SNL Highlight: ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Auditions [VIDEO]

Saturday Night Live SNL Star Wars Auditions Video

Saturday Night Live had Matthew McConaughey hosting last night, and he was pretty cool. The monologue was painful, but McConaughey was game to do all kinds of fun things. Sadly, he sat out the cheap-but-instant highlight (and free ad space) of J.J. Abrams introducing the Star Wars: The Force Awakens screen tests.

SNL is mostly a showcase for celebrity impersonations nowadays, so the audition schtick is always useful. Also, the clapboard announces who the performer is impersonating. That’s helpful, given the quality of some of the impersonations.

And there were, of course, a few real celebs stepping in front of the camera—including Force cast members, and Emma Stone making a self-deprecating joke that referred to a forgotten scandal about a forgotten movie. That’s kind of weird, but it’s still a highlight…

Rebecca Ferguson Hottest Photos

Originally from Sweden, the gorgeous and talented Rebecca Ferguson began her quest towards fame shortly after graduating high school by attending the Adolf Fredrik’s Music School in Stockholm. But although music may have been her focus, she just obviously couldn’t resist the big screen lime light! Which is by no means a complaint; this woman’s hotness is far too incredible to not be showcased in living color!

Rebecca made her acting debut back in 1999 when she landed herself a role on the Swedish drama TV series Nya tider. But Rebecca’s fame obviously did not stop there, she went on to appear in a number of TV series and was eventually cast into the role of Elizabeth on the hit British TV series The White Queen, which in turn assisted her in earning a golden globe nomination for her impeccable acting talents.

But let’s be real here, this gorgeous actresses hype didn’t quite make it to the US until she showed off her skills (and obviously her hotness too!) in the 2015 action adventure thriller  Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. To put it simply, we’ve been hooked on Rebecca Ferguson ever since!

Why? Go ahead and see for yourself by checking out Rebecca Ferguson’s hottest photos on the internet in the gallery below!

Dog Running on Prosthetic Legs Video

The fine folks at Underbite Unite have been chronicling the tales of Daisy the Underdog with the Underbite for a while—and we’re pretty cynical and snarky, but not so cynical and snarky that we’re not really happy at the sight of Daisy being really happy running around on her legs for the first time.

Underbite Unite also has the full story on how it’s been kind of tough for Daisy to adjust to her first pair of legs, which look like this…

Yeah, it took a while–but, damn, now Daisy is Usain Bolting all over the place. We know this isn’t the hippest post that you’ll see today, but it’s still pretty damn cool. Let’s just hope that nobody starts a fund to fix Daisy’s teeth…

Star Wars Force Awakens Nien Nunb Trailer

The new TV spot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has something really cool to offer—and we just don’t mean more shots of BB-8, although we’re pretty sure that some of this BB-8 footage is new. Also, we’re reminded more than ever that John Boyega looks set to be the star of this film. That’s fine with us, since we’ve been Boyega fans since Attack the Block back in 2011.

But the real big deal is a seeming appearance by Nien Nunb, which looks to be the film’s first Lando Calrissian connection. Everybody knows, of course, that Return of the Jedi referenced Nien Nunb as the co-pilot back when Billy Dee Williams was flying the Millennium Falcon around during the Battle of Endor. He’s the guy who looks like a fish in the video below, and as also referred to on episodes of Family Guy and The Venture Brothers.

To be fair, Nien Nunb is a Sullustan. Those types could all look alike. Not to sound racist or speciesist. We’re just saying there’s a possibility—especially since Nien Nunb was originally played by a puppet, so it’s not like they had to find somebody who played the original role.

There’s no denying, however, that these battle sequences in the television spots are providing all kinds of opportunities for speculation about the course of the plot. Nien Nunb, however, is a fun surprise…

Gigi Hadid

The 2015 American Music Awards are happening at the Microsoft Theater, and the red carpet has already served up some solid-gold fashion hits. Gigi Hadid (above) seems to have really gone out of her way to make it into the papers tomorrow, but you’ll see that Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner also put out a fine effort.  [photo: Jason Merritt/Getty]

Selena Gomez also kooks great tonight, despite us having a good guess about who she’ll hook up with after the show. Ciara isn’t wasting a chance to get (and show off) some exposure, and Hannah Davis is looking stunning in her own victory lap over landing Derek Jeter.

