Oscars 2016 Red Carpet: Must-See Best And Hottest Photos

Olivia Wilde L

The 88th Annual Academy Awards may be having a diversity problem as they take place tonight at the Highland Center — but that’s also inspired the Oscars to bring in a very diverse collection of beauties on the red carpet. The panicking Academy has brought a lot of television stars to the biggest night in film. That’s giving us a chance to ogle a very wide range of award-worthy bods. [photo: Jason Merritt/Getty]

Olivia Wilde, for example, looks pretty amazing. Daisy Ridley is also showing off some fine new angles of her intergalactic body.  Same goes for hot Oscar nominees like Saoirse Ronan, Brie Larson, and Rachel McAdams in an unusually daring outfit. We also like Rooney Mara, of course, and Cate Blanchett looks really hot tonight, too. We’re not just saying that because Rooney is Cate’s love interest in her Oscar-nominated turn in Carol.

Charlize Theron also looks amazing, but she was still  robbed of her Oscar nomination for Mad Max: Fury Road. And we know Olivia Munn is an official movie star now that she has X-Men: Apocalypse coming out this summer.

But the call for diversity means we’re also getting small-screen beauties like Priyanka Chopra and Sofia Vergara. Pop singer Andra Day also rated an invite, and responded with a very hot Old Hollywood look. Heidi Klum, as usual, shows that supermodels can always steal any kind of gala event.

Maria Menounos would’ve shown up, anyway. She’s covering the red carpet for E!, but also reminds us why she’s a star in her own right. Now check out this red-hot carpet and get a good reason to watch the Oscars — even if you’re offended by a lack of diversity…

Chris Rock Killed It With His Opening Oscars Speech

Chris Rock Oscars Monologue

Chris Rock is tonight’s host for the 2016 Oscars and the comedian did not disappoint with his opening monologue.

With controversy surrounding the event, particularly a spotlight on a non-diverse nomination pool, Rock touched on the fact that #OscarsSoWhite is totally legitimate. However, he also thinks the protesting aspect of the whole thing is kind of a joke… or does he?

Dressed in a white jacket (which by the way, was definitely not a coincidence), Rock singles out Jada Pinkett Smith and her husband Will Smith, who was snubbed for his film Concussion. His thoughts on her boycott, however, were questionable.

“Jada [Pinkett Smith] boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. You can’t boycott something no one invited you to.”

Then, the burn got worse: If he wants it all about merit, can we complain about the $20 million he got for Wild Wild West?”

He also called out Hollywood for being racist – specifically “sorority racist.” He elaborates, “We like you Rhonda… but you’re not a Kappa.” Yikes.

On a more serious note, the popular comedian commented on a larger issue currently plaguing the American public: “This year, in the in memoriam package, it’s just going to be black people that were shot on their way to the movies.”

If you didn’t cringe hearing that, you weren’t listening.

Apparently his biting words were far from surprising; Harvery Weinstein, the co-chief of The Weinstein Co. knew it was coming. “I just can imagine Chris Rock’s opening remarks,” he explained. If anybody’s [planning on] boycotting the Oscars, don’t, because Chris Rock is gonna annihilate every one of us in the first 20 minutes of the show, and it will be well worth watching. It will be an Oscars to remember.”

Reactions on Twitter vary:

Stacey Dash’s Oscar Appearance Was Reaaal Awkward

Stacey Dash was one of Chris Rock’s many punchlines, but her appearance was also one of the most awkward.

After making headlines earlier this year for speaking out about #OscarsSoWhite and questioning the existence of BET and Black History Month, the Clueless star played a parody role in one of Chris Rock’s various race-centric jokes. But considering her controversial comments, you’d think she’d be one of the last people Rock could call into play to make his point.

Maybe his real point was just to make her look like an idiot? Because that’s kind of how it turned out.

Here’s the full clip:

Anddddd let’s focus in:

As for crowd reactions, The Weeknd sums it up pretty well:

And of course, Chrissy Teigen:

According to Mashable, Dash has already explained her appearance.

Dash wrote a post on Patheos.com on her appearance at the Oscars. She didn’t take back anything she had previously said, she just wanted to let everyone know she had that sense of humor.

“When they added me to increase the diversity, I’m sure many black people rolled their eyes,” Dash wrote. “I’m the actress from the South Bronx who has always dreamed of winning an Oscar. But God has a great sense of humor and this is my first encounter with one of my dreams of destiny. Bringing diversity to Hollywood… not merely because of color, but politics as well.”

