While a team plays in the SEC West, it is easy to look at the standings and see a team near the bottom and think that team isn’t having a good season. The Mississippi State Bulldogs went just 4-4 in the conference play but finished 9-4 after all for the season. The offense was nearly unstoppable outside of the conference and will look to keep things going that way with Nick Fitzgerald under center to begin the 2016 season. He will have Fred Ross and Fred Brown as senior wide receivers to throw to which should give the sophomore some comfort level and a cushion with Dak Prescott now gone to the NFL. It will be a huge hole to fill without Prescott so it may be up to the team’s defense to hold down opponents to keep the Bulldogs in games.

Here is the 2016 Bulldogs schedule…..

Missouri Football Schedule 2016: Tigers Game Dates

There were things that would concern anyone about the Missouri Tigers last season. The offense scored just 73 points in eight SEC games and only 163 points overall during a 5-7 season. The defense only gave up 194 points but had too much pressure put on it because of the inept offense. The quarterback position appears to be one that will be figured out as the season goes on with Drew Lock going in as the favorite to start the opener. This is a season where the team needs to do better and score more points while hoping that their defense can continue their dominance. A three-game home stretch of games must be all won if the Tigers want to make a bowl game.

Here is the 2016 Tigers schedule….

It was a magical season for the North Carolina Tar Heels in 2015 with an 11-3 record and an ACC Coastal Division title. While the Tar Heels lost their last two games, it was still a season that fans will remember for a very long time to come. As the 2016 season arrives, expectations are sky high for North Carolina with a chance to make a similar run again. The offense scored 570 points last season or over 40 points a game. Can they make that happen for a second straight year? If it will, it has to be with a new quarterback and hoping that Elijah Hood can produce from the running back position again. The schedule includes a tough opener with Georgia and a trip to Florida State but not too many other road bumps.

Here is the 2016 Tar Heels schedule…..

The North Carolina State Wolfpack started the 2015 season strong with a 7-4 record before falling in their last two games including their bowl game. It’s going to be a whole new day for the Wolfpack in 2016 with the team needing a new starting quarterback to replace Jacoby Brissett. If that position can produce anywhere close to what Brissett did during his great NC State career, the team has a serious chance of making noise in the ACC this season. While the team’s schedule includes some very tough games in the middle of the season, this is still a team that played solid defense last season and should have a chance to be near the top of the conference standings when all is said and done.

Here is the 2016 Wolfpack schedule….

The Nebraska Cornhuskers were one of the lucky teams to get a bowl berth in 2015 after having a 5-7 record. Nebraska responded by winning their bowl game to finish at 6-7. The 2016 season should bring a chance for the Cornhuskers to improve on their mark with four home games in their first five outings. The team will have Tommy Armstrong Jr. back under center for his senior year which should bring some consistency to the offensive side of the ball. If Armstrong can produce anywhere close to what he has in the past, the Cornhuskers may have a chance to win more than just six games in 2016. Injuries could derail any chances of Nebraska doing anything special though especially if it is Armstrong.

Here is the 2016 Cornhuskers schedule…..

The Northwestern Wildcats haven’t hit the ten-win mark much in their program’s history. The 2015 season was one of those years as the team went 10-3. The Wildcats will try to match that record or go even better in 2016 with a favorable early schedule that includes four straight home games to begin the season. Clayton Thorson will be back under center for Northwestern and will have Justin Jackson returning at running back. The offense must produce more points than they did in 2015 however because it led to too much pressure being left on the defense to hold the opposition down. If Thorson improves, the Wildcats could win ten games again even with road games at Iowa, Michigan State and Ohio State.

Here is the 2016 Wildcats schedule…..

When the Notre Dame Fighting Irish started 10-1 last season, many thought that the team was on their way to the college football playoff semifinals but a loss to end their season followed by a loss in their bowl game ended the season with a 10-3 record and a big thud. The 2016 season brings the return of DeShone Kizer at quarterback and while there is no more C.J. Prosise in the backfield, his replacements look more than capable to replace him. A rare Sunday night game starts the season as part of just three true road games for the season. It has the potential to be another strong season for Brian Kelly and Notre Dame if they can avoid their usual roadblocks along the way.

Here is the 2016 Fighting Irish schedule…..

The Ohio State Buckeyes were oh so close to making it to the Big Ten championship game and having another chance to win a national championship. This season has J.T. Barrett being the undisputed starting quarterback instead of last season’s three-headed monster. Barrett has shown in the past that he can be a great quarterback and with games against Michigan State and Michigan to finish the regular season, he will need to get even better. There are plenty of chances for Urban Meyer to win his second national championship in the last three years. Can his horses hold up and take him back to another title to cement his legacy as one of the greatest coaches in college football history?

The 2015 season is one that the Oklahoma Sooners enjoyed all the way up until the college football playoff semifinals where they got beat handily by Clemson. The 11-2 mark was enough to win the Big 12 Conference and now the 2016 season arrives with big hopes again. Baker Mayfield is back for his senior year and still has Samaje Perine in the backfield. This Sooners team has a ton of talent and is explosive enough to score 600 points in just 12 games. There are two very tough games early on however with Houston and Ohio State that will test how good this Oklahoma team really is. After that, it should be smooth smiling for the early favorite in the conference to get back to the semifinals.

Here is the 2016 Sooners schedule…..

Things were looking great for the Oklahoma State Cowboys through their first ten games of 2015 with an undefeated record. An injury to quarterback Mason Rudolph however threw a wretch in the team’s chances to go undefeated and the Cowboys lost their last three games including the bowl game. Rudolph is back healthy now to begin the 2016 season and with that brings an optimism that Rudolph will take Oklahoma State to a Big 12 title. The road will be very difficult however with games at TCU and Oklahoma to end the season. There is a week off before the Oklahoma game however which may turn into a blessing in disguise as time goes by.

