WATCH: ESPN Released A Trailer For Its Upcoming 30 For 30 ‘This Was The XFL’ And It Looks Bananas

$

ESPN has released a trailer for their upcoming XFL 30 for 30 documentary, This Was The XFL, and it should be fantastic.

For those who don’t remember or have tried to forget, the XFL was a joint collaboration by WWE mogul Vince McMahon and NBC Sports president Dick Ebersol to try to create an alternative to the NFL. Needless to say, it didn’t work. The league was put to sleep after just one season in 2001.

As you can hear Dan Patrick say in the trailer, “The XFL was accused of selling out the dark side of gratuitous violence, tawdry titillation, lousy football and scripted low-life violence.” Unsurprisingly, it was one of the biggest flops in television history.

However, certain innovations in how football games were produced for television- like the skycam, for instance- were later adapted by the NFL and remain a part of the football-watching experience to this day.

This was the XFL reportedly includes interviews with all the principles of the XFL, including both McMahon and Ebersol.

The documentary will premiere on February 2nd, which is during Super Bowl week.

Lamar Odom’s divorce from Khloe Kardashian will be official on Saturday, and today Odom checked himself back into rehab. The former NBA star has continued to struggle with addiction after a near-fatal overdose at a Las Vegas brothel in October 2015.

Via E! News, who broke the story:

E! News can confirm the former Los Angeles Lakers player recently admitted himself into rehab in San Diego, Calif.

“It was his own decision. He wanted to work on his mental and physical health for the next chapter of his life,” a source shared with E! News. “He has not fallen off the wagon, but he understands the importance of maintaining his sobriety.”

According to TMZ, Odom has been at the facility for four days and plans to stay there for an extended period.

Odom’s life has been filled with a heartbreaking amount of tragedy. While growing up in a rough neighborhood in Queens, when he lost his mother to cancer when he was 12 years old. She had raised him mostly on her own, and his father struggled with heroin addiction. Then in 2006, his six and a half month son Jayden died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

Despite his many hardships, Odom is revered as one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. Here at COED, we’re hopeful this positive step will help Odom get his life back in order.

Kate Bock: Hottest Photos Of The ‘Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’ Model

Kate Bock is a model from Vancouver, Canada, who I’m sure you’ve come across plenty of times while browsing the World Wide Web. Passionate fans of The Lonely Island might recognize Kate as one of the ladies that was hanging out in the club in their classic music video for “Jack Sparrow.”

Kate’s worked for some of the biggest names in the fashion industry, dropping jaws in advertisements for brands like Guess, Perry Ellis, and Brooks Brothers. She’s also graced the pages of roughly a million different magazines, including Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Elle, Maxim, Vogue, Galore, and GQ.

Kate was such a home run for SI that she was named 2013’s “Rookie of the Year.” She’s since appeared in the 2014, 2015, and 2016 editions, delighting readers all over the globe. And just for the record, I’m fairly confident that the video that accompanied her photo shoot for Maxim was so sizzling that it single-handedly caused global warming.

As far as Kate’s personal life goes, she is currently dating Kevin Love of the Cleveland Cavaliers. I’m insanely jealous of Love’s good fortune, but any couple that dresses as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne for Halloween gets my blessing.

Now that you know a little bit about Kate, let’s take a look at some of her hottest photos. You’ll quickly realize why she’s Canada’s greatest export since poutine.

Pretty bizarre video out of Detroit. A video posted to YouTube by user Rene deLambert shows a woman being forcibly dragged off of a Delta flight at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after she allegedly did not comply with proper boarding procedures. Whether or not the woman was in the wrong, the result produced some disturbing footage.

Via CBS:

According to Erica Donerson, Media Relations Manager for Delta Air Lines, the woman involved was taken into custody following the incident Monday.

“At approximately 8 this morning, Delta Air Lines contacted Detroit Metropolitan Airport’s police department requesting assistance with a passenger who would not comply with boarding and baggage check procedures at a McNamara Terminal gate,” Donerson said, in a statement sent by email to WWJ Newsradio 950.

“When officers arrived, Delta Air Lines stated the woman could not remain on board. Despite repeated requests by officers, the woman refused to leave the aircraft and had to be removed. She was arrested and charges are pending.”

