It Definitely Seems That Drake & Jennifer Lopez Are A Legit Couple

Drake’s Instagram

There have been rumors of a possible romance between Drake and Jennifer Lopez swirling around the internet for weeks now, but I thought that it was all nonsense. I told myself that I wasn’t going to be fooled again like when there was that juicy gossip that Drake was dating Taylor Swift back in October.

But it looks like the Drake and J.Lo rumors might not be your typical tabloid bullshit. Early Wednesday, Drake and J.Lo posted identical photos to Instagram of them engaging in a sweet embrace at virtually the same exact time. You can check out the pics below, which seem to confirm that they are a legit couple.

Instagram Photo

Instagram Photo

That seems pretty damn official to me. Not quite as official as the old “in a relationship” status on Facebook, but having matching Instagram pics is a very serious move. There is a large age gap between the pair, as Drake is 30 and Lopez is 47. But J.Lo has proven time and time again that she is not a mere mortal and the laws of aging don’t apply to her.

If you still need more evidence that Drake and J.Lo are a bona fide couple, it’s been reported that Rihanna recently unfollowed Lopez on Instagram. We can only hope that they resolve this conflict with a mud wrestling match that is live streamed over the internet.

WATCH: Woman Whoops Boyfriend’s Ass After She Catches Him Texting Another Girl

A woman gave her boyfriend the beating of a lifetime after she caught him texting another girl. Staying faithful to your girlfriend has never looked more appealing. Watch this poor shmuck get a thorough ass whoopping.

“Did you motherf*cking think I was CRAAAZZZZYYYY!?!?” I almost died of laughter the way she kept saying crazy. Some tech-savvy person needs to edit her voice into that Gnarls Barkley banger ASAP. But goddamn, that was one ferocious beatdown. I guess that guy learned the hard way not to cheat when you have legs like toothpicks and your girlfriend is built like Booker T.

Although I’m sure he was in a tremendous amount of pain after taking such a whooping, I think his ego might be feeling even worse. Getting beat up by a girl in a room full of other girls, and then having the fight footage uploaded to the internet for millions of people to see is as embarrassing as it gets. What an emasculating trifecta. If I were this guy, I’d join the Peace Corps and be on the next plane to Cambodia.

Katherine Kamenjarin

Southern Illinois University is notorious for being one of the top party schools in the country. Unofficial Halloween and Polar Bear, anyone?! Yet it also boasts superior education programs like science research, for example – a program that initially drew Katherine Kamenjarin to the school.

Although the Miss COED 2017 semifinalist has since switched to English, the love she has for her school remains the same. The 20-year-old now has dreams of becoming a magazine editor and writing her own book. TBH, she’s well on her way because she’s already a published poet. Uhh, she can literally pour her heart out to us any day, amirite fellas?!

Get to know more about Katherine below, and be sure to check back daily as we get to know each of our semifinalists a bit better.

What’s your biggest accomplishment thus far?

My biggest accomplishment thus far would be getting published in a literary magazine for my poetry.

Who do you look up to most and why?

The person I look up to the most would be my mother. She works so hard and has accomplished so much with so little. Without a college degree, she makes over six figures and is everything and more that I hope to be one day.

If you could travel anywhere in the world for Spring Break, where would you go?

If I could go anywhere for spring break, it would easily be Fiji.

Callie Hernandez is an actress that’s well on her way to becoming a household name. There’s not much info on Callie’s background, except that she used to be a cellist. Aside from that interesting fact, I’ve had a hard time finding a traditional bio for her. But who the hell needs a life story when you can settle for a filmography and a gallery of sexy pics?

Callie made her on-screen debut in 2013, playing Space Babe in the extremely entertaining Machete Kills. In 2014, she would make her TV debut as Jessie in two episodes of From Dusk till Dawn: The Series. 2016 would be Callie’s biggest year yet, as she had a lead role as Lisa in the new Blair Witch movie, starred as Samantha in the TV series Graves, and scored a part as Tracy in the critically acclaimed La La Land.

