Before I get started with these weekly college basketball picks, I need to be upfront with everyone: I don’t pay any attention to college basketball until the tournament in March, so these picks may not be very good. If you want to bet against me, I won’t be offended, but crazier things have happened and I’ve been pretty hot betting on all sports lately. There’s a good chance that I may not get going until later on in the season, but I’m not going to wait until midseason to start betting. I’m no coward. So I’ll see what I can do with tonight’s slate of games, and let’s see what happens:
Villanova -12 @ Wake Forest
Wake Forest hasn’t been good since the days of Chris Paul and Villanova just won the National Championships, so I’m going with the Wildcats. The game is actually in Charleston, South Carolina, so it’s not like Wake Forest will really have any home court advantage either. I went to a Wake Forest basketball camp with my friend many years ago and it was a good ass time, but I can’t let that factor into my pick here. What I can let factor into my pick is that Jay Wright is the best looking/dressed coached in all of college basketball and I respect the hell out of him for that.
Davidson -4.5 @ Missouri
Steph Curry went to Davidson, so you’d figure they’d have to be pretty good. I know nothing about either team, so this pick is strictly on the Davidson name (mostly Steph Curry) alone, plus I also hate Missouri and think they’re a fraud SEC team that needs to go back to their home in the Big 12. Aldon Smith went to Missouri, and that guy has like three DUIs. Can’t bet on a school that just gives scholarships to someone like that.
Michigan +1 @ SMU
The Fab Five is my favorite basketball team of all time, and although they haven’t been at Michigan for 20 + years, I’m still taking the Wolverines here. SMU may have Larry Brown as their coach, but I’ve always thought he was super overrated, and there’s no chance he’s taking down Michigan tonight. Michigan also made the switch from Adidas to Jordan for all of their athletic wear, and last time I checked Michael Jordan was the best basketball player of all time. Hail to the Victors!
Duquesne -6.5 vs Canisius
This pick is strictly personal. A few of my really good friends went to Duquesne, and it would be disrespectful if I didn’t bet on them in the first week of the college basketball season. I can also tell you that I’ve never heard of Canisius before, and have a hard time believing they’re an accredited university. Dukes, take care of business tonight.
Xavier -2.5 vs Clemson – Lock of the Week
I went to South Carolina so I hate everything about Clemson. Well, mostly just their football team. I could give a shit about Clemson basketball because they’re mostly irrelevant. Xavier is 11th in the country and has been a great program over the last few years, so I expect them to beat the hell out of the Tigers tonight. Lock of the Week, I’d even go as far to say take every cent out of your savings account and put it on Xavier tonight. I couldn’t love this pick any more.
I will admit to you that I don’t know very much about college basketball, and pretty much all of the explanations that I gave for why I picked each game was just me talking out of my ass if you couldn’t already tell, but 50% of gambling is just having confidence in all your picks, and I can’t begin to tell you how much I love each and every one of these picks. My promise to you is that I’ll at least go 3-2 this week, and we’ll continue this shindig next week.
Record on the season: 0-0
Locks of the Week: 0-0