Is tonight’s Oscars award ceremony just a string of awkward moments held loosely together by Chris Rock and Chrissys Teigen’s meme reaction face? It’s starting to look that way – and Twitter is taking notice.

Currently tweeters are hounding Sarah Silverman for a weird James Bond joke that just didn’t make sense (and focused on her “heavy Jewish boobs,” which apparently, no one wanted to see let along hear about).

Here’s how it went:

Yeah… you heard all of those laughs? No? That’s because they weren’t happening. And Twitter was less than kind about it.

Leave it to the Internet to verbally beat the sh*t out of everyone.

Tracy Morgan Oscars Video

Chris Rock’s monologue was full of #OscarsSoWhiteTruths, but it was a later bit that really hit the issue on the head in a hilarious way.

Before the segment aired, Rock discussed how difficult it is for black actors to get notable roles. To prove his point, a montage with black actors inserted into Oscar-nominated movies was aired and quickly became his best joke of the night. Tracy Morgan, Whoopi Goldberg, Saturday Night Live‘s Leslie Jones, and Rock himself showed up in the hilarious parody.

With Jones taking place of the bear in The Revenant, Rock being the one stuck in space in The Martian, Goldberg telling Jennifer Lawrence to get her sh*t together in Joy, and Morgan doing drag for The Danish Girl, it’s one joke that didn’t fall short.

In Morgan’s words, “These Danishes is good girl.”

Lady Gaga’s song “The Survivor in Me” was nominated for Best Song for the documentary The Hunting Ground. She may have lost to Sam Smith, but her Oscars performance was epic.

The documentary – which features former FSU student Erica Kinsman – is a powerful film that discusses the issue of rape on college campuses across America.

Vice President Joe Biden introduced the pop singer before she performed the emotional song on a piano. But before handing over the spotlight, he asked the audience to take a pledge: “I will intervene in situations when consent has not or cannot be given. Let’s change the culture,” he added.

Gaga’s performance represented that pledge. In the final moments of the song, Gaga was joined on stage by survivors of sexual assault:

Reactions from the crowd were equally emotional.

The 88th Academy Awards were held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at 8:30 PM EST. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored the best films of 2015 by presenting awards in 24 categories.  Actor and comedian Chris Rock hosted the event for his second time, having previously hosted in 2005.

The big story this year is Leonardo DiCaprio’s pursuit of his first Academy Award victory. The picture Dicaprio is nominated for, The Revenant, received the most nominations with twelve total, with Mad Max: Fury Road coming in second with ten. For the second consecutive year, a film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu received the most nominations. As for the major categories, Best Picture and Best Director are virtually a toss up, but in the Best Actor and Best Actress categories, Leonardo Dicaprio and Brie Larson were heavily favored.

Best Actor: Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant

Leonardo DiCaprio: This is DiCaprio’s fourth nomination in the Best Actor category (fifth overall), having been previously nominated for The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Blood Diamond (2006), and The Aviator (2004). Dicaprio’s performance as Hugh Glass in The Revenant (2015) won him the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama. This is his first Academy Award win.

The Revenant synopsis: While exploring the uncharted wilderness in 1823, legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) sustains injuries from a brutal bear attack. When his hunting team leaves him for dead, Glass must utilize his survival skills to find a way back home to his beloved family. Grief-stricken and fueled by vengeance, Glass treks through the wintry terrain to track down John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy), the former confidant who betrayed and abandoned him.

Where you can watch The Revenant: Unfortunately, The Revenant is not available on DVD or on demand, but it’s 2016, so you can find it streaming online.

Best Actress: Brie Larson for Room

Brie Larson: For her performance as Joy “Ma” Newsome in the drama film Room, Larson had already won the BAFTA Award, Critic’s Choice Award, Golden Globe Award, and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress. This was Brie Larson’s first Academy Award nomination, and first win. Many are calling her the next Jennifer Lawrence.

Room synopsis: After being abducted seven years ago, a young woman is held captive in a sparsely furnished and cramped suburban garden shed along with her now-kindergarten-aged son. Repeatedly raped and without access to the outside world save for a rickety TV with spotty reception, she plots their escape from the monster who has imprisoned them.

Where you can watch RoomRoom is not available yet on DVD or on demeand. But, just like The Revenant, if you look hard enough, you can find it streaming.

