When the 2016 NFL schedule came out and Week 1 matchups were looked at, one of the most interesting ones was the battle between the Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts. Two very talented quarterbacks with suspect rushing games going at it with a chance for 110 passes to be thrown and a four-hour game. With Calvin Johnson’s retirement and still problems in Indianapolis, this game could look very different. Here is a look at the matchup.

The Lions had the high-flying attack led by Matthew Stafford last season and the worst running game in the NFL. There are really no major differences this season. Detroit will depend on Stafford to throw the ball a ton while hoping that Ameer Abdullah can finally become a viable weapon. There are weapons on offense still with Golden Tate, Eric Ebron, and Marvin Jones but will that be enough to overcome a lacking defense. Stafford should have success in this game and could help lead the Lions to a road win to open the year.

Indianapolis needs Andrew Luck to return at 100% after a rough season in 2015 without him most of the time. The run game was 29th out of 32 teams and the defense was awful. This could be a rough start for the Colts if Luck doesn’t put up huge numbers against a weak Detroit secondary. Frank Gore is getting older but was somewhat effective last season. This could be a game where the first team to score 30 points ends up winning. Luck may need a 400-yard passing game to get the job done in the meantime for Indianapolis to have a chance.

Hillary Clinton has had a miserable weekend after getting caught on tape telling a room full of rich celebrities that Donald Trump’s followers (or at least half) are a “bucket of deplorables.” Trump immediately won the day by posting a Tweet from Barack Obama: “RT if you agree: We need a President who fights for all Americans, not one who writes off nearly half the country.”

That’s not Hillary’s biggest concern, though. Her real problem is that a lot of people don’t mind being called “deplorable” by someone with Hillary’s track record of creepy corruption. That includes Robert Davi, the legendary screen tough guy who’s stolen scenes in Die Hard, Showgirls, and The Goonies, in addition to playing the lead in Maniac Cop 2 and being a great Bond villain in Licence to Kill.

The good news for Hillary, though, is that we’ve met Robert Davi a few times, and he’s a fundamentally decent man. It’s not like the Secret Service needs to have a little meeting with the guy. In last week’s episode of Vice Principals, it was Teacher Work Day at North Jackson High. The school was completely devoid of students, but there were still two young troublemakers in the building. Dr. Belinda Brown (Kimberly Hebert Gregory) made Lee Russell (Walton Goggins) babysit her two boys in her office, which proved to be nearly an impossible task. He tried to bribe them with food and porn in exchange for them to reveal secrets about their mom, but they were not having it. They instead escaped to the baseball field to smoke weed on top of the dugout.

While Russell had his hands full with Dr. Brown’s kids, Neal Gamby (Danny McBride) was trying to move on from his daughter. Gamby was convinced that she liked her stepdad better and she no longer needed him. He spent his day bonding with Ms. Snodgrass (Georgia King), and he was somehow able to hook up with her on the school’s roof. Talk about outkicking your coverage.

Despite not having to deal with her mischievous boys, Dr. Brown still had a stressful day. Her ex-husband came uninvited to the school to see their children, and she initially told him to go pound sand. But after talking to Gamby, she realized that her boys need a father figure in their lives. Dr. Brown and her ex-husband reconciled, and they left the auditorium to go see their kids. Gamby relayed this information to Russell via a walkie talkie, causing Russell and the kids to haul ass across campus to get back to Dr. Brown’s office in time.

The episode concluded with Gamby getting a call that his daughter was injured in a motocross race. Once he arrived at the hospital, she gave him a big hug, showing that goofball that she still needs his love.

Fabricio Werdum is a bad, bad man. The former heavyweight champion started his fight against Travis Browne with a vicious flying side kick to the face, and cruised to a decisive unanimous decision after Browne appeared to dislocate a finger in the first round. But while this fight was mostly ho-hum, the real fireworks took place after the final bell.

The crowd had been booing the lack of aggressiveness displayed in the final two rounds, and Werdum responded post-fight by taunting them with fake crying. When Browne’s coach Edmond Tarverdyan objected to Werdum’s antics with some foul language, the Brazilian replied with a swift kick to the stomach. Talk about a gut check.

It’s no secret that to enter the octagon you need to have a screw loose to some degree, but kicking your competitor’s coach after the match is out there even for a UFC fighter.

“Mom says ‘Never say bad things to nobody,” Werdum said when asked about the incident at the UFC 203 post-fight press conference. “He started it.”