We’re always happy to see Ashley Benson and Nina Dobrev running around, and Julianne Hough has also put out a surprisingly fine display. Hailee Steinfeld is a pleasant surprise, too. We keep forgetting that she’s all grown up.

We’ve also added Carrie Underwood and Danica McKellar as our token MILFs. We left out a few gals who just seemed too creepy—but not as creepy as Justin Bieber showing up in a Nirvana t-shirt that his stylist chose as part of his hip new look. We guess they couldn’t find a pre-faded AC/DC shirt in time. But why dwell on that when you can dwell on the best of the 2015 American Music Awards red carpet…

Kent State Wants to be America’s Healthiest University

In her first State of the University speech, the president of Kent State University announced her aspirations to make the school the healthiest one in America.

President Beverly Warren has plans to provide students with more “healthy, nonprocessed foods,” free access to fitness facilities and health insurance discounts for students participating in health programs.

Warren  believes that because of the school’s resources and experts, this should be relatively easy and fully attainable.

While set goals have yet to be announced, Warren encouraged the community to start thinking healthier. When thinking about our Miss COED 2016 contestant from Kent State, we’re pretty stoked to see the results on campus.

She’s a fitness model… and we’re really into it.

Chris Barnes Arrest Video Photos

During this weekend’s Ole Miss vs. LSU football game, things got a little out of hand on the field and in the stands. Police arrested a man, Chris Barnes, who they thought was involved in an altercation. Surprise, surprise, both Chris and his wife Holly say that he’s innocent.

Even worse, during the arrest, Holly Barnes alleges that they beat his face in unnecessarily. Check out the video she posted to her Facebook.

Here’s the description on the video that outlines her side of the story:

“My husband, a two time Veteran of the US Army National Guard, was wrongfully assaulted on campus during the Ole Miss vs LSU game by a POLICE OFFICER. He was hit twice in the face and then arrested. THEY DID NOT GIVE HIM MEDICAL ATTENTION. Four hours later once he posted bail, he asked his friends to take him to the ER. He was diagnosed with a concussion, fractures to his orbital wall and maxillary sinus and contusions to the tissues of his eyes. This all stemmed because the officers thought he did something that someone a few rows up did and blamed him and his friends. I’m disappointed in the University police department and the Oxford police department for letting this happen. YOU ARE NOT ABOVE THE LAW. THIS IS NOT OK. Please help us get justice by calling out this police officer! I want his NAME AND BADGE!”

She also posted this video of the arrest. Things get hairy at around 40 seconds in:

So was Barnes deserving of the arrest? There are conflicting reports.

The University of Mississippi Police Department is aware of the video of an incident taking place at the Ole Miss-LSU football game. The officers involved are not officers with the University Police Department, but are certified officers from other jurisdictions hired to work security at home football games. The University of Mississippi Police Department takes this situation seriously, and is currently investigating the incident. We encourage anyone that witnessed the event to contact the department at 662-915-7234 or email us at upd@olemiss.edu.

Do the Wisconsin Badgers have the worst fans in the Big 12? That’s what some people are starting to think after the student section decided it’d be a good idea to pelt their own Wisconsin Badgers cheerleaders and mascot with a bunch of snowballs. What are the chances it just a misunderstanding? Maybe the students taking part in the snowball fight just had stronger arms than they thought?

Porn Feeds Sex Addiction, According to New Study (Thanks For Nothing Science)

Despite what everyone has to say about it – including myself – sex addiction is a real thing. It’s not just some excuse you use when your wife catches you in bed with the nanny (sorry, Gavin Rossdale); it’s a legitimate sexual disorder that can seriously ruin your life. Or make it better, if you’re a really horny optimist.

But according to a new study, if you do suffer from the disorder, you shouldn’t be catching any late night porno (or any porno at all). Is this news? We don’t think so, but apparently it was a big enough question for some that researchers had to construct a whole study around it to find out for sure.

Led by Dr. Valerie Voon from Cambridge University, the study consisted of 62 men, 22 of which were diagnosed with sex addiction. According to Voon, “We can all relate in some way to searching for novel stimuli online – it could be flitting from one news website to another, or jumping from Facebook to Amazon to YouTube and on. For people who show compulsive sexual behavior, though, this becomes a pattern of behavior beyond their control, focused on pornographic images.”

She continued with, “It’s not clear what triggers sex addiction in the first place and it is likely that some people are more pre-disposed to the addiction than others, but the seemingly endless supply of novel sexual images available online helps feed their addiction, making it more and more difficult to escape.”

