Milla Jovovich to Star in George R.R. Martin Film

Milla Jovovich Resident Evil
Resident Evil star Milla Jovovich will play sorceress Gray Alys in the film adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s book of short stories written prior to his most epic work to date, Game of Thrones. Titled In the Lost Lands, the flick will be directed by German filmmaker Constantin Werner, the man behind a bunch of movies we’ve never heard of. After Jovovich joined the project, Martin took to his website to express his gratitude, stating, “It’s a thrill to have her be a part of this, and I will look forward to seeing her bring Gray Alys to life.”

The ex-supermodel will play the main character from his first story, a sorceress whose sole task is to travel into the Lost Lands to obtain the ability to shape-shift into a werewolf for her queen. Weird. But we stand behind whatever Milla Jovovich decides to do with her time for obvious reasons (re: she’s a babe).

Better Call Saul: Must Read Reviews From TV Critics

Better Cal Saul Reviews tv critics

Hype for AMC’s Better Call Saul is at an all-time high, but what are the reviews from TV critics saying about the show? Good things, actually. Read below to find must read reviews for this season’s most anticipated new series starring Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk).

Better Call Saul Reviews

IGN admits that you don’t need to be a Breaking Bad fan to love the show.

“For now, I’ll say that Saul is both unique and highly reminiscent of Breaking Bad. That may sound like a paradox, but the truth is that the tonal and thematic links, as well as the distinctions, between the two series are both inevitable and organic. This is a shared universe, after all, with the same creative team. Gilligan and Gould co-wrote the premiere with Gilligan directing, while Breaking Bad alum Michelle McLaren helmed the second episode. Jonathan Banks reprises his role as unparalleled fixer Mike Ehrmantraut and there’s a Breaking Bad character who show’s up early on that will likely have the fan base buzzing (no, it’s not Walt or Jesse; Gilligan and Gould have already said that neither will make an appearance in the first season.) However, Saul also firmly establishes itself as its own entity. Ehrmantraut’s role is minimal, initially, and the relationship between Jimmy and Mike will likely be a slow burn.”

Esquire thinks that you’ll be happily surprised with the beginning episodes, unlike Breaking Bad.

“The first few episodes that I saw are better than Breaking Bad. They are smarter. They are sharper. I have never seen a prequel handled so cleverly. What we know from the previous series about Saul Goodman, or James McGill as he is known inBetter Call Saul, provides a kind of counterintuitive suspense mechanism. In the very first shot, in silent black and white, we see the ruins of Saul Goodman after the action ofBreaking Bad, just as he said he would be. He’s working at a Cinnabon in a mall, terrified of anyone slightly threatening who walks into the store. The question for the plot is: How did he become this way? How did he fail so catastrophically?”

The Huffington Post reveals that the biggest question the show looks to answer is “Who are you?”

“Better Call Saul” also asks similar questions that we’ve heard before in “Breaking Bad” and other epic shows like “The Sopranos.” Make no mistake, this show is all about identity. “Who are you?” James is frequently asked. Indeed, who is he? How does he become Saul? What finally breaks his resolve? This is a journey you’ll be all too willing to take, and you’ll have a blast along the way.

Variety believes that we’ll have to wait for the next few seasons before we can truly judge Better Call Saul.

“To be fair, the series is unlikely to ever approach the operatic highs of “Breaking Bad,” which also traced a middle-aged guy’s moral descent into darkness, but did so with the heightened stakes of a fatal diagnosis, a family and the notion of Mr. Chips becoming Scarface, as Gilligan has described it. And matching one of the great series ever is too much to ask.

Indeed, it seemed pretty obvious going in that this spinoff promised to be a narrower concept – and unlike “Breaking Bad,” the show won’t have the luxury of sneaking up on anybody. For now, “Saul” contains some attractive elements, fine moments and a fabulous pedigree, but even Jimmy/Saul might be forced to concede the jury’s still out in terms of proving it has the right formula.”

Entertainment Weekly points out the series packed with metaphors.

“Co-creator Vince Gilligan, who directed and co-wrote the pilot, packs the hour with clever metaphors for Jimmy. He can never get enough validation stamps for the courthouse parking attendant—Hey, look! It’s Mike (Jonathan Banks), Saul’s future fixer!—to let him exit and move forward. His car, a Suzuki Esteem, is beaten and yellow, just like his character, and he drives it recklessly. It’s only a matter of time before he hurts someone, and wrecks himself.”

