There are only two days left in 2016 (thank GOD), and if there’s one thing we hope for in the new year it’s for people to stop being so sh*tty…and for Harambe to magically come back to life. But I digress. For now, I just wish the temperature was about 30 degrees warmer.

It’s only December, but we’ve got warmer weather on the brain, and it just so happens that Miss COED 2017 semifinalist, Abigail Patricy is thinking the same. When we sat down with the 20-year-old from Bowling Green State University, we learned that she’s a bit of an adrenaline junkie who wants to travel the world, so naturally, we invited ourselves.

If you could travel anywhere in the world for Spring Break, where would you go?

When I think of Spring Break, my mind automatically imagines being by the ocean with the warm air and a worry-free mind for a week straight. My dream vacation would be paradise, so I would love to travel to the Bahamas. I would like to go somewhere that is like nothing I have ever seen before, especially because I have never left the country. What could be better than spending time in clear, blue water and white sand on a beautiful island? It just screams PERFECTION.

Who do you look up to the most and why?

Whenever I am asked this question, one person automatically pops up in my head. His name is Hank Patricy, or to me I call him my dad. Anyone who has known my dad would know why he is such an inspiration to me. I have never met someone like him who is so generous, smart, loving, creative, friendly, and makes every bad day turn around and become a good day. He is one of the strongest Christians I have known. He was always so involved in the community, our church, coaching sports; you name it and he was there. Numerous people have come up to me throughout my life and told me how my father has inspired them or changed their life for the better. He used to go to the detention home every month to drop off little Bibles and to talk to the boys there who were troubled. He gave them hope and helped them make a better future for themselves. He was in the praise band at church every Sunday and played the base guitar and sang. He always made time for family and always had fun things planned for all of us to do. When I think of how I want to inspire or help others, I think “What would my dad do?” Unfortunately, God said He needed my dad to come home to Heaven, and he has passed. But he still lives in my heart and the footsteps that he has left behind him still remain in our lives. I have never met anyone who can compare. 

Name one thing on your bucket list.

Okay most of the time people say things like go sky-diving or eat pasta in Italy, (personally hope I do both of those) but one goal that I have always had as a New Year’s resolution has always been to learn how to play the piano. I tried to learn this past year, but once I stopped, I just couldn’t get back on it. I forgot the whole two minutes of the song that I tried so hard to learn (LOL oops). There is something about playing an instrument that impresses me. I always wished that I was that talented myself. My sister’s boyfriend even surprised me with my own piano this summer but I had to leave it behind when I came back to school. I think that if I try hard enough, I can be good at it! Even if I learn one song and I do not forget it this time, I would feel accomplished. So one thing I want to do before I kick the bucket is to learn to play the piano. I know, not as crazy as you were hoping for!

Which organization on campus are you most passionate about and why?

I am most passionate about my sorority that I became a part of during my freshman year. I am an Alpha Xi Delta, and being a part of this sisterhood has done so much for me. I have lifelong friends, support, laughs, and tears with these ladies. It is nice to have somewhere I know I belong when I am away from home. Alpha Xi Delta is a second family to me. Between studying for finals, grabbing lunch, or hitting up the gym, there is a sister there for me at all times. Not to mention my Xi Fam! I do not know what I would do with out them. I know that these girls will be in my life years from now, and standing there to support me on my wedding day. There is nothing like a sister and a home away from home. 

Cliché, but where do you see yourself in five years? Ready, set, go!

I actually spend a good amount of time thinking about my future. Especially while being in college, these next few years are when I plan on goes through a bunch of changes in my life. Five years from now I see myself being graduated, living in an apartment in a big city that leads in fashion, such as NYC or LA. I also see myself spending a lot of my free time with my friends and family, despite how busy I will be with work. I will hopefully be working for a good company as a buyer or fashion director. I hope I have also spent a lot of time within those five years, traveling to different parts of the world while I’m still young and have time for those adventures. I want to get the most out of life that I can.

Aside from being motivated AF, Abigail is also following in her dad’s footsteps. As a proud sister in Alpha Xi Delta, Abigail is helping the less fortunate through her sorority’s philanthropy, Autism Speaks. Every year, she helps raise money to support those with special needs.

