Who Says You Have To Wait Until March To Start Betting On College Hoops? College Basketball Picks Week 1

Before I get started with these weekly college basketball picks, I need to be upfront with everyone: I don’t pay any attention to college basketball until the tournament in March, so these picks may not be very good. If you want to bet against me, I won’t be offended, but crazier things have happened and I’ve been pretty hot betting on all sports lately. There’s a good chance that I may not get going until later on in the season, but I’m not going to wait until midseason to start betting. I’m no coward. So I’ll see what I can do with tonight’s slate of games, and let’s see what happens:

Villanova -12 @ Wake Forest

Getty Images

Getty Images

Wake Forest hasn’t been good since the days of Chris Paul and Villanova just won the National Championships, so I’m going with the Wildcats. The game is actually in Charleston, South Carolina, so it’s not like Wake Forest will really have any home court advantage either. I went to a Wake Forest basketball camp with my friend many years ago and it was a good ass time, but I can’t let that factor into my pick here. What I can let factor into my pick is that Jay Wright is the best looking/dressed coached in all of college basketball and I respect the hell out of him for that.

Davidson -4.5 @ Missouri

Getty Images

Getty Images

Steph Curry went to Davidson, so you’d figure they’d have to be pretty good. I know nothing about either team, so this pick is strictly on the Davidson name (mostly Steph Curry) alone, plus I also hate Missouri and think they’re a fraud SEC team that needs to go back to their home in the Big 12. Aldon Smith went to Missouri, and that guy has like three DUIs. Can’t bet on a school that just gives scholarships to someone like that.

Michigan +1 @ SMU

Getty Images

Getty Images

The Fab Five is my favorite basketball team of all time, and although they haven’t been at Michigan for 20 + years, I’m still taking the Wolverines here. SMU may have Larry Brown as their coach, but I’ve always thought he was super overrated, and there’s no chance he’s taking down Michigan tonight. Michigan also made the switch from Adidas to Jordan for all of their athletic wear, and last time I checked Michael Jordan was the best basketball player of all time. Hail to the Victors!

Duquesne -6.5 vs Canisius

Getty Images

Getty Images

This pick is strictly personal. A few of my really good friends went to Duquesne, and it would be disrespectful if I didn’t bet on them in the first week of the college basketball season. I can also tell you that I’ve never heard of Canisius before, and have a hard time believing they’re an accredited university. Dukes, take care of business tonight.

Xavier -2.5 vs Clemson – Lock of the Week

Getty Images

Getty Images

I went to South Carolina so I hate everything about Clemson. Well, mostly just their football team. I could give a shit about Clemson basketball because they’re mostly irrelevant. Xavier is 11th in the country and has been a great program over the last few years, so I expect them to beat the hell out of the Tigers tonight. Lock of the Week, I’d even go as far to say take every cent out of your savings account and put it on Xavier tonight. I couldn’t love this pick any more.

I will admit to you that I don’t know very much about college basketball, and pretty much all of the explanations that I gave for why I picked each game was just me talking out of my ass if you couldn’t already tell, but 50% of gambling is just having confidence in all your picks, and I can’t begin to tell you how much I love each and every one of these picks. My promise to you is that I’ll at least go 3-2 this week, and we’ll continue this shindig next week.

Record on the season: 0-0

Locks of the Week: 0-0

Aimee Teegarden is a 27-year-old actress from Downey, California. She made her television debut as Tina Bayes (1990) in a 2003 episode of Cold Case, and she would make her film debut as Bette Warren in the 2004 short film Sailing for Madagascar.

Aimee’s big break would come in 2006, as she landed the role of Julie Taylor in the high school football drama Friday Night Lights. She had a main role in all five seasons of the show’s run, and she appeared in every one of its 76 episodes.

While Aimee is probably best known for her work on Friday Night Lights, she also had a notable role as Jenny Randall in Scream 4 (2011) and starring roles as Nova Prescott in Prom (2011) and Emery Whitehill in the TV series Star-Crossed (2014).

Her latest project is a main role as Ella Benjamin on Notorious (2016). The series is a legal drama, and it is currently airing its first season on ABC.