Rob Gronkowski

We’ll be updating this post with new Gronk antics from the Patriots Parade today. We start with this first photo, a fan at the New England Patriots parade celebration party threw Rob Gronkowski a Busch Light. And Gronk drank it.

This was bound to happen. As was the spike he probably threw after finishing the beer.

Gronk’s antics now continue. We’re just getting started.

Now things are starting to progress wonderfully. Here we find Gronk with a little wardrobe change.

Now another fan seems to have thrown him a Bud Light. He opened it with his teeth and then spiked it on the ground. This is a can’t stop won’t stop kind of party that even we as New Yorkers can get behind.

AND NOW GRONK HAS RUN INTO THE CROWD! (via @brianapalma)

If you don’t know Felicity Jones‘ name yet, you will very soon. She’s been nominated for an Oscar for her role in The Theory of Everything. She also just signed on to be the lead actress in the new Star Wars (maybe you’ve heard of that series) spinoff movie.

All we know about the unnamed Star Wars flick is that it will be a standalone film and that Felicity probably beat out Tatiana Maslany and Rooney Mara for the role. (We’re also pretending like the rumors of Aaron Paul possibly being the male lead are fake.)

So let’s celebrate! The more Star Wars movies, the better–especially if they give rise to new Hollywood talent. Check out Felicity’s hottest GIFs below.

Jesse Boykins III

I can’t quite pin point exactly when i stumbled upon Jesse Boykins III, must’ve been through one of my indie or R&B Spotify stations – however, its been earful bliss ever since. An eclectic blend of Andre 3000 and D’Angelo, Jesse Boykins III offer a unique medley of both soulful and rhythmic vibes that caresses your ears and leaves you craving more. Here’s what critics have to say about his latest album.

Love Apparatus Album Reviews:

Pitchfork: Love Apparatus is a warm dreamy alum that easily allows you to get lost in its glow.

“It’s a quality of Boykins’ music that has carried over from his debut, which would have sounded right at home soundtracking a bossa nova club. But what’s impressive is that Boykins and Machinedrum have managed to maintain that atmosphere while distinctly digitizing his music. Now, you are eased into zoning out not by acoustic guitar strums and shakers, but by soft synth pads, misting keyboards and bass that feels like it burbles. This is the slow melting of neo-soul, as practiced similarly by newjacks (Toro Y Moi, Frank Ocean) and old heads (Om’Mas Keith, Bilal).”

NPR: Throughout the record, the singer’s breathy vocals are matched by Machinedrum’s production, which expands and retracts with Boykins’ every inhale and exhale.

“And so goes the entirety of the album. Boykins is by now a professional persuader: he persuades romantic interests to believe in him, to trust his ability to love; he persuades himself that his love is worthy; and he persuades us listeners to give him an honest shot, to accept all that he’s emoting, all those feelings he left out for us to consume.”

Allmusic: “B4 the Night Is Thru” still stands out, not just because it’s so appealing and hypnotic, but also because it’s the lone lucid track that would work on a dancefloor.

“Through these intimate or personal scenes that take place within a tempestuous relationship, Boykins displays remarkable range despite largely sticking to his breathy, gently pleading approach.”

Kendra Sunderland Pizza

Kendra Sunderland–aka the Oregon State University “adult star” who now famously filmed herself in a library–is certainly taking advantage of all the media attention. She recently uploaded a new video from the comfort of her own home where she orders pizza and flashes the deliveryman.

The “catch” is that she offers various favors to the deliveryman instead of paying cash for the pizza. Maybe that has something do with the fact that she’s actively searching for money pay for her legal fees.

Crazily enough, the guy turns her down–which leads us to believe that the video’s actually real and not a fake.

Poltergeist Reboot
After waiting around for those malevolent ghosts to make their way back to the big screen, our demonic prayers have finally been answered; earlier today, the first photos of the Poltergeist reboot surfaced online and were greeted by fans of the cult horror classic. This time around, the famous remake will be getting the 3D treatment and will hit theaters July 24, more than 30 years after its original release date. Director Gil Kenan – best known for his flick Monster House – promises that his modern-day reprise will do justice to the classic, but fans will remain skeptical until the film’s actual debut.