Autism Speaks is the philanthropy that my sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, raises money for every single year in order to support those with special needs. We have many events throughout the year. We recently had a benefit dinner where we sold tickets and raffled off donated baskets in order to raise money. Also, we have an event a few weeks ago called Fuzzie Football where people all over campus create teams for flag football and compete to become the next champions. All proceeds go straight to Autism Speaks as well!

Science has proven that there’s no better way of preparing for a night out than with a shower beer or two. Studies show that the warm water pouring over your head, combined with the taste of cold beer, almost immediately maximizes the midi-chlorians within your stem cells, thereby making your pleasure receptors three times more receptive. You can’t argue facts, and why should you? Shower beers are the best.

Apparently Stockholm-based brewing company Pangpang also agrees with us, which is why they teamed up with the creative team, Snask, to create the ultimate shower beer, called Shower Beer. What sets Shower Beer apart from the rest (in addition to being the official shower beer of pregames), is that it’s small, only 18 CL, meaning that you’re able to down it in three or four big sips. The small size ensures the beer stays cold for the duration of the time you’d like to drink it.

Rather than setting down your shower beer, having it dilute with warm shower water, you can drink a Shower Beer, and get back to washing up. Additionally, the 10% ABC means that you’ll still get the desired effect of the beer.

We’ve always wanted to have our own beer (like all hipsters do). But not any beer and certainly not just a regular creative agency brew saying “Snask Lager.” We wanted an idea, a concept, something bigger than just the actual beer. Something that could kickstart the night and act as your power up while fixing your hair and listening to “Dressed For Success” on repeat. We already work with the local genius brewer Fredrik “PangPang” Tunedal so it felt obvious that he would be the backbone of the brewing part.

Truthfully, the only thing we’d improve on is dumping the bottle and replacing it with a can. Having stepped on broken glass in the shower before, I can promise you that a trip to the ER is not a good way to get a pregame going.

As the college football bowl season rolls along, the games keep getting better and better. It’s a very similar phenomenon to how I get better and better looking the more drinks the people around me have. Today’s marquee matchup is the Alamo Bowl, which will feature the 13th ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys (9-3) taking on the 11th ranked Colorado Buffaloes (10-3). It should be a highly entertaining shootout, as Oklahoma State averages 38.7 points per game and Colorado averages 32.8 points per game.

This will be the 24th edition of the Alamo Bowl, and it will be the 10th game with Valero Energy as the sponsor. The Alamo Bowl has always been played in the aptly named Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, but the matchup criteria has changed in recent years. Since 2010, the bowl has pitted the second choice team from the Pac-12 Conference and the third choice team from the Big 12 Conference against each other.

Oklahoma State and Colorado used to face off frequently, as from 1996-2010 they were both members of the Big 12. With Colorado leaving the Big 12 for the Pac-12 in 2011, this will be their first meeting since 2009. Oklahoma State won their most recent contest, beating Colorado in Stillwater 31-28 in 2009. But the Buffaloes still hold the all-time advantage, as they’ve gone 26-19-1 in their 46 meetings against the Cowboys.

Neither of these schools are a stranger to the Alamo Bowl stage, as this will be Oklahoma State’s fourth time and Colorado’s second time playing in this bowl. The Cowboys’ four Alamo Bowl appearances are tied for the most all-time, and they have gone 1-2 up to this point. The Buffaloes’ two Alamo Bowl appearances are tied for the seventh most all-time, and they lost their first Alamo Bowl 31-28 (OT) to Wisconsin in 2002.

Bombshells is a chain of restaurants with a simple but very effective premise. They have attractive females wear skimpy, military-themed attire and watch the money roll in. The money has been flowing like crazy ever since Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election too. Bombshells currently has only four locations in Texas, but they’ve been having so much success lately that they are planning to open more than 100 restaurants across the country over the next five years.

Revenue across the chain’s locations surged by six per cent last fiscal year, and the value of parent company RCI Hospitality has skyrocketed since Trump was named president-elect.

Shares for the hospitality company, which operates a string of strip clubs in addition to its military-themed eateries, have gone up by 40 per cent to $15.95 since November 8, the New York Post reports.

‘I think overall the election is turning out to be very, very positive for us so far,’ RCI CEO Eric Langan said earlier this month on a conference call.