As successful as 2016 has been for Callie, 2017 might be even more prosperous for her. She’s landed roles in the upcoming films Weightless, Under the Silver Lake, and most importantly, Alien: Covenant. The highly anticipated sixth installment in the beloved Alien franchise is set to be released on May 19, 2017, and I’m already chomping at the bit to see Callie in action.

To hold us over until we can watch Callie fight creepy ass aliens in space, let’s take a look at some of her hottest photos.

The Pittsburgh Panthers will take on the Northwestern Wildcats today at 2:00 P.M. in the Pinstripe Bowl, held annually at Yankee Stadium. Now that we’re a week into the Bowl Game season, the college football games are getting increasingly more interesting to watch. In fact, this is only the second bowl game featuring a ranked team (Pittsburgh is ranked at #22) so far–but the Pittsburgh Panthers are favored to win the game by just four points.

The single most important factor of this game is going to be which team’s defense shows up to play, as both Pittsburgh and Northwestern are the worst in their conferences when it comes to passing defense. The good news means that we’re sure to see a lot of touchdowns and scoring. The bad news? Well, there isn’t any, really.

Although the New Era Pinstripe Bowl is just six years old, it’s fast becoming one of the larger non-Big Six bowl games played each year. Part of that is because it’s held in Yankee Stadium, but also because some big-name teams have played in it, including Boston College, Penn State, Notre Dame, and West Virginia (Syracuse doesn’t really count).

New Year’s Day/Eve 2017: Is New Year’s Eve A Federal Holiday?

Is New Year Eve A Holiday

(Getty Images)

Is New Year’s Eve a federal holiday? No. But New Year’s Day is a federal holiday, meaning that you’ll have the day off to rest and recover from the New Year’s Eve festivities.

What defines a federal holiday? Well according to our government a federal holiday is an authorized holiday which has been recognized by the US government in which federal government offices are closed for the day while the employees still receive pay while getting the day off. So while New Year’s Day isn’t going to be necessarily a paid day off, most people have the day off–or at least can cut out a bit early.

What Holidays Are Recognized As Federal Holidays?

There are currently 11 holidays that Congress has designated as being federal holidays.

  • New Year’s Day (January 1).
  • Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. (Third Monday in January).
  • Washington’s Birthday (Third Monday in February).
  • Memorial Day (Last Monday in May).
  • Independence Day (July 4).
  • Labor Day (First Monday in September).
  • Columbus Day (Second Monday in October).
  • Veterans Day (November 11).
  • Thanksgiving Day (Fourth Thursday in November).
  • Christmas Day (December 25).

Congress created federal holidays because Congress can only create  these holidays for federal organizations and institutions in order for their employees to get their days off.

What Makes New Year’s Eve A Federal Holiday?

Celebrating the New Year has been seen throughout all of history even as far back as ancient Mesopotamian times. They definitely didn’t wait in Times Square for a mechanical ball to drop, but I bet that the people back in ancient times were smart enough to know that they could enjoy a few beverages while ringing in the New Year.

Before New Year’s Eve was devoted to a night of celebration and debauchery, it actually had a little bit of religious purposes too. In Christianity you would typically reserve this night for making confessions and then praying for all the things you want or what your gonna do in the New Year or whatever, but since not everybody cares for that stuff, they decided that this night should be a night of partying.  Everybody celebrates this holiday in some way or another but for the most part, there is one thing that everybody seems to do on this day, and that is drink, drink, and drink. Everybody is on the same page in that the end of a year is a perfect time to get wavy.

Another common thing to see amongst New Year’s Eve celebrations include shooting off fireworks and making New Year Resolutions. I’ve tried the whole resolution thing but honestly you end up crapping out of it by the third week of January so yeah I usually have a really healthy three weeks of living. Maybe I just need more discipline. Hope y’all liked this little bit of history and have a happy New Year! And if you’re like me and think you don’t have discipline for a New Year’s resolution just remember discipline come from within.

