Michigan State University is joining the several universities around the country and is opposing President Trump’s executive order on immigration. The university says it will not disclose the immigration status of its students.

“President Trump’s executive order on immigration is deeply concerning as it runs counter to the global nature of our communities and our nation. At MSU, our core values are quality, inclusiveness, and connectivity, and this action is an impediment to each. I am keenly aware of the need to address genuine risks to our nation but this order, and the manner it was implemented, is not the best approach. I join my AAU colleagues and other higher education leaders in expressing our concerns regarding the collateral damage caused by this action and calling for a quick end to the order. We must protect our borders, but we also must ensure we do not stem the flow of people of goodwill who come and work to make this nation better. Our students and scholars come from around the world to become Spartans, and then return to the world to make it better. We must not allow fear to change the nature of who we are.We have an executive team led by Steve Hanson, Associate Provost and Dean for International Studies and Programs, that is constantly monitoring the situation and communicating with affected faculty, staff and students.” said MSU president, Lou Anna K. Simon.

Due to university policies and existing federal law, not releasing this information is considered standard policy. A group of individuals from across the MSU campus will meet later this week to further talk about how this policy might have an effect on the students of the university, and what other universities around the state are doing about the executive order.

MSU’s stance for now is firmly against the executive order and the stance seems to mirror the opinions of the students.

It’s the most wonderful time of the NFL season, as the Super Bowl is finally here. On Sunday, the New England Patriots will take on the Atlanta Falcons for the most coveted prize in North American sports. With the Vince Lombardi Trophy on the line, let’s take a look at this exciting matchup.

Super Bowl 51 Preview

This will be the Patriots’ ninth Super Bowl appearance, which gives them the most Super Bowl appearances in NFL history. Before they won the AFC Championship, their eight appearances were tied for first with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys, and Denver Broncos.

New England has gone 4-4 in Super Bowls up to this point, and if they are able to win their fifth championship, they would move into a tie with the Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers for the second most titles. However, if they lost their fifth Super Bowl, this would tie them with the Broncos for the most Super Bowl losses in NFL history.

The Falcons are still looking for their first Super Bowl victory, as they were beaten by the Broncos 34-19 in their only previous Super Bowl appearance. This was Super Bowl 33, taking place all the way back on January 31, 1999. I’m just going to come out and say it: this is the best game we’ve had all college basketball season. Well, at least up to this point, because as everyone knows, March is a whole other story. Tonight gives us two of the best teams in the country going at one another, as the #2 Baylor Bears are traveling to Lawrence, Kansas to take on the #3 Kansas Jayhawks, and both teams are looking to make their cases for taking the #1 seed in March. Both teams are already viewed as national title contenders, and I expect them both to play like it tonight.

Baylor had a brief moment as the #1 team in the country, and by a brief moment, I mean that they lost the day of being ranked #1 for the first time in school history on the road to West Virginia by the score of 89-68, giving the Bears their only loss of the season. Other than that one blemish, Baylor has whooped on teams this year and has mostly done it on the defensive end, allowing teams to score 61.1 points a game, which is tied for seventh-best in the country. With five wins against Top 25 teams this year, Baylor has already solidified themselves as a national title contender going into March, and I really could see them cutting down the nets in March. I’m sure that would upset a lot of people with everything going on with the university’s football program at the moment, but I guess they’ll have to cross that bridge if or when the time comes.

Talk about a brutal three-game stretch. Three Top 20 teams in a row with their last two games being on the road, and now they get the #2 team in the country, that’s been the past week for your #3 Kansas Jayhawks. After getting beat up pretty good on the road by West Virginia, the Jayhawks got a very impressive win in Lexington last Saturday, as they came back from a five-point halftime deficit to defeat the #4 Kentucky Wildcats. Personally, I think Kansas giving up 6.5 points is a lot for people thinking about betting on this game, but I give the Jayhawks the edge tonight for the sole reason that they’re going to be playing in front of an absolutely rocking home crowd tonight, which I think goes a long way in college sports. I know where I’ll be tonight at 9:00 P.M. EST: glued in front of my television watching these teams go at one another. As Bart Scott once said, “CAN’T WAIT.”

“Making Dennis Reynolds a Murderer” Trailer

A protest at UC Berkeley violent Wednesday night causing a shut down of a scheduled speech by right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos.

Yiannopoulos, a Breitbart News editor ,was scheduled to give a speech inside at UC Berkeley campus building until hundreds of protesters began throwing fireworks and pulling down the metal barricades set up by the police.

The Berkeley Police Department said people threw bricks, smoking objects, and fireworks at police officers. Windows were smashed and fires were set outside the building. University police locked down all buildings and ordered a shelter in place.

