LeSean McCoy, former Eagles player and current Buffalo Bills running back, is currently under investigation after allegedly assaulting two off-duty cops in Philadelphia. Both were seriously injured.
According to ABC, Philadelphia police haven’t formally identified McCoy as a suspect, but issues a statement saying four suspects were involved and are “reported to be members of the National Football League.”
The incident allegedly occurred around 2:45 a.m. Sunday at the Recess Lounge located at 125 South 2nd Street in Old City. Apparently an argument broke out over a bottle of champagne at a local club.
A source gave Action News more details, saying the police officers had ordered multiple bottles of champagne and, according to witness accounts, one of the men with McCoy grabbed a bottle out of one of the cop’s hands.
That led to an argument, police said, and one of the police officers was punched and knocked to the ground.
While on the ground, the first officer claims he was was punched, kicked and stomped on all over his body and head several times. The second officer went to break up the fight – along with several other security guards – and the suspects were thrown out. The officer was admitted to a local hospital where he received stitches over his right eye. He is also being treated for a possible skull fracture.
The first officer was able to drive himself to the hospital, but was found to be suffering from broken ribs, a broken nose, a laceration to his right eye and a sprained thumb.
According to the local police, surveillance video showed the ejection from the club, but there is no video of the actual incident.
The Buffalo Bills have since issued the following statement: “We are aware of the reports regarding LeSean McCoy and are in the process of gathering more information. We will not provide any further comment at this time.”