In reports posted on Airlive.net, a witness described the woman in the video as “mouthy” with “a huge attitude,” adding that she was tackled and brought to the ground by police after she “blew by the gate agent without checking in.”

Per Delta spokesman Anthony Black:

“Delta flight 2083 DTW to SAN incurred a slight departure delay due to a passenger not complying with boarding and baggage check procedures. The passenger was removed by local law enforcement and the flight was able to continue. Addition questions should be directed to airport law enforcement.”

According to CBS, it is unclear if the woman was injured, and no details were immediately provided about how exactly or why the woman did not comply.

73-Year-Old Man With Dementia Shot 9 Times By California Police

Fransisco Serna, an unarmed 73-year-old man in the initial stages of dementia, was shot and killed early Monday morning by a Bakersfield, California police, authorities said. According to reports from the LA Times, police responded at about 12:30 A.M. to a report of a man brandishing a handgun in the 7900 block of Silver Birch Avenue, a neighborhood in the southwest corner of the city.

Via LA Times:

When police arrived, a witness pointed to a man in the driveway of a residence. An officer fired several rounds at the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Bakersfield police Sgt. Gary Carruesco said.

The Kern County coroner’s office identified the man as Francisco Serna. A retired father of five children, Serna lived on the block where the shooting occurred, his son, Rogelio Serna, told The Times.

Police said the call was prompted by a report of a man with a firearm, but investigators canvassed the area after the shooting and did not recover a gun, Carruesco said. Police searched the family’s home and cars and did not recover a firearm, Rogelio Serna said.

It’s unclear why Serna was outside or why the officer opened fire.

Seems like another case of a police officer being far too trigger happy. The officer’s name has not yet been released. Similarly, the officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave while the incident is being reviewed.

According to Fransisco’s son, Rogelio Serna, his father was showing the early signs of dementia and occasionally experienced delusions. The elder Serna also had difficulty sleeping and frequently went on late-night walks to help himself sleep.

“My dad did not own a gun. He was a 73-year-old retired grandpa, just living life,” Rogelio Serna said. “He should have been surrounded by family at old age, not surrounded by bullets.”

Brilliant Human Kills Friend After Drunkenly Playing With Gun On Facebook Live

Steven Leannais, 30, is accused of accidentally shooting his friend during a dinner party that was being streamed live on Facebook. Leannais was charged with manslaughter over the fatal shooting of his friend, Anthony Stanford II, 27, at his home in Cleveland, Ohio last Thursday.

Leannais was hosting Stanford and two other friends for dinner in his apartment when the shooting took place around 10:00 P.M.

Via Cleveland.com:

The events in the video match the descriptions of what police wrote in their report of the incident. Christman said he watched the video and could use it as part of the case.

One of the other partygoers went into Leannais’ bedroom and grabbed his handgun. The video shows a man waving a gun around. He asks if the video is recording and says: “We’re going to walk up to this guy and say ‘we’re going to cap this guy’s ass.'”

Someone tells the man the gun is loaded and a woman says “Don’t point that at me.” The man points the gun at his face and Leannais grabs the gun and takes out the magazine and gives it back, the video shows.

Leannais grabbed the gun from his friend and told him it was still loaded, police reports say. “There you go,” Leannais says in the video. “Now it’s not loaded.”

Once the video ended, Leannais picked up the gun, lowered it to his side, and pulled the trigger, unaware that a bullet was in the chamber, according to police reports. The bullet hit Stanford in the upper abdomen, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner.

Stanford was a maintenance worker in the building and repaired homes on the side, said Stanford’s mother. He graduated from John Marshall High School and was a boxer when he was younger. He still practiced boxing to train his younger brothers.

As for Leannais, he made his first court appearance Monday following the shooting. Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Suzan Sweeney set his bond at $10,000. He is charged with third-degree felony involuntary manslaughter.

Leannais’ attorney Leif Christman said that his client is “extremely sorry for what happened and extends his condolences to Anthony’s mother, Mrs. (Trina) Ford,” and that “If there was any to trade places, he’d gladly do it.”

