After growing up a pro wrestling fan, amateur wrestling just doesn’t make any sense to me. Like why am I supposed to care about two people fighting in the Olympics if they don’t sh*t talk each other for weeks beforehand? And why do all the amateurs fight clean when they could just have their coach distract the referee while they wail away at their opponent with a steel chair?

But this video of Japanese wrestler Risako Kawai suprising her coach Kazuhito Sakae with a pair of power slams after winning a gold medal is right up my alley. Probably because it seems like a moment more suited for Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam than the Olympics.

I love how Kawai delivers the second slam just for good measure.  “That’s for making me run those extra laps that one time in 2013, d***head.” 

The 56-year-old Kawae took the unexpected takedowns with a big smile. Then he got up on her shoulders to parade around with the Japanese flag.

Kudos to the both of them for fulfilling the Olympic dream. But if these amateur wrestlers were anything like their professional counterparts, the piggy-back celebration would have ended something like in the video below, which you have to admit would have been even more entertaining.

UFC 202 and WWE SummerSlam are both happening this weekend, and Conor McGregor and WWE’s locker room continue to antagonize one another. Most recently, McGregor mocked WWE’s standard bearer John Cena. Now Seth Rollins, one of WWE’s most prominent young stars, has retaliated with some expert trolling.

“If he was serious about it, the guy’s 5’6″, 145 or whatever he walks around at, I don’t know. You can see me here, I’m a full sized human being so if he wants to come around and try to slap the face off me, or whatever insult he’s got on the day, by all means step into our ring and see what you got.”

McGregor actually weighed in at 166 lbs. for UFC 202, but that’s still smaller than the majority of the WWE locker room. The 217-pound Rollins continued:

“I think he’d make a fantastic cruiserweight. We’ve got a new cruiserweight division coming to RAW where the guys have to be 205 pounds or less so he could fit right into there. If he wants to come into the ring with the heavyweights, he might have to eat a few more pizzas and drink a few more gallons of milk.”

While McGregor might always look down on professional wrestlers because they’re fighting is more theater than sport, Rollins raises a fair point. Behemoths like Mark Henry, Brock Lesnar, and Roman Reigns are all basically twice the size as McGregor with legit sporting backgrounds.

Still, I feel dirty reporting every time McGregor or a wrestler verbally battle one another, because clearly they are both just trying to generate buzz about their upcoming massive events. Clearly it’s working.

Still, it is fascinating to wonder who in the WWE the diminutive but legitimate badass McGregor would be able to take in a legit fight. But more pertinent to him right now is if he’ll be able to beat Nate Diaz on Saturday night.

Oh. My. God.

Legendary record executive L.A. Reid revealed today on the Rap Radar Podcast that a new A Tribe Called Quest album is in the works.

The esteemed hip hop group’s broke up after 1998’s The Love Movement and though they had reunited a few times in recent years, constant bickering between  principle performers- Phife Dawg and Q-Tip- made the prospect of another album dim. Then when Phife died at age 45 in March, it seemed impossible that a new Tribe album would ever come to fruition.

Alas, Reid- the CEO of Epic Records- unexpectedly announced today that the album is “coming very soon”.

“You know what I’m excited about, though: A Tribe Called Quest. We have a Tribe Called Quest album coming. I’m really excited about that.”

He said the album was recorded earlier this year before Phife passed, and that all four members- Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi White- were involved.

If you’re a college kid who likes hip hop but A Tribe Called Quest is before your time, it’s worth your time to check out their catalog. The smooth poetry of Q-Tip was perfectly complemented by the bodacious Phife while rapping over eclectic beats. They’re hands down one of the most influential rap groups of all time, and Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders are both masterpieces.

And as exciting as this news is,  let’s hope the new album is on par with their previous work and not just a timely cash-in after the Five Foot Assassin’s death. I want to give A Tribe Called Quest but as Q-Tip famously once elucidated, “Industry rule number 4080, record company people are shady.”