The dankest of Leonardo DiCaprio memes are out in full force after the actor won his first Academy Award for his role in The Revenant. It’s been a long time coming for the man who’s been nominated six times for best actor, but he finally got the job done. Of course because of his enormously large catalogue of movies that he’s been in, the internet had a ton of content to pull from to make their memes.

Coming into the 2016 Oscars, Leonardo DiCaprio had a 73% of winning the award for Best Actor.

And to think–all he had to do was get raped by a bear to win the award.

Tomorrow isn’t February 30th. But today is February 29th. Think of it this way, if you are on salary, you don’t get paid for work today. And if this stupendous fact is causing you to lose chest hair from the easily foreseeable Leap-Year-Salaryless-Monday blues, let us ease you out of your misery with some funny memes, best jokes, and excruciatingly cute bunnies.

According to Google’s Doodle, The 29th of February only happens every four years. This is to keep our calendar in sync with the rotation of the Earth around the sun. Without Leap Day, we’d be out of sync by about six hours per year.

If you were born on Leap Day, well then, it’s finally time to gather your friends whom you haven’t seen for four years, and hope 400% of your wishes come true today.

And if you’re still upset over the salary thing, you’ve been paid extra for the past 3 years. It’s all about perspective.

Kevin Dorsey Leaked Video

Kevin Dorsey, a men’s basketball player at the University of Minnesota, accidentally leaked a video onto Twitter where he’s “sleeping” with another woman and a man. The term for what we’re talking about is an Eiffel Tower.

Moments after he uploaded the video, Kevin must have realized his mistake because he then deleted his entire Twitter account.

The huge gaff was caught by Minnesota Golden Gophers fans who then wrote a description of the clip on their message board.

Kevin Dorsey Message Board

Here’s the writeup from Twin Cities:

The Gophers announced that leading scorer Nate Mason, Dupree McBrayer and Kevin Dorsey will be suspended for Sunday night’s game at Illinois for violating team rules.

“With the privilege of being a member of the University of Minnesota basketball program there are expectations and standards to which we hold our student-athletes accountable, and they have failed to do so,” Gophers coach Richard Pitino said in a statement Sunday.

Mason, who averages 13.8 points and 4.5 assists per game, is the team’s sophomore starting point guard. McBrayer, a starting freshman guard, averages 5.8 points, 2.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds. Dorsey, a freshman point guard, was suspended for academic reasons for an exhibition game in November. He averages 6.8 points and 2.3 rebounds off the bench.

Pitino was left with only six scholarship players for the game, including no guards. His starting lineup consists of walk-on Stephon Sharp at point guard, Ahmad Gilbert, Charles Buggs, Jordan Murphy and Joey King. Gilbert, Buggs, Murphy and King are all forwards.

Yesterday the University of Minnesota‘s Golden Gophers basketball team announced that three key players – Nate Mason, Kevin Dorsey, and Dupree McBrayer – were being suspending for violating team rules. At the time, few details were known and Coach Richard Pitino didn’t provide much of an explanation, but now rumors of an alleged sex tape have the school reeling.

So what’s actually going on here? Below, everything you need to know.

Who is Kevin Dorsey?

Kevin Dorsey is one of the main scorers on the University of Minnesota’s men’s basketball team, the Golden Gophers. Along with two other key members (Nate Mason and Dupree McBrayer), Dorsey was suspended from playing a game against Illinois on Sunday. Few details were initially revealed, but the school did release a brief, official statement .

What happened to Kevin Dorsey?

Now new details have surfaced. The suspension is allegedly due in part to freshman player Kevin Dorsey tweeting out multiple sex videos that featured himself and a few other men having sex with a girl on camera. Students have been talking about the videos since Friday night on on the Gopher Hole forum.
To counteract his stupidity, Dorsey quickly deleted the videos and has since gotten rid of his Twitter account.

One person who watched the explicit videos shared what was on them:

“I saw both of the videos. I apologize for being graphic but here it what I saw. In the two videos, two guys were double teaming a girl from the front and behind. In the second video, there was a different girl and Dorsey was taking the front while the other guy was doing her from behind. You could clearly see his face although he is the only one that I could see. Both videos were extremely graphic.”

Real smooth, Dorsey.

Chris Rock killed it last night while hosting the 2016 Oscars by consisting calling out just how white the Oscars (and majority of Hollywood) is. But when he brought sorority girls into the argument, they were pretty pissed.

