The University of Texas chapter of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) is now in a bit of trouble after they hosted a “Border Patrol”-themed party this past Saturday. The Daily Texan was the first source to pick the story up, and then it wound up on Gawker and a few other sites.
This is far from the first time that we’ve reported on fraternities hosting parties that can be construed as “racist” or “insensitive,” which leaves us wondering why fraternities keep doing this sh*t. STOP IT. JUST STOP IT.
There are plenty of other themed parties you can go with that are just as fun that lead to the same level of blackout without upsetting the millions of keyboard warriors and school officials who already hate your guts. I mean, not even six months ago a Texas Tech sorority was punished for throwing the exact same “Border Patrol” party.
FIJI, y’all (note my Texas twang) have one of the greatest/biggest/frattiest fraternity houses in the nation (seriously it’s sick). You don’t need a racially insensitive party to get people to come to your house compound.

A freshman at Millersville University in Pennsylvania was found dead early Sunday morning and her boyfriend is being charged for the crime. Allegedly, 19-year-old Gregorio Orrostieta was found covered in blood and performing CPR to 18-year-old freshman Karlie Hall when campus police arrived at her dormitory.
Orrostieta, who did not attend the university, told officers that the two had gotten into an argument earlier on in the night while at a party, but made up shortly before returning to her dorm. Once there, they began arguing again, and Orrostieta shoved Hall to the ground. After hitting her head on a chair,Orrostieta then backhanded her, causing her to become unresponsive.
Orrostieta was arraigned Monday on aggravated assault charges and is jailed in lieu of $1.5 million bail.
Skydivers in Thailand had a close-call recently when their plane dove and clipped their parachute shortly after they jumped out, nearly colliding with the plane itself. Luckily the skydiving instructor saved the day, gaining control after the near disaster and deploying their backup suit. Check it out below and be thankful you’re planted firmly on the ground.
Last week was one of the toughest in my life. On Sunday / early Monday I had emergency appendectomy surgery. The surgery nor the recovery was challenging but what was challenging was not having a sip of booze, of any kind, for a week+! No craft beer to drink; I couldn’t even complete a beer review. I know if I am this shaken by the experience you all must be 100 times worse. But I am making up for it this week with a solid session IPA from one of my favorite breweries. This weekend, Heavy Seas’ Crossbones IPA is What’s on Tap!
Session IPAs are going to be huge in 2015; they are crisp, easy drinking, low ABV, but filled with hoppy goodness and flavor. Heavy Seas’ Crossbones, used to be a seasonal in the Heavy Seas’ beer lineup but this year it was moved to a year-round offering. On the nose Crossbones is full of a fruity citrus aroma that is very inviting. With each sip Crossbones gives off a great tasting combination. The hops and floral notes are upfront which followed the malt and then the bitter citrus ending. Every time I enjoy a session I am always impressed with the brew’s flavor impact yet the low ABV; with a 4.5% ABV Crossbones is no exception.
Because of the low ABV yet flavor profile session IPAs are great with any type of meal. Because Crossbones is my first brew in sometime I plan on drinking many, good thing for the low ABV, but when I get around to eating I plan on making maple and cayenne glazed chicken quarters. The maple syrup and cayenne paper should provide a sweet and spicy kick to pair with the hops and Crossbones’ flavor profile. So cheers to the weekend and me being back on the wagon.

Upcoming shooter Evolve is being released to some serious hype. The asymmetrical multiplayer experience, developed by Turtle Rock Studios (Left 4 Dead)) and published by 2K Games will be released February 10th on PC, Playstation 4 and the Xbox One. And so far, the reviews seem to be pretty good.
“Where a lot of high-concept games start with big promises and end in scaled back disappointment, this one achieves exactly what it set out to do. Through an array of intelligent design choices, developer Turtle Rock Studios has created an asymmetric, multiplayer monster-hunting game that doesn’t play quite like anything else.”
“It’s worth noting that Evolve supports bots, an all-too-uncommon feature, and while the AI reveals its imperfections as time goes on, it’s strong enough to make playing offline matches rewarding on its own terms, and bots will fill in for disconnected teammates, or will leap into action should you not be able to find a friend to take that particular role. As with Turtle Rock’s Left 4 Dead, Evolve is best when you play with buddies; getting matched with a novice can lead to ghastly results if your newfound friend constantly seeks out the nonexistent “I” in “team.” It doesn’t take long to whip a newcomer into shape, at least, meaning you can usually focus on Evolve’s unique brand of greatness: the suspense of the hunt, the exhilaration of battle, and the drive to dominate Shear.”

That pace instills Evolve with a feeling of constant urgency that I like, but it also makes it more ephemeral than other multiplayer FPSes. Evolve’s four-versus-one format is exactly the sort of asymmetry we need more of in the genre, but I rarely walk away from it with water-cooler war stories that I can’t wait to tell, something Left 4 Dead provided plenty of.”
Kendrick Lamar starts the year off with his new controversial single “The Blacker The Berry“. The outspoken rapper didn’t hold back on speaking his mind on race relations in America especially in light of the recent deaths of unarmed black males at the hands of law enforcement.
The song, which would appear on his forthcoming, yet-untitled album chronicles the struggles of the black male experience told from the perspective of a narrator.
“Came from the bottom of mankind, my hair is nappy, my dick is big, my nose is round and wide. You hate me don’t you? You hate my people, your plan is to terminate my culture. You’re fucking evil, i want you to recognize I’m a proud monkey. You vandalize my perception but can’t take style from me and this is my confession.”