WATCH: Luke Walton Gets Ejected From First Game As NBA Coach

luke-walton-ejection

I am a Knicks fan, which means that it’s my job to do three things: hate the Lakers, hate the Celtics, and complain about the Knicks. Right now, though, I’m finding it very hard to hate the Lakers. They’re just so damn likable. I love the fire that Julius Randle plays with, Swaggy P has his swagger back, Metta World Peace is back on the team, and they yell “I love basketball” coming out of huddles. But probably the biggest upswing in their likeability is their head coach Luke Walton, the guy I wanted no part of in New York City.

Truthfully I don’t think that Luke Walton in New York would have been a good fit (Hornacek was the best option by far), but it’s clear that he’s working out in LA for the Lakers. The guy can gel with the young players, they love his enthusiasm, and he’s apparently a good coach.

You know what young players want? They want a guy who’s been there before. They want a guy who would go to war with them. And that’s exactly what Luke Walton did last night against the Sacramento Kings, in the fifth minute of the game. But first, a little context.

If you follow the NBA, you know that Boogie Cousins is, well, Boogie. He likes to start stuff. At the same time, Julius Randle isn’t the kind of person to back down. In fact, the two forwards have gone at it multiple times before. So what does Cousins do to strike first? This.

And Randle got called for a technical foul. Which is absurd. Ridiculous. Flabbergasting, really. So Luke Walton got pissed off and tried to have a word with the refs. But that wasn’t happening. Instead, he got a technical foul. And then another technical foul. And was ejected from the game.

What I love about this the most is that Luke seems like he’s still a player. He’s out there cussing at the refs well after he’s been ejected and asked to leave. He’s calling out Demarcus Cousins. And the best part is that he took his blazer off like it was a jersey, like he was about to throw it into the crowd, just pissed off.

That’s the kind of coach that players want.

Apocalypse Now: Kanye Is Meeting With President-Elect Trump At Trump Tower

Well, everyone, we’ve made it: We’re officially living in the twilight zone, as Kanye West (fresh out of the looney bin, mind you) is currently meeting with PRESIDENT-ELECT Donald Trump. At this time, it is unclear what exactly the two are going to be discussing during their meeting. My personal opinion is that meeting with a controversial, narcissistic, paranoid rapper is the best use of the President-elect’s time, but hey, what do I know? Maybe Kanye has an exit strategy for Syria. Or maybe they’re creating a new department of government that focuses on mental health and Trump is appointing Kanye as the chair.

Via Business Insider:

West, accompanied by his entourage, including a videographer, walked into the lobby shortly after 9:00 A.M. ET.

Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks confirmed to Business Insider that West was meeting with Trump. The pair later descended down to Trump Tower’s lobby for a photo op.

“We’ve been friends for a long time,” Trump said, adding that they discussed “life.”

LOVE Magazine continues to make the holiday season much, much sexier with their latest Advent Calendar video. For day 13, we have Sara Sampaio shaking her hips next to some giant ass balloons. The legendary Hype Williams directed the video, and he’s been a very welcome presence in this year’s Advent Calendar. He’s previously shot Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski, and Doutzen Kroes’ videos for the series.

Without further ado, here’s the 25-year-old Portuguese model in action.

I don’t know what the hell that outfit was that Sara was wearing, but I do know that I’m a huge fan of it. Gaps on gaps on gaps. I wish the video was a little bit longer and that Sara did some more dancing, but I guess beggars can’t be choosers.

Plus, I can’t really criticize the man who blessed the world with the music videos for “Woo Hah!! Got You All in Check,” “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” “Gettin’ Jiggy wit It,” “No Scrubs,” “California Love,” “Mo Money Mo Problems,” “All of the Lights,” and about a million other classics. Hype gets a lifetime pass from me.

Colorado Made An Obscene Amount Of Money From Selling Weed This Year

Colorado Marijuana Revenue 1 Billion

The state of Colorado has been on the forefront of the legalization of marijuana for years, and now the government is reaping the benefits of what they have sown. For the first time in American history, a state has surpassed $1 billion dollars in revenue from the sale of medical and recreational marijuana. The Colorado Board of Revenue claims that $1,092,159,291 of pot was sold in their state ($720,731,127 for recreational, $371,428,164 for medical).

And you know what gets their state government so excited? It’s that the taxes from that revenue are equal to almost $50 million. Per Colorado law, the first $40 million made from the taxation of marijuana goes towards school construction projects, and the money made afterward goes towards the state’s public school fund.

