Sweet Briar, A private rural college near Lynchburg, Virginia, will hold its final commencement on May 16 and cease operations Aug. 25, the end of the summer session, after more than a century of educating women.

Students were shocked when they heard the announcement that Sweet Briar would close its doors for good at the end of the current academic year because of “insurmountable financial challenges,” blamed on the decreasing amount of women interested in single-sex education and the pressures on small liberal arts schools.

In an interview with TriCities, senior Caitlin Daniel explains, “we’re hurting, but we’re insanely proud of this school that we went to, this school that we chose. For most of us, we came to this campus and realized it was perfect for us — this is where we grew up. This is where we prospered.”

The college’s board of directors voted unanimously Feb. 28 to shut down after a yearlong study of its future failed to find any viable paths forward.

Sweet Briar will be the third liberal arts college to close in Virginia.Saint Paul’s College in Lawrenceville and Virginia Intermont College in Bristol faced a similar demise form financial pressures.

This week in Panama City Beach–the #1 Trashiest Spring Break Destination–a local group of fisherman caught a fairly large Great White Shark on the beach. The nominees for the 2015 MTV Movie Awards have been announced, in case you were under the mistaken impression that the awards season ended with the 2015 Oscars. The kids have yet to have their say, and they’re not interested in Birdman because there wasn’t even a supervillain in it! Well, except for existential angst.

Adam Sandler and Bob Barker are brawling again–and that’s way more unexpected than in their legendary fight scene in Happy Gilmore, because who thought that Bob Barker would even be around for a rematch in 2015? The former Price is Right host is 91 years old now. He’s looking good, too, although there’s a possibility that he used a stuntman in this promo for Comedy Central’s upcoming Night of Too Many Stars autism benefit.

This is also the rare comedy skit that just keeps going for a reason. In fact, we’re pretty sure this is the best thing that Adam Sandler has done since the underrated Little Nicky. Not that this video is going to be underrated. A lot of people are already saying that this is the best thing that Adam Sandler has done in years. Bill Walton was in rare form last night while announcing the UCLA vs USC men’s basketball game last night. The game itself wasn’t much to write home about, but Bill definitely keep things interesting–especially when he admitted (?) that he’d “been milked before.”

Every year there is a new item that professional sports teams decide to put on their menus looking to get the attention of the fans. The Arizona Diamondbacks used an 18-inch bacon and cheese stuffed corn dog to gain that attention. This year, the team has introduced “The Churro Dog” which is a warm cinnamon churro inside a chocolate-glazed Long John and then topped with frozen yogurt, caramel and chocolate sauce.

The entire dessert comes in at an overwhelming 1,117 calories and will cost $8.50 at Chase Field this season. It is clear that teams just want to come up with the most outrageous thing possible at this point. Who thinks of putting yogurt, caramel and chocolate sauce on top of a warm churro that is stuffed inside of a donut?

The D-Bat Dog from last season sold over 9,500 times even though it was $25. The Churro Dog is probably going to be even more popular because the price is lower and it is a cooler item to eat on those hot Arizona days. Who knows what the next thing will be that a team comes up with but the Diamondbacks have put the bar very high.

There are times where fights break out during basketball games during the two teams. However, it is not normal for the fight to involve the cheerleaders or dance teams. That exact thing happened on Tuesday night between Albany State and Tuskegee however during their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament game. The fight broke up at halftime between the two groups.

Both teams had their cheerleaders and dance teams sent home after the incident during a game that Tuskegee won 80-63. The question that needs to be answered is what on earth happened to cause the cheerleaders and dance teams to get into a brawl. It would appear that someone got bumped while the two sides were switching ends of the court and that erupted into something huge.

It is surprising that more things like this don’t happen at the college level. There are plenty of schools who don’t like each other and probably would fight the other side no matter what the cost was. This incident though is going to cost everyone involved some quality time on the court performing for the fans in attendance and was a general embarrassment to all involved.

Indiana University student Andrew Thrall has been arrested after police seized 1000 Xanax pills shipped from Canada to the Alpha Chi Omega sorority house. Andrew has been formally charged with dealing a schedule IV drug (a level 3 felony in Indiana) which could result in three to 20 years in prison and/or a fine of $10,000.

After Andrew, a Delta Tau Delta brother, had been arrested with the pills in hand the police served a search warrant at his fraternity house where they found an Ecstasy pill, some LSD, weed edibles, and $2K in cash that Andrew stupidly admitted he made via selling Xanax.

Officials say that they had been tracking the case since November.

Is this the first fight of Panama City Beach Spring Break 2015? Probably not. But it’s the first one we’ve seen. And yeah it kills us that someone sent this to Barstool instead of us so they can put their logo on the video but whatever, you gotta roll with the punches. That’s the mantra I think a few of the guys who got sucker punched should live by.

Today Google announced that it had added cocktail recipes to its Knowledge Graph, meaning that users will be greeted with everything they need to know about drinks they’re searching for–including the ingredients, preparation, how they’re served, garnishes, and drinkware.

If you do the search on your desktop or laptop, the recipe should be located on the left of your screen. We used Dark ‘N’ Stormys as an example because they’re delicious.

 

If you search on mobile, the recipe will be the top result.

You can also tell Google, “OK Google, make me a cocktail” but nothing will happen. You need to be more specific. Even though Google probably knows what cocktail you drink the most (because they’re data mining the sh*t out of you 24/7), they’re not willing to admit they know it. Yet.

Believe it or not, for 2015, the Moscow Mule topped the list of most-searched cocktails, followed by the Margarita and the Bloody Mary.
