Despite what you may have assumed as a kid, Easter Sunday is not just about painting eggs and going on Easter egg hunts for candy and money. In fact, there’s no connection between these events and the true meaning of Easter Sunday–the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Holy Son of God.

This year, Easter Sunday falls on Sunday, March 27, 2016.

Why is it called Easter Sunday?

No one actually knows for sure, but the assumption is that it comes from late-seventh-century historian Bede. He stated that Easter derives from the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring and fertility, Eostre. The entire month of April, or Eosturmonath, was dedicated to her. Because April was synonymous with the practicing of spring rituals, the connection was made and Easter was named as such.

What is Easter Sunday?

Easter Sunday is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ after He was crucified on Good Friday and died on the cross. The egg decorating and egg hunts first came about back in ancient Roman times, and began as a way to make Christianity more appealing to non-Christians. To do so, they wanted to add in some spring rituals, which is where the eggs and bunnies come in.

While individual American Easter traditions may differ from family to family, one common denominator is food. Apparently, over 90 million chocolate Easter bunnies are made each year. What is Easter?

I’m so glad you asked! Easter Sunday—also known as Pasch or Resurrection Sunday—is a religious festival celebrating Jesus’s rise from the dead in the New Testament. What starts like the beginning of Night of the Living Dead is actually the  foundation of the Christian faith.

Unlike most holidays, Easter has no set date. Instead, Christian churches celebrate Easter on the first Sunday following the full moon after the vernal equinox on March 21. This means that Easter cane be observed anywhere between March 22 and April 25 each year.

Not only is the date shaky, but the exact origins of the day’s name are also unknown. Some sources claim the word Easter is derived from “Eostre,” a Pagan goddess of spring and fertility with Germanic origins. This connection to new life may actually explain the bunnies, eggs, and chicks—all of which are popular symbols of fertility. Another theory is that the word comes from Latin term “hebdomada alba,” which means “white week.” Through a translation error, the word was transcribed as “esostarum” in Old High German. This would eventually became “Easter” in English.

MLB The Show 16

We accidentally published a review of MLB The 16 before the allowed embargo. Our apologies, but check back at midnight to see what we thought of the game.

As you may or may not have already seen, rapper Lil Dicky starred in a sincere PSA on behalf of Trojan Condoms to talk about protection, safe sex and the importance of avoiding STDs. Unlike some of the other “sponsored content” we see on the web, this is a video that’s generally funny to watch–mostly because LD seems so genuine.

We’ve been following the rise of Lil Dicky from back when he was recounting the story of The Lion King in rap verse and wondering about the size of his current girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend’s penis.

So when we heard that we’d have the chance to talk to Lil Dicky about safe sex, his Spring Break tour, and whatever else we wanted to chat about, we took Trojan up on the opportunity. But first, watch the PSA below:

COED: First off, about The Big Talk–it’s awesome. A lot of people are saying good stuff about it, but why don’t you tell us what we all really want to know? Your friend Jordan, you said that he had an STD. How’s he doing?

Little Dicky: You know, I haven’t followed up with Jordan about that specifically, but I think he’s good, I think he might have gotten lucky this time.

That’s good.

I mean now I think he has certainly learned his lesson.

I think that’s probably a good thing. What about you man, have you ever had unprotected sex before and were worried about it afterwards, even after a day or two?

I worry about, the only unprotected sex I’ve had was like a serious girlfriend.

Okay.

And by the time that the unprotected sex is happening, it’s usually like at a very, I know you’re not sleeping with anybody else place. Like I’ve never really had like a random hook-up that was unprotected, I’m pretty cautious about that, but you know I’ve had it where I’ve worried for sure, yeah.

How did that project start?

Honestly, I forget the origin of how it all started. I think we might’ve just met someone who worked for them and like it happened organically that way.

But yeah, it makes perfect sense, for me because I think you can tell when you watch that clip, that it’s very much not the corporation telling me what to say, it’s exactly how I’ve always filmed.

What’s one example of a girl or a fan who was like so desperate that it was actually a real turn-off for you?

One time after a show in Detroit two girls at the same time had approached me and said that I could sleep with them at the same time if I left with them right now. And I said, you know, I couldn’t be more horrified by this behavior. To me, I just get turned off from like when the advances are transparent and obvious. I guess I’m just like the ladies–I like to be wooed.