Participants were shown a series of images featuring naked and clothed women, all posing next to furniture. According to BT, “They were then shown another set of image pairs, some of which were familiar and some new, and asked to choose a picture “to win £1″. There was a 50/50 chance of picking the right image and winning the prize… Sex addicts – but not volunteers who were not addicted to sex – were more likely to choose novel over familiar sexual images, the researchers found.”

In a second study, participants underwent brain scans while being shown a series of images featuring women in the flesh, a coin, or a neutral grey box. This is where it got interesting.

When the sex addicts viewed the same sexual image over and over again, they experienced a greater reduction of activity in the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex, a brain region known to be involved in anticipating rewards.

This was consistent with the “habituation” that occurs when an addict finds the same stimulus less and less rewarding.

The finding suggests that to prevent this happening a sex addict would need to seek out a constant supply of new images, said the authors.

So the sex addict is trying to keep it up (literally) with a fresh bout of pornographic images… makes sense! Why is this groundbreaking?!

Thanks for nothing, science.

University of Kansas Professor Placed on Leave After Using Racial Slur in Class

University of Kansas Racist
University of Kansas professor Andrea Quenette was placed on leave after using a racial slur during a class discussion.

The 33-year-old white assistant communication studies professor was recently told that five students had filed discrimination complaints against her. In turn, Quenette requested a leave of absence, which the university granted. She will have to remain off-campus until the investigation is complete.

The story goes like this: on November 12, Quenette allegedly led a class discussion on how the university should address racial issues. Like Missouri, KU’s racial tensions have been building, with several student senate leaders stepping down and protesters demanding to their marginalized voices be heard.

According to FOX News,

She said she pointed out that racist incidents on other campuses, including the University of Missouri’s Columbia campus, have been very visible, and used the slur when comparing the University of Kansas to the other incidents. Quenette said she could have apologized “in the moment” if anyone had responded, but no one did, so she continued the discussion.

But Amy Schumacher, a first-year doctoral student who was in the class of nine white students and one black student, said most “just shut down” after Quenette’s using the slur. Schumacher said she believes Quenette “actively violated policies” during the discussion, hurt students’ feelings — including the one black student, who left “devastated” — and has a previous history of being unsympathetic to students.

Several people immediately took to social media to address the situation.

Quenette’s husband is also taking a stand with his GoFundMe campaign, an attempt to raise money for his wife’s legal fees.

Several students even revealed that they were afraid to return to class and have the allegedly racist teacher in charge of their grades. “I don’t think it will be a safe environment for me,” student Jyleesa Hampton told the student paper when asked about teaching.

However, it doesn’t look like Quenette is backing down anytime soon. “I didn’t intend to offend anyone,” she said. “I didn’t intend to hurt anyone. I didn’t direct my words at any individual or group of people.”

So what do you think? Should she be fired? Tell us in the comments below.

Pro-ISIS Message Written On Rock At Youngstown State University

Youngstown State ISIS Photos

A rock at Youngstown State University was painted with pro-ISIS messages over the weekend. Quotes like “We Are Coming” “France Deserves Destruction” and “YSU Supports ISIS” were seen on the rock. You can also see ISIS graffiti painted on the garbage can next to the rock.

The school has since painted over the graffiti with white paint, a move that some students aren’t happy about.

Youngstown State University addressed the issue on Facebook:

Youngstown State University Facebook Post

So the question is: if you’re a Youngstown student right now, how scared should you be? Not at all. This was probably just a prank from some idiot who’ll be facing criminal charges once they’re found out, but I highly doubt that Youngstown, OH is a high-priority target for terrorists. That being said, Youngstown students should probably take action and come together in some sort of anti-ISIS protest to show the world that’s not what they’re about (even though we all know it).

Yes, this is the school that Jim Tressel just accepted a head coaching job at.

Saint Cecelia Foo Fighters

The Foo Fighters released a surprise, giving their fans the Saint Cecelia EP today for free. The five track record was recorded inside the Saint Cecilia Hotel during their two-week stint in Austin City Limits music festival.

