Traci Redford, the mother of a five-year-old girl named Abcde Redford (pronounced ab-city), has accused a Southwest Airlines employee of “name shaming” her daughter.

According to Redford, an unidentified Southwest Airlines agent allegedly mocked her daughter after reading her boarding pass. The Southwest agent also uploaded a picture of the boarding pass to Facebook.

The incident reportedly happened on Sunday, November 4, as the pair boarded a flight to El Paso, Texas, at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California.

Additionally, Redford says that her daughter Abcde suffers from epilepsy, meaning the family always pre-boards flights.

“The gate agent started laughing, pointing at me and my daughter, talking to other employees. So I turned around and said, ‘Hey if I can hear you, my daughter can hear you, so I’d appreciate if you’d just stop,'” Traci Redford said.

“While I was sitting there, she took a picture of my boarding pass and chose to post it on social media, mocking my daughter. It was actually brought to my attention by somebody who had seen it on Facebook and reported it to Southwest Airlines. And after two weeks of doing a formal complaint, Southwest hadn’t done anything,” said Redford.

Southwest Airlines provided the following statement to ABC about the incident:

“We extend our sincere apology to the family. We take great pride in extending our Southwest Hospitality to all of our Customers, which includes living by the Golden Rule and treating every individual with respect, in person or online. The post is not indicative of the care, respect, and civility we expect from all of our Employees.

We have followed up with the Employee involved, and while we do not disclose personnel actions publicly, we are using this as an opportunity to reinforce our policies and emphasize our expectations for all Employees.”

At this time, it is not clear whether or not the Southwest Airlines employee has been disciplined.

Purdue University — the home to over 40,000 students in West Lafayette, Indiana — is a fine school by all means.

But just because Purdue is an academic institution does not mean that they are impervious to accidents.

Earlier this week, routine maintenance and repairs were being performed on a university clock tower when the clock, which was hanging from a crane, dropped and fell nearly 160 feet.

According to WQAD 8, two of the construction on the scene are “lucky to still be alive” after the accident.

A bell tower at Purdue University was undergoing a renovation project that involved installing a clock face. The clock was hanging from a crane when it dropped, falling nearly 160 feet.

In the video, you can see the clock fall several feet before hitting the deck of a cherry picker the workers were standing on. The massive time piece then toppled off of the platform, hitting the tower on the way down before smashing to the ground below.

Surprisingly, neither of the workers were injured.

Additionally, a report from WLFI reporter Trevor Peters says that The Verdin Company was contracted for the renovation. According to Peters, The Verdin Company says there were no injuries and that they are reviewing the incident at this time

“We want to express our sincerest apology to Purdue University regarding the damage to their clock. We will continue to work with Purdue University to ensure 100% customer satisfaction by replacing the damaged clock,” the company’s full statement read.

Despite the fact that three months have passed since the tragic death of 26-year-old Mac Miller, it still doesn’t necessarily feel real. Miller — born Malcolm James McCormick — passed away in his home in Studio City, California, on Friday, September 7, due to what was ruled an accidental overdose.

However, despite the fact that it’s been a quarter of a year since Mac’s untimely passing, his presence remains as strong as ever.

Just this week, Spotify just released Mac Miller’s Spotify Singles, a two-track EP that features an acoustic, live-recording of his Swimming hit “Dunno” and a cover of the Grammy-nominated 1974 Billy Preston hit “Nothing From Nothing.”

But maybe even better then the release of his new music is the discovery is his Finstagram account, @cloudywithachanceofawesome69.

The account — which only has 10 posts that were posted in July 2017 — shows off the well-renowned humor of the late rapper, as he dons the alter-ego “Lars”, who appears to be a very serious professional vaper.

Hueytown Jail

Erron Martez Dequan Brown, 20, has been identified as the true suspect in the Riverchase Galleria mall shooting that took place around 10 p.m. on Thursday, November 22. After the shooting, police mistakenly shot and killed 21-year-old former United States Army officer Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr.

After Brown shot an 18-year-old and a 12-year-old girl in the Riverchase Galleria Mall, police shot and killed Bradford Jr, thinking that he was the gunman.