“This is what tolerance looks like at UC Berkeley,” said Mike Wright, a Berkeley College Republican member said.

While the university argued they allowed the Yiannopoulos’ appearance due to free speech, protesters argued that hate speech isn’t free speech, thus protesting his event.

According to the LA Times, UC Davis interim Chancellor Ralph Hexter said he was “deeply disappointed” by the protests and the cancellation.

“Our community is founded on principles of respect for all views, even those that we personally find repellent,” Hexter said in a statement after the cancellation. “As I have stated repeatedly, a university is at its best when it listens to and critically engages opposing views, especially ones that many of us find upsetting or even offensive.”

Furthermore, Hexter said he worried that outside groups are using college campuses to initiate conflict with the hope of reaching the national stage.

Up until this point the University of California has resisted calls to cancel Yiannopoulos’ appearance

According to the report, UC President Janet Napolitano advocacy of fighting offensive speech with “more speech” rather than censorship was included in “Principles Against Intolerance” approved by UC regents last year as guidelines for the 10-campus system.

Yiannopoulos posted on his Facebook page that he was safe shortly before 6:30 PM EST.

“I have been evacuated from the UC Berkeley campus after violent left-wing protestors tore down barricades, lit fires, threw rocks and Roman candles at the windows and breached the ground floor of the building,” the post read. “My team and I are safe. But the event has been cancelled.”

Earlier in the week, a letter from a  dozen faculty members argued that his speech should be canceled on the grounds that his actions — which the signing members considered “harassment, slander, defamation, and hate speech” — violated UC Berkeley’s code of conduct.

The University of California-Berkeley has stressed it did not invite Yiannopoulos and does not endorse his ideas but is committed to free speech and rejected calls to cancel the event.

Ah, Groundhog Day, the most idiotic holiday known to man. The fact that it even qualifies as a holiday makes me flat-out sick and is highly offensive to Christmas, Thanksgiving, Labor Day, Halloween, July 4th, and Memorial Day. Not New Year’s Eve, though. That holiday is trash too. Anyway, back to Groundhog Day. Each year, all of those buffoons in Punxsutawney, PA wake up poor Punxsutawney Phil from his winter’s slumber, shove his ass in front of a light, and actually believe that whether or not he sees his shadow determines when spring will come.

Uh hey, dumbasses: he’s a godforsaken groundhog, he’s physically incapable of telling you whether or not he can see his shadow. While we’re at it, of course, he sees his shadow, if you put anyone under a bright light their shadow is going to appear. And don’t even get me started on actually believing whether or not a rodent sees his shadow determines if we’re going to have six more weeks of winter or not. It’s the beginning of February, of course we’re going to have more winter ahead of us, you incompetent morons. I’m not even going to apologize for sounding like a grumpy old person because this day drives me insane. If Trump were to do away with this pointless holiday, he may just earn himself a vote from yours truly in 2020.

Thursday, February 2, 2017 is Groundhog Day, so what better time than now to look back on the origins of the quirky holiday. Groundhog Day is celebrated every year on February 2, but while the date remains the same, what the groundhog ends up doing is always up in the air.

If it’s sunny out and the groundhog sees its shadow, it will retreat back into its burrow, and we’ll be stuck with six more weeks of winter. If it’s cloudy out and the groundhog doesn’t see its shadow, it will leave its burrow, and we’ll get an early spring.

Now that you know the gist of Groundhog Day, let’s take a deeper dive into the holiday.

Groundhog Day History

The first official Groundhog Day in the United States took place on February 2, 1887. The custom was created by the Pennsylvania Dutch, and it took inspiration from European folklore. Groundhog Day celebrations take place all over the U.S. and Canada, but the biggest spectacle is still in Pennsylvania.

At Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, massive crowds as large as 40,000 people gather to participate in the festivities. There is music, food, and speeches all leading up to the main event of groundhog Punxsutawney Phil getting his prognostication on.

Early Thursday morning, Phil will emerge from his burrow to make his prediction on whether or not we’ll get an early spring. There’s not really any evidence that Phil actually knows what the hell he’s doing. His results have been a mixed bag over the years, but there’s no reason to let a little thing like accuracy get in the way of a good time.

Groundhog Day Gambling

Groundhog Day Movie

As a huge Bill Murray fan, I’d be remiss to write an entire post about Groundhog Day without touching on Murray’s iconic film. Groundhog Day was released in 1993, and the movie was both a critical and commercial success. The comedy made $70.9 million at the box office on a $14.6 million budget, and it currently boats a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In Groundhog Day, Murray plays a Pittsburgh TV weatherman named Phil Connors. Connors is pretty much a huge jerk, and he gets stuck in a time loop while covering Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney. After living the same day over and over again, he learns from his mistakes and makes changes for the better.