There has been plenty of pressure on New York Knicks owner James Dolan over the last 36 hours to sell the team after he sent an angry email to a fan where Dolan called the fan an alcoholic and said he should cheer for the Brooklyn Nets. It has inspired two fans to start Knicks4Sale.com which is a detailed website that calls for Dolan to the sell the team.
The campaign is looking to raise $20,000 in donations so they can put up a billboard near Madison Square Garden. This is a worst-case scenario for Dolan and the Knicks. The entire NBA community is going to be in New York this coming weekend with the All-Star Game being held on Sunday night. Dolan can’t have everyone coming to town and having everyone talking up Dolan about the email and now the website.
The Knicks re-signed Carmelo Anthony to a max contract over the summer and hired Phil Jackson to rebuild the franchise. Everything has gone wrong for the Knicks though this season and they are well on their way to a top-five lottery pick in the draft along with having $30 million to spend in free agency. Maybe a complete rebuild with that draft pick and the money turns things around but for right now, Dolan is on the hot seat from the fans in the Big Apple.
Obviously this is meant to be a parody, but these Lambda Chi Alpha brothers should definitely should have just let this video sit in the hopper rather than post it to YouTube and Reddit.

The 30-year-old starlet stole glances from passer-bys with smokey eyes, a sultry pout, and her signature assets draped in a yellow sweater. Considering how good she looks on the cover, the inside spread can only get better from here.
Obviously our assumption was right. Scarlett can be found decked out in sexy nightwear, with an accompanying interview in which the actress discussed her role as a mother, baring it all for her film Under the Skin, and what it was like growing up in the acting world. Sure, words are nice, but the pictures - that’s what’s up. Kudos to Scarlett for keeping her sex appeal and reassuring fans that things can only go up from here (um, no pun intended).
Despite what some conspiracy theorists suggest, POTUS Barack Obama is a human being. And just like every human being he’s got a closet obsession with Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.” In fact, he’s been hiding breadcrumbs to his guilty pleasure in every one of his speeches.
A California teen got a gnarly surprise earlier this month when he sat down for a meal at his local KFC and found what looks to be a chicken brain staring him in the face.
Luckily for KFC, Manuel Cobarubies, a Stockton High School student, is rather forgiving. The only thing he wants in return for his nasty meal is his $4 back.
KFC representatives profusely apologized and eventually gave Cobarubies his money back.
That’s great that he made it out ok, but how could you not be scarred for life after that? Good luck ever eating at a fast food restaurant again Manuel, you’re going to need it.
Rumors of Fallout 4 news are swirling around after game developer Bethesda announced on Twitter (@BethBlog) that they will host their own dedicated showcase at E3 in June, 2015.
They then followed up that tweet with an announcement that their showcase will air live on June 14th at this link.
Arguably one of the greatest franchises in gaming history, we find it hard to believe that anyone is more excited for Fallout 4 news than our office. Of course, this is all just speculation and Bethesda could likely use the showcase to announce games like Dishonored 2 or Rage 2, but that wouldn’t be as much fun.

Yes it’s from last year but in light of all the somewhat negative coverage surrounding fraternities, we wanted to get back to what brotherhood is all about: parties, friends, and good times.
Plus, it’s been far too long since we’ve seen an epic house photo like this. And we’re jealous of the size of their flag.

While everyone is freaking out about the impending 50 Shades of Grey premiere, Internet trolls are twisting the hype into a giant joke. Exhibit A: 50 Shades of Steve Buscemi. Despite the flick being pretty graphic and kinky as all hell, we’re not exactly looking forward to the debut, depsite the fact that we will have no choice but to go see it on Valentine’s Day. 50 Shades of Steve Buscemi, on the other hand, we can get behind. Check out the video below for an awkward laugh and thank God Dakota Johnson is still featured in it (there’s only so much of Steve Buscemi’s face we can take at one time).
Last weekend, Indiana University’s Beta Theta Pi hosted a fantastic philanthropy event to benefit Dropping The Puck. It was a success not just because it raised over $5K for the charity, but also because it looked like everyone had a blast.
It looked a little chilly, but nothing a beer jacket can’t handle. Plus when you’ve got tons of chicks surrounding you jumping up and screaming things get a little warmer.
The idea of hosting a philanthropy event and then inviting sororities to compete against each other in fun darty games will never get old.
Incoming freshmen at IU, take note of Beta Theta Pi. Not only do they have one of the greatest fraternity houses in the Midwest, it looks like they know how to put their grounds to best use.

Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios announced yesterday that Sony is bringing Marvel into its amazing World of Spider-Man. In a move that already has fan boys buzzing, the deal would have the new Spider-Man appearing in a Marvel film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the first of which would be released on July 28, 2017. The film would be co-produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for the studio for 13 years ago. Marvel and Sony are also exploring opportunities to integrate characters from the Marvel Universe into future Spider-Man films.
The collaboration, long overdue comes decades after speculation from fans about whether Spider-Man – who has always been an integral part of the Marvel Universe in the comic books could become part of the Marvel Universe on the big screen.
Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company said: “Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s great characters, beloved around the world. We’re thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building.”
“We always want to collaborate with the best and most successful filmmakers to grow our franchise and develop our characters. As a fan boy, all this news has got me excited for the future of Spider-Man and if there’s one thing i know about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is that they know how to transfer the characters we’ve all grown up with and love from the comic books to the big screen.