Now that you know a little background information on Aimee, check out her hottest photos in the gallery below.

Elon Musk Voiced His Own Character On This Week’s Episode of ‘South Park’

elon-musk-south-park

South Park is one of the greatest television shows in history, hands down. And even when this season was thrown for a bit of a loop because of the surprise election of Donald Trump, Matt Stone and Trey Parker continued to do a really good job of rolling with the punches and keeping the narrative going. But we digress…

Even though South Park opens with the whole “All characters and events in this show–even those based on real people–are entirely fictional. All celebrity voices are impersonated… poorly” spiel, sometimes the braver celebrities come on the show to make fun of themselves. And by sometimes, we mean very rarely. Like less than ten times in total.

So this past week (Season 20, Episode 8), when Elon Musk appeared on the show, I thought to myself that the voice impersonation was too good. Musk’s character had appeared on the show before, in the “Handicar” episode, but back then Trey Parker was the one doing the voice. In “Members Only” the voice was spot on. I thought there might have been a chance that he actually appeared on the show himself.

And whaddya know. He did! Check out the credits below, via Uproxx:

South Park Elon Musk Voice

Musk is always busy. So even when he’s not figuring out how to get to Mars or put lasers on the heads of friggin sharks, the world’s #1 big idea guy is meeting up with Matt and Trey and voicing a part for their TV show. And if they get to microdose with LSD along the way, all the better.

I’m not going to lie, I kinda forgot all about Britney Spears. I feel like I haven’t heard one of her songs on the radio in ages, as pop stars like Rihanna, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry have been dominating the charts. She may not ever sell a bajillion records like she used to back in the day, but she just reminded everyone in a major way that she is still a force to be reckoned with.

At midnight, Britney released the music video to her new single “Slumber Party.” It is the second single off her ninth studio album Glory and it features Tinashe.

It’s Britney, bitch! And I thought my slumber parties were wild. Eating your body weight in pizza and trying to get a sleeping friend to piss themselves by sticking their hand in a cup of water has got nothing on that. Britney has had two children and will turn 35-years-old in December, but you would never think that in a million years after watching that video. She’s the Vince Carter of sexy pop stars.

Also, it’d be remiss of me not to mention that Tinashe is a total babe as well. Getting her to hop on the track was a stroke of genius.

This News Anchor Was Fired For Posting Her Political Beliefs On Her Facebook Page

Here’s a story that’s sure to piss a lot of people off: Scarlett Fakhar, an anchor at Fox 26 in Houston, was fired after she posted her political beliefs (specifically, pro-Trump and anti-Obama) on her Facebook page.

You might find yourself asking how Fox was able to get away for firing someone over this. Because Fakhar is a journalist, she’s held to journalistic codes and standards. Not sure if I agree, but that’s not up to me. According to the Society of Professional Journalists’ code of ethics, it says that journalism ethics seek to avoid bias, and advises journalists to “avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived” as well as to “distinguish between advocacy and news reporting.”

Via Dallas Morning News:

A Houston television reporter has been fired after making a Facebook post that expressed joy at the winner of last week’s presidential election and criticized the Obama administration.

Fakhar, 25, posted last week on her personal Facebook page, which is viewable by the public, that she was “happy and relieved” after the election.

“I prayed for the best leader that will turn this country that has become more violent and racist under the Obama administration than ever … into the America I once knew,” she wrote in a since-deleted post.

She continued, saying that President Barack Obama “has made the entire country hate one another” and that “I hate to say it … but the number of African Americans killing one another far outweighs the number of them being killed by whites.”

Yesterday, the anchors of Q13 FOX News in Seattle were having some fun with a doodling game. Everything was running smoothly until Kaci Aitchison took a turn and tried to draw a cannon. You can check out the full video here, but this clip is pretty much all you need.

While that may not be a cannon, it is definitely capable of shooting a load. I love how Kaci knew right away that she goofed up too, as there was absolutely no denying that she drew a penis. You can’t put lipstick on a pig, and you can’t try to pretend that wasn’t a drawing of a lap hog.