Sadly, the cost of building a single school can exceed $40 million per school, but the upside is that this is supposedly “free” money coming into the state that would have been lost. There’s still government money being spent on schools that doesn’t come from the taxation of marijuana.

For the budget year of 2016-2017, the state plans on spending $6.3 billion on public schools.

Man Missed Out On $100K Parlay After The Patriots Didn’t Cover By A Single Point

Some poor soul suffered a bad beat that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy in Week 14 of the NFL season. He placed a $5 bet on a 15-leg parlay card at a William Hill sports book in Nevada and was astoundingly 14-for-14 heading into Monday Night Football. All he needed was for the New England Patriots to beat the Baltimore Ravens by more than seven points and he would be $100,000 richer.

But as we all know, he came up brutally short. Via ESPN:

Because the Patriots beat the Baltimore Ravens by exactly seven, 30-23, the result of the 15th game of the parlay, after the previous 14 had come through, was a push.

William Hill spokesman Michael Grodsky confirmed to ESPN that it was an all-or-nothing parlay card. As such, the push didn’t reduce it to winning a 14-leg parlay; it made the entire card worthless.

What a f*cking gut punch. I would be totally inconsolable if this happened to me. And not just for a few days or a couple of weeks, I’m talking about a lifetime of being down in the dumps. For the rest of my days, I’d just wander the streets of Las Vegas questioning how it could all go so horribly wrong. I’d pretty much be Ron Burgundy after he got fired until I was granted the sweet relief of death.

Watch this homemade video, in which the Fire Kills Campaign addresses the devastation of what malfunctioning Christmas lights can really do to a victim’s home. It’s pretty scary stuff.

Not even 40 seconds in and the fire fully engulfs the room.

Wow, this footage really hits home. This taping is meant to terrify you and it does just that. The fire rushing throughout the room as “Silent Night” illuminates your ears is actually quite chilling.

Listen, I know I’m no fire marshall, but here are a few precautions you can take so you don’t wind up with a sequel to this video:

  • If your tree is real, make sure you water it daily.
  • When you go to bed, shut your tree OFF.
  • When you leave the house, even for a minute, shut your tree OFF.
  • Make sure you don’t overlap the light wires.
  • Give your tree a break by having a timer set for increments of 40 minutes.

Emily Carlson

What do you get when you combine sharks, Top Gun, and wrestling? A freakin’ awesome Miss COED 2017 contestant, that’s who. The 20-year-old sophomore at the University of Texas at Arlington is studying Nursing and Spanish and apparently is a BAMF on the side. That’s not to say she doesn’t have a softer side, though too. Emily recently joined Love Your Melon, an organization on campus that raises money and beanies for children with cancer. COULD SHE BE ANY MORE PERFECT?!

Get to know more about her below, and be sure to check back daily as we get to know each of our Miss COED 2017 contestants a bit better.

If you could travel anywhere in the world for Spring Break, where would you go?

I would go to the Bahamas because I really want to swim with stingrays, sharks, and dolphins! I think it would be beautiful!!

Who do you look up to the most and why?

I look up to my mom and my stepdad the most. My mom is such a strong and loving woman. No matter how many times I mess up, she is always there for me. My stepdad raised me. He took me in even though I wasn’t his, and that means more to me than he could ever know. I am so lucky to have both of them as parents.

Name one thing on your bucket list.

To be Maverick from “Top Gun.”

Give your BFF a shoutout! What’s his or her name and how long have you been besties?

My best friend’s name is Lane Bogy (@lanebogy). We have been friends since freshman year of high school, so six years. He has been there through everything, and I love him for that!

Do you have any secret talents?

I sing and I wrestle. I know [they are] two very different talents, but I love both and I enjoy doing both.

When she’s not swimming with dangerous fish and beating people up, Emily is saving the world. (Be still my heart).

What exactly is Love Your Melon, and how did you first get involved?

Love Your Melon is an organization that donates half of its proceeds to pediatric cancer research, and I got involved because my friend asked me to go to a meeting one day. I had nothing to do, so I said yes and I fell love with the cause!

What compelled you to help with this organization as opposed to another cause?

I’m not big for organizations on campus, but this was a brand new one and I kind of wanted to get started at the very beginning of one. I love the fact that they give half of its proceeds to pediatric cancer research because I have a baby girl that goes to my church who was actually diagnosed with cancer about six months ago; it’s very close to my heart.