81-Year-Old Man Cops Plea Bargain After Beating Shuffleboard Rival With Cue

The Smoking Gun

81-year-old Herbert Hayden of Florida recently copped a plea bargain for a shuffleboard-related incident back in September. The feisty senior citizen who lives in a St. Petersburg mobile home takes his shuffleboard VERY seriously. If you don’t believe me, just ask James Sutton. Via The Smoking Gun, here’s how everything went down at the Pinellas Park Senior Center’s open-air shuffleboard pavilion on that fateful fall afternoon.

Hayden and victim James Sutton “had a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation,” police reported. After the 6’, 200-pound Hayden slugged Sutton, he “hit him with his shuffleboard cue causing damage to both cues.” Sutton suffered a pair of four-inch scratches on his face during the scuffle.

A no contact order bars Hayden from coming within 500 feet of Sutton’s residence or vehicle. Hayden is also barred from calling or texting Sutton. The order also prohibits any contact via Facebook or Twitter, though the elderly Hayden does not appear to have any social media accounts.

After pleading no contest to the misdemeanor battery charge, Hayden was ordered to pay roughly $800 in fines, fees, service charges, and court costs. While that clearly isn’t chump change, that investment will pay off big time in the long run because the intimation factor Hayden will hold over opponents is immeasurable.

The fear of taking a shuffleboard cue to the domepiece is going to serve as a huge competitive advantage for Hayden. People are going to be so petrified of his crazy ass that they will be way off their game. He’s pretty much the Bill Laimbeer of senior citizen shuffleboard. Bad boy for life.

Best Memes of 2016

2016 is coming to an end (finally!!!) and while most will look back on these 12 months as the worst in recent memory, if there’s any group that will look back on this year fondly, it’s the internet.

Maybe it was the surreal nature of reality in 2016, but it seemed as though this year more than ever, memes became a part of popular culture. Lebron James wore a ‘Sipping Tea Kermit’ hat after the Warriors blew a 3-1 lead winning the NBA Finals. The Vice President of the free world became a meme. Those ‘Damn Daniel’ kids were on The Ellen Show. Harambe received votes for President of the United States.

Point is, whether it was the bizarre events of 2016 or internet culture becoming more influential than ever, for all the shit that came out of 2016, it was also the year of the meme.

So with that, check out the most relatable, most bizarre, and most important memes of 2016.

Does The United States Deliver Mail On New Year’s Day?

Is mail delivered on New Years day

(Getty Images)

Does mail get delivered on New Year’s Day? Unfortunately, this year mail does not get delivered on New Year’s Day. Your mail also won’t be delivered on January 2, because that’s when post offices will be observing New Year’s Day. Post offices are going to be closed because, like the rest of us, mailmen love to party and will be needing to recover from their hangover. Trust me, I know because I smoked a lot of pot with my mailman in college (shout out to the homeboy Steve) and he would tell me all sorts of ways that he and his mailman buddies would get buck wild, which usually involved whiskey.

So, you need something shipped? Well, you’re out of luck because no other carriers will be open on New Year’s Day. Here’s a list of the mail carriers including their holiday schedules so you can ship your stuff before New Year’s Day.

Some additional holidays on which mail is not delivered include:

  • Christmas (December 25)
  • Labor Day (First Monday in September)
  • Independence Day (July 4)
  • President’s Day (The third Monday in February)
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Third Monday in January)
  • Columbus Day (Second Monday in October)
  • Memorial Day (Last Monday in May)

Post offices will be open during regular hours on New Year’s Eve but don’t expect your package to be delivered at least until the third of January. Remember mailmen are people too, so be sure to give your mailman a high five, at the very least. They would definitely appreciate that.

Alabama Football: Top 5 Best Crimson Tide Quarterbacks Of All Time Ranked

Alabama Football Quarterbacks

Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images

The University of Alabama is not short on football history. Anyone who has followed the college game is aware of this, particularly in the last ten or so years. While plenty of players have gone on to have wonderful NFL careers, the one position consistently agreed to be the most important in sports hasn’t been a historical calling-card for the Crimson Tide. Successful quarterbacks have played for Alabama, but not one has taken home a Heisman Trophy, despite voters typically choosing finalists that play on teams with the best records (you might already know this, but Alabama has won a lot through the years). For that reason, we rank the top five quarterbacks to play for the Tide. Defense is their blueprint, but the signal callers have still been important to the program’s history.