But I don’t think that Kaci should be embarrassed in the slightest about her little blunder. In fact, she should embrace her talents. Just imagine what she could accomplish if she quit her job as a news anchor and focused solely on drawing penises. Seth might have some competition when it comes to being the greatest dick illustrator of our generation.

I’ve been on record as saying I don’t f*ck with VR. There are FAR too many ways it could go wrong for it to be worth it for me. You don’t think hackers can get into these bad larrys? You don’t think programmers can mix in some subliminal messages to brainwash your ass? Or how about the fact that VR will probably just make you fat and lazy? Point being is that VR is no bueno and I’m really hoping it isn’t the next big wave of technology (even though it pretty much already is, and therefore I’m screwed).

So, Conan O’Brien took a visit to YouTube’s state of the art virtuality reality lab, and needless to say, it’s a total trip. Legitimately looks like they dropped him in the middle of a South Park episode.

I’m telling you people, this is where virtual reality will lead us:

Here’s How Long Stephen Hawking Thinks Mankind Will Last & Yup, The Clock Is Ticking

Stephen Hawking end of world apocalypse prediction

Jemal Countess/Getty Images

Looks like super-smart guy Stephen Hawking just predicted the end of the world. Yes, you heard it right! Hawking sees the impending endgame peaking its head over the horizon. This world-renowned theoretical physicist and cosmologist says he has a good sense of when this fragile blue and green planet of ours will become a lifeless shape in the cosmos.

This mega-star in the science world has made bold predictions in the past. Last year, he suggested that the human race will be absolutely screwed if and when we are discovered by aliens. Hawking also predicted that humans will likely be extinct within the next 100 years, and it will be our own undoing. All these predictions come across as grave warnings to humanity. Reading these predictions can get you thinking about the need for change.  We seriously need to change our ways in order to survive as a species. We need to look to the future of space exploration and stop being so wasteful when it comes to our resources, especially fossil fuels which impact our environment. We can’t be a species that is constantly at each others’ throats or we will end up becoming our own worst enemies. Hawking felt that even our technological developments will eventually lead to our downfall. He predicted that our species will most likely come to an end by either nuclear war, catastrophic global warming, or genetically engineered viruses.

Now, Stephen Hawking has laid out his exact prediction for the end of our planet. According to the New York Post, Hawking believes that Earth’s survival in this solar system is threatened. “I don’t think we will survive another 1,000 years without escaping beyond our fragile planet,” Hawking said Tuesday, as he lectured students at Britain’s Oxford University Union.

At the conclusion of his speech, the 74-year-old Hawking lent some words of encouragement to the students of Oxford. He told them to “stay curious” and to “look up to the stars and not down at your feet.”

Hey, Stephen, most people are looking up to the stars, anyway! There has been a supermoon out there lately, if you haven’t heard. Nevertheless, Hawking’s words should be taken very seriously by students, scientists and just about every member of the community. We need to find a way to move past a fragile and vulnerable world and break off into the limitless possibilities of outer-space. And according to Hawking, we’ll most likely have plenty of obstacles to contend with, whether it’s with the threat of nuclear or alien annihilation or just the threat of an unprepared species facing the struggle of survival.

There Is A Food Theme Park Opening In Italy Where Presumably All Your Dreams Will Come True

Okay, so, I’ve written almost 1500 articles for COED, but this one right here, this may be my favorite. These kinds of articles keep me hopeful, they remind me that there is still good in this mad, mad world. It’s articles like these that make me feel like humans might know what we’re doing after all. It’s articles like these that make me truly understand the power of a dream, and how hard work and determination can turn that dream into reality.

Courtesy of the second greatest country on the planet, Italy, the world will soon have a FOOD THEME PARK. Nine square mile market? Yup. Four square miles of farmlands? Check. 7.2 square miles of restaurants? F*ckinggggggg CHECK.

Via Uproxx

The park will have gardens, fields, cows, goats, sheep, chickens, fish ponds, a market, stalls that highlight all aspects of Italian cuisine and drink from literally field to the fork. That means you can milk a cow and then turn that milk into cheese right there at the park. You’ll be able to mill harvested wheat from their fields and make pasta from it. There’ll be curing stations so you can learn how to make prosciutto and taste it at all the various stages. There’ll be wine makers and beer brewers to teach their methods. Professional chefs will be on hand to give lessons to everyone from kids to grandmas. There’ll be an entire market with specially made shopping bikes so you can shop the fruit, veg, protein, and products that were made/grown onsite. And the whole place will be powered by roof tile solar panels.