I’m not sure if this is what Trump meant when he said that he would “Make America Great Again,” but I’ll gladly take it. If we can avoid a World War III and get an influx of restaurants with scantily clad waitresses, these next four years might not be so bad after all. I’d climb a wall the size of a goddamn skyscraper if these babes were waiting for me on the other side.

Kyle Thomson, a 22-year-old student at Iowa State University, died tragically earlier this week during a weightlifting accident. According to a spokesman for the Elite Edge Transformation Center, where the accident occurred, Kyle was bench-pressing 315-pounds when his grip slipped and the barbell crushed his neck.

Our thoughts are with Kyle’s family and friends during this tough time. Here’s a story of a good kid trying to stay in shape and healthy when some freak accident happens and takes his life way too soon. To us, the scariest part about this story is that Thomson reportedly had spotters (plural) watching him as he was lifting. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve asked for a spot, and I’ve never seen or heard of anything like this before. Absolutely unfair and tragic.

Who Was Kyle Thomson?

Kyle Thomson was a 22-year-old student at Iowa State University, where he studied criminal justice. After he graduated from Iowa State, Thomson told friends and peers that he wanted to be a K9 handler.

Thomson had recently quit his job at Lowe’s and traded it in to work at the Youth Emergency Services & Shelter in Des Moines. Like we said, this couldn’t have happened to a better man.

What Happened?

Thomson was bench pressing a 315-pound barbell (with spotters) at Elite Edge Transformation Center, a gym in Ankeny, Iowa. While Thomson was benching the weight, his grip slipped and the spotters weren’t able to catch the bar before it fell on him, crushing his neck and causing massive internal damage. The spokesman for Elite Edge says that “The trainer, manager, and members who were on-site called authorities and an ambulance. Unfortunately, the member later died at a local hospital.”

The #4 ranked Washington Huskies (12-1) are getting ready to take on the #1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide (13-0) in the Peach Bowl on Saturday, December 31. If Washington is able to pull off the upset over the heavily favored Alabama squad, they will earn the right to compete for the National Championship.

While most analysts are discussing inconsequential stuff like will the Huskies be able to move the ball against the top defense in college football (11.8 points per game) or will Washington be able to stop Alabama’s 13th ranked rushing attack (245.0 yards per game). The real x-factor in this College Football Playoff matchup is on the sidelines. That’s right, I’m referring to none other than Washington cheerleader Allie Bruener.

Allie is known all over the country for her ability to whip crowds into a frenzy and distract the opposition with her jaw-dropping looks. I’m sure Nick Saban’s been game planning like crazy, trying to scheme up ways to limit her impact on the game. Easier said than done, Nicky.

It’s no surprise that Allie is a great athlete with tons of Huskies spirit, as her dad is retired football player Mark Bruener. Mark played tight end for the University of Washington from 1991-1994, and he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers as the 27th overall pick in the 1995 NFL Draft. He would play for Pittsburgh from 1995-2003 and the Houston Texans from 2004-2008.

We’re nearing the end of bowl season, which is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it’s a major bummer that the college football season is almost over. But on the other, it’s awesome that the best teams in the country are getting ready to face off. And the 71st edition of the Citrus Bowl is no exception, as the #19 ranked LSU Tigers will take on the #15 ranked Louisville Cardinals in what should be a high-scoring, tightly-contested affair.

The Tigers (7-4) and Cardinals (9-3) will be playing each other for the first time ever, making this a historic clash between the two schools. This will also be the first time LSU or Louisville has ever played in a Citrus Bowl, and it will be the first bowl game for LSU head coach Ed Orgeron.

Unfortunately for Orgeron, he’ll be making his head coaching bowl debut without star running back Leonard Fournette. To avoid injury and get ready for the 2017 NFL Draft, Fournette decided to sit out the Citrus Bowl. In just seven games this year, Fournette ran for 843 yards on 129 carries (6.5 ypc) and eight TDs.

While there will be lots of firsts for LSU in this game, their program still has plenty of experience playing in big games. Heading into their 48th bowl appearance, the Tigers have posted a 24-22-1 record, and they have won three National Championships.

Louisville may not have the same pedigree as LSU, but they are certainly no slouches when it comes to playing under the bright lights. This will be the Cardinals’ 21st bowl appearance in school history, and they have compiled a 10-9-1 record. Bobby Petrino is 5-4 in bowl games over his career and 3-3 as the head coach of Louisville.

