WATCH: FSU Xavier Rathan-Mayes Scores 30 Points In 5 Minutes

Xavier Rathan Mayes highlight

There have been some scoring explosions that are just shocking to say the least. What Florida State University’s Xavier Rathan-Mayes did on Wednesday night however against Miami may go down as the greatest barrage of points ever. With the Seminoles down by 18 points and under five minutes to play, Rathan-Mayes scored 30 points in the final 4:38 of the game but still couldn’t get Florida State to a win in a 81-77 loss.

He would finish the game with 35 points as he became a one-man scoring machine. There had to be a point though where Miami had to consider doing something to get the ball out of his hands. It is stunning that one player could put up 30 points in under five minutes when the other team is trying to stop them.

Rathan-Mayes is just a freshman but if he keeps putting up games like that, there are going to be NBA teams waiting for him at the draft this June. It’s too bad that Florida State isn’t going to get to the NCAA Tournament because it would have been fun to watch Rathan-Mayes in action trying to match what could turn into his 15 minutes of glory.

Dead or Alive Last Round

One recent major release is all about gratuitous violence and bared flesh, while another is sunhine, rainbows and music straight out of Blue’s Clues. The brutal, sexy fighter Dead or Alive 5: Last Round is another last-gen remaster with its rough edges smoothed out for a re-release, and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is an adorable and addictive Wii U platformer. Surprisingly enough, both games might well appeal to the same type of player — those up for repetitive and familiar yet insanely addictive and rapidly ramped-up challenge.

On the download tip, a pair of boardgame-styled games have emerged in The Dungeons and Dragons-style card/combat title Hand of Fate and Risk, the strategy game that made you punch your older brother in the arm.

Dead or alive last round

Dead or Alive 5: Last Round

(PS4, Xbox One, $60, Mature)

Order Dead or Alive 5: Last Round here

Seeking to fill the colossal fighting game void on current-gen systems, Dead or Alive 5: Last Round beats rivals Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken and SoulCalibur to the punch. A wholesale revamp of the 2012 Xbox 360/PS3 slugfest, the expansive roster of characters get a stunning visual makeover and loads of new levels. The franchise is known for its buxom, jiggly female cast, but the looks tend to overlook the rock-solid fighting mechanics, which are some of the tightest and best-balanced in the genre. The result is not only the best fighter on new systems, but one of the best on systems of any generation.

You can choose between one-on-one and tag team battles, through numerous online and offline modes that let you rack up the unlocks as you pour hours into honing your strategy. There are more than 400 costumes to mix and match, once everything is unlocked. Last-gen players who don’t want to let go of all their progress are in luck, because all unlocked and downloaded content transfers over to the new systems (Xbox 360 to Xbox One and PS3 to PS4). The disappointment is that — unlike the custom of most last-generation remasters — the previous-gen DLC isn’t all unlocked to begin with.

HandOfFate

Hand of Fate

(PS4, Xbox One, $20, Teen)

Spawned from a 2013 Kickstarter that eked its way past its $50,000 fundraising goal, Hand of Fate appeals to fans of Magic: The Gathering, Diablo and Dungeons and Dragons with its unique blend of card deck management, RPG loot collecting/stat-building and turn-based, randomized combat. A brooding, taunting dealer doles out cards, which you stack, arrange and play in order to give yourself the greatest edge on the battlefields you encounter by moving your game piece and selecting choices presented to you by cards you’re blindly dealt. Once the cards are played, you grab your weapon and hack away at the enemies in your path. Depending on your cards, you could be in for an easy romp or near-impossible odds.

While the mixture of playstyles can be jarring, the diversity keeps things fresh and lively. The suspense in the doling out and presentation of new cards becomes a tension-filled thrill. Crafting and arranging your deck to strengthen your character and up your chances can easily become an obsession, and the live-action combat is quick and brutal, never wearing out its welcome. Hand of Fate is a geeky game for the geekiest of geeks, and its antisocial paradise of stat-crunching and item hording is a gleeful waste of time. Thank the Kickstarter backers for bringing this strange and glorious game to life.

Kirby

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

(Wii U, $40, Everyone)

Order Kirby and the Rainbow Curse here

Kirby games are too few and far between on Nitendo systems, so it’s a joy to see the first Wii U entry, and first mainline series entry since 2010’s Kirby’s Epic Yarn. Making excellent use of the Wii U GamePad’s touchscreen, you guide the inhaling-obsessed puffball by drawing rainbow-colored platforms on the screen. The ramps, walls and ceilings you make help you bounce, float and roll your way through the imaginative, claymation-textured levels. As is always the case in Kirby games, you swallow enemies and items that give you different power-ups you use to solve puzzles and obliterate bad guys.