I mean, if that doesn’t sound like heaven on Earth to you, then you need to reevaluate your priorities because food is truly one of the true treasures in life.

It’s Friday and I just realized I forgot to do Florida News of the Week this week. Florida News of the Week is one of my favorite segments for the simple fact that I love laughing at Florida (especially after the election). It’s a gold mine for blogging content. Always has been, always will be.

So as I was sitting around HATING myself for forgetting about one of my most beloved blog posts, I figured I had to really knock it out of the park this week and debut a new and improved version of Florida News of the Week.

I hopped onto to my usual Florida news sources when a tiny little link to a mugshot page caught my eye. Naturally, you know, because Florida is Florida, I clicked. The results were frankly life changing.

This f*cking website allows you to sort through the mugshots by arrest! Want to find yourself some crackhead mugshots? No problem, just filter in all of the possession of cocaine arrests. Me personally, I decided to go with the DUIers of the world, because their mugshots are notorious for producing some A+ comedic faces.

So, ladies and gentleman, without any further ado, COED’s brand new series, Florida DUI Mugshots of the Week!

And before you’re all like, “Eric! How dare you?! This is in such poor taste! You’re an asshole!” I’d like to point out that I’m not the one who decided to endanger the lives of others and get my dumbass drunk face posted to public records. Just sayin’.

Based On Their Bar Tab, The Founding Fathers Were Hungover AF When Signing The Constitution

When the Founding Fathers went out to drink, they did not come to play! Seriously, in one night, they could consume enough alcohol to get a small village drunk. History has shown us that these revolutionary men decked out in white powdered wigs were definitely heavy drinkers when it comes to a night out on the town.

What kind of history am I bringing up? That show Drunk History on Comedy Central? Well, no, not that. Our claim to this drunken fact comes in the form of an infamous bar tab. This huge tab shows us the insane amount of alcohol consumption going down just days before the signing of the US Constitution.

To say the Founding Fathers were hammered would be an understatement. Just a couple days before the signing of one of the most important documents in our nation’s history, 55 delegates were out at the bar getting absolutely wasted! It’s a good and responsible thing that our founders cared so much about getting drunk that they’d keep record of this tab (probably for bragging rights). If people didn’t like to keep track of their outrageous bar tabs then this would all be lost to history. How much did they drink, you ask?

The Huffington Post reports, “In 1787, two days before they signed off on the Constitution, the 55 delegates to the Constitutional Convention partied at a tavern. According to the bill preserved from the evening, they drank 54 bottles of Madeira, 60 bottles of claret, eight of whiskey, 22 of porter, eight of hard cider, 12 of beer and seven bowls of alcoholic punch. That’s more than two bottles of fruit of the vine, plus a few shots and a lot of punch and beer, for every delegate.”

That’s a whole lot of drink! Damn, they were really sauced up, weren’t they? Well, according to the Huffington Post article, in colonial America, the average person would consume much more alcohol on a daily basis than the average person of today. Getting hammered was much more acceptable then if you knew how to hold your weight. But still, this is an insane tab. They must have been fumbling and stumbling out of that bar when they were finished. I can only imagine the pounding headache they woke up to, which may have accompanied the signing of the Constitution.

This historic tab even puts the utterly-ridiculous Dallas Cowboys bar tab to shame. The founding fathers proved that they can party harder than professional football players. Damn, I can only imagine that night in 1787, where 55 delegates got totally trashed.

Jessica Caban: Hottest Photos Of Bruno Mars’ Model & Actress Girlfriend

Bruno Mars is currently making big moves. Today, the 31-year-old pop star released his third studio album 24K Magic, and it also marked the presale date for his upcoming tour. The 24K Magic World Tour will kick off next March, and Bruno will perform a whopping 86 concerts across Europe, North America, and Latin America.