How often do you volunteer?

We have meetings every week, and right now since it’s the beginning of the organization, we have just been promoting.

What do your tasks include when you volunteer?

So far, they include taking a ton of pictures and posting them on social media and getting to know all of the crew members.

How can people get involved?

If you want to get involved, you should find your crew or even start one on the Love Your Melon  website.  You can create a crew or you can just sign up with one by giving them your email and your phone number; it’s pretty simple.

Tell me anything else you’d like our readers to know about LYM!

One thing I really love about Love Your Melon is that we actually get to hand deliver beanies to kids in hospitals. We have the opportunity to put a smile on their face, which I am looking forward to so much. We’re looking to get our numbers up, so if anyone wants to buy something, make sure you check out with UTA and that will help us in our crew.  Also, Love Your Melon was started by college students as a business project, so that’s really cool to think that someone my age started this a couple years ago and now it’s big.

To get involved with your local Love Your Melon crew, head to loveyourmelon.com.

Golden Globe 2017 Predictions

Golden Globes

It’s award show season, bitches! If there’s one thing you should about me it’s that I’m a HUGE award show guy, though just for movies. Don’t really care about the Grammys and the Emmys are just whatever. But when it comes to the Oscars, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards, sign me the hell up. Anyways, the nominations for the 74th Golden Globes were announced on Monday, and just like the rest of America, I will be predicting the winners. I’m only going to take a dive into the major motion picture categories because I really don’t give a shit about any of the television categories to be totally honest. Now I’ll say this, the Golden Globes are nice and all, but they don’t nearly strike my interest as much as the Oscars do. I LOVE the Oscars. Regardless, I’m still going to watch because I’m an award show guy. You’ve heard it here first, but your 2017 Golden Globe winners will be:

Best Motion Picture – Drama

Getty Images

Getty Images

Hacksaw Ridge
Hell or High Water
Lion
Manchester by the Sea
Moonlight (Winner)

I think Moonlight takes the prize here. Besides being an excellent movie, with all the criticism of Hollywood lacking diversity over the past few years, I think that the Hollywood Foreign Press will want to put an end to that by awarding the movie, which has a predominantly African American cast. I can also see Manchester by the Sea taking the award because that truly was one of the best movies I’ve seen in quite some time, and has been recognized as one of the best movies of the year.

Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

Getty Images

Getty Images

20th Century Women
Deadpool
Florence Foster Jenkins
La La Land (Winner)
Sing Street

As much as I loved Deadpool and as awesome as it was, this might be the only sure thing of the award show. La La Land did some damage at the Critics Choice Awards, and have been receiving countless awards left and right. I think it has to be the frontrunner for Best Picture at the Oscars, and I really can’t see any other movie winning this category.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama

Getty Images

Getty Images

Casey Affleck – Manchester by the Sea (Winner)
Joel Edgerton – Loving
Andrew Garfield – Hacksaw Ridge
Viggo Mortensen – Captain Fantastic
Denzel Washington – Fences

This category is a two-man race between Casey Affleck and my man Denzel, and I think that Ben’s younger brother, Casey, is starting to pull away. Affleck gave the performance of a lifetime in Manchester by the Sea, and has already received numerous awards for his work. I also think because Denzel has already received countless awards throughout his career, including two Oscars and three Golden Globes (one being a lifetime achievement award), that the voters will want to reward a new face to the award season, and Casey Affleck is that face.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama

Getty Images

Getty Images

Amy Adams – Arrival
Jessica Chastain – Miss Sloane
Ruth Negga – Loving
Natalie Portman – Jackie (Winner)
Isabelle Huppert – Elle

Another category that I think might already be locked up. Although each of these actresses gave great performances, I think this award is Portman’s to lose. Her performance as former First Lady Jackie Kennedy has been viewed by many as the performance of her career, even more so than the one she gave in Black Swan, which won her the Oscar for Best Actress. I personally loved her in Star Wars, but I think I’m in the minority in that.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

Getty Images

Getty Images

Colin Farrell – The Lobster
Ryan Gosling – La La Land (Winner)
Hugh Grant – Florence Foster Jenkins
Jonah Hill – War Dogs
Ryan Reynolds – Deadpool