Designed mainly as a single-player romp, the game takes on additional life when other players join the mix. Up to four players can join in on the frustratingly offline-only co-op action, but as with many Wii U multiplayer games, it’s the GamePad player who has the most control. Those stuck using Wii controllers are forced to play backup roles and are generally at the mercy of Player 1. The upside is that the mode lets veteran players easily tug newbies who don’t contribute all that much along through the game. While a bit too easy in the beginning and a little too challenging in the later levels, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is vintage, well-calibrated and creative platforming that Nintendo is known for.

Risk

Risk

(PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, $15, Everyone)

Set aside any fond memories of hours hunched over a table, maneuvering armies to conquer the world in the Risk board game as a child. Play the digital version and you’ll wonder what it is you ever saw in the plastic-and-cardboard strategic epic. While it’s nice not to have to deal with stray cards and game pieces, cumbersome menus and frustrating design choices make it tough to get absorbed into the spell of global domination.

Playing against the computer is a mind-numbing chore, with A.I. choices limited to pandering idiocy and preternatural cheating. It’s better with human competitors, but it takes so long to execute turns that you’ll find yourself playing something else on your phone as you wait for your turn to pop up. The straight-up, dry presentation is a crushing disappointment, especially when compared to Risk: Factions, the lively re-imagining from 2010.

University of Tennessee Students Enjoying The Snow Days [PHOTOS]

University of Tennessee students aren’t very used to having snow days, but they’re certainly making them count. While the past few weeks have been blistering cold and miserable for us up north, UT-Knoxville dudes and dudettes have been rocking out in the snow, courtesy of numerous days of cancelled classes.

While some students are using the time to perfect their Snapsterpiece skills (I see you library genius girl), it looks like more of them are partying–smoking in igloos, making snow dongs, using the snow to keep their beers cold, and even sledding behind cars, then uploading their photos to VolNation_Snap. Yes, that’s the same Snapchat account made famous from the Neyland Stadium tryst.

Check out our favorite photos from the Snapchat account below. And if you’ve got an iPhone, do yourself a favor and download the Yeti Campus app because we have a feeling these college accounts aren’t going to be around for much longer.

Bobby Shmurda called Hot 97 this morning from Rikers Island for a few minutes before the police cut him off for talking too much. House of Cards
House of Cards is set to drop its third season on Netflix this Friday, February 27 at 3:01 am. Sure, us New Yorkers have to get up in the morning to go to work at that time, but honestly what’s more important: binge-watching Frank Underwood singlehandedly manhandle the government? Or getting some shut eye?

Obviously, it’s not the latter.

Arianny Celeste & Ronda Rousey Brawl Outside of the Ring

Arianny Celeste
We love a good girl fights. Women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and Octagon ring card girl Arianny Celeste have been feuding for months now, slinging petty insults back and forth like school girls (Rousey is less than impressed with the ring girl and Celeste just thinks she really mean), but things have gone one step further.

In a recent interview with MMAJunkie Radio, Celeste explained, “I’m not going to talk about her because I’m not a fighter… I’m not going to waste my time. I actually don’t talk about anyone. It blows my mind that someone who doesn’t even know me continuously picks on me. And that’s all I see her as: a big bully.

Ouch. Of course, Rousey didn’t let the comment slide – she came back with more force:

“What did I say that I was a bully?… I said that the fighters should get paid more than the ring girls. That doesn’t make me a bully, that makes me f-cking right. I’m sorry, but she wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for the fighters… Do you think her walking in circles around the two guys or two girls out there like, fighting for their lives is worth more? You think she works harder than they do? I didn’t say that she needed a pay cut. I said either the ring card girls are paid too much or the fighters aren’t paid enough.”

Ladies, the only way to settle this is with a good old fashioned smackdown.

No? Ok, fine. We can dream, though.

In case you missed it, there were two llamas running WILD all over the streets of Arizona. It was nuts. Unfortunately they were both captured, but not before they took the internet and Twitter by storm. #LlamaDrama was a real thing guys.

Deadspin captured the whole chase and set it to “Yakkety Sax,” which is the right thing to do.

When it was all said and done, the world watched for a full 15 minutes as both a black llama (of course the police nabbed him first) and a white llama enjoyed the taste of freedom.

Rob Gronkowski Clears The Air, Is Not Dating Former Miss COED Marisa Hunter

gronk-champagne-parade

After rumors swirled that Rob Gronkowski was dating former Miss COED – and all around babe – Marisa Hunter, Gronk took to Twitter to set things straight: “Sometimes chicks are crazy…I don’t got a girlfriend.”

While his reasoning is legit, it’s a shame he didn’t snag Marissa considering she looks like that. But we can understand why he’s sticking with singledom. He’s a football star who just won the Super Bowl – women are coming out of the woodwork for him.

This is also a classic Gronk move; not only is he setting the rumor mill straight, but he’s making sure all of his hot admirers still keep running towards him. Take notes, boys.

