Marta Menegatti is one-half of the beach volleyball team representing Italy the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio.  This is her second Olympics, having previously competed at the 2012 Olympics in London with Greta Cicolari.  The duo advanced to the quarterfinals but was ultimately eliminated by the legendary US team of Misty-May Treanor and Kerri Walsh-Jennings.

For the Rio Games, Menegatti was originally paired with Viktoria Orsi Toth for the Rio games, but on August 2nd, Toth tested positive for closebol, an anabolic steroid and was disqualified.  Toth was replaced with Menegatti’s new teammate Laura Giombini. This is Giombini’s first Olympics.

I saw Sausage Party last night, and let me tell you, not only did it live up to the hype, it absolutely blew it away. Mashing Rogen & crew’s trademark humor with a surprisingly poignant and intelligent theme, Sausage Party is far away the comedy of the year. It will be interesting to see if it warrants consideration in the animation category come Oscar season. A movie that finds a way to merge food orgies with religious musings deserves some sort of award.

Anyway, to promote the film, Rogen placed a bunch of animatronic foods in a New York City supermarket to scare the hell out of the innocent customers, and it’s pretty damn funny.

But not as funny as Sausage Party, which you and your buddies should be planning to see ASAP.

The USA and Serbia Olympic Men’s Basketball teams play tonight in the second game of Group A action, tipping off at 6 PM EST on the NBC Sports Network. Hopefully you’re home from work or class by then, but if not you can also stream the game live on your mobile phone or computer. This isn’t a game you’re going to want to miss, especially in regards to watching how Team USA responds to their near-loss against Australia.

Team USA owes their undefeated record to two people, and two people only: Carmelo Anthony (Bully) and Kyrie Irving who singlehandedly saved their teammates from embarassment at the hands of the Australaians. Without their combined 50 points (Carmelo = 31, Kyrie = 19) coming at clutch times, the red, white, and blue was going home disappointed. It didn’t help that Boogie Cousins got in such early foul trouble, but the team’s reliance on one-on-one ball really almost killed them. International basketball really relies on a team effort, so hopefully we realized that after Wednesday.

Serbia, meanwhile, will do whatever they can to get a win. They’re already a team that wouldn’t let USA walk all over them, and watching Australia nearly beat the USA will give them added energy.

The Brazilian women’s volleyball team is definitely a great team to watch, both aesthetically and because they’re quite good at the actual sport. Thus far, the Brazilians have done phenomenally well and their spectators have definitely rewarded them with phenomenal attendance and media coverage. Sadly the women’s team won’t compete against the United States until the elimination rounds, but you can be that it will be an amazing game to watch.

The players themselves are somewhat of celebrities in Brazil, a country that admittedly loves the sport a lot more than we do here in the USA. Additionally, more than a few amount of them (like Thaisa Menezes and Jaqueline Carvalho) have modeled for various magazines.

Anyone else been paying attention to the A-Rod saga? Oh man, what a glorious disaster it is. While I am admittedly, a Mets fan, I am a New Yorker at heart, and have no ill will towards the Yankees. Now, Alex Rodriguez on the other hand, WOW DO I HATE THAT DUDE. Honestly, it’s not the steroids or the lying or the suing of baseball that fuels my A-Rod hating flame. Anyway, A-Rod’s final game is tonight. After being embarassed in Boston all week, he’ll be in New York tonight for one final sh*t show. And for that sh*t show, A-Rod had hopes of more than just being in the lineup. He wants to be in the field, reportedly expressing an interest in playing third base in his final game. However, according to A-Hole A-Rod, that isn’t going to happen, and it’s all because of his manager Joe Girardi. Speaking with The Michael Kay Show, A-Rod revealed the Giradi denied his request to play third base in his FINAL MLB GAME. What a slap in the face.

Which is exactly what A-Rod deserves.

The Association and the teams in it unveiled their 2016-17 schedules on Thursday night. While most did so in a press release or a simple blog post, their’s one team that managed to hit a home run. The Atlanta Hawks Tweeted their schedule using strictly emojis and god dammit I am impressed. Whoever their social media intern or whatever is, they should hire them. And if they already employ him, then give that man a raise!