That’s awesome, because I know for sure that most people who had their own album with a Snoop Dogg feature would 100% start taking up offers from groupies.

I don’t have it in me.

Lil Dicky has also been tearing up Spring Break with his Looking for Love Tour.. Making stops in places like South Padre Island to cruise ships, LD brought the party with him wherever he went, rain or shine.

We cover a lot of spring break content here at COED, and I’ve seen a lot of photos of you with like fans on Spring Break at house parties. Did you crash a lot of parties?

Yeah, you know it was like pouring rain at South Padre Island, so we were completely limited to indoor activities. You know, I feel like I have a only a few months or maybe six months to a year left of really being able to socialize and party, you know what I mean? So I kind of I’m trying to take advantage of the time I have left without being fully mobbed.

Any good stories from them?

Not really. There was one time that was super memorable like you know it was after a show and I went to a party and you know and I walked in and everybody had their cameras out and it was like a circus, it’s hard to explain. You think you’re just walking into a party and everybody turns to you and starts cheering and like chanting your name like crazy. I just think retreated to the corner and my food and left.

That’s pretty sh*tty but at the same time you can kind of understand. Speaking of Spring Break when you were there did you ever go on break yourself?

Oh not like the traditional typical spring break, one time me and my friends went to Jamaica.

That’s traditional as f*ck, man, I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Let’s switch it up a bit. One of the first videos I saw of you was tearing it up on the basketball court during one of your tours. Whose game do you think is most similar to yours?

Honestly Steph Curry and I would’ve said that honestly seven years ago back when was a player at Davidson and that’s a very chic pick, but I play a lot like Steph.

What’s your current favorite pair of sneakers to wear while playing.

I actually wear Kobe’s. Kobe has always been one of my favorite athletes in the history of sports, and beyond that I just like low tops.

Speaking of basketball, make a six-man Dream Team (five starters and a bench warmer). The only rules are that you have to be on the team and that they have to be rappers.

You know I’m not, I haven’t played with a lot of rappers that I can say, but yeah I’d be the starting point guard for sure. Chris Brown is my shooting guard, Chris Brown is really good. I’d go The Game, he’s like a dominant big man. Snoop plays. Snoop’s KG out there. And J Cole. J Cole is a good basketball player, so those are my starting five. And coming off the bench, I feel like Vince Staples is good. I think he’s good though from what I’ve heard.

I did expect 2 Chainz to be on the list because apparently he played Division II but I’m glad to know that Snoop can actually ball.

You could put 2 Chainz on there easily and Master P and Lil Romeo.

Are Master P and Lil Romeo still rappers?

Once a rapper, always a rapper.

I’m wondering, are you big enough yet to have your own weed guy in the entourage, or are you doing that stuff yourself still? Do you have interns?

Sometimes I’ll hire an intern for the summer. I’ve got my own crew yeah. But I’ll never be that guy. But I’ve got my team that’s adequately prepared to roll weed at this point. People on my team roll, so I don’t need to hire someone to do such a trivial task.

Smart spending. Second question, those chicken and waffles blunts you posted on Instagram, how were those? Up to par?

They just tasted like chicken and waffles, it’s cool. I want them to make macaroni and cheese next.

Getting dumped is one of the worst feelings in the world. Your heart is literally ripped out of your chest by someone who once said they would give their life for you, and now you can’t even think of their name without wanting to gouge eyes out of your head. Maybe that’s just me… but what we can all agree on is that getting dumped f*cking sucks.

However, unlike this chick below, we managed to get out of that awful relationship without having a thoroughly documented psychotic break. It’s a miracle!

The #BananaPeelChallenge is the latest meme to start trending on social media, and it’s one that we 100% support.

Not because we think it’s brilliant, but because some teenager on Twitter or Instagram is definitely going to break the hell out of their arm or skull for a shot at going viral. We’re expecting the results to be somewhere between “The Condom Challenge” and the “Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge.”

I can’t say that I necessarily blame them, every kid in the world eventually learns the hard way that banana peels are as slippery as cartoons make them out to be, but now there’s the potential for tens of thousands of kids to try it all at once.

Mashable seems to be blaming Twitter user Jason Oakes for starting the trend, so irresponsible parents should blame him when they’re taking their teenager to the ER.