5. Greg McElroy (2006-10)

Born: Los Angeles, California
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 225 lbs.

Greg McElroy Crimson Tide Football

While old timers might not agree with this one, it’s important to consider the victories that McElroy helped orchestrate. After redshirting his freshman year and sitting behind John Parker Wilson in 2007 and 2008, McElroy led the Tide to a National Title in 2009 over Texas. While several remember Longhorn quarterback Colt McCoy suffering a shoulder injury early in that ballgame and consequently gifting the game to McElroy, the first-time starter provided exceptional leadership up to that point. A dramatic Iron Bowl victory was rooted on the heels of the man under center along with the upset of Tim Tebow and Florida the next week in the SEC Championship Game, leading to McElroy receiving the MVP award.

During the following season, he would set a single-season passing record in program history and throw 116 pass attempts without an interception. While not a highly touted an NFL prospect, he was taken in the seventh round by the New York Jets in 2011.

4. Pat Trammell (1958-61)

Pat Trammell Crimson Tide Football

Born: Scottsboro, Alabama
Height: 6’0′
Weight: 200 lbs.

Trammell was the first quarterback under legendary head coach Bear Bryant and he was a star. Trammell still holds two impressive school records with the lowest single-season interception percentage and career interception percentage. Not turning the ball over was key in leading Bama to a National Championship in 1961, a season in which the Tide finished undefeated and Trammell was awarded SEC Player of the Year.

While that season was the pinnacle of his college career, Trammell’s first season under center was 1959 as a sophomore when he led the team in total offense. In 1960, he led the team in scoring and was chosen as team captain prior to the following perfect season. Needless to say, things only got better with time, and despite having the interest from Green Bay Packer head coach Vince Lombardi, Trammell elected not to pursue the NFL due to his academic success. He would go on to medical school after finishing his undergrad and would graduate summa cum laude.

3. Ken Stabler (1964-67)

Born: Foley, Alabama
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 215 lbs.

Ken Stabler Crimson Tide Football

Regions Charity Classic at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Ross Bridge in Hoover, Alabama on May 18, 2007.

Stabler passed away early in 2015 and while predominately known for leading the Oakland Raiders to glory and fully embracing the persona of the organization, Stabler was a decorated Crimson Tide quarterback.

While he couldn’t play in 1964 because rules prohibited freshmen from playing at the time, Stabler’s delay was continued due to the presence of Joe Namath and Steve Sloan. In his first season taking over quarterback duties, “The Snake” helped the team to an 11-0 record and a landslide Sugar Bowl victory over Nebraska. His senior season ended with him getting kicked off the team for cutting class, but it did include a famous Iron Bowl victory tabbed as, “The Run in the Mud.” The play consisted of Stabler dashing through a soggy field for a 53-yard score that was the difference in the game. After his coaching career, Bryant would call it one of his favorite plays.

The Snake would play for the Raiders from 1970-79 winning Super Bowl XI and appear in four Pro Bowls. He would briefly call Alabama football games on the radio, starting in the early 2000s and ending in 2008.

2. AJ McCarron (2009-13)

Born: Mobile, Alabama
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 220 lbs.

AJ McCarron Crimson Tide Football

Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images

Three National Championships in 2009, 2011, and 2012 practically tell the whole story of AJ McCarron. While he did backup McElroy in the 2009 title run, he provided an exceptional grasp of Nick Saban’s offense that required several play-action passes deep down the field. Despite riding Trent Richardson for much of the 2011 campaign, McCarron took home MVP honors in the National Championship against LSU, completing 23 of 34 passes for 234 yards with zero interceptions in a historical defensive game.