Nina Scott, 28, a Pennsylvania woman who taught at a school for troubled youth was arrested after she allegedly had an eight-month-long sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student. Scott is facing 70 charges, including four counts of institutional sexual assault of a minor and 34 counts of corruption of minors.

The 28-year-old Downingtown woman said she was buying a new headboard “for our bed.” She called her two-year-old daughter “our baby girl.” She referred to the student as her girlfriend. She mentioned “rolling over in [her] bed and missing [the student] because she was not there,” according to a criminal complaint.

Police said she frequently signed the letters “Pretty.”

On Wednesday, Nina Scott of Downingtown, Chester County, was arrested and charged with 34 counts each of institutional sexual assault of a minor and corruption of minors, and two related charges.

Scott is accused of sexually assaulting the girl on school property, in her vehicle, and at her home from February to October of last year, while Scott was a teacher at TheVillage, police said. TheVillage is a residential child-care facility in  Radnor Township where students are sent by court order. It was formerly Presbyterian Children’s Village.

After the student left the school, she stayed at the Mid-Atlantic Youth Services facility in Luzerne County, where, during a routine inspection of the student’s room, staff members found letters from Scott and a journal in which the girl made romantic references to Scott, police said.

In the journal, the student referred to her former teacher as her girlfriend and called Scott “future wife,” “the love of my life,” and “good in bed,” according to the criminal complaint.

During interviews with police, Scott and the student, who has yet to be identified, at first denied their sexual relationship, claiming Scott was just a mentor to the girl. According to the court documents, the student said the relationship started when she gave Scott a note asking, “How would you feel if I kissed you?” and asking whether she would tell anyone. Scott returned the note saying she would not tell. The student said she kissed Scott inside her classroom. Like something out of a movie.

Lacey Sponsler, 34, a choir teacher, has been arrested for indecent exposure after she allegedly did a cartwheel in front of her class of high school students and flashed her “bare vagina and bum.” Classic mistake.

Sponsler, who was teaching at Pawhuska High School in Oklahoma, was wearing a long dress when she busted out a cartwheel, accidentally exposing herself to the entire class.

Sponsler was recorded on Snapchat by a 17-year-old student.A police officer who watched the Snapchat video said she “was not wearing any type of underwear.”

Pawhuska police chief Scott Laird released a statement Tuesday evening saying that the teacher exposed herself while doing a cartwheel in front of the high school choir class.

According to an affidavit, the teacher told students about previous drug use in her life, said “she thought 14-year-old boys were like men” and announced that she was not wearing underwear before performing the cartwheel.

Sponsler was arrested on Tuesday afternoon, however, she reportedly denied doing the cartwheel and told police she was “just dancing with the students” and “trying to be a cool teacher.”

Luz Portillo, a 24-year-old UC Santa Cruz student, has won one of the largest rape settlements ever after she claims she was raped by a professor. Her attorneys announced that the University Of California-Santa Cruz had agreed to pay her $1.15 million to settle before charges were filed. The million dollar settlement is one of the largest Title IX settlements in history.

Portillo claimed that an assistant Latin American studies professor, Hector Perla, took her out, got her drunk, and raped her in 2015. Portillo alleges that Perla invited her and another female student to a wine-tasting at Loma Prieta Winery on June 13, 2015.

The settlement was granted for what she claims was the university’s failure to address previous allegations of sexual harassment and sexual violence by the professor. Portillo claims that Perla gave her many drinks, “causing her to become severely intoxicated and lose her memory,” the complaint states.

 While at the wine-tasting event, Perla encouraged [Portillo] to consume large quantities or wine, causing her to become severely intoxicated and lose her memory,” the complaint states. The three then went to the student-employee’s home, “where they supplied Claimant with more wine. The two employees then “engaged in non-consensual sex acts with Portillo, who was severely intoxicated to the point she was not fully conscious.”

After reporting the rape to her school, Portillo said the university began to show a bias toward Perla and “minimized what happened.”

“I had to become my biggest advocate. I didn’t want to go unnoticed,” she said. “I received very little help from my university, but I drew strength from other women at other schools who went public with their sexual assault.”

Portillo’s attorney, John Kristensen, said that the school “deliberately ignored” claims of sexual harassment by faculty, despite the fact that Perla had a history of drinking with students. Perla was allegedly known for inviting students out for beers, had “moved the class to a bar” one time, and had reportedly dated other students.

Is it blasphemous of me to say that in a photoshoot including Jennifer Lopez and Kate Moss, redheaded Jessica Chastain is actually the hottest women in this photo? Well, if it is wrong then I guess I’m going straight to hell because Chastain is out here smoking the rest of these girls.