The 2016 US Open has had its run from August 29-September 11 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York City, New York, and it finally comes to the close today. This was the 136th edition of the US Open, and was the fourth and final Grand Slam event of the year. The tournament featured men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

The draw for the US Open was comprised of 128 players each for men’s and women’s singles, 64 pairs each for men’s and women’s doubles, and 32 pairs for mixed doubles. Novak Djokovic, who defeatedNo. 10 Gael Monfils in the semi-finals, will be defending his men’s singles championship against, while there will have to be a new female champion crowned this year. Flavia Pennetta, the 2015 women’s singles champ, has since retired. Serena Williams was also upset.

The NFL season is finally back, and one of the best games of the week is an NFC East rivalry matchup between the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. In a division as bad as the NFC East, picking up divisional wins where you can is huge, so even though this is the first game of the season, it carries the upmost importance.

There are storylines a plenty with this game. For Dallas, starting quarterback Tony Romo was injured in the preseason, setting the stage for rookie Texas A&M quarterback Dak Prescott. Behind him, will be rookie running back sensation and first round pick Ezekiel Elliot. Both players have look pretty damn good in preseason, especially Prescott who went 39 of 50 passing (78.0 percent), for 454 yards with five TD passes, two rushing touchdowns and no INTs during the preseason.

As for the Giants, it is their first season under new head coach Ben McAdoo, and the first without two-time Superbowl winning coach Tom Coughlin. After a disappointing 6-10 season in 2015, during which they lost 7 games in the final 75 seconds, the Giants retooled this offseason, especially on defense. Big Blue, who are still led by Eli Manning and Odell Beckham JR, signed former Bengal cornerback Leon Hall, Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins, Jets nose tackle Damon ‘Snacks’ Harrison, and Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon. When it was all said and done, the Giants gave out over $110 million dollars in guaranteed money.

The schedule makers were hoping for a huge matchup for national television in Week 1 of the 2016 NFL season with the New England Patriots playing the Arizona Cardinals. Those hopes were dashed when Tom Brady was suspended for the first four games of the regular season. This will still be a great matchup even with Jimmy Garoppolo under center for the Patriots and the Cardinals trying to improve on their record from last season. Here is a look at the matchup.

This is definitely Garoppolo’s team to begin the year and this is the lone road game on the schedule during that time and it comes in the opener where he may need to go touchdown for touchdown against Carson Palmer. New England put up a ton of points last season but that was with Brady. Rob Gronkowski must be a key to this game. Garoppolo should be looking his way as often as possible to secure key first downs and keep drives alive. The Arizona defense is very solid so this could be one of the biggest storylines of the whole game.

The high-flying Cardinals have Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald along with the emergence of David Johnson on offense to keep them going. There will be the return of Tyrann Mathieu to the secondary as well, which will help matters greatly. Arizona had a huge 2015 season which ended in the NFC Championship Game. This could be a huge stepping stone game even with no Brady on the other side. If Arizona can come out and dominate from the opening kickoff, there will be a message sent to the whole NFL about how serious the Cardinals are about winning Super Bowl LI in February.

One of the major storylines heading into the opening weekend of the NFL season was whether other players would join Colin Kaepernick by taking a defiant kneel during the national anthem. While such an act is always controversial, today being the 15th anniversary of 9/11 made many people consider the display particularly distasteful today. Of course, many others have supported Kaepernick and hoped that other players would follow his lead.

Today, while the entire Seahawks team locked arms, four Miami Dolphins took a knee during the anthem. Four-time pro bowler Arian Foster was joined by Kenny Stills, Jelani Jenkins and Michael Thomas in the protest.

Expect a ton of scorching hot takes from both sides about this in the next few days, but I’ll spare you mine.

If the goal of these protests is to drive conversation then, no matter which side of the debate you’re on, you have to admit they’ve  so far been successful.

The Dolphins were seemingly aware of the players’ plan to take a stand by not standing, and had a response ready to go.

WWE Backlash has finally returned! For the first time since 2009, WWE will be hosting a Backlash event. WWE Backlash is tonight’s professional wrestling pay-per-view event and WWE Network event. It is taking place at theRichmond Coliseum in Richmond, Virginia.  It will be the twelfth event in the Backlash chronology, and the first since 2009. This is the first SmackDown branded event following the company’s  second ever brand split in July 2016. Backlash will determine the inaugural champions in SmackDown’s Women’sand Tag Team divisions.

With four of six matches being championship matches, new champions are sure to be crowned. A successful night will show that Smackdown is capable of carrying it’s own weight since moving to Tuesday nights.

When I first saw the Miracle Mattress 9/11 sale ad, my initial thought was that it couldn’t be real. There was just no way anybody could have been that tone-deaf to write and film an ad that made a mockery of the most deadly terrorist attack in American history. Alas, when I realized that the ad was indeed real, I figured the company would gone from this Earth as a result sooner rather than later.