He continued to take care of the ball and broke an SEC record for the most pass attempts without an interception (291) until losing it in 2012. In that season he would set the school record for single-season touchdown passes (30) and then break McElroy’s school passing yard record while leading the country in passing efficiency. He was nearly flawless in the National Championship against Notre Dame tossing four touchdowns.

McCarron would be drafted in the fifth round by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2014 and prove to be a capable NFL backup by taking over for an injured Andy Dalton midway through the 2015 season.

Despite having great success on the field, to some McCarron is known best for marrying a former Miss Alabama winner who attended the University of Auburn.

1. Joe Namath (1961-64)

Born: Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 200 lbs.

Joe Namath Crimson Tide Football

“Broadway Joe” of course gets his nickname from quarterbacking the New York Jets and winning Super Bowl III en route to his Hall of Fame NFL career. But long before that, Namath was successful in winning games in Tuscaloosa.

He began his college career by sporting a 9-1 record in 1962 and beating Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. In 1963, the Tide rolled to an 8-2 record but Namath was suspended during the last two games of the season and did not play against Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl. The next year, Alabama won the National Championship and despite a nagging injury that would become commonplace throughout his NFL career, he received all-SEC and all-American honors for that season.

Being the hottest draft candidate in both the NFL and AFL, Namath would choose the AFL Jets and receive the largest contract in history at the time. While his career was famous for playing football, he was also well known for starring in Hollywood films and staying out late in Manhattan with the likes of the Yankees’ Mickey Mantle.

All-in-all, Namath is the most successful man to play quarterback for Alabama and translate that success over to professional football. His charming personality and loveable antics off the field make him a household name for even the casual Crimson Tide fan.

Winter Storm Fortis 2016: Forecast, Map & Path of Weather Bomb

Winter Storm Fortis

Winter Storm Fortis is going to hit New England during the last days of 2016, and it will bring up to a foot of snow or rain to New England, the Great Lakes, and even parts of New York state. Winter Storm Fortis is rapidly developing because of a new catchphrase “bombogenesis,” that I think we can all agree is more fun to say than “Polar Vortex.” But despite what you might think from a name like “bombogenesis” (or as it’s described, sometimes as a “weather bomb”), the effects aren’t catastrophic–they just come a little bit faster.

Winter Storm Fortis is expected to hit sometime on Thursday night, carry on into Friday, and then be on its merry way by the weekend, leaving only the snow and people thanking their lucky stars a “weather bomb” didn’t kill them.

Winter Storm Fortis Forecast

Winter Storm Fortis Forecast

Winter Storm Fortis is developing quickly in the Northeast and the areas around New England can expect the storm Thursday night into Friday.

Thursday Forecast

Because the storm is developing southeast of the Northeast. West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New York can expect some snow on Thursday. That being said, the closer you are to the ocean, the less likely the chances that you’ll see snow, because of the warmer ocean weather.

The areas around Boston can expect to see a lot of cold rain.

Thursday Night Forecast

The temperatures around New England will start getting much colder, meaning that Boston will likely start to see snow. Drivers should exhibit extreme caution since the rain may freeze quickly because of the bombogenesis. As the night wears on, the snow will decrease.

What is Bombogenesis?

From Weather.com:

Bombogenesis follows from cyclogenesis, which refers to the development of a cyclone which, in turn, is usually synonymous with a low-pressure system, or low.

Bombs are so-named because of the rapidity with which they develop, which evokes explosiveness, and the power that they usually attain once they have gone through the intensification phase specified in the definition — a central pressure drop of at least 24 millibars, or 24 mbars, in 24 hours.

Some of her most notable movies roles were as Alice in Cowboys & Aliens (2011), Katie in This Means War (2012), Brenda Hesson in Chasing Mavericks (2012), Lisa Wyrick in The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia (2013), Quinn Altman in This Is Where I Leave You (2014), and Agent Paisley in The Forger (2014).

The NBC science fiction drama series made its debut on October 3, 2016, and the show has been drawing rave reviews and making lots of fans in its first season. Timeless currently holds an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and the pilot episode had 7.6 million viewers.