Saint Cecilia Track List

1. Saint Cecilia
2. Sean
3. Savior Breath
4. Iron Rooster
5. The Neverending Sigh

In addition to releasing the album (which is also available for download in MP3, WAVE, and FLAC formats), Dave Grohl penned a letter to his fans:

9 November 2015

Tonight, Let me begin with a preface to a letter I wrote a few weeks ago from my hotel room in Berlin while on our final tour for this album. I felt the need to write this foreword in light of the heartbreaking tragedies of Nov. 13th, as this project has now taken on an entirely different tone. As has everything, it seems…

The Saint Cecilia EP was put into motion back in October of this year as a celebration of life and music. The concept being that, as our world tour drew to a close this week, we wanted to share our love of both with you in return for everything you have given us.

Now, there is a new, hopeful intention that, even in the smallest way, perhaps these songs can bring a little light into this sometimes dark world. To remind us that music is life, and that hope and healing go hand in hand with song. That much can never be taken away.

To all who were affected by the atrocities in Paris, loved ones and friends, our hearts go out to you and your families. We will return and celebrate life and love with you once again someday with our music. As it should be done.

Dave Grohl

8 November 2015

Hey.

Thanks.

For real.

It was in Austin, Texas March 14th, 2013, at the last show of the “Sound City Players” when I was given a small, but very relevant and perhaps prophetic gift from my Sound City movie producers Jim Rota and John Ramsay. An empty journal, with a note that said something along the lines of, “Congratulations on everythingSound City…..now get to work on the next project!” It was the most beautiful way to end something that I wanted so badly to last forever: with a new beginning.

The basic concept of the Sonic Highways album and series was born right then and there, in a small backstage room surrounded by mountains of Lone Star beer and Stubbs BBQ. 8 songs, 8 cities, 8 studios, and a musical road trip of a lifetime. Removing the Foo Fighters from our comfort zone and challenging the process from top to bottom, it breathed new life into the band, and set us on a journey that unquestionably exceeded any of our simple expectations. And now it has led us here. To another beautiful ending.

Dave Grohl; Foo Fighters

So, where do I begin?

We owe it all to Mexico City.

Unbeknownst to them, the people who attended those two concerts back in December, 2013 at Foro Sol stadium helped fund the filming and recording of the bulk of the Sonic Highways project. They were the fuse that lit this little firecracker, baby. Without those gigs, many may have never heard the incredible and truly inspiring life stories of Buddy Guy, Steve Albini, Ian Mackaye, Tony Joe White, Zac Brown, Dolly Parton, Roky Erickson, Gary Clark Jr, Bruce Pavitt, Fred Drake, Terry Lickona, Joan Jett, Steve Rosenthal, Nora Guthrie……a list too long to share here. But, beyond giving our band the equivalent of a rock and roll university year abroad, they gave the entire world the most priceless gift: Inspiration. So….Gracias a todos, Mexico….we couldn’t have done it without you.

Before long, our rag tag crew of ne’er-do-wells was stumbling from city to city, coast to coast, taking in every drop (!) of 100 proof American culture we could squeeze. Dancing in a New Orleans second line parade, laying under the desert stars in Joshua Tree, walking the streets of Chicago in -30 degree weather…it was an American dream come true. Our only responsibility was to share it with you, and the brave people of HBO trusted us with that much. (very freely, I might add.) Blind faith? Perhaps. But, without Nina Rosenstein, we would not be the people who we are today. Looking back, she gave us something immeasurably generous: some of the greatest memories of our lives. These people and places that we experienced have filled our hearts…and ultimately our songs. So, thank you, Nina. We are yours. But, focused on the moment, we never in our wildest dreams could have imagined the whirlwind 23 months that lay ahead of us. We just put one foot in front of the other, and kept moving….

I must admit, I never looked at our schedule. I was too scared. I knew that this was it. This was the big one. There was talk of stadiums, and anniversaries, and TV shows. South Africa, Korea, Colombia. Letterman and Glastonbury. It all seemed too good to be true! But, as always, we kept our heads down and tried to appreciate every single moment as it fled. Because, you realize, none of this was ever supposed to happen. Ever. As we approached our twentieth anniversary, it was hard not to look back on all of those years and smile while shaking our heads in wonder and disbelief. From the Mike Watt van tour of 1995, to RFK stadium in Washington DC (my hometown gig) July 4th, 2015…those dots don’t necessarily connect in real life, you know? It still boggles the mind. But, the spoils of these blessings are not lost upon us. We count every last one.

Even the disasters.

