When any college football fan sees the Military Bowl pop up on the screen, it is safe to think that a military team is going to be playing in the game. This season will be no different as the 10-2 Navy Midshipmen face the 8-4 Pittsburgh Panthers. The biggest difference this season though is that Navy has a player that garnered a ton of Heisman Trophy consideration in Keenan Reynolds. Reynolds finished fifth in the voting but still had a season to remember.

Navy got their tenth win of the year with a 21-17 win over Army to end the regular season on December 12 and this will be a true home game even though it is a bowl game. Reynolds passed for 1,077 yards and seven touchdowns while also rushing for 1,229 yards and 21 touchdowns. He is a true dual-threat quarterback that can hurt teams with not just his arm but his legs. When Reynolds does throw, it is the way of Jamir Tillman who had 27 catches for 570 yards and five touchdowns. If the Midshipmen get Reynolds going, it’s going to be very hard to stop them all afternoon long.

Pittsburgh saw their two-game winning streak snapped during a 29-24 loss to Miami. Nathan Peterman has played very well at quarterback this season with 2,150 passing yards, 19 touchdowns and five interceptions and loves looking for Tyler Boyd. Boyd has 85 catches for 873 yards and six touchdowns so far this season. Qadree Ollison has balanced out the Panthers offense with 1,048 rushing yards and ten touchdowns. Pittsburgh only allows 126.1 yards per game rushing but with Reynolds, that could be in serious jeopardy. The Panthers need to be up for the challenge.

It is a light day of bowl games on December 28 with just two going on but the Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit produces a very interesting matchup that fans in the Midwest especially may get into. The 7-5 Central Michigan Chippewas face the 5-7 Minnesota Golden Gophers in this battle between the MAC and the Big Ten. The records aren’t something to look too hard at especially for a Minnesota team that shouldn’t even be in the postseason with their losing record.

Central Michigan won their final two games of the regular season including a 35-28 win over Eastern Michigan to end the regular season. Cooper Rush threw for 3,703 yards, 25 touchdowns and ten interceptions during the regular season and had a favorite target in Jesse Kroll. Kroll had 59 catches for 856 yards and four touchdowns in the pass game. The run game wasn’t a favorite for the Chippewas as Martez Walker led the team in rushing with just 373 yards. It’s a short trip for the fans of Central Michigan to Detroit and they will be out in force for their team in this one.

Minnesota struggled all season long and lost 31-21 to Wisconsin to end their regular season. Mitch Leidner passed for 2,478 yards, 13 touchdowns and ten interceptions this year and seemed to develop a connection with KJ Maye in the process. Maye had 65 catches for 706 yards and four touchdowns. Shannon Brooks finished the regular season with 644 rushing yards and seven touchdowns to lead the team. The Gophers are averaging 22.6 points a game but are giving up 26.1 points. That’s not a good formula especially against a tough defensive team in Central Michigan.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is taking over the universe, and that includes China. No big surprise there. Hollywood has kind of become obsessed with breaking into that big Chinese market, and has been sure to add in Chinese angles to movies like Pacific Rim and Iron Man 3.

Jimmy Fallon had Channing Tatum and Star Wars’ own John Boyega. We’re pretty sure Colbert never even got a Force Awakens cast member on the show. Well, he’s a good sport…

Star Wars: The Force Awakens had a rough start at Hollywood’s Arclight Cinemas after the projector broke down during one of the late-night 3D screenings. That was enough to freak out the audience — and then the movie started back with a big gap, which really had the crowd losing their collective mind.

The good news is that the resulting footage is probably the only bootleg Star Wars: The Force Awakens video that will stay up on the internet this week. That includes a glimpse at Maz Kanata, too It’s only a VERY MINOR SPOILER to note that’s the character played by Lupita Nyong’o under a lot of CGI makeup. Whoot, there she is. Saturday Night Live is getting infiltrated by Ted Cruz in some Iowa markets tonight — as the Presidential candidate buys himself air time with his own Christmas parody commercial.

This video probably won’t fool anyone, though. “Cruz Christmas Classics” is too clever to have come out of the SNL bullpen. Also, it goes after some hard targets that Lorne Michaels would never allow the SNL writers to even bring up during a coffee break. Cruz sure manages to match the SNL production budget, though. The idea was probably pitched as a video Christmas card to the campaign’s supporters — which, you know, just happens to slip into a popular comedy show.

It’s not like the SNL staff can complain, anyway. They handed over a big chunk of the SNL season opener to Hillary Clinton in an attempt to make her likable. Cruz is just buying his way into some equal time. Take a look for yourself and decide if it’s the cause of good comedy…

Saturday Night Live had Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosting to celebrate Christmas and to try to get some excitement going for Sisters, which kind of got swamped by a certain sci-fi saga at the box-office over the weekend. We’re thinking that some people in Iowa thought Ted Cruz swamped the SNL writers for the night’s funniest sketch, too. But for the more predictable highlight, we got dueling Hillary Clintons courtesy of Kate McKinnon and Amy, plus Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin crammed in there because the unexpected isn’t exactly what SNL is about nowadays.

(Also expectedly, there was minimal Star Wars: The Force Awakens action, but that’ll be fixed when Adam Driver hosts the first SNL of 2016 on January 16 — which will mean enough time has passed for massive Force Awakens spoilers.)

Anyway, home viewers probably sat down in anticipation of Hillary meeting the Hillary of Christmas Past to discuss how things went wrong back in the 2008 election. They probably anticipated the sketch as a highlight of the show, too, and they weren’t wrong. Meanwhile, Amy and Tina keep warming up for hosting the Oscars…

Star Wars: The Force Awakens added up to a total cost of $350 million when you add in marketing costs (and Harrison Ford reportedly took up a big part of that budget, too). That’s all a moot point, though, because the return of the Star Wars franchise looks set to wrap up the weekend with an estimated $517 million in worldwide ticket sales. That’s not quite as much money as Jurassic World made over its summer opening, but we’re not sure the dinosaurs have won yet.

Yeah, it’s all profit from here — and “here” probably means a universe of merchandising and an extended run of sitting at top of the box-office. The Force Awakens now has the officially largest opening weekend in North America, with the country shelling out $238 million in ticket sales. That’s according to Disney, but we’re hearing that figure is getting lowballed for a more triumphant announcement on Monday.

No need for false modesty, though. The previous record holder was The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which pulled in $87.5 million despite being kind of boring. (Avatar had the record previously, with $85 million.) But if Disney is lowballing the number now, then there’s a good chance that a big Monday announcement could bump Jurassic World to#2 for the best all-time worldwide opening. A couple of Harry Potter movies are also about to be bumped down the line.

Speaking of bumped, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip beat out Sisters for second place, with about $14 million to the more adult comedy’s $13 million.

The latest entry also set records in the UK, Germany, Australia, and lots of other places. The movie doesn’t even open in China until early January — although Stephen Colbert is helping to build awareness for that big premiere. In further surprising news, 58 percent of the Force audience in America was male. We thought that percentage would be highter. Nostalgia was also rocking the house, with 63% of the audience over the age of 26. Man, we can’t wait to see the numbers once people find out Star Wars: The Force Awakens is fun for kids, too.