But I never would have expected the San Antonio mattress store to go under before the anniversary of 9/11.  But that is indeed what happened.

The woman who appeared in the ad, Cherise Bonnano is the manager of the store and daughter of its owner. Amidst the fallout from the ad, she told a local news station:

“We are not hate, we are love, we are somebody that stands out, we are miracle mattress, we make miracles happen. And for our lives to be in danger that is not what we ever wanted… It was stupid, it was a stupid idea that we sent out and we apologize for our stupidity and we really hope that you forgive us for what we have done.”

It is unfathomable how she didn’t foresee the firestorm the  ad would cause, and as a result Miracle Mattress is no more. As awful as this ad was, the most offensive thing about it is that someone actually thought it was a good way to promote a sale. Good riddance.

Baron Corbin def. Apollo Crews (kick off match)

Becky Lynch def. Nikki Bella, Alexa Bliss, Naomi, Carmella & Natalya in a six-pack challenge to win the SmackDown Women’s Championship

This was a fun match that gave everybody (except Alexa Bliss)  a chance to shine. Becky Lynch makes history and becomes the first women’s champion. Here are all the eliminations in order.

1. Naomi eliminates Alexa Bliss via pinfall after hurricanrana
2. Natalya eliminates Natalya via submission to the sharpshooter
3. Nikki Bella eliminates Natalya via pinfall after backbreaker
4. Carmella eliminates Nikki Bella via rollup pinfall
5. Becky Lynch eliminates Carmella via submission to the dis-arm-her

Bray Wyatt attacks Randy Orton backstage. This will be the kayfabe explanation for why the legit injured Orton won’t compete tonight.

The Usos def. Hype Bros via submission

The Usos ditched the face paint and wore all black, and were fully working heel. Zack Ryder tapped out after a solid tag match. And as expected, Mojo Rawley stayed hype.

The Usos will face Heath Slater & Rhyno later in the night with the SmackDown tag team titles on the line.

The Miz (C) (with Maryse) def. Dolph Ziggler via pinfall to retain the Intercontinental Championship

Before the match The Miz tries to renegotiate his contract with a stonefaced Daniel Bryan, and continues to insult the former champion.

This match was given a lot of time due to the relatively meager amount of matches on the card. The Miz nearly forced Ziggler to tap after having the figure-four lock in for a good while but Ziggler reached the rope. Then Ziggler nearly scored a pinfall after a sudden superkick but The Miz was able to get a foot on the rope in the nick of time. Then a few moments later when the referee had his eyes on Miz, Maryse pepper sprayed Ziggler in the eyes. The Miz capitalized on the blinded Ziggler by hitting the skull-crushing finale to pick up a cheap pinfall victory.

Kane def. Bray Wyatt in a no-holds-barred match via pinfall

Bray Wyatt comes out and the announcer gives him an honorary 10-count over the injured Orton. Then it is announced that he will have to fight, and Kane comes out to the displeasure of the Richmond crowd. They’re totally uninterested in watching Kane vs. Wyatt in what is clearly filler. Bray Wyatt pulls out a cool spot when he does a running senton to put Kane through a table. A limping comes walking down the ramp and when Wyatt returns his attention back to Kane, Orton lands an RKO outta nowhere. Then Kane hits a chokeslam to get the 1-2-3.

Even with the RKO, you have to question the decision to have Kane go over Bray Wyatt here.

Heath Slater & Rhyno def. The Usos via pinfall to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championships

Heath Slater spent the majority of this match taking a mugging. After Slater tagged out and then back in he was able to pick up the pin after an ineligible Rhyno hit a gore on the eligible Uso behind the referee’s back. Heath Slater not only has earned a SmackDown contract but is one half of the brand’s inaugural tag team champions.

AJ Styles def. Dean Ambrose (C) to win the WWE World Championship

This match was probably too long, but really hit its stride by the end. Styles and Ambrose went back and forth for the better part of a half hour, with the story being Ambrose repeatedly kicking out of Styles’a impressive moves. Then when Ambrose knocked into the referee, Styles took advantage by kicking the champion in the groin. After the nefarious act, the phenomenal one hit the Styles Clash to win the WWE World Championship for the first time in his storied career. The fact that Styles cheated to win makes it appear that this feud for the title will continue.

Wide receiver Ryan Matthews was trying to carry the ball into the end zone for the Philadelphia Eagles — but, as it turned out, lineman Jason Peters had to literally carry the guy in for the touchdown. It was easily the most amazing moment in the Eagles 29-10 win over the Cleveland Browns

Our favorite part of this, though, is that some Eagles’ fans have been insisting that their team’s entire game depends on the health of Ryan Matthews and Jason Peters. Well, that view has been validated. Good for everyone who made that call…

After one of the most exciting opening weekends in recent memory, the 2016 college football season is officially underway. While week 2 was not the full-blown roller coaster that week 1 was, there were still games to be played, causing a little bit of change in the top 25.