Amanda Nunes is one of the top-flight female UFC fighters in the world. The Brazilian mixed martial artist, known as Amanda “The Lioness” Nunes, holds the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title after defeating Miesha Tate at UFC 200 and will have to defend it against Ronda Rousey at UFC 207. Despite the fact that Nunes is the reigning champion and extremely proficient in striking attacks, a majority of fight analysts are predicting Rousey to win by armbar, but that’s the kind of chip on her shoulder that Nunes needs. She can use that posterboard material to get into Rousey’s head.

According to their website, this is the third to last video for LOVE Magazine’s 2016 Advent Calendar. That royally sucks, but I guess all good things must come to an end. Thankfully, LOVE Magazine is hitting the finish line like they’re Usain Bolt. Celebrate the calendar going out with a bang by watching Rose Bertram do some first-rate sun bathing.

Amazon Echos are entering more and more homes this year. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? As the owner of both an Echo and a Dot, I think it’s a good thing. I can play music from anywhere, set alarms and timers without reaching for my phone, and ask Alexa to order Ubers for me. But if I had a child, I might think getting an Echo was a bad idea.

Just watch what happens when this seemingly sweet kid asks Alexa to play “Digger Digger.”

Is This Viral Video Real or Fake?

A lot of people think that the video is a fake, but it’s not. Hand to God, there’s an actual song called “Porn Detected! (Porno Ringtone Hot Chick Amateur Girl Calling Sexy F*ck C*nt Sh*t Sex C*ck Pu**y Anal Dildo Ringtones for Android).” The track is really a ringtone from the album (?) Ultimate Comedy Ringtones Volume 2 that can be found on Spotify and other music streaming services.

The Amazon Echo just thought that the kid asked for that to be played.

Tedak Purna is a pilot for an Indonesian airline, Citilink. Apparently, he’s also convinced that 2016 wasn’t nearly a bad enough year, so he took it upon himself to try to crash a passenger jet by showing up to work piss drunk. We’re talking stumbling, dropping everything, mumbling, and running-into-doors drunk. Thankfully the airline crew and cabin members eventually got him to leave the cockpit, but it wasn’t something that was easy to do. In fact, it took Purna’s slurred speech over the PA to get concerned passengers to ask that he be removed from the plane.

For his part, Purna was fired. Additionally, the president of Citilink will resign over the matter.

What Happened?

Honestly, the story would be a lot funnier if the ramifications weren’t so serious. In the CCTV footage from the security checkpoint, Purna’s drunkenness is like something out of a comedy sketch. First, he hits the security door, then he can’t keep his balance while standing still, and then he drops half of his bags’ contents on the floor. Knowing damn well he can’t pick it up and stay standing up, he waits for the security guards to help him. They do that and then he drops his hat.

After he gets his hat and bag together, he tries thanking the security attendants (who are literally not doing their job by keeping people safe) but drops his sunglasses on the floor. They break. Like we said: it’d be hilarious if this guy wasn’t about to fly up to 186 people.

But wait! There’s more!

Purna manages to stumble his way all the way to the gate, get on the plane, and finally sit in his pilot seat. So, he does what any normal pilot does and makes an announcement over the PA system. Apparently, this was his undoing. The passengers were alarmed by his slurred speech and demanded to have him removed from the plane.

The holiday season is finally over. Christmas came and hopefully we got all of the neat presents that we were hoping for. Now we’ve got New Year’s Day, a perfect opportunity to show off some of favorite Christmas gifts while also drinking shots of vodka with our friends and loved ones. This day could also be known as National Hangover Day.

It’s also the day that you may want to return the gifts you don’t want/need or cash some checks you got from relatives at a bank, but how are you planning do all of that when all you want to do is drink water and eat grilled cheese mixed with some Advil to combat that raging hangover? Are Banks Open On New Year’s Day 2017?

No banks will be open on New Year’s Day 2017, which makes sense considering the fact that New Year’s Day is considered a federal holiday. If you’re smart like me you’ve made your deposits and withdrawals on New Year’s Eve (depending on what bank you use). Or you could just hit up an ATM too. Whatever it is, make it easy on yourself and prepare for your hangover ahead of time.