While it’s hard to give the benefit of the doubt, the first look – which features a still from the iconic “they’re here” scene – shows promise and will most likely contribute to the lack of sleep for the next few nights.

Alex Trebek Motley Crue
Jeopardy host Alex Trebek is beloved for a few reasons: his epic stache, the fact that he is the longest serving game show host in the US, and the amount of emotion behind his dramatic clue readings. In the video below, Trebek exemplifies the latter when perfectly annunciating the lyrics to Motley Crue’s “Girls, Girls, Girls.” While going through the lyrics, all we could picture was Trebek lounging in a pimp robe, smoking a cigar, and holding a glass of wine while the ’80s hit played in the background. It’s as equally disturbing as it is hilarious. Check it out below.

Hot Games of the Week Reviewed: February 2nd

Dying Light

The ghost of point-and-click adventure games rises again in Grim Fandango Remastered, the 1998 classic that’s now available on current systems.

As fun as it is to revisit the past, this week also brings a glimpse at the future of adventure games with Life is Strange, a high school-set story about a social outcast trying to make her way through the struggles of adolescence. Also, it wouldn’t be 2015 if hardly a week went by without a new zombie game slow-walking its way onto shelves, and Dying Light fits that bill.

Dying Light

Dying Light

(Xbox One, PS4, $60, Mature)

Buy Dying Light on PS4 | Xbox One

The latest open-world, first-person zombie saga picks up the mantle of Dead Island and beats the long-gestating H1Z1 to the punch. You roam a decaying, undead-infested environment, meeting other players online at random who stumble onto your server, scrapping for survival as you scrounge for limited resources. The environments are immaculately detailed and laden with crannies and hiding spots to use to your advantage. Enemies are expectedly dumb and slow, helping you feel like a master of your dilapidated surroundings.

The world’s vastness, though, works against it. You too often find yourself lost in the wilderness, with little idea of where to go or what to do. To enjoy Dying Light, you’ll need to be able to appreciate the vacuous feeling of stumbling around blind, paranoid that you can be jumped at any time. In that respect, it takes on the questing feel of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Feelings of loneliness and desperation plague you as you power through the zombie apocalypse. This is a place to spend time and explore rather than a game to attack and conquer.

Grim Fandango

Grim Fandango Remastered

(PS4, Vita, $15, Teen)

The 1998 film-noir-themed PC adventure game is one of those titles that everyone raves about but nobody plays. Now revamped with sharp graphics, sound and controls, the masses get to experience the classic in a far finer form than it had ever been offered. The gameplay does hold up — for what it is, at least — but shows its age in many ways. This is still very much a product of the 1990s, plagued with frustratingly stiff design that lacks the innovations Telltale games has brought to the genre.

Conquering the puzzles on your own may be more rewarding, but juggling the commands and inventory system can make tackling the game’s riddles more of a chore than it’s worth. Settle in, expect a grid, keep the walkthrough page on your browser open and you’ll be able to minimize the rough patches to appreciate the hilarious and haunting story. You help your hero, sort of a travel agent for the undead, untangle himself from a frame-up that could keep him from the rest and redemption he craves. Grim Fandango may not be quite as great as everyone remembers, but it’s still a worthwhile and entrancing piece of gaming history.

Life is Strange

Life is Strange: Episode 1

(PS4, Xbox One, $5, Mature)

Buy Life Is Strange for the PC now

Playing as a photography-obsessed high school girl both blessed and cursed with the ability to rewind time, you deal with bullies, cliques and oppressive adults as you unravel a mystery of a missing girl. Bursting with creativity and boldness at every turn, Life is Strange is unlike anything I’ve played. The mostly-dialogue, little-action playstyle is a refreshing change of pace from the norm, and the writing and graphics do a better job of capturing teen angst than say, Bully — one of the few other games to have attempted it.