Atlanta begins their season at home against the Washington Wizards on October 27. Atlanta is seeking- and this is actually quite remarkable – it’s 10th consecutive playoff appearance. Who knew the Atlanta Hawks were such a model of consistency in the NBA?

I imagine he’s brown-nosing his way into oblivion because The Fast franchise is the only franchise in Hollywood dumb enough to cast him. The 34-year-old Larissa is making her third Olympic appearance. At the 2008 Games, Larissa and partner Ana Paula Connelly advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to eventual gold medalists Kerri Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor of the USA. In 2012, Larissa and Juliana Felisberta advanced to the semifinals before losing to eventual silver medalists Jennifer Kessy and April Ross of the USA. They would go on to defeat Xue Chen and Zhang Xi of China in the bronze medal game.

The 33-year-old Talita is also making her third Olympic appearance. At the 2008 Olympics, Talita and partner Renata Ribeiro lost to Walsh Jennings and May-Treanor in the semifinals, and they would miss out on a medal by losing to Chen and Xi in the bronze medal game. Four years later, Talita and Maria Elisa Antonelli lost to Kristýna Kolocová and Markéta Sluková of the Czech Republic in the round of 16.

At the 2016 Olympics, Larissa and Talita are off to a sensational start. They won Pool A after going 3-0 with clean sweeps over Ekaterina Birlova and Evgenia Ukolova of Russia, Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweat of the USA, and Monika Brzostek and Kinga Kołosińska of Poland. Their next match will take place against Karla Borger and Britta Büthe of Germany on Friday, August 12 at 3:00 p.m.

Getting a tattoo of something that went viral just a few days before is usually an awful idea. A week will pass and a new image will replace it at the epicenter of pop culture. But from the moment #PhelpsFace happened, it became evident that it would be the defining moment of Rio 2016 and will be the most memorable image of the most decorated Olympian for the rest of time. So this guy’s Phelps Face tattoo is not just dope now but should remain legendary for the rest of time.

In case you’re living under a rock, Phelps Face is the murderous stinkface Michael Phelps had when  South African swimmer Chad Le Clos was shadowboxing directly in front of him prior to their 200 meter butterfly race. Le Clos had upset Phelps to win the gold in the event at London 2012, but after poking the bear Phelps trounced Le Clos and the rest of the field to add another gold medal to his massive collection.

The spot-on tattoo was done by Toronto’s Chronic Ink tattoo artist Livia Tsang on her boss Ricky Fung’s leg.  So while it remains curious why a Canadian would want to have a reminder of American superiority on their body for the rest of time, this dude got both an amazing tattoo and the best possible marketing for his business.

For the first time since women’s soccer was added to the Olympics 20 years ago, the United States will leave without a medal after being upset by Sweden in the quarterfinal. The two teams played to a stalemate for 120 minutes before the Swedes ousted the Americans in a penalty shootout.

While the Olympics might be slightly less important in women’s soccer than the World Cup, the world was stunned. Hope Solo, in typical Hope Solo fashion, called the winning team a bunch of cowards but she wasn’t the only one who lost it after the United States went down. A federal judge on Friday overturned the murder and sexual assault convictions of Brendan Dassey, who was one of the defendants in the case documented in Netflix’s popular series Making A Murderer.

Who is Brendan Dassey?

Brendan Dassey is a  26-year-old who was convicted in 2007 of participating in the murder and sexual assault of 25-year-old Teresa Halbach, and was sentenced to life in prison.  With the overturning of the sentence he is to be released from prison within 90 days unless a new trial is scheduled. He was 16 years old at the time of the conviction.

Why was the decision overturned?

The 10-part Making A Murderer, directed by Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos, had raised questions about Dassey’s conviction since it was released on Netflix in December. Dassey, was questioned without a lawyer or parent present and confessed to the crime, but later recanted. The documentary suggested Dassey may have been mentally unfit, and was coerced into his confession.