A lucky break? Yeah, you could call it that. Gothenburg was a swift reminder that life is short, and that we’re all here to live it together, no matter what adversity you’re faced with. (Music! The perfect remedy!) Sure, weeks and weeks of shuffling around hotel rooms on my butt with a cast on my leg, trying to pack my suitcase alone before lobby call got pretty fucking stale pretty fucking quick. But, as always, I just put one foot in front of……well, the same one for a while there…

And then everything changed. The energy. The atmosphere. THE THRONE. I was no longer afraid to look at the schedule, I was glued to it. The challenge that we faced from there on out became more of a mission, or a dare, if you will. And it showed. Pat’s smile got even wider (an infallible barometer of all things), Chris’s solos got even faster (thank God someone knows what they’re doing up there), Nate’s stage moves more daring (I once noticed him just to the left of me) and Taylor’s drum set….well….it got pinker. But not without the help of scores of hardworking bad asses that some might call the Foo Fighters road crew (we like refer to them as family, in a very Manson Family kind of way…) They ultimately deserve the lion’s share of credit for keeping this old circus tent erect for the past 6 months. So, let’s all have a nice, warm diet Coke for them tonight. They’re the hardest working motherfuckers in the business. Cheers.

And so we trudged on. Any fatigue was met with an explosion of energy once the curtain went up. Any pain was met with the adrenaline of thousands of voices singing along. Every one of you kept us alive for a while there. One night, at a point where I felt like I was at the end of my rope, it came to me that these few hours we have together every night were something like a heavy blanket to retreat under. I could always rely on our time together to get me to the next stop. Again, and again. From Chicago to Cesena.

That being said….we’ve always been pretty good at knowing when to call it a day. You just….know. You get that feeling that, if you’re not careful, you’ll run out of bread crumbs to find your way home and be lost in the woods forever. It hit me a few months back, crept up on me and tapped me on the shoulder as if to say “Hey…don’t spend it all in one place, asshole.” A sobering reminder that all good things must come to an end. Of course…we could keep going. After all, we’d made it this far, right? What’s another 20 years?

Around that time we arrived in Austin, Texas for the Austin City Limits festival. A massive gig, two weekends and hundreds of acts, it was to be some of our final American performances for this album. There’s a certain bittersweet relief to that. On one hand, you’re carrying these monumental experiences under your wing as you anticipate life outside of a tour bus. On the other hand, you fear that the thrill and joy of sharing music with people all over the world will leave you like an empty shell when it’s gone. It becomes your everything. And that’s terrifying.

The Saint Cecilia Hotel, named after the patroness saint of music, is known as “A lush retreat from the world”. And, believe me, that it is! 14 rooms and a small bar, it’s tucked away in the trees within a bustling, Austin neighborhood. As our van pulled up in the wee hours of September 30th, 2015, I was struck with a rather impulsive idea: to record some songs on our days off to give to the world as a “thank you” for the last 2 years. Though there’s a world class recording studio just on the other side of the fence (Arlyn Studios, look it up.), the hotel manager, Jenny offered that we record in the hotel. A most generous, but unrealistic offer. Though, after rolling it around in my head a few times, it made perfect sense! Returning to the city where the entire Sonic Highways concept was born, loading in one last time to a room that was never designed to be a recording studio a la Sonic Highways, and making some music! Fate? Destiny? I was too tired to figure that kind of shit out, so I hit the sack, woke up the next morning and started making some calls…

By 6 pm the next day, the office was transformed into a control room and the bar was littered with microphones and cables. Amps were in the kitchen. Drums in front of the fireplace. Instant studio, courtesy of the legendary Kevin Szymanski! (Those fancy computer things are pretty convenient! More on that another time….) Margaritas were made, friends came to visit, the sun went down, and before long we started making enough noise to drive the neighbors to start drinking along with us. Riffs and ideas were thrown around, songs that were lost in the shuffle over the years, songs that were left unfinished. Like a musical retrospective, we were going through decades of songs no one has ever heard, pieces left on the cutting room floor from every album. Our own sonic scrapbook. (The Neverending Sigh is 20 years old! Was once called 7 corners for all you die hards out there…) Without the usual pressure or expectation of making an “album”, we sat happy and relaxed as we played. A virtual “This Is Your Life” of the Foo Fighters. It was so good, but again, bittersweet knowing that it was all soon coming to an end.