However, while police initially believed that Bradford Jr. was the shooter, investigators determined that he was not the gunman after conducting forensic tests and talking to witnesses.

Police eventually arrested Brown on the morning of Thursday, November 29, in Georgia, acting on a tip that Brown was staying with relatives in South Fulton, Georgia.

Following his arrest, he was taken to the Fulton County jail to await extradition back to Alabama. His bond is currently set at $125,000.

Brown has since been charged with attempted murder.

The warrant was issued Wednesday for Erron Martez Dequan Brown, 20, in the shooting. He is charged with attempted murder in the shooting of Brian Wilson, the friend of Emantic “EJ” Bradford Jr., 21, who was shot and killed by police after Wilson was shot. His bond is set at $125,000.

The U.S. Marshals Service confirmed to AL.com Brown has been arrested in South Fulton. Brown, who lives in north Birmingham, was quickly identified as a suspect in the Nov. 22 shooting of Brian Wilson. Authorities withheld his identity while law enforcement officers searched for him.

The U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Georgia was assisted by Alabama’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Authorities said they captured Erron Martez Brown, 20, about 9:30 a.m. Thursday on Highwind Way in South Fulton.

The Hoover Police Department said that they are conducting an internal investigation into the shooting and that the officer involved, who still remains unidentified, has been placed on administrative leave.

Studies from Rutgers University might have a new explanation on why the rise of police violence against black men is apparent in the United States. This research was done by Rutger’s School of Public Health and the results are a fresh input to this controversial topic.

What Happened?

Rutger’s School of Public Health has discovered that the media’s portrayal of black men as dangerous people are factors that influence police forces to believe that it reflects on the persona of black men in reality. Another factor is the public’s perception of the ranges of protocols police act at the scene, as legitimate and called for.

Lead author Pamela Valera, an assistant professor comments, “Unarmed black Americans are five times more likely to be shot and killed by police than unarmed white Americans. We believe that media may play a significant role in these disproportionate deaths,” she said. “The stereotypes held, consciously or unconsciously, about the criminality and ‘dangerousness’ of black men influence the rates at which they are stopped and engaged by the police.”

In other words, Professor Valera is proposing that the media portrayal of black men to the public as “hypermasculinity, criminality, and hypersexuality” are what’s deepening the prejudice and discrimination towards them. This falsely portrayed the nature of black men raised conscious/unconscious fear in the American police force, leading to the increase of stopping and questioning them.

To prove her point, she mentions the contributing factors to their research, including the scrutiny of past cases of erroneous deaths, such as Michael Brown. Michael Brown was an unarmed teenager in Ferguson, Missouri who was shot to death by Darren Wilson.  In this case, researchers studied the linguistics used in three renowned newspapers (New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post) during their coverage of the story. What they found was staggering. Eureka Alert cites,

“The newspapers depicted Brown through Wilson’s testimony as a man of large physical size with uncontrollable aggression, but neglected the fact that the two men were of comparable size. For example, one account describes how Wilson compares himself holding on to Brown’s arm to “a 5-year-old trying to hold on to Hulk Hogan.”

The newspaper’s tone to describe Brown’s socioeconomic class and neighborhood were also derogative. With descriptions such as “trappings of a working-class haven” with an “edge of frustration and anger,” Brown was put in a negative spotlight through the words of someone who didn’t know him for who he was.

But why does the media portray it that way?

Professor Valera answers, “Newspapers use sensational words to get hits. However, the words they used depicted Brown as a monster,” Valera said. “Language is critical to public perception. The media should tone down emotion in its reporting.”

If that’s the case, would this account for what Trump loves to say, “fake news”? Does the false portrayal of black men in the media justify why there is police brutality towards black men? By toning down the emotion in news reporting, what does that say about the future of news reporting and more relevantly, our first amendment to free speech?