WWE SummerSlam is fast approaching, and the card for WWE’s signature Summer event is absolutely stacked. SummerSlam will be the first pay-per-view since the roster was split into Raw and SmackDown brands, and it should be a doozie. Seth Rollins and Finn Balor will compete for Raw’s new WWE Universal Championship, and SmackDown’s Dean Ambrose will defend the WWE World Championship against Dolph Ziggler. Other notable matches include Sasha Banks putting up the Women’s Championship against Charlotte, Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton in the only inter-brand bout of the night, and John Cena taking on A.J. Styles.

The 2016-17 La Liga season kicked off today! Reigning champion Barcelona will be taking on Real Betis in their opening match of the season. Barcelona finished in first place last season, while Real Betis finished in 10th place.

Last week’s episode of Vice Principals began with Neal Gamby (Danny McBride) and Lee Russell (Walton Goggins) ending their partnership. They were both frustrated with their lack of progress in taking down Dr. Belinda Brown (Kimberly Hebert Gregory), and Russell thought that he’d be better off finding a new partner. Russell started hanging out with Seychelles (James M. Connor), a drama teacher at the school, making Gamby extremely jealous in the process.

To further Gamby’s depression, Dr. Brown implemented a new way to discipline students called “Circles.” Instead of Gamby getting to scream in kids’ faces and dole out hefty punishments, he has to let students talk about their issues in a room filled with bean bag chairs and a popcorn machine.

While Gamby’s bummed out he can’t lay down the hammer anymore, Russell and his family are getting harassed by his meathead neighbor Jackie (Owen Harn). Jackie refuses to turn down his music while he’s lifting weights in his garage late at night, making it impossible for Russell and his family to fall asleep.

In a shocking turn of events, Gamby had a breakthrough at a “Circles” session. He realized that he needs to apologize to Russell and get their partnership back on track. He went to see Russell right as he’s getting his ass kicked by Jackie for breaking his stereo. Gamby saved Russell by clocking Jackie with a pair of brass knuckles that he confiscated from a student, but he lets Russell take credit for beating up Jackie when Russell’s wife and mother-in-law see what happened.

The episode concluded with Gamby and Russell shaking hands, mending their relationship and reuniting in their mission to remove Dr. Brown from North Jackson.

UFC 202: Diaz vs. McGregor 2 is tonight’s UFC mixed martial arts event that will being held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is headlined by a welterweight rematch between The Ultimate Fighter 5 winner and former lightweight title challenger Nate Diaz and UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor.

McGregor and Diaz famously previously met at UFC 196. At 196, McGregor was expected to fighting then UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos, but dos Anjos pulled out due to a broken foot just 11 days before the event. Diaz eventually replaced him and the bout was shifted to the welterweight division, requiring McGregor to gain weight to move up a weight class.

During their epic bout, McGregor landed a couple of great shots, but Diaz would eventually with a rear-naked choke in the second round. A rematch was originally scheduled for UFC 200, but that changed during April due to a disagreement between McGregor and Dana White regarding his media schedule. This led to McGregor’s removal from the event and then Nate Diaz was also pulled from the fight.

The other big fight of the night is a bout between former UFC Light Heavyweight Championship challengers Anthony Johnson and Glover Teixeira was expected to serve as the co-main event for UFC on Fox: Holm vs. Shevchenko. However, Johnson pulled out one month before the event due to personal issues.  In turn, UFC officials decided to pull Teixeira from the card and the pairing was left intact and rescheduled to take place at this event.

Real Madrid is coming off a 3-2 win over Sevilla, whereas Real Sociedad hasn’t played a Primera Division game yet this season. The Pocono ABC Supply 500 Verizon IndyCar race weekend kicks off this weekend, culminating in the final race this Sunday at 3:09 PM EST. The Pocono ABC Supply 500 will air on NBC Sports, but if you’re away from the couch and want to tune into the action, there are a couple of different ways you can live stream the race.

The 500-mile race will be the first time that IndyCar drivers return to the track where racer Justin Wilson was killed by debris that hit his helmet. It’s awesome to see this blossoming group of IndyCar stars take the time to interact with the next generation of IndyCar fans.