We already know how awesome USC is thanks to our Miss COED 2016 winner Kendall Fuhrman, but Phi Delt is taking their school to a whole other level.

The fraternity threw an ’80s Ski Lodge Party, an awesome theme we can definitely get behind. It’s weird, it’s original, and everyone loves big fluffy flakes of fake snow. While the theme is sweet all in itself, it’s the video that takes things up a notch. The girls are gorgeous, the guys are wearing ski goggles, and we wish we made it to this party before it was too late. Here’s hoping it makes an appearance again in the near future.

With the US presidential election drawing near, Anonymous’ war against Donald Trump and threat to expose Ted Cruz’s sex scandal is taking over headlines.

While the loosely organized, leaderless, faceless group wreaking havoc on our political candidates is a ton of fun to watch, just how much teeth have they got behind that Guy Fawkes mask?

Let’s take a look at some of their most famous hacks of all time.

Project Chanology

In 2008, after the Church of Scientology removed a video where Tom Cruise claimed that Scientologists are the only people who can help after a car accident, and Scientologists are the authority on getting addicts off drugs, Anonymous struck.

Anonymous issued a “Message to Scientology” on YouTube, on January 21, 2008. The video states that Anonymous views Scientology’s actions as Internet censorship. This was followed by distributed denial-of-service attacks (DDoS), black faxes,prank calls, etc. In February 2008, the focus of the protest shifted to legal methods, including nonviolent protests and an attempt to get the Internal Revenue Service to investigate the Church of Scientology’s tax exempt status in the United States.

Project Darknet

In 2011, Anonymous took on child pornography. Lolita City, a child pornography site run over a concealed “darknet” was disabled by Anonymous, and account details of 1,589 users were exposed to the public.

Anonymous’ attack was focused on a hosting service called Freedom Hosting, which the group claims was the largest host of child pornography. “By taking down Freedom Hosting, we are eliminating 40+ child pornography websites,” Anonymous claimed in its statement. “Among these is Lolita City, one of the largest child pornography websites to date, containing more than 100GB of child pornography.”

And it didn’t stop there. Pedophiles’ bubble of fun turned into vapor when Anonymous invited the FBI to investigate further.

Attack on HBGary

Anonymous group had performed a series of high-profile denial-of-service attacks on PayPal, MasterCard, and Visa, after the credit card companies and payment processor halted all donations in support of WikiLeaks.

Law enforcement agencies around the world wanted to know who was behind the pro-WikiLeaks attacks—and Aaron Barr thought it was the perfect opportunity to get HBGary Federal’s name some high profile press and reinvigorate the business. So on February 5th, 2011, Barr announced his plans to unmask Anonymous’ main players.

The reaction from Anonymous was immediate and brutal.

Anonymous took down Barr’s website, stole his emails, deleted the company’s back-up data, and remotely wiped his iPad.

In a chat log, they spoke with Barr, who was using the name “CogAnon.”

Arab Spring Activities

Outside of the US, Anonymous supported uprisings in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia, by attacking government websites, helping revolutionaries organize, and raising awareness about the conflicts.

Anonymous uses technological methods of nonviolent collective actions to achieve political goals. Among other tactics, Anonymous members provide translation services for in-country activists, create internet access points, and hold denial of service attacks/internet sit-ins.

I don’t know about you, but these hacktivists sound pretty frightening to me. April 1 is only three days away, and that is the date set out by Anonymous to commence the cyberwarfare attacks on Trump’s entities including TrumpChicago.com,DonaldJTrump.com, Trump.com, Trumphotelcollection.com and Trump’s online campaign destinations including DonaldTrump2016online.com and CitizensForTrump.com.

A shooting has been reported inside or around the Capitol Visitor Center. People inside, including workers and the press, have been asked to shelter in place by the PA system.

According to the Daily Beast, staffers at the Capitol Center received this email shortly before 3:00 p.m. ET saying that no one can exit or enter any Capitol buildings and if you are outside to seek cover immediately.

US Capitol police are already on the scene and backup can be heard from miles away.

The Associated Press has also announced that the White House and Congress are under lockdown.

Update–3:02 PM: Reuters says that they have captured the gunman and that one policeman has been shot. Thankfully it seems as though the policeman isn’t seriously hurt.