This is a crisis Professor Valera recognizes that it won’t just settle on its own. She says, “This is just one snapshot of a larger, ongoing problem of aggression toward black men based on racial bias perpetuated by negative stereotypes in the media,” said Valera. “Since the perceptions that Wilson held of Brown are indicative of more general attitudes of black men, it is vital that police be engaged in more intensive training to become aware of the stereotypes and implicit biases they hold, especially regarding the communities with which they have constant contact.”

Dr. Valera is an Assistant Professor in the School of Public Health and is also an affiliated member of the School of Social Work at Rutgers University. Pamela Valera earned her Ph.D. in social work from the University of South Carolina as well as a postdoctoral research fellowship in human immunodeficiency virus prevention in Columbia University. She also had a one-year clinical fellowship in cancer health disparities from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

She has several years of experience being in the NIH-funded research in cancer health disparities at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Department of Epidemiology and Population Health, and Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Her main research focuses on developing cancer health education programs for studying cancer prevention and smoking among men in the criminal justice system.

Madison Gesiotto, born on March 20, 1992, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is an attorney, a columnist for The Hill, a commentator who has appeared on Fox News, and Trump Campaign Advisory Board member, and a Former Miss Ohio USA.

While Gesiotto was born in Pittsburgh, she grew up in Ohio and attended Jackson Local Schools in Massillon, Ohio.

In 2014, at the age of 22-years-old, Gesiotto represented Ohio at the 2014 Miss USA competition in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Also in 2014, Gesiotto graduated with honors from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.

After undergraduate school, Gesiotto attended the Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University and graduated in 2017 with a juris doctorate degree. While in law school at the Moritz College of Law, Gesiotto was a staff editor for The Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law.

In a 2017 appearance on Hannity, Gesiotto claimed to have been the Regional Press Secretary for half of the country during President Trump’s presidential campaign.

Currently, Gesiotto writes a weekly column called “Millennial Mindset” for The Washington Times. Additionally, she is a columnist for the political website The Hill and an occasional commentator on Fox News programs.

Gesiotto, a pro-life advocate, once controversially described abortion as “the number one killer of black Americans.”

A Central Connecticut State University police officer was fired due to accusations of sexual assault towards his co-worker. With reports of sexual harassment being a major issue, the university decided to ramp up its effort in restoring order and trust in its security department.

What Happened?

Officer Curtis Lollar was fired due after reports of sexual assault that stemmed from 2013-14, were finalized according to Hartford Courant. A female campus officer went to her lieutenant and told him that she was sexually assaulted by another member of the department, which was Lollar. He was accused of sexually assaulting her three times over the course of a year that started in 2013. However, during the time of the assault, the victim did not file a report on this incident.  According to My Record Journal, when asked why, she claimed that she had moved on from the incident.

No charges have been filed in connection with the alleged assault.

Getting to the bottom of this, a report done by the University said that the behavioral and staffing issue in the police department was “fraternity-like” and was riddled with “pervasive use of inappropriate gender labels.”  To combat this, the university tasked Bernard Sullivan, a retired public safety commissioner and former Hartford police chief to identify and correct policies, procedures, training and more.

“He has worked with us to identify deficiencies, address critical issues, and instituted several new policies and procedures. The culture within the Police Department is improving, and I am confident this will continue as our police force works to regain its stature as a professional, caring partner in making the CCSU campus a safe and welcoming environment for all,” Central Connecticut State University President Zulma R. Toro announced in a statement to FOX 61.

In accordance with Lollar’s departure, the school official who oversaw the police department, Chief Administrative Officer Richard Bachoo, was also placed on leave due to an investigation.

Here is the proposed plan cited by FOX 61, that is set to be implemented:

Training

• Since July 2018, all Police Department supervisors attended a two-hour, in-person sexual harassment prevention training.
• In September, several police officers attended a training about strategies for working with sexual violence victims.
• The entire department will undergo sexual harassment and Title IX training while the University is on winter break.
• Supervisors will undergo training in areas such as evaluating staff and using progressive discipline and positive reinforcement with subordinates to enhance performance.

