This Christmas, the NYPD showed just how great they really are. The men in blue have caught some unwarranted heat the last couple years, and it’s videos like these that remind you that the policemen of this country are some of the best human beings we have.

On Christmas Eve, Neighborhood Coordination Officers Salley and Colon of the 47 Precinct decided to brighten up the day for a few Bronx residents. They filled up the back of their car with toys for girls and boys, and went out to deliver them in an unconventional method. The Officers waited till they saw cars with children, pulled the drivers over and delivered gifts to the delighted kids and the surprised parents.

“We just wanted to make some people smile, see if we can brighten their day,” said Officer Salley. “This means a lot to me to be able to do that, since I grew up in this neighborhood.”

All the feels, yo. Merry Christmas NYPD, and thank you.

Rapper French Montana’s boss P. Diddy gave Frenchy a fat $1 million bonus for the holidays. But French had a much better idea.

The rapper is signed to the star’s Bad Boy Records label, and he was given an incredible gift as a reward for a year of hard work. However, rather than keep the gift, he decided to donate it to those in need as he chose to support those in need over Christmas rather than keep the money for himself.

He posted a picture to Instagram with with Diddy – real name Sean Combs – co-workers and a giant check, writing: “Shout out to @iamdiddy for that million dollar gift bonus #happyholidays ”

TMZ has claimed that the star has chosen to donate the money to a charity in the Bronx – which he started to aid schools and young children – as he looks to help those who need it most. What a good f*ckin’ guy. I’m offically a French Montana fan

It’s the most wonderful time of year, right? Or so they say. I love Christmas just as much as the next person, but now that we’re technically adults, it’s lost a bit of its magic. Long gone are the Christmas Eves spent tracking where Santa was around the world, and instead we’ve traded those moments in for debt, debt, and more debt.

Dear Santa, if you could give me financial security, a sense of purpose, a satisfying sex life, and maybe throw in a bottle of wine, that’d be great. Until then, here’s why we can relax for the next 364 days:

Gentlemen, start hocking up some loogies – a spit test could determine how long you’re going to make it on this Earth.

Researchers have found that levels of a certain antibody fall when you’re closer to heading six feet under, which is equally cool and terrifying. God damn you science!

According to the Daily Mail, it all started in 1995 when scientists took samples from 639 adults and tracked them down over 19 years later.

They found that the levels of secretory immunoglobin A (IgA) fell the nearer the person got to death.

Antibodies are used by the body to fight infection and are secreted by white blood cells.

The researchers said the chemical appears to be a marker of mortality risk, and is much less invasive than blood sampling.

Testing levels of IgA could be used as way of looking at overall health by professionals as part of a general check-up.

The research was published in the journal PLOS One, but Dr. Anna Phillips – from the University of Birmingham – explains that there are a number of factors that can lead to the production of antibodies and how their levels are maintained. AKA if your levels of IgA are off, it doesn’t automatically mean you should call in a priest to be read your last rites.

“There are some that we have no control over, such as age, heritability or illness, but our general state of health can also affect their levels; stress, diet, exercise, alcohol and smoking can all influence those levels,” explains Phillips. Quite how saliva samples could be used in check-ups remains to be seen, as we need to better understand what secretion rate would be considered cause for concern – what we call the protective level. We could certainly say that, if found to be extremely low, it would be a useful early indicator of risk.”

Questionnaires have also been developed to determine a person’s longevity, but based on what I did that week (how many times was I blackout drunk and gorging on burgers?), the result is always changing.

The college football playoff is about to kick off for the second year on New Year’s Eve with the Orange Bowl and the Cotton Bowl being used as the semifinal sites this season. However, the fact that the games are on New Year’s Eve instead of New Year’s Day has caused some confusion among casual fans who believed that the semifinals would also be played on January 1. This is due to agreements with certain bowl games and that their spots on New Year’s Day can’t be changed.

The Rose Bowl is locked into the January 1 spot at 5 p.m. Eastern time while the Sugar Bowl is locked into the 8:30 p.m. slot. When those two bowl games aren’t in the semifinal rotation, the playoff will never be played on New Year’s Day. Next season’s semifinals will also be played on New Year’s Eve but instead of it being on a Thursday like it is this year, December 31 is a Saturday which allows more fans to see the games. This season’s first semifinal at the Orange Bowl begins at 1 p.m. Pacific time when many people will still be working.

The semifinals will be on New Year’s Eve after the 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025 seasons as well unless there is a major change in the playoff structure with the only playoff semifinals being on New Year’s Day itself being after the 2017, 2020 and 2023 seasons because the Rose and Sugar Bowls are the semifinal games in those seasons.  College football needs to examine whether or not the idea of having semifinal games played during the week in the middle of the afternoon in some parts of the country is a good solution long-term. This year will be a huge test in terms of TV ratings for the games as fans decide between watching the semifinals and going out to celebrate the New Year arriving.

Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian in history, has plans to coach at Arizona State University during the 2016-2017 season following his retirement. The new gig will follow the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

The 30-year-old swimmer will be a volunteer assistant, and originally moved to Arizona to train with current head coach Bob Bowman.

Bowman left his last job with the North Baltimore Aquatic Club to help transform ASU into a vigorous swim competitor, and according to AZ Central, “has been an unqualified success in the first four months.”

In retrospect, the fact that Phelps has since committed to the team was inevitable.

His first comeback swim meet was at a 2014 Grand Prix in Mesa. He had a 45-day rehab stint at The Meadows treatment center in Wickenburg, and his first meet back from a six-month USA Swimming suspension again was in Mesa.

It was at that Arena Grand Prix meet in April that Bowman first brought up the idea of taking the ASU job.