New entries in the AP Top 25 are Florida and Arkansas. The biggest fallers after the second week of play are Georgia & Clemson. The biggest risers are Louisville, Iowa, Florida, and Arkansas. The top 5, while consisting of the same teams, had a little bit of a shake up. Clemson dropped from 2 to 5, and OSU dropped from 3 to 4. Florida State rose from third to second, while Michigan rose from 5th to 4th. Alabama retained their #1 ranking.

There are some major games coming up, such as #2 Florida State vs. #10 Louisville, #1 Alabama vs. #19 Ole Miss, #12 Michigan State vs. #18 Notre Dame, and #3 Ohio State vs. #14 Oklahoma for week 3, so check out the AP Top 25 rankings below!

Going to Rutgers, I’ve unfortunately had my fair share of experiences with gun violence. As I’ve previously written on this blog, I’ve even been robbed at gun point. However, before that ever happened, my first encounters with guns were when we would have to ask certain undesirables to leave our parties. Luckily for us, it never escalated to the severity of the situation down in Texas this weekend.

According to KXAN, police are looking for three suspects after a shooting at the Sigma Chi chapter at the University of Texas fraternity house early Sunday morning. The shooting happened at the Sigma Chi house on 27th Street and Nueces Street around 3:00 A.M. when a person was asked to leave a party that was being held at Sigma Chi. If you’ve ever been in a fraternity or attended a fraternity party, you know how usual of an occurrence this is. The Austin Police Department said the person came back to the house and started a fight, which is when the three suspects starting firing, hitting a security guard. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to the Daily Texan, three arrests related to the shooting were made at the 26 West apartments at around 11:30 P.M. Sunday, according to an officer on the scene.

A little after 11 p.m. Sunday, Austin Police Department SWAT Team officers shut down the intersection of 26th Street and Rio Grande Street, according to eyewitnesses of the arrests.

“It was actually two flights of stairs above my apartment, so the light was shining into my window,” finance junior Carlos Rueda, who lives in apartment 1318 at 26 West, just two flights of stairs above where the suspect was.

Rueda said the SWAT officers ordered the suspects to come down with their hands up.

“Seeing that in West Campus is really just alarming,” Rueda said. “I saw the guns on them and the shields, so I was pretty terrified.”

Nolan Glubke, a member of the fraternity who was not present at the house during the shooting, stood in front of the Delta Delta Delta sorority house and joined a crowd of onwatchers who clapped and cheered as the arrest took place.

“Really the only thoughts that I have are they got what they deserved,” Glubke, a human dimensions of organizations sophomore, said.

An officer inside the complex’s premises said at least one of the suspects in the shooting was arrested Sunday night, although whether all three arrests were related was not clearly determined.

Always a scary situation when urban violence bleeds into the college scene. Fortunately, no lives were lost, and the injured security guard is expected to make a full recovery.

Following Hillary Clinton’s early exit and subsequent collapse at the September 11th Memorial in New York City, there are rumors and reports that the Democratic National Committee will hold an emergency meeting to determine how to move forward with their Democratic Candidate.

What Happened?

Hillary Clinton, after weeks of rumors and reports that she was in bad health, was recorded by civilians getting into her van. In the video, you can clearly see that she’s not only weak but stumbling and nearly collapsing but for the help of her security guards. At first, her doctors were calling it heat exhaustion.

But now, finally, she’s come clean that she has pneumonia–a pretty serious illness for a woman of her age. Apparently, that little cough of hers had gotten worse.

So after Hillary Clinton was carried into her bullet-proof Sprinter van, she was whisked away to her daughter Chelsea’s apartment, where she emerged hours later looking like a new woman. Seriously. She looked so good that some InfoWars freaks started to believe that she had a body double.

Is Bernie Sanders Next Up?

As far as political experts can tell, this is unprecedented territory for the Democratic party. If Hillary’s health becomes too much of a problem for voters (which Trump supporters will hope it does), should the DNC move forward with Bernie Sanders? Apparently, it’s her call, regardless of what her advisers tell her.

Of course, something like this is exactly what Donald Trump needed. His supporters have been saying for weeks that she looked unhealthy, and while these calls seemed like feeble attempts at grasping at straws, now it seems that they were on point.

Update (2:30 PM): The Cleveland Browns have placed Robert Griffin III on injured reserved with a fractured bone in his left shoulder. After undergoing medical tests, it has been revealed RG3 will miss a significant amount of time, and could be out for the entire season. Josh McCown has been named the Browns’ starter.