New Year’s Day is actually a big shopping day. Obviously not as big as shopping on Black Friday or the days near Christmastime, but there are still some good deals out there that people will want to take advantage of if they didn’t get a chance during the holiday season. Plus as I mentioned earlier, you probably want to exchange or return some stuff you didn’t like. Here is a list of some big name stores that will be open on New Year’s Day.

In straight-out-of-a-damn-movie news, Miss COED 2017 semifinalist, Kelsey Stone sprinted through the Cambodian jungle, tackled four poachers, said “EFF YOU,” and sent them to jail. Okay, I’m not sure if she actually tackled those a**holes and cursed at them, but that’s how I imagine it going down in my head.

The junior at California State University – Fullerton went on a volunteer trip to Cambodia through Reach Out Volunteers, an organization whose mission it is to “help make a difference in impoverished communities across the world as well as help save and protect endangered wildlife.” In other words, Kelsey officially receives the award for Most Badass/Awesome/DopeAF Miss COED contestant EVER. Congrats girl, and keep doing what you do. The world could use more people like you, TBH.

What’s your biggest accomplishment thus far?

My biggest accomplishment is capturing four poachers in the Cambodian jungle. I was on a volunteer trip and we were reforesting a section of the jungle when we spotted a small fire which had just been started. Four men started sprinting through the trees and we ended up catching them and sending them to jail. It was honestly as unreal and dramatic as it sounds, but it made me feel really good that we potentially saved some endangered wildlife from becoming someone’s next meal or their pocket change.

What’s your most memorable moment at school?

My most memorable moment at school is the first week of my freshman year. I got hit in the eye with a softball at practice and I had a huge swollen bruised face. I had to meet a lot of people like that for the first time.

Give your BFF a shoutout! What’s his/her name and how long have you been besties?

My best friend’s name is Marcus. We have been best buds since kindergarten. We fought over our third musketeer, and when she moved to a different school, we were stuck together. Throughout the years, we went to traffic school together, were crowned prom King and Queen, and both moved to Orange County after high school graduation.

Do you have any secret talents?

My only “secret” talent is that I’m a self-taught special effects MUA [makeup artist, FYI]. It’s not completely a secret, though, because I do have an Instagram account which I post holiday-themed makeup turned gore (@__vanityinsanity).

What exactly is Reach Out Volunteers, and how did you first get involved?

Reach Out Volunteers is a volunteer group that is on a mission to help make a difference in impoverished communities across the world, as well as to help save and protect endangered wildlife. ROV travels to South Africa, Cambodia, Mozambique, and more to help make a difference in the local communities. I first got involved about a year ago after hearing about the program through a friend and being accepted through the application process.

Why choose this organization out of the thousands you could choose from for various other causes?

I chose this organization because the team leaders really made me feel welcome as soon as I showed interest in the program. My career path is focused on saving exotic wildlife, so when I researched ROV and learned that they had programs specifically centered around endangered wildlife, I knew I needed to be involved. ROV has many programs dedicated to different missions which allow for almost anyone to find something that speaks to them.

We’re finally switching gears and heading into 2017, and let me tell you, I couldn’t be more excited. This year has been a bit of a bummer for most people, so hopefully we will have a better year to look forward to in a few days… and fewer celebrity deaths, too.

The season six premiere of Showtime’s hit series Homeland just released early. Like, 16 days early, to be exact. So if you’re a Showtime subscriber, Homeland‘s sixth season is now available on all Showtime streaming and on-demand platforms. Why release the show more than two weeks ahead of the debut on cable? Right now, my favorite online game is Battlefield 1. No question. Even better, my love for the game has only gotten stronger after all the little kids got the game for Christmas, meaning that my K/D has skyrocketed. But one thing I’ve never quite managed to nail down is flying: whether it’s fighters, bombers, or attack planes. I just can’t seem to do the damage that enemy pilots inflict on me.

So when I was perusing the Battlefield subreddit, I found this gem of a video. It’s from Voodoo x Haze, an Xbox One gamer, who claims to be the #10 player in Europe. He’s just started uploading his own content on YouTube and this video of him going 27-0 throughout the match is mind-blowing not just because he uses the rockets to take out infantry, but because his piloting skills are on a level I’d never be able to compete with.

What I always liked about the fighters was that they were always quick and maneuverable, but unless there was an enemy plane or zeppelin around I wouldn’t be able to kill anyone. Now that I know about these rockets and their usefulness, I’m going to see what I can do out there.