Brit would make her television debut in 2011, taking on the role of Paige in the 2011 “Early 21st Century Romanticism” episode of Community.

2011 would end up being a huge year for Brit, as she co-produced, co-wrote, and starred in the films Another Earth and Sound of My Voice. Brit pulled triple duty again in 2013, co-producing, co-writing, and starring as Sarah Moss/Jane Owen in The East.

But up to this point in her career, Brit is most definitely best known for her work on The OA. Not only did she play the lead role of Prairie Johnson/The OA in the mystery drama series on Netflix, she was also a co-executive producer, co-creator, and co-writer. The OA hit Netflix on December 16, 2016 and it immediately blew minds everywhere, as it currently boasts a 70% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meghan Kluth: 22 Hottest Photos of WGNO Reporter

Meghan Kluth

The city of New Orleans is packed with secrets and hidden gems, but WGNO reporter Meghan Kluth is not one of them. This blonde beauty has been reporting for WGNO (appropriately called “News With A Twist”) for a few years now, but has also done some work for the MLB and even the NHL. Meghan just celebrated her birthday, which is why she’s on our radar, and we’re hoping that as a gift she’ll get some more national exposure, not because we want to steal her away from NOLA but because we think the rest of the nation could use her energy.

Kluth is a graduate of Boston University’s College of Communications, where she got a taste of sports reporting when she worked as a PA for Terrier Nation, the school’s only sports radio show. But clearly she is not a reporter who’s just meant to be a production assistant for a college radio station.

An argument broke out at the Russell Athletic Bowl between a West Virginia fan and a Miami fan over cutting bathroom lines. This is a very serious offense at sporting events, so unsurprisingly, the verbal disagreement lead to violence. Elevating this incident from your average college football scrap was the fact that the West Virginia fan only had one leg. Watch how the bizarre episode played out at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.

Is it a bush league move to punch a one-legged man in the face and run away? Absolutely. But is it an effective fight strategy? Apparently so. I guess we finally know how a one-legged man would do in an ass kicking contest.

Even though the West Virginia fan took a punch to the face, I still think he won the battle with his insane trash talk. Threatening to urinate on another man and (I sincerely hope) quoting Road House is as good as it gets. Bruises on your cheek will fade over time, but vicious burns like that will live in a man’s psyche for eternity.

The most exciting moment during the Russell Athletic Bowl between WVU and Miami didn’t happen on the field, or even on the sideline–it happened in the bathroom of Camping World Stadium. According to this video from TMZ, a one-legged West Virginia fan became pretty pissed off after accusing a Miami fan of trying to just skip the whole line. But rather than just be done with it, the irate Mountaineer fan turned around to face the Hurricane and threatened to pee on him, even going so far as to reach down to his crotch.

That’s when the short Miami fan had enough and socked the WVU fan. But the punch must not have had the intended effect because the Hurricane fan took off immediately after he threw his pillow.

But the best part about it all isn’t that the WVU fan ate the punch up, it’s that he ran after the shorty yelling “I used to f*** guys like you in prison.” He didn’t say “I used to f*** up guys like you in prison,” he left it at “I used to f*** guys like you in prison.” I think if I’m in a fight with someone and they reference that not only were they in jail but that they regularly sodomized people of my stature in jail, that I’d run as fast as I could the other way, too.

More Awful News In 2016: Inventor Of Red Solo Cup Passed Away

Donnellan Funeral

2016 keeps kicking our asses, as it was reported today that the inventor of the legendary red Solo cup passed away. 84-year-old Robert Leo Hulseman died peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, and I owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude for all of the good times he has provided me over the years. His cups were mandatory at every high school and college party that I ever attended, and I have nothing but fond memories of slamming cold brews in those iconic drinking vessels.

Via People, here’s some history on how Hulseman revolutionized boozing.