The Ole Miss Rebels have been going through their share of turmoil in recent months even after finishing 10-3 in 2015 including winning their last three games. The 2016 season comes into focus with a lot of the team’s firepower gone to the NFL. Can Hugh Freeze find a way to get this team on track to win ten games again? He will have Chad Kelly at quarterback for his senior season. Kelly is one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC and will be counted on to be the one who carries this team to success in 2016. With a schedule that includes plenty of home games to start with including a visit from Alabama, it will be key for Ole Miss to get off to a hot start.

The 2015 season wasn’t one that lived up to the normal standards for the Oregon Ducks as the team finished 9-4 and lost their bowl game. There is a battle at quarterback between Dakota Prukop and Jeff Lockie and a star running back in Royce Freeman. Freeman is the one that fans will be watching very closely this season as he could get himself into the Heisman Trophy race with another big season. While the schedule will cause some pause especially with trips to USC and Utah late in the season, it may be the time for the Ducks to fly high again in 2016. The Pac-12 appears to be one that can be won by this Oregon team if everything falls the right way.

There was a lot of happiness around the Penn State Nittany Lions last season as the team started 7-2. The problem is that the team lost their last four games to finish 7-6. Penn State also will begin life after Christian Hackenberg now as well and with a tough schedule to deal with. The one saving grace is that Saquon Barkley will be back at running back and while opponents may try to stack the box to stop him, Barkley will be expected to carry a lot of the load this season. Home games against Ohio State and Michigan State will be big tests along with a trip to Michigan early in the season. Can Penn State believe in Trace McSorley’s arm enough to get this team to a major bowl game in 2016?

The Pittsburgh Panthers knew they were going to be in for an uphill battle last season with how well North Carolina was playing. Pittsburgh still finished 8-5 even after losing their last two games. It will be the final season for Nathan Peterman during his senior campaign and with Qadree Ollison in the backfield, they will be high hopes for the Panthers to win the ACC Coastal title. Ollison proved last year how good of a running back he can be and Peterman has shown he is a solid game manager. An early trip to North Carolina followed by a trip to Clemson later in the season will be two very key games for the success or failure of this year’s Pittsburgh team.

When a team finishes in the bottom of the Big Ten Conference, many people believe that the team isn’t going to be very good the following season either. The Purdue Boilermakers finished 2-10 in 2015 and lost their last four games in the process. The 2016 season is one that has the make or break feel of any season in a long time. There is a ton of youth in the pass game with the team having just sophomores to throw out there which may make any progress difficult to make. The biggest thing for Purdue this season will be avoiding the bottom of the conference standings again and they can do that with wins over teams like Maryland and Indiana as the season rolls on.

Here is the 2016 Boilermakers schedule….

There was a lot of turnover last season with the South Carolina Gamecocks. Coach Steve Spurrier retired halfway through the season and the Gamecocks finished 3-9 and at the bottom of the SEC East. It is a new season in 2016 however and with it allows the chance for things to improve. A very favorable home schedule should help matters but turmoil at the quarterback positon may derail any positive vibes as Perry Orth and Brandon McIlwain fight for the starting job. The team will be home for five straight games through October and while they will have to play Clemson to end the season, the team will just be looking for improvement in 2016 over a major bowl berth.

The Stanford Cardinal showed last season why they are one of the best teams in all of college football with their 12-2 record and complete domination of Iowa in the Rose Bowl. The 2016 season shouldn’t be much of a change even with Kevin Hogan graduated because of the team’s ultra-impressive running back Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey can do everything from run the ball to catch it to returning kicks and even throwing it every so often. He is a one-man wrecking crew and will be depended on a ton this season. Two road trips could be the only thing that derails this team at UCLA and Notre Dame. The Cardinal showed they should have been in the semifinals and will likely find a way to make it this year.

The Syracuse Orange went 4-8 in 2015. The team hasn’t been the greatest for their fans at the Carrier Dome over the past several years but the 2016 season just may be the one that changes things and sends the Orange to a bowl game. Eric Dungey returns for his sophomore season at quarterback and while his running back are all very young, Dungey proved last season that he can be a dual threat. He is going to need to if Syracuse is going to win the six games necessary to make a bowl game. There are games against Notre Dame, Clemson and Florida State on the schedule that won’t make things easy but this could be one of the surprise teams of the 2016 campaign.

The TCU Horned Frogs won 11 games in 2015 to the surprise of none. However, their two losses were enough to push them out of championship contention. Their 11th win during a rally against Oregon to win a bowl game was their crowning achievement. The 2016 season begins with new expectations and a new quarterback with Kenny Hill likely taking over. The wide receiver core is diminished with Josh Doctson now in the NFL so it may take some work to get everyone on the same page moving forward and into the season. The Horned Frogs do get to host Oklahoma and Oklahoma State which could be key to them having a chance to win the Big 12 in 2016.

There were some people who were surprised by the Tennessee Volunteers last season and their 9-4 record which concluded with six straight wins. Butch Jones and company are riding a ton of momentum into the 2016 season and will have four straight home games to start it off including a big one against Florida to end the stretch. Josh Dobbs returns at quarterback while Jalen Hurd is back at running back. For a team that returns 17 starters from a year ago, expectations are going to be skyhigh now to win the SEC East and make it to the conference title game. Dobbs proved what he can do last season and Hurd is a very talented back to go with it. Watch out for Tennessee in 2016.