“I said, ‘If you go, I’ll go,’ ” Phelps told Bowman with one request that trainer Keenan Robinson also make the move from North Baltimore Aquatics. “I didn’t want to swim for anybody else to finish my career, and I don’t want to work with another trainer. Without the help of those two, I wouldn’t be able to be where I am today.”

The two have worked together for roughly two decades, in which Phelps won 22 metals, including 18 gold, under Bowman’s mentorship.

While ASU has a lot to offer on its own – like a really sexy Undie Run and killer Halloween parties – Phelps’ presence is guaranteed to recruit more students to the university. Is there anyone out there who wouldn’t want hands-on training experience with an Olympic gold medalist?

That’s what we thought.

Tate Ramsden, a Dartmouth College member of the Class of 2017 and Beta Alpha Omega fraternity brother, died on Saturday while on vacation with his family in Sarasota, Florida.

Tate, a member of the swimming and diving team team, died while swimming in the outdoor pool of the YMCA Selby Aquatic Center at approximately 2:00 p.m. The details of his death are unknown at this time, but it’s certainly uncommon for a member of the swim team in good health to die in the water in the afternoon.

Update: According to CBS Miami, here’s how it happened:

“Tate had been swimming laps in the pool for some time and I was told he had swam approximately 4,000 yards before practicing his underwater swimming techniques,” Officer Douglas Stidham wrote in the report. “It is believed he was likely attempting to complete a ‘100’ which is four laps across the pool without surfacing for air.”

At some point, Ramsden’s sister and cousin noticed that he was not moving underwater, and they alerted lifeguards who removed him from the pool, Stidham wrote.”

In addition to his swimming accomplishments, Tate was a fantastic student. He was an All American, member of the Cum Laude Society, a Merit Scholar and hoped to pursue a career in finance.

The Dartmouth College community is currently in mourning, but many students may not know the news since they’ve been away from school for so long and don’t return until after New Year’s.

We have been in touch with Tate’s family to share our deepest sympathies with them at this time of heartbreaking loss. Tate was a member of the men’s swimming and diving team and a brother in Beta Alpha Omega fraternity.

Tate’s family is planning a memorial service, which will take place next weekend in his hometown of Nashville, Tenn.

I urge students, faculty, and staff who would like to speak to a counselor on their own behalf or out of concern for someone else to contact our Safety and Security office at (603) 646-4000 at any hour. Please do not hesitate to seek help during this time of grief.

There is one final week left in the NFL season and there are still several things that need to be figured out before the playoffs begin on January 9. Here is what is known and what still needs to be decided going into Week 16’s Monday Night game and it gets very confusing to say the least especially in the case of the Indianapolis Colts.

In the AFC, the New England Patriots have clinched the AFC East and have a first-round bye. They need a win next week or a Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos loss to clinch homefield advantage through the playoff. Cincinnati can cinch homefield with wins in their final two games and a New England loss. They will get a bye in the first round with a win in either one of their final two games or a win next week plus a Denver Broncos loss.

Denver has a similar scenario with needing two wins plus a New England loss and can clinch a first-round bye with two wins or a Week 16 win, a Cincinnati Week 17 loss and a Kansas City Chiefs loss. It is a still possible that the Broncos miss the playoffs entirely if they lose their final two games but can clinch the AFC West with a win in either of their final two games  and a Kansas City loss. A playoff berth is just a win away or a Pittsburgh Steelers loss away.

The Houston Texans can clinch the AFC South with a win by the Bengals in Week 16 or a Houston win itself in Week 17 or a loss by the Colts. They can also clinch the strength of victory over Indianapolis if Cincinnati wins, the New York Jets win, the New Orleans Saints win along with losses by the Broncos and Miami Dolphins. The strength of schedule can be clinched with a Kansas City win or a Pittsburgh loss. That’s not the most confusing clinching scenario.

The Colts need the doomsday scenario to play out to clinch the division. All of the following things must happen…..Indianapolis wins in Week 17, Cincinnati loses their final two games, Denver wins their final two games, the Jets, Saints and Chiefs lose and the Dolphins and Steelers win. Confused, yet?

The Chiefs clinch the AFC West with a win and a Denver loss or two Denver losses if Kansas City loses in Week 17 themselves. The Jets clinch a playoff berth with a win or a Pittsburgh loss or if Denver loses their final two games while the Steelers clinch with a win plus a Jets loss or a win and the Broncos losing their final two games.

The NFC is a much clearer picture with all six playoff spots already clinched. It’s just a matter of what seeds the teams will be. The Carolina Panthers have won the NFC South and have a first-round bye and can clinch homefield throughout with a win or an Arizona Cardinals loss. The Cardinals get homefield advantage if they win and the Panthers lose.

The winner of the Green Bay Packers-Minnesota Vikings game will win the NFC North and be locked into the No. 3 seed. Green Bay can also win the division if that game ends in a tie. The Washington Redskins are locked into the No. 4 seed while the Seattle Seahawks are also in the playoffs in the NFC. The Packers-Vikings loser will be the other wild card team along with Seattle.

A German man was declared dead on Christmas Day after being hit in the head with a flying piece of condom machine that he and his two friends tried to rob with explosives. According to The Guardian:

The two men told hospital officials that their friend had fallen down the stairs, injuring his head. Suspicious of their story, the officials called the police.

During questioning, police said, one of them admitted that the three had blown up the condom machine, and that their fellow conspirator was hit in the head by metal as he tried to take cover.

Adding insult to injury, because the explosion was large enough to send a chunk of debris into a man’s skull, neither the condoms nor the money were retrieved by the would-be robbers. The two remaining men were arrested and then later released into custody.