Ryan Reynolds absolutely killed it as Deadpool, it was absolutely hysterical, and I’d be happy if was the recipient of this award, but I think that it’s going to his fellow Canadian/Ryan in Ryan Gosling. I’ll actually go on record and say that this category is also a lock as well. Gosling does it all in La La Land: sings, dances, and even has some pretty good one liners. He’s gotten great reviews for his performance, so I see him taking his award and possibly an Oscar nomination as well. I’d also like to say that I’m one of the biggest Gosling fans out there, I’ll see anything he’s in. Crazy, Stupid, Love is my all time favorite rom-com, and if you don’t like it then go to hell.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

Annette Bening – 20th Century Women
Lily Collins – Rules Don’t Apply
Hailee Steinfeld – The Edge of Seventeen
Emma Stone – La La Land (Winner)
Meryl Streep – Florence Foster Jenkins

This is sneakily a pretty loaded category. I’m fairly confident that Stone wins, because she is not only fantastic in the movie, but the movie has also received extremely high praise. But don’t sleep on Bening possibly winning because she was great in 20th Century Women. I want to give Meryl Streep a shot as well because I love Meryl Streep, but she’s receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement, so I don’t think it’s very realistic she takes home two Golden Globes. Save some awards for the rest of us, Meryl.

Mahershala Ali – Moonlight (Winner)
Jeff Bridges – Hell or High Water
Simon Helberg – Florence Foster Jenkins
Dev Patel – Lion
Aaron Taylor-Johnson – Nocturnal Animals

Ali should be the winner here, but I’m not too sure about this category. He won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the Critics Choice Awards so he should be the frontrunner, but I don’t know if this will be the same. Dev Patel is great in Lion and could possibly win, though I personally feel like his performance was more of a lead performance than a supporting one, but what the hell do I know? Also shout out to Jeff Bridges for being a boss.

Viola Davis – Fences (Winner)
Naomie Harris – Moonlight
Nicole Kidman – Lion
Octavia Spencer – Hidden Figures
Michelle Williams – Manchester by the Sea

Give this award and the rest of the Supporting Actress Awards this season to Davis. She was not only tremendous in Fences, but she also has yet to win an Academy Award, so this could be the performance she finally receives one for, and it starts for her at the Golden Globes. Each of these women gave outstanding performances, especially Williams, but Davis’ Oscar campaign starts with a win at the Golden Globes.

Best Director – Motion Picture

Damien Chazelle – La La Land (Winner)
Tom Ford – Nocturnal Animals
Mel Gibson – Hacksaw Ridge
Barry Jenkins – Moonlight
Kenneth Lonergan – Manchester by the Sea

This is the category that I feel least confident about. Chazelle won the Critics Choice Award for Best Director, so that’s why I give him the edge, but I can also see Jenkins or Lonergan taking home the prize. I think the award is going to come down to one of those three men, and as of today I think that Chazelle will be the winner.

Now that we’ve officially beaten the Mannequin Challenge into the ground, a new dumb internet trend has come to take its place. It’s the circle of life for how the internet works in 2016. The latest viral craze is the Chuck E. Cheese Challenge, where participants dance like they’re animatronic. Remember those clunky ass robots that used to be the worst part of birthday parties back in the day? If not, here’s a quick refresher.

God, I used to absolutely despise those stupid performances. They took away way too much precious time that could’ve been used dominating skee ball. For the Chuck E. Cheese Challenge, people throw on “Redbone” by Childish Gambino and do their best impression of those dancing robots.

I hate this trend, but that’s probably because I’m slowly morphing into a crusty old man that hates everything that’s popular these days. The only time I want to see something about Chuck E. Cheese on my news feed is when a massive brawl takes place there. Call me old-fashioned, but I like my viral content to center around savage violence.

Star Wars Rogue One Reviews

So Star Wars: Rogue One (or Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as its officially called) releases this weekend and the review embargo has been officially lifted. Like many other Star Wars fans, I’m trying as hard as possible to avoid any/all spoilers that have not already been revealed by the actors, which makes finding and reading the right reviews kind of tricky. We want to know whether or not it’s good, but it’s equally important that little plot information is given away.