Here’s what he said:

Is Hollywood racist? You’re damn right Hollywood’s racist. But it isn’t the racist you’ve grown accustomed to. Hollywood is sorority racist. It’s like, “We like you, Rhonda, but you’re not a Kappa.” That’s how Hollywood is.

You can imagine how quickly Twitter exploded with hate from fellow sorority sisters. Here’s a taste:

Donald Trump rallies promise three things: 1. Bigotry coming out of the woodwork, 2. Really bad hats, and 3. A pompous speech concerning how great America will be if this bozo wins the election. Each are pretty upsetting, but now Mr. Trump can add another thing to the list: ratchet fight videos.

During a Trump rally earlier today in Radford, Virginia, a serious fight between a Secret Service agent and a journalist broke out in front of a massive crowd, right when a rally interrupted the day’s political festivities.

Details on how the fight came to be are scarce, but social media has already shed light on the actual fight:

Instagram Photo

According to CNN, the photo journalist said a Secret Service agent choked him and slammed him to the ground as he tried to leave a media pen at the event. The photographer was allegedly Time magazine’s Chris Morris, who elaborated shortly after the incident became publicized.

“I’m not pressing charges,” Morris said Monday. “I stepped 18 inches out of the pen and he grabbed me by the neck and started choking me and then he slammed me to the ground.”

The Secret Service agent has yet to respond.

Kevin Dorsey, Nate Mason, and Dupree McBrayer are three key players on the University of Minnesota’s men’s basketball team and they’re currently in deep sh*t.

The three students were suspended from an Illinois game for reasons unknown. A brief statement was released with little information attached to it: The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team announced that Kevin Dorsey, Nate Mason and Dupree McBrayer will not play Sunday night at Illinois after violating team rules. With the privilege of being a member of the University of Minnesota basketball program there are expectations and standards to which we hold our student-athletes accountable, and they have failed to do so.”

After that hit social media, students started speculating, and rumors of a sex tape surfaced. Except they weren’t exactly rumors; multiple students had allegedly seen it firsthand.

According to a school forum, Dorsey posted two graphic videos of himself engaged in threesomes with other men. The sex tapes were up for about half an hour before being deleted, followed by taking down his entire account. However, there’s been no word on if Gophers’ leading scorers Nate Mason and Dupree McBrayer were also suspended in relation to these videos.

Girls are complicated, and navigating the rejection-ridden waters of the dating pool is f*cking traumatizing. But every Match begins with the right app. These are the best 5 dating apps to get your spring (aka online dating season) on track.

Take a look.

1. OkCupid

best dating app

OK Cupid

OkCupid‘s userbase is massive. But instead of sitting back and bragging about it, OKC keeps refining and adding on features. The redesigned profile view brings the best info on your matches right to the top, match percentages based on things like lifestyle, religion and ethics. You also get Instagram integration. All this is in addition to OkCupid’s messaging tools, personality quizzes and other old favorites. A premium subscription adds other features, such as refined search tools and the ability to see users who have liked you.

2. Tinder

best dating app

Tinder

Tinder encourages you to make shallow, snap judgments about a girl, but a lasting relationship can actually be a thing – if you try hard enough. You create a simple profile with a handful of photos and a few sentences about yourself, then throw yourself at the Internet’s mercy. The app displays singles in your area. If you like one, swipe the photo to the right; otherwise, swipe to the left. If you both swipe right, you can send messages and set something up. New features include GIF messaging, uploading profile photos from your phone and the ability to ‘like’ chat messages.

3. Hinge

best dating app

Hinge

Hinge cuts the clutter and the creeps by making sure to only introduce you to people that you share mutual Facebook friends with. You log in via Facebook account, enter preferences, sexual orientation, location and age. Every day at noon, the app supplies you with a LOT of matches.

4. Coffee Meets Bagel

best dating app

Coffee Meets Bagel

Aiming for quality over quantity, Coffee Meets Bagel brings you a single match very day: a curated match that shares mutual Facebook friends. You then have 24 hours to decide whether it’s a “Yay” or “Nay” (with the system learning your preferences as you go). If you both express interest, CMB then brings you together in a private chatroom where you can get to know each other or plan a date.

5. Hitch

best dating app

Hitch

Once you log in with your Facebook account, you can ask your friend to introduce you and your match to an anonymous chatroom. All you get is the age and gender of your match, as well as the mutual friend that matched you, along with a short message. If you hit it off in the chat, you can send a Reveal Request to find out more about your match.