Federal Judge William E. Duffin wrote in his decision:

“The investigators repeatedly claimed to already know what happened on October 31 and assured Dassey that he had nothing to worry about. These repeated false promises, when considered in conjunction with all relevant factors, most especially Dassey’s age, intellectual deficits, and the absence of a supportive adult, rendered Dassey’s confession involuntary under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments.”

Dassey’s uncle, Steven Avery, was also convicted for the Wisconsin murder and subjected to life in prison. Making A Murderer also raised doubts about Avery’s conviction, though his life sentence remains intact.

Stina Blackstenius (61′) of Sweden and Alex Morgan (77′) of the USA were the goal scorers, and Lisa Dahlkvist was the hero. The midfielder hit the game-winning penalty kick to send Sweden to their first-ever Olympic semifinals.

Sweden’s win kept the U.S. from advancing to the semifinals for their first time in major tournament history. After the game, Hope Solo was understandably upset and dropped this hot fire take to the media.

The gold medal match in the Olympics women’s singles tennis tournament is this afternoon. With Serena Williams eliminated, number 2 seed Angelique Kerber is the favorite to bring home the gold. But to win the gold the German will have to beat pesky upstart Monica Puig, an unseeded competitor from Puerto Rico.

Both competitors have earned Olympic medals for the first time. The 28-year-old Kerber won this year’s Australian Open and is ranked second in the world. Comparatively, Puig is currently ranked number 34 in the world.

Normally before a main event fight a UFC star would be talking smack about his opponent to try to gain a psychological edge. But instead of verbally going after Nate Diaz, his upcoming opponent at UFC 202, Conor McGregor just can’t can’t stop taking shots at WWE stars.

This time the target of his criticism was John Cena, the WWE’s biggest star for the past decade. The UFC featherweight champion said yesterday at a gym to promote UFC 202:

“What’s the main guy? John Cena. He’s 40. He’s 40 years of age. He’s walking around in a luminous orange t-shirt and a headband talking about nobody can see him. We can see him right there. He’s a big fat, 40-year-old failed Mr. Olympia motherf***er.”

To his credit, John Cena took the high road in responding on Twitter to McGregor’s comments.

You can’t help but wonder if McGregor is spending his time mouthing off about pro wrestlers because he can’t really talk smack to Diaz because Diaz choked him out the first time they got in the ring at UFC 196.

McGregor made headlines last week when he said in a conference call  for UFC 202, “Those WWE guys are weird p***ies.” After numerous WWE fans and wrestlers angrily reacted, he said in a tweet, “I’d slap the head off your entire roster.”

McGregor’s comments prompted wrestling legend Ric Flair to defend pro wrestlers in a series of tweets that included accusing McGregor of copying his persona.

McGregor responded to Flair’s comments by saying:

“I don’t know what to say to Ric Flair. This ain’t no gimmick. This is the real sh*t. I’ve gotta get in and fight a man for real. With no script, with no nothing. He was talking about bringing some other wrestler guys out to challenge me. Come bring it, then.”

The Irishman then doubled down on his comments criticizing the WWE’s current locker room:

“I’m just speaking the truth. That new age of those guys are absolute dweebs. They just seem messed up in the head. I don’t know what it is. When I listen to them talk, when I listen to them carry themselves, they just don”t seem right in the head. That might have been a bit rudeness for me to say, but again: It ain’t trash talk, it’s truth talk.”

I get what McGregor is doing, generating publicity by going after WWE and its legion of loyal fans. Because WWE is more theater than sport, it is an easy target for the guys who make their living fighting competitively.

McGregor knows that wrestling fans who buy UFC 202 next saturday because they want to see Nate Diaz annihilate him are still paying customers. Count me among those hoping Diaz knocks McGregor unconscious so this dude will quit running his mouth for a few minutes.

The association football tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics is being held from August 4 to August 20 in Brazil. In addition to the Olympic host city of Rio de Janeiro, matches will also be played in Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Salvador, São Paulo, and Manaus. Associations affiliated with FIFA may send teams to participate in the tournament.