Interestingly enough, the Capitol Visitor Center was constructed after an earlier shooting in 1998 when Russell Eugene Weston, Jr simply entered the Capitol and opened fire, killing two police officers. The room now exists to create a barricade between the public and the inside of the Capitol itself.

The Oklahoma Sooners’ Buddy Hield has been on fire during March Madness 2016, leading his team all the way to the Final Four with 37 points against Oregon. But despite all the heat the Bahamian shooting guard has been throwing on the Big Dance, the OU cheerleaders are making a very convincing argument for the title of hottest Sooners on the hardwood.

They’ve been front and center for all the early bracket rounds and we couldn’t be more excited to see them in action at the Final Four in Houston. Speaking of watching them in action, is it just us, or does it seems as though the NCAA has been cutting down on the cheerleaders’ screen time?

Kehlani Parrish, the girlfriend of Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, is in the news today after an ex-boyfriend of hers posted an Instagram photo of the two of them insinuating that she’s cheating on Kyrie. Kehlani herself is a Bay-area musician who just finished a whirlwind of shows and interviews at SXSW.

So as were saying, Kehlani’s ex-boyfriend (also a musician) named Party Next Door, posted this photo on his Instagram account. Obviously it’s been removed, so all we can do is show you the screenshot.

So what’s the deal? Is this real? Is this a new photo? Honestly I’m not involved in the whole possible love triangle so I don’t know. But I will say that if you blow the photo up and look and the clock on the wall, it looks like the time is around 4:20 PM.

This photo was posted around 3:00 PM EST, so if I’m in the right ballpark there’s no way this photo was taken today.

All the same, does it even matter to Kyrie? Clearly this guy Party Next Door is hating and there’s no need for those kinds of distraction in an already sketchy Cavaliers locker room.

Batman vs. Superman

Batman vs. Superman debuted this weekend to the horror of critics. The film got a stunningly low 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the average score was 5/10, but that didn’t stop the picture from grossing (as of this writing) $170.1 million domestic and $424.1m worldwide, despite the fact that 7 out of 10 critics hated the movie.

The reviews confirmed that Batman and Superman do beat the heck out of each other. They confirmed that the film is full of “gotta see this in IMAX” spectacle and cinematic grandeur. They argued that Ben Affleck made a compelling Batman. They mostly were thrilled to see Wonder Woman in her late-in-the-game action cameo.

Ticked all the boxes, sounds like a great movie to me!

Now, why did Batman and Superman start fighting? Gotta watch the movie to find out. Until then, let’s get ready for popcorn with some steamy memes.

Derrick Willies is a wide receiver for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Willies recently transferred from Trinity Valley Community College to play football for the southern college, and the dude is a complete beast. Since this news of the Samsung S7 Active is a little premature, we don’t know about the official Samsung S7 Active specs. But is that going to stop us from printing rumors or speculation? Absolutely not.

The safe bet is that the S7 will house the same hardware as the Galaxy S7 (maybe not the same as the S7 Edge). At least, that’s been the case in the past few years. If anything, the battery might be a little improved since that was what happened with the S6 Active.

Otherwise, the processor, camera, screen size, etc. was all the same.

The big difference last year with the S6 Active vs the S6 was that the Active had waterproof and dustproof protection. This year, however, the S7 is dustproof and waterproof up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes at a time. So perhaps the S7 Active will be more waterproof.

The Verge even reported this tasty tidbit:

It’s also been rumored by serial leaker Evan Blass that the device’s codename is Poseidon, which perhaps suggests extra waterproofing.

Or maybe the S7 Active will have a shatterproof screen. Or just be invincible from drops. All of these things would be great.

The one thing that hasn’t been great in the past is the fact that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active was only available to AT&T customers. Sadly, we’re not betting on that changing.

One way too eager guy even gave her $1,500 for her company. Considering she’s an executive assistant, we can assume she’s making more off of her dating profile than her actual job.

For those not aware, WhatsYourPrice is an online dating website where men bid to go on dates with attractive women. Ham claims her success comes from her striking resemblance to Kim Kardashian.

“My features are what reminded them of Kim Kardsashian, and [I] was constantly compared to her,” she said in a recent interview with The Daily Mail. “The couldn’t wait to meet me, and sometimes I was told I looked better than her.”

That may be taking it a step too far… but we’ll let it slide, Christine.