But behind every good man is a good woman, and Bruno most definitely has himself one of those in Jessica Caban. Jessica is a 34-year-old model and actress, and she is from New York City, New York. She got her start in modeling in 2002, finishing as a finalist in a nationwide search to represent Jennifer Lopez’s clothing line.

Her biggest success as a model came in 2008 when she won the first-ever season of Model Latina. After winning the reality show competition, she was rewarded with a contract from Q Management.

As for Jessica’s acting career, she made her on-screen debut in 2010 in the greatest title for a movie ever, Are You for Great Sex? She landed the lead role as Thea Gala Larson in the South Korean romantic drama. Jessica would also appear as Sonia in an episode of the television show Jane the Virgin in 2016.

When Jessica’s not acting or modeling, she’s working on her J. Marie swimwear line. The line was created and designed by Jessica, and judging by the pictures I’ve seen of her in the bikinis, she knows exactly what she’s doing. Enjoy Jessica’s hottest photos in the gallery below.

UNM Students & Teachers Protest President-Elect Donald Trump With Walk Out

It’s pretty obvious that a lot of people are losing their sh*t after finding out Trump won the election. At the University of New Mexico on Wednesday, students and faculty members took part in a campus-wide “walk out” to stand out against the presidential-elect, his controversial rhetoric, and “hateful right wing forces.” The demonstrators conveyed their messages loud and clear, clearly angry about the current political climate in our country.

About 100 students and community members showed up for the demonstration, shouting slogans and holding up signs. What were some of the phrases shouted at this demonstration? “No Trump, no KKK, no racists, USA,” “f*ck your wall, f*ck Donald Trump!” and “f*ck Trump, f*ck that puto!”

Clearly, many people in this collective are hostile towards Donald Trump. They feel that his presence in the political arena is a clear threat to their quality of life. “Donald Trump does not represent the United States. He doesn’t represent the majority,” said one student, Derek Jarner. However, Jarner would then say that he was “not informed enough on what Trump’s stance is” in regards to the LGBT community, as the President-elect has shown his support for gay marriage in the past (there is a photo making the rounds of Trump holding up the LGBT rainbow flag.)

Reportedly, this walk out was a response to “at least two reported attacks against Muslim women on campus, in addition to the racist graffiti spotted around campus,” and this incident has been described as “a clear indication that right wing forces and individuals feel emboldened enough to attack LBGTQ2+, Muslims, Undocumented individuals, women, and students of color on campus.”

President of the Albuquerque Center for Peace and Justice, Samia Assed is also “outraged” by the reality of a Trump presidency. She is particularly alarmed by Trump’s suggestion of creating a Muslim registry. She said, “I hope our allies will stand out to say ‘no’ to these efforts.”

During the “walk out,” organizers boomed their messages through megaphones, expressing their support for people of color, Palestinians, and Black Lives Matter. They also told the crowd that they are against America’s history of “capitalism, colonialism, and patriarchy.”

“This is a call to action to mobilize against those who wish to do us harm at a time when we feel fractured and disempowered,” their Facebook event page states. “We will show strength in unity and show these hateful right-wing forces that the violent rhetoric of Trump will not suppress our resistance.”

The issue regarding racist graffiti comes in the form of buildings being tagged with Trump’s name, a swastika, and a German phrase commonly used as a Nazi salute. UNM President Robert Frank condemned the defacing or destruction of the property, but didn’t specifically comment about the alarming symbols or rhetoric.  Instead, he said that “freedom of expression is a precious right. Property damage is not an expression of that right, but is a potential crime, and we will not tolerate it on our campus,” KRQE reports.  Nevertheless, there are students who feel threatened, and they are coming together to vocalize their concerns.

Professor Rebecca Blum Martinez attended the protest to show “solidarity” with her students. The event page suggested that “all instructors (should) participate in this action as well because we are trying to make a statement to the university that our safety matters.”

But not everybody was happy with canceling class and walking out to protest the “orange fear” that appears to be sweeping many areas of the nation. One poster on the event page offered a complaint, “shouldn’t instructors … I don’t know … INSTRUCT their students in their scheduled class during this time? Not all students will be walking out… The ones who stay, who have paid for their education, should be given their class time instruction and counted in attendance!”

