried’s current overall record at NC State is 122-82 (47-55 ACC), and he is still owed roughly $2.3 million for the last three years he has remaining on his contract. Good work if you can get it.

Michigan State University police have requested arrest warrants for three Spartans football players after conducting an investigation into a sexual assault claim, according to ESPN.

The Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office announced early Thursday that it expects to receive more evidence from authorities in the coming hours. A decision regarding the arrest warrants should be coming in the “short-term future.”

Police requested three warrants in relation to the sexual assault charges and a fourth warrant for a non-sexual crime related to the case. MSU athletic director Mark Hollis released the following statement:

“The core values of MSU Athletics are clear, consistently communicate and non-negotiable. Among them are respect for self and others, accountability for actions and choices, and integrity. Sexual assault is unacceptable, and members of MSU Athletics who fail to uphold our standards for creating a culture that is safe, supportive, and responsive to those affected by it will be held accountable. My expectation of all members of the department is full and complete cooperation with all investigations.

“We have a strong athletics program at MSU, one based on values, traditions, and an understanding that as Spartans we are part of something bigger. Our promise to current and future student-athletes and to the entire Spartan community is to take the steps necessary, based on the facts determined through thorough review, to run this program according to the highest values.”

Last week, Michigan State suspended three football players and one staff member as they wait for the results of the investigation. The three students were evicted from student housing.

Earlier this week, MSU confirmed that recruiting director Curtis Blackwell had been placed on paid suspension, though they declined to explain if his suspension was related to the assault investigation. The three players under investigation have not been named publicly.

A sexual assault complaint was originally filed in late January.

MSU’s athletic department also made it know that it has hired an independent law firm to review the football program’s Title IX compliance in dealing with the alleged assault.

According to The White House Task Force to Protect Students From Sexual Assault’s 2014 report, one in five college students experiences sexual assault during their college career. According to a small survey carried out by Sage Journals in 2016, 54% of student-athletes who participated admitted to coercing a partner into sex.

After a tough battle in the semifinals, we’ve managed to narrow down the country’s best group of college women, and now each of the finalists are representing their beloved school and NCAA conference.

Abigail Edwards is a junior at West Virginia University who’s studying Health Communications with minors in Business and Advertising. The cheerleader says that West Virginia doesn’t have any professional sports teams, so everyone roots for WVU.

She said, “My favorite school tradition is the playing of ‘Country Roads’ after every win! No matter what sport, after a win comes ‘Country Roads.’”

Back on February 5th, Genie Bouchard cavalierly bet a fan that if the Patriots won the Super Bowl, she would go on a date with him. Michigan (16-9, 6-6 Big Ten) will host No. 11 Wisconsin (21-4, 10-2) in what may be a must-win for the Wolverines. Michigan isn’t quite out of the postseason chase just yet, but they’re on the brink of missing out on the big dance. A win against the Badgers would speak volumes about the team’s capability and give them some much-needed momentum heading into another tough matchup against Purdue on February 25. Two wins against top 25 opponents will force a lot of people to look past their so-so record.

In order to protest Donald Trump’s immigration ban, a “Day Without Immigrants” protest was launched and executed today, causing McDonald’s locations across the United States to shut down.

On Thursday, organizers in cities across the country encouraged immigrants not to show up for work or patronize businesses in order to show how crucial of a role they play in the American economy.

In fact, some McDonald’s locations have been forced to close for the day.

“I was going to stop at McDonald’s for breakfast, but it’s closed,” one Facebook user from New Jersey wrote. “I hear it’s closed because this is the day immigrants are taking off as protest to Trump’s immigration law. I was annoyed at first until I realized why it was closed. Now I’m in full support of anything that goes against Trump and his ilk.”

“Just FYI. Today is immigrants day,” another Facebook user from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma wrote. “In spirit of it the McDonald’s on Douglas off the highway is closed. True story. Enjoy your day.”

The protest comes in response to President Donald Trump’s immigration ban, as well as plans to build a wall along the US-Mexico border. By refusing to work, participating immigrants are demonstrating what the United States would be with increased deportations and new immigration policies.