In my semi-professional opinion, Jessica Chastain is one of the most naturally beautiful women in the world, with her fire red hair and curvy figure giving her one of the best looks in Hollywood.

Now, does that take anything away from J.Lo or Taraji P. Henson, who are both varsity level smokes of their own rights? Of course not. All I’m trying to do is give my honest opinion, and honestly, I think Jessica Chastain is the easy pick here.

During his speech at today’s National Prayer Breakfast, Donald Trump inexplicably decided to insult Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger took over the hosting duties of The Apprentice when Trump committed to run for office, and apparently, Donald was not a fan of his work. It’s honestly amazing how much of a narcissistic asshole Trump is at this point. I thought that when he got elected President he would dial it back a bit, but he’s still going full stream ahead.

The National Prayer Breakfast is pretty damn important, as it’s happened every year since 1953. Political and religious leaders from all over the world attend to break bread and build relationships, making it not an ideal venue for potshots about f*cking reality TV ratings.

Schwarzenegger took to Twitter to issue a response and propose an interesting switch.

These are the types of teachers who genuinely make a difference in their students’ lives. I had a lot of great teachers throughout the years, but the ones I remember most are the teachers I made personal connections with. To this day, I keep in touch with my high school Spanish teacher. That woman was like a second mother to me during some of the craziest years in my life, but I always knew she had my back. She was just one of those teachers who you knew actually cared about you and not your proficiency scores.

Jesus, that was impressive. The speed and flexibility needed to pull something like that off is insane. I can barely make it past the first round of a limbo competition, so I’m positive I would’ve gotten my head knocked clean off of my shoulders from that kick. Even Dana White himself dug the slick move.

I also loved the sound effect that was added to the video. If you’re going to compare yourself to a film that won several Academy Awards in that field, you’ve gotta spare no expense and throw in a quality “WHOOOSH” sound to really drive home the athleticism. Such a nice touch.

Although Fiziev won the battle of going viral, Petchyindee won the actual fight via decision. I guess whoever said defense wins championships is a goddamn liar.

For real, nothing will make you feel like you’re about to meet God more than eating an overly potent edible, so I actually understand the move here. You get those in attendance so f*cking stoned that they feel like they’re about to meet their maker. Quite the brilliant move, if you ask me.

Brian Jones, a 74-year-old Bloomington man, was arrested after police say he gave churchgoers THC-laced cookies last May. God bless this man for still getting turnt at church at the age of 74. Talk about staying woke.

According to court documents, Jones was arrested after several congregation members at the St. John’s the Apostle Catholic Church in Bloomington, Indiana went to the emergency room due “adverse effects” from eating weed cookies that Jones passed out after the 9:15 A.M. service.

Six congregation members told police they had eaten one of the cookies, with three reporting the cookies tasted “saltier” than normal. All six people tested positive for cannabinoids.

During an interview with police, Jones said he had made the cookies Saturday night and took them to church with him that morning, but said he didn’t know anything about an illegal substance being added to them.

After obtaining a search warrant for Jones’ Bloomington residence, officers found an orange pill bottle containing capsules of a brown, oily substance, which later tested positive for marijuana.

Jones turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He faces preliminary charges of criminal recklessness and possession of hash oil.

Administrators from the Duval County Courthouse have confirmed that a graphic video of a sex act posted to social media did indeed take place on the building’s fourth-floor while it was operating under its usual business hours.

According to court records, 26-year-old Brittney Jones was scheduled to appear in courtroom 401 for a 9:00 A.M. arraignment in regards to her January 19 arrest for a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. After pleading no contest, Jones was sentenced to serve two days in jail. She was fined and released. Jones has not yet been charged in the latest incident regarding the video.

The video is too graphic to share, but it was posted online by the woman who recorded the video, Brittney Jones. We’re not going to link to it, but if you kick around Twitter, you can find it.

According to CBS, the other person in the video may work at the courthouse. While court officials said the person is not a courthouse administration employee, they conceded that he may be part of courthouse security.

Jones, who was in court for drug charges, tweeted out the video saying “Just found a way to get out of trouble.”

Jones’ Twitter account, which already included sexually explicit images and videos, gained an additional 26,000 followers.

According to Jacksonville.com, Jones’ arrest record shows six arrests since 2008:

Arrests include a 2009 charge of aggravated battery, followed by battery on an inmate two months later when she was in jail. She also has a domestic battery charge in July 2015, as well as written threats to kill or do bodily harm, and was released January 22, 2016, after spending six months in jail, records show. Her January 19 arrest also included charges of violation of probation and smuggling contraband into jail, but she was only charged with the possession count in court this week.