Many people want change, but many people also want access to a college education (especially if they had to pay for it). Regarding the emotionally-fueled, profanity-laced slogans, UNM student Ana Carla Passos-Morgan said that “people do need to show how dissatisfied they are” and “it’s valid as long as there is no violence.”

Tensions are definitely high at the University of New Mexico.

Not sure who I’m rooting for on this one. On one hand, the cop is clearly an aggressive douche who needs to chill out and remember he’s working for the people, not against them. You wanna be a crybaby about being on the receiving end of a middle finger and arrest the guy to bust his balls, fine man, that’s on you. But to f*cking pepper spray the guy? Definitely far too aggressive. On the other hand, why’s the driver flipping the cop off in the first place? What good could possibly come out of that? It’s literally asking for trouble, and I CAN’T STAND people who seek out trouble.

The dude says the Supreme Court ruled that flipping the bird is not disorderly conduct, but is protected under the First Amendment. I can neither confirm nor deny this, but it’s also Friday, so fact-checking is out the window at this point. If you want to take a dive into American law to see if this dude is a liar or not, that’s on you, but I’m not about to waste my time (Edit: the research wasn’t that hard. Here’s the proof. Happy Friday). I’m gonna roll with the man and accept his statement as truth. He’s got a dash cam, so context clues led me to believe that this is one of those guys who knows all of the sneaky laws to stay out of trouble. More power to him.

So, in that case, this cop is probably f*cked. You don’t mess with the first amendment.

Saturday night, the city of Morgantown is set to host a college football showdown between two outstanding teams eyeing the Big 12 Championship. There are three teams vying for Big 12 glory, and two of these teams will be facing off at Milan Puskar Stadium, as the Oklahoma Sooners take on the West Virginia Mountaineers. Both teams are doing great and both teams hold eight wins for this season.

The Sooners are currently on a hot streak. After coming off of a sluggish start to the season, this team from Oklahoma came back with seven consecutive wins. After the third week in the season, the Sooners had fallen from the Coaches Poll, but now they are in in the top 10 and are on the rise. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers actually have a better record this season than the Sooners, as they have only lost once this season to another team from Oklahoma known as the Cowboys. But the Sooners are definitely looking to be the second Oklahoma team to defeat the Mountaineers this season.  It can very well be an Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma competing for the Big 12 Championship. Or maybe not, maybe the Mountaineers will climb over the Sooners on Saturday night.

But where do you go to see all the action unfold live and at your convenience? Just read below and you’ll see how you’ll be able to live stream the game for free!

Tonight, we are finally getting a fight that is actually worth paying the money to watch on pay-per-view. Instead of having to pay extra to see a glorified sparring session, we will be seeing one of the best matchups that could be presently made in boxing. The winner of the light heavyweight bout between Sergey Kovalev (30-0-1, 26 KOs) and Andre Ward (30-0, 15 KOs) will have a legitimate claim as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

Kovalev is the unified light heavyweight champion, and he will be putting his WBA, IBF, and WBO titles on the line against Ward. Kovalev hails from Kopeysk, Russia, and he’s pretty much as scary as Ivan Drago. He boasts unreal power, and he’s a brawler that’s been known to end fights in a hurry. Some of his most notable victories were over Nathan Cleverly (KO), Bernard Hopkins (UD), and Jean Pascal twice (both KOs). In Kovalev’s most recent fight, he cruised to a unanimous decision over Isaac Chilemba this past July.

Ward may be challenging for Kovalev’s titles, but he’s actually a slight favorite in this bout. The San Francisco native is an unbelievably crafty and technically sound fighter, and he hasn’t lost a match since he was a 13-year-old amateur. The 2004 gold medalist spent the overwhelming majority of his career at super middleweight, but after pretty much wiping out the entire division, he’s made the move up to light heavyweight.

Some of the former unified super middleweight champion’s most notable victories were over Chad Dawson (KO), Carl Froch (UD), and Mikkel Kessler (TD). Ward’s most recent fight was an easy unanimous decision over light heavyweight Alexander Brand this past August.

Now that the stage has been set, let’s break down how you can watch Kovalev and Ward duke it out.