By midnight, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band had arrived, and the “session” turned into a full on party. Guitars were abandoned for horns and the room started swinging (spinning?). People danced between the cables and microphones, dancing behind the bar, strumming acoustic guitars on the patio. Danny Clinch did what Danny Clinch does, capturing the moments in his beautiful pictures between cocktails. Gary Clark Jr. sat on the patio in the candlelight, jamming along with friends from a couch. As the hours passed, the atmosphere had reached exactly what every recording experience should be: A celebration. “Always record! Always record!” said Jack Black in that infamous Tenacious D episode from years ago. Truer words have never been spoken. Because you just might miss something that you’ll never get back again. Moments that happen once in a lifetime. By the time that weekend was over, we had recorded 5 songs in that tiny room.

Weekend two was spent recording vocals and guitars in my bedroom, room 4. More friends, more margaritas, a fire in the fire pit. The most fabulous Cambria Harkey floated in, slinging her camera to insure that this wasn’t all just a dream. The porch was buzzing with activity as I did vocals in my bathroom, stepping in and out to listen to the previous takes. The coffee table became a pile of guitar pedals and scribbled lyrics, beer bottles and ashtrays. At one point, a familiar face walked in and said, “Dave…..it’s Ben Kweller…..” It had been years! Such a talented young man. We hugged, hit play to listen to the last vocal take, and he instinctively started singing the perfect harmony to my line. Without hesitation, I immediately said, “Get your ass in there and sing it right now.” So he picked up the coffee stained piece of hotel stationary with my lyrics penciled on it and banged out his part in two glorious takes. Always record, ladies and gentlemen. Always record. The night faded, friends and family scattered, and I fell asleep with my still glowing amp at the foot of my bed.

It was heartbreaking to leave that place, to say the least. I honestly feel like we left a piece of our band there as we were being torn away from it. The perfect unity of life, and love, and music is something that only comes around so often and in certain circumstances. When you feel it coming on, you have to take hold of it. That place and those people made it possible for our band to take one, big final breath before the curtain closes. Thankfully, we have evidence of this in these songs that we’re giving to you today. Thank you, Saint Cecilia. You made us feel right at home.

And, the music? Maybe these songs are the breadcrumbs that will help us find our way back when it’s time. We could use a nice wander through the woods right about now. Another empty journal, another tap on the shoulder…those things are never far behind. It’s what lies ahead in those woods that excites me now….

So tonight, as I sit in my Berlin hotel room on our final tour for this album, counting down the days until we return home, I can’t help but wonder when we will see each other again. Who knows? But, with everything Foo Fighter related, it will only be when it feels right. And that’s a feeling that’s easy to feel.

To each and every one of you that made the past few years the best our band has ever had, thank you. You have all given us so much, and we are eternally grateful.

For real.

One foot in front of the other….

Dave

University of Ottawa Cancels Yoga Classes Over Cultural Appropriation, Proving Being PC Has Gone Way Too Far

University of Ottawa Yoga
Canada’s University of Ottawa proves being PC isn’t all it’s cracked up to be after they cancelled a string of free yoga classes over cultural appropriation concerns.

Now’s the time to get all up-in-arms about how society is going down a dark, politically correct black hole.

Jen Scharf has been teaching free yoga classes at the university’s Centre for Students with Disabilities for the last seven years, but things changed when she checked back in with the student union in September. According to CBC, Scharf was told that her services would no longer be needed “because some students and volunteers were uncomfortable with the ‘cultural issues’ involved.”

You’ve got to be f*cking kidding me with this, right?

“I guess it was this cultural appropriation issue because yoga originally comes from India,” she said on Sunday. “I told them, ‘Why don’t we just change the name of the course?’ It’s simple enough, just call it mindful stretching.… We’re not going through the finer points of scripture. We’re talking about basic physical awareness and how to stretch so that you feel good.

“That went back and forth… The higher-ups at the student federation got involved, finally we got an email routed through the student federation basically saying they couldn’t get a French name and nobody wants to do it, so we’re going to cancel it for now.”

In case you were wondering, cultural appropriation is when a culture that’s seen as an oppressor borrows or steals elements of a culture they’re oppressing. An official from the center argued that various cultures that practice yoga “have experienced oppression, cultural genocide and diasporas due to colonialism and western supremacy,” and that us westerners have essentially stolen what was once theirs.

But according to Scharf – along with anyone else reading this with half a brain – “people are just looking for a reason to be offended by.”

Agreed 100%. It’s YOGA, can everyone relax?! Not everyone trying to get their Downward-Facing Dog on do it to oppress other cultures… they just want to sort out their back problems.

So what do you think? Is anyone anti-yoga for discriminatory reasons? Or is this just a pawn because yoga actually sucks? Tell us what you think in the comments below.