Disney and Lucasfilms have done such a great job at keeping things secret and behind closed doors that during a trip we took to the London set of Star Wars: Rogue One earlier this fall, almost nothing was learned about the plot or anything really. And that’s how it should be! I still remember angrily reading Twitter just one day before the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and reading the big spoiler that someone had tagged us in. It was infuriating. I must admit that I reported them.

Anyways, now you know where we stand on spoilers (at least in this article). So with that being said, we’ve pulled together a couple of reviews from sites who’ve promised not to spoil anything. Trust me, it’s a task that’s harder than it seems. I’ve read far too much about the movie you probably would care to leave to surprise.

**(Also, a special shoutout to one coworker who was convinced that Rogue One was under embargo because it sucked, not because of the magic and power that Star Wars has over their fans. I am very, very happy to say that at the moment, the movie is getting good reviews.)**

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Reviews

Mashable: “Episode V is widely considered the best of the franchise, consistently winning the most critical acclaim. One recent poll of 250,000 film lovers in Empire Magazine went so far as to name it the best movie of all time, period…

So I do not say this lightly. The best possible tribute I can pay to Gareth Edwards, and the writer team of Chris Weitz and Gary Whitta, is this: it is actually legitimate to ask whether Rogue One is as good a movie as Empire Strikes Back. (And I don’t have an answer for that just yet either.)”

Business Insider: “Playing like a war movie in which you know most of the characters aren’t going to make it out alive, Rogue One is satisfying because everything is laid out in one movie. There’s no waiting a year or two to get questions answered, there is finality (a rarity in today’s blockbusters).”

The Verge: “The score also suffers from comparisons [to the Star Wars trilogies]. Michael Giacchino’s work is excellent, but despite a spattering of themes and adopted stylistic flourishes, the film simply doesn’t have the John Williams cues that have become so inextricably linked to the franchise. It’s a tension that runs throughout the film: it’s trying to be Star Wars, but not. It’s trying to do something original, but not too original.

USA Today: “The stiff dialogue also doesn’t do anybody any favors — while all the best lines go to the snarky, scene-stealing droid K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), even Darth Vader (again with the grumbly tones of James Earl Jones) isn’t safe from a clunky pun.

Still, Edwards has a great handle on what makes Star Wars-ready visual spectacle. He crafts one of the saga’s best space battles in the superb, film-saving third act and takes the action to land for realistic ground-and-pound warfare.”

Dude Sets His Own Car On Fire & Kidnaps Himself In The Span Of 24 Hours

Talk about a hell of a weekend. Vincent Palmer III, 27, was arrested not once, but twice over after he staged multiple fake pro-Trump KKK hate crimes.

First, Palmer planted a note with the words ‘KKK’ and ‘Trump’ as well as several racial slurs that were directed at his own children on the mailbox of his ex-girlfriend before smashing a brick through the window of her car and setting it on fire.

Via The Daily Mail:

Palmer III, 27,  placed a note with the words ‘KKK’ and ‘Trump’ as well as a slew of racial slurs that were directed at his own children on the mailbox of his ex-girlfriend before smashing a brick through the window of her car and setting the vehicle on fire in the early morning hours of Saturday.

He then fled, but returned when his ex, Staci Winn, 35, called him to say what had happened to her car.

Police on the scene then arrested Palmer when they noticed he was acting suspicious and learned there was a warrant out for his arrest over failure to pay child support.

That was the first crime, which in and of itself, is enough to throw this guy in jail for a long time. Personally, excluding the actual laws he broke, I think he should be thrown in jail on the principle of trying to gaslight Americans by creating another controversy that incites even more racial division in this country.

But he wasn’t done. After being released on Sunday, he then went on to stage his own kidnapping.

Her was released on Sunday, and at that point scrawled a bloody note with more racial slurs claiming that he had been kidnapped, which he left for his grandparents.

His grandfather called authorities to alert them to the note and soon after the officers who had arrested Palmer one day prior eventually found him at a nearby Burger King in Ormond Beach.

At that point Palmer admitted to setting the fire, writing the note and faking his own kidnapping.

His reason? Because the couple had been ‘arguing about the custody of their four boys’ who are all under the age of five. Don’t really see how Trump and the KK factors into all of this. Why he thought involving race and politics in his only personal familial issues was going to help anything is about as illogical as it gets. Now, not only will his baby momma be able to take away his custody his children, but the state will too.