BU Suspends Fraternity For Promoting A “Blackout” Party

BU Kappa Sigma suspension

Boston University has suspended their Kappa Sigma fraternity chapter after learning that the student organization had promoted a “blackout” party with *gasp* “sexually suggestive, misogynist videos and photos.”

Although the shindig in question was actually a pre-Christmas shindig, Boston University’s Assistant Dean of Students John Battaglio only recently announced on February 6th that BU had derecognized the fraternity. Referring to said inappropriate images and videos found on the event page, Mr. Battaglino claimed the party promoted “a culture of abusive behavior that openly celebrates verbal sexual coercion, belittling women, grabbing, groping, forced kissing, and the badgering of women for sex.” [source]

We know what you’re thinking. You want to see these videos and photos. You want to see the hardcore BDSM smut that these dudes were using to peddle their party that belittles women. Well we don’t have it, but we know what they included. “Promotion photos for the party showed close-ups of women kissing open-mouthed, women’s bare breasts, and women’s buttocks, among other images.” [source]

Honestly, suspensions like this are the reason that more and more fraternities are using apps and methods of communication that old people don’t understand. Snapchat, WhatsApp, GroupMe–these are all better options because no one can f*ck with your sh*t.

Obviously COED doesn’t support belittling women, grabbing, or forced kissing, but give these students a break. They’re in college, college kids love to get freaky.

You don’t even have to be on the internet to see this kind of stuff! 50 Shades of Grey is MAKING BANK$$$$$ and that’s a movie about an abusive bondage relationship.

Some fraternities deserve to be suspended for stupid shit. But BU’s Kappa Sigmas certainly don’t.

WATCH: Vanderbilt Coach Yell At Wade Baldwin [VIDEO]

Barclays Center Classic

There are going to be some issues at the college level with young student-athletes who want to trash talk and take things too far. Thursday night saw Vanderbilt player Wade Baldwin IV decide to clap in the face of a Tennessee player after the Commodores won 73-65. After Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings found out about it though, he pulled Baldwin out of the handshake line and began to berate him in front of the cameras.

Stallings used many profanities along the way trying to get his point across to Baldwin, who Stallings says has “got some things to learn, some growing up to do.” Stallings probably went too far and did apologize during his postgame press conference but Baldwin did need to be told off for what he did in the front of an opposing player.

There is a point where sportsmanship is the biggest thing in the sport and handshakes after the game are part of that. Stallings probably should have waited until he got to the locker room and then told Baldwin what he was thinking but the ESPN cameras caught it along with everyone in the arena. There are lessons to be learned. Hopefully Stallings and Baldwin learned theirs.

Margot Robbie is taking over Hollywood. The Australian goddess first got her start on Aussie TV, where she starred in a bunch of shows we’ve never heard of because we live in America. But in 2013 she made her big break overseas when she starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street.

For three glorious hours Robbie could be seen in barely-there dresses, bikinis, and a few times, even nude. It was awesome. Now she’s back playing sexy femme fatale Jess in Focus, alongside Will Smith. We know how we’ll be spending our Friday night.

Juanye Jones Complains About Headaches, Doctors Find Bullet in Head

Juanye Jones, a 19-year-old from Daytona Beach, Florida, visited Daytona Beach Hospital earlier this week complaining about having intense headaches. After an X-Ray, doctors found something a little more serious: a fragmented bullet that was lodged in his head.

According to reports, Jones was one of the bystanders hit during the shooting at Bethune-Cookman University Monday night. Believing he was only grazed by one of the bullets, Jones never sought treatment until several days later. He was advised to seek further treatment once X-rays came back.

In other news – how could you not realize there’s a bullet was lodged in your skull?! This may be the weirdest story we’ve hard all week (and that’s even including yesterday’s llama coverage). Must have been one hell of a headache.

Redditor Depicts How To Weigh Marijuana Without A Scale [PHOTO]

Marijuana Scale

PSA: Unless you’re a registered marijuana dispensary, selling weed is illegal m’kay?

Now that we’ve gone ahead and satisfied our lawyers, Redditor /u/addisonneikirk perfectly depicted the best way to weigh marijuana if you don’t own a scale. A dollar bill weighs a gram.

If you’re going to do this, though, make sure that the dollar and the weed are as close to the middle as possible. Read the explanation below.

I hate to be the devil’s advocate here but, I see that some of the dollar’s mass goes past the edge of the paper. The more mass you get on or above the crease, the better. Fulcrums and stuff man. Hopefully the margin of error isn’t enough to matter in this case. If you made the paper closer to a W shape, that should make it a little more accurate. I just don’t want you to come up short or vis-versa, selling too much to someone, say, if you’re splitting a pick up with a friend. In any case, I wouldn’t want you to get the short end of the stick!