Hulseman started working at Solo Cup Company when he was just 18. The company’s cone-shaped paper cups debuted in the 1940s, and continued providing all manner of disposable tableware through the 1950s and ’60s, until the 1970s, when Hulseman was credited with inventing the project that changed drinking culture forever.

“The history is a little sketchy,” Kim Healy, VP of consumer business for Solo, told Slate in 2011. “We know we were one of the first to introduce a party cup.”

But something about Solo’s offering — its initially simple design, eye-grabbing color, and functional interior fill lines (rings at the bottom of the cup denote 1.5 ounces, 5 ounces and 12 ounces, for liquor, wine and beer, respectively — allowed it to rise to the top of the market, and the vessel quickly became a staple of drinking culture, particularly in colleges across America.

The company implemented design changes to the original shape over the years — indented grips and a square bottom to make it more stable when used in party games — keeping its party-first reputation in mind.

The rings on the Solo cup never get the credit they deserve. That was a genius idea and it’s a goddamn shame that a lot of people don’t even know what they mean.

Tonight, I’m going to pay tribute to Hulseman the best way that I know how. I’m going to get rip-roaring drunk, dominate beer pong and flip cup, and listen to this Toby Keith classic on a continuous loop. Rest in peace, my party-starting friend.

Former Drake Basketball Coach Suing University, Claims She Was Fired Because She Is Gay

Courtney Graham Drake University

Courtney Graham was the assistant coach for the Drake University women’s basketball team until she claims that she was forced to resign because the head coach Jennie Baranczyk learned that she was gay. Now Graham is suing Drake University, alleging that she was forced to quit after weeks of duress, claiming that the school violated Iowa’s anti-discrimination law.

According to the lawsuit, things are pretty cut and dry. The suit states that Graham’s sexuality become public knowledge when she brought her girlfriend to a home game in November 2014. From that time on, the suit states, things were very different between Graham and Coach Baranczyk. In addition to forcing Graham to take a month off from work because “she wasn’t acting like herself,” some other things that happened to Graham.

The lawsuit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Des Moines claims that Baranczyk sent Graham home multiple times without explanation, excluded her from team meetings and scouting trips, and stripped her of job duties until the only remaining tasks she had were similar to those of an intern. Baranczyk also shared information with other Drake employees and “gossiped” about medication and therapy Graham received for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, according to the lawsuit. The brain disorder can cause inattentiveness and impulsive behavior [source].

The lawsuit states that Baranczyk asked Graham to resign in May 2015, at the end of the school year after Graham brought her girlfriend to a game. Baranczyk continued to text, email, and pressure Graham to resign until Graham finally capitulated and sent a letter of resignation on June 5, 2015.

I’m not saying that Graham doesn’t have a case here, but this smells pretty fishy from a distance. Unfortunately, there is still discrimination of all types in the world, but you’d think that anti-gay discrimination in women’s sports would be nearly extinct at this point in time. It’s a well-known fact that there are a large number of gay female athletes in college and professional athletics, especially in basketball, so the fact that a school or even a coach would fire someone because they’re gay seems crazy to me.

Again, I’m not saying that this is a lawsuit without merit, but according to Drake University’s official response, Graham tried to file a complaint earlier with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission about the same issue. That complaint was dismissed quickly because there was not a “reasonable possibility that further investigation would reveal discrimination occurred.”

We’ll keep up with this story as it develops.

“It is with regret that we as a family announce that at 6:47 a.m. Keion Eric Carpenter was pronounced dead at Jackson South Community Hospital in Miami, Fla.”

Carpenter was only 39 years old and had been working with non-profit organizations for over a decade. Our thoughts are with Carpenter’s friends and family.

Carpenter was on vacation with his family and was playing with his children when he slipped and fell on his head on Wednesday. He fell into a coma and was hospitalized. Less than 24 hours after his accident, he was pronounced dead. Jamila Smith, a cousin of Carpenter’s, told the Baltimore Sun that “They were running to the car when [Carpenter] slipped, fell, hit his head and slipped into a coma. It was just a freak accident,” she said. “He was always healthy; he went to the doctor, ate well and worked out.”