The time-rewinding gimmick is fascinating and fun, but it gets repetitively applied, turning every situation into an automatic failure on the first attempt. Once you play things out and, say, hear the teacher mention the right answer that will coax him to let you out of class early, you go back and make the right choice to advance the story. But even when the game gets slow and difficult, its advances in gameplay make it worlds more user-friendly than the archaic likes of Grim Fandango. With the likes of The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and, now, Life is Strange leading the charge, the future of the adventure game is brighter than ever.

Complete List of 2015 Grammys Performers

There’ll be no Taylor Swift at this years 2015 Grammy Awards–but the Grammys folks have confirmed everyone else stopping by the show, in case you’re still trying to decide to stay in on Sunday night for something that isn’t the Super Bowl.

Katy Perry sure isn’t slowing down after the big game, and is set to perform her power ballad “By the Grace of God.” That probably means no sharks will be on hand. We’re not sure how sexy Beyoncé will be, either, since she’s performing the gospel song “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” as an intro to “Glory” from the Selma soundtrack.

Pharrell Williams and Sam Smith will take solo turns, with the bland Brit then daring to also do a song with Mary J. Blige.

Miranda Lambert has a solo turn, and so does Madonna, who’ll most like cram in some songs from Rebel Hearts, and we sure are sick of that #rebelhearts hashtag.

Kanye West is hitting the Grammys for the first time in six years, with both a solo performance and a turn alongside Paul McCartney and Rihanna for her new single “FourFiveSeconds.”

We don’t know what to expect from a supergroup consisting of Ed Sheeran, Herbie Hancock, John Mayer, and Questlove. We know what to expect from AC/DC’s performance, though–even if they’re missing guitarist Malcolm Young (too ill to tour) and drummer Phil Rudd (too weird to tour).

Ariana GrandeEric Church, and Sia are also all slated for solo performances, and here’s a list of duets:

Annie Lennox & Hozier
Adam Levine & Gwen Stefani
Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett
Tom Jones & Jessie J
Beck & Chris Martin
Brandy Clark & Dwight Yoakam

We can’t tell you when any of these artists appear during the show, of course, because the Grammys want you to suffer through every minute of the show when it airs on CBS on Sunday, Feb 8th at 8 pm EST. Sorry about that. We’ve got no influence with those Grammys types.

Gregg Popovich Says He Is Different Than Marshawn Lynch

Gregg Popovich

There are some parallels that can be drawn between San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch. One of the biggest ones would be the fact that neither seems interested in dealing with the media. However, Popovich isn’t a fan of the comparison and said in an interview with USA Today that he is very different than Lynch in that aspect.

“The only time I’m uncooperative is the end of the first or third quarter,” Popovich said. That is when the networks want to do their in-game interviews and Popovich is making it clear that those are the only times where he doesn’t want to talk. He wants to draw up his next plays for offense and defense and doesn’t want to be asked silly questions.

He has a point in that aspect but in an age where media wants to have complete access on and off the court to everything that is said and done, Popovich will never be happy with the interviews which won’t stop. Lynch on the other hand simply doesn’t want to the media ever so Popovich is different than him at the end of the day. Maybe the in-game interviews can stop though if Popovich asks very nicely.

Today in bizarre news, a Wisconsin woman was kicked out of her local McDonalds after bringing her baby kangaroo inside to share her meal. According to Diana Moyer, an officer escorted her off the premises with Jimmy, her eight-month-old kangaroo, after a fellow customer called the popo. Moyer explained that Jimmy was secured in a child’s car seat when the incident occurred, and expressed surprise since she’s frequented the establishment with Jimmy several times.

Despite what she had to say, officers still made her leave the restaurant. Next time Diana, just go through the drive-thru.

Sigma Phi Epsilon Tucker Hipps death

Clemson University announced that it had suspended the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity following the death of student Tucker Hipps. The five year suspension was officially given due to alleged chapter violations of the university’s student organization conduct code (which includes hazing).

Clemson began the investigation after 19-year-old Tucker Hipps–who had been pledging Sigma Phi Epsilon–had been found dead in Lake Hartwell. Previously Tucker had been missing since an early morning run with his pledge brothers.

The investigation into Tucker’s death is still ongoing, but TigerNet is reporting that Tucker allegedly fell off a bridge.

Sigma Phi Epsilon’s suspension is not final and is subject to appeal, but no appeal has yet been filed.

Take care of your brothers, brothers.