Morgan Cope Washington State University

We’re sad to report that Morgan Cope, a 20-year-old Washington State University student and Pi Beta Phi sorority sister, was killed Sunday afternoon in a car accident.

According to The Spokesman:

Cope’s car was struck by a pickup truck driven by Jason R. Wigen, 18, of La Crosse, Washington, the WSP said. Wigen’s vehicle crossed the centerline and struck Cope’s car in the westbound lanes, investigators said.

Wigen was injured and taken by Medstar to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

Morgan was a sociology major in her second year at WSU.

Washington State’s Greek community in particular is in mourning, this is the second bit of tragic news that’s been announced in a week. Earlier this week, Sidney Ritter (a Tri Delt sister) also died in a car crash.

It’s easy to feel invincible while you’re in the bubble that is college, but please remember that’s not the case. Be safe and cherish your friends and family whenever possible. Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Morgan.

Best Cheap Red Wines For Thanksgiving Dinner-lead

Thanksgiving dinner is right around the corner and hopefully you’re all going home to enjoy the holidays with your family. We fully recognize that not all of you are big on wine and that most of you will be sticking to beer or liquor throughout the weekend BUT that being said, you know who is drinking wine? Your parents and family. And nothing says “great guest” to your hosts who’ve been slaving in the kitchen like a bottle or two of wine.

That’s why we’ve pulled together a list of our five favorite cheap red wines to bring to the table. You’ll notice that most of these cheap wines are actually Pinot Noirs (my personal favorite) which will go very well with turkey. It’s a type of wine that’s a natural compliment to pretty much everything you’ll be served at dinner.

Not only will you really enjoy these red wines, they’re cheap enough to leave a even little gravy in your wallet. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hob Nob Pinot Noir

Hob Nob Pinot Noir

Origin: France

Price: $10.99

The Hob Nob Pinot Noir is without a doubt my favorite cheap red wine. Does it help that Pinot Noir is my favorite type of wine? Probably. But when red wine tastes this good out of a Solo cup, people will appreciate the hell out of this when you put it in a glass.

Arrogant-Frog-Lily-Pad-Noir

Arrogant Frog Pinot Noir

Origin: France

Price: $9.99

I recently discovered Angry Frog after the local liquor store had sold out of Hob Nob. After asking them for a cheap recommended replacement, they sent me two bottles of the Arrogant Frog which I was really pleased with. It’s even a dollar cheaper than Hob Nob!

VINTJS Pinot Noir

VINTJS (Trader Joe’s)

Origin: Willamette Valley, OR

Price: $8.99

Trader Joe’s is well-known as the mecca of good, cheap wine but one of our favorites for the Thanksgiving holiday season is the VINTJS Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Here’s a review from their website. “This Oregon wine’s bright cherry and raspberry notes ride the moderate acidity, cutting the richness of your turkey gravy, while bringing an accent to your cranberry relish. Its hints of spice, tobacco, and oak find grateful partners in your herby stuffing and sides.”

Votre Sante Thanksgiving Wine

Votre Sante Pinot Noir

Origin: California

Price: $12.99

Francis Ford Coppola knows both movies and wine, and we know that the Votre Sante Pinot Noir is top-notch. Some wine drinkers with deeper pockets might say that cheap Pinot Noirs lack “character” (whatever that is) but that Votre Sante is an exception to that rule.

Heartland Stickleback Red

Heartland Stickleback Red

Origin: South Australia

Price: $11.99

When you’re eating turkey, gravy, and stuffing, you’re going to want something a little spicy to complement the tastes and flavors. Heartland Stickleback Red is just the wine to do that. This is a great wine for hearty meat dishes. Finishes with black pepper and smoke. We highly recommend it.

Fresno State Alpha Sigma Phi
The guys of Alpha Sigma Phi at Fresno State are getting dressed up and dancing sexy in this rendition of thePussycat Dolls’ “Buttons.” Needless to say, they have a lot of time on their hands, but at least it gives us an excuse to remember the original.

Before you watch what the frat boys have up their sleeves, let’s reminisce on the original masterpiece, featuring certified babe Nicole Scherzinger.

Wow. There’s a lot going on there… and it’s a lot to compete with. But these guys did it and did it right. Granted, they don’t look as good greased up and dancing in tight black dresses – actually, it’s rather disturbing when you really stop and think about it – but hey, we’re giving them an A for effort!

Check them out in the video below.