Policies & Procedures

• A new disciplinary policy is in place requiring police supervisors to review employee personnel files prior to issuing any counseling or discipline. This will ensure they are aware of any prior offenses and any discipline is reflected in evaluations. The police chief is required to conduct an annual inspection to ensure these procedures are compliant.
• A new background investigation sign-off has been implemented requiring multiple layers of review. It provides solid documentation as to the candidate’s position and prevents any single individual from having the final approval for hiring.
• Pre-background questionnaires will require candidate signatures to be notarized and affirmed as truthful. This will make it easier to decertify officers if, later, facts reveal the candidate was untruthful.

Staffing & Budget

• The Police Department budget has been separated from the Administrative Services budget and is receiving $282,000 annually in additional funding.
• A new police sergeant will be hired.
• Two vacant police officer positions are being reclassified to positions of sergeants.
• Two vehicles will be purchased for the two new sergeants.
• The student cadet program is hiring five or more additional students.
• Three police recruits were hired in July, have been undergoing training at the Police Academy in Meriden, and will begin full-time duty in January 2019.
• A full-time, seasoned administrative assistant was reassigned to work with the department.
• A clerk typist position has been converted to an administrative assistant position.

According to My Record Journal, President Toro spoke to the police department staff, Thursday morning.

“I realize the reputation of the CCSU Police Department has been tarnished by our investigations,” she told them, according to a school statement. “The poor choices and actions of a few — which I assure you we are dealing with — do not represent the good work and dedication of the entire department.”

Ski Mask The Slump God is set to cap off a big 2018 with his latest release “Stokeley” dropping on Friday, November 30. A former University of Nebraska-Lincoln student has sued the school’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter for an alleged rape that happened on Monday, October 22.

According to the lawsuit — which was filed in the Lancaster County District Court on Wednesday, November 21 — the unnamed victim says that she was sexually assaulted at one of SAE’s off-campus parties on October 22. The woman claims that the fraternity served her alcohol “to the point where she could no longer take care of herself.

Additionally, the woman says that she woke up at the SAE house on the morning of Tuesday, October 23 “to find she had been sexually assaulted by an unknown assailant.” The lawsuit states that the unknown assailant was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Furthermore, the lawsuit states that other members of the fraternity who were present “did not attempt to prevent the sexual assault.”

According to The Daily Nebraskan, the plaintiff said that she did not remember how she got back to campus after the party and that she reported the sexual assault to the UNL Police Department the next morning at 8:48 a.m.

The woman, who is seeking out undisclosed damages for mental and physical injuries and is also asking for $3,000 to cover her medical bills from the alleged sexual assault, also said that the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity failed to implement policies to protect women in cases like hers.

The alleged sexual assault at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is just the latest in a string of sexually-related crimes that have occurred on college campuses over the years, especially at fraternities.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Assistant Police Chief Hassan Ramzah said the police department is actively investigating the report at this time but did not provide further details.

Two Nebraskan men with goals of landing in an airport at Fulton County, Georgia landed themselves in a hospital instead when their plane engine died and crashed into a university campus. Both men were reported to be fine and are currently recovering from minor injuries.

Students from Kennesaw State University got a good scare of their lives when a loud, cacophonous noise startled them witless. Some thought it was gunshots, while others thought it was an unfortunate car crash. But what really happened was an engine failure that led to a plane crashing down on their campus.

In an interview, Kelly Kozusko told Fox 5, “We were actually just getting out of my car and heard a loud noise and we turned around, saw a little flash of light, so we were really confused,” she said. “I thought it was a bottle rocket or something like we didn’t think anything major of it just, it scared us so but we didn’t think it was anything this crazy.”

Another witness thought it was gunshots.

“What I heard was a loud crash, you know, I thought it was a gunshot, so I locked all the doors and then I started to hear sirens which got me really worried,”  a witness who lives nearby said. “It was close to my house and it could have crashed on my house with me inside.”

When officers got news of the crash, they rushed to the crash site near the intersection of Campus Loop Rd. and Bartow Ave. There, the plane was resting next to a bed of trees it crashed into. Officers rescued the two men trapped in the vehicle, who were still alert and breathing. They were immediately sent to WellStar Kennestone Hospital.

Cobb County Fire Department spokesperson Denell Boyd later issued a statement that says the two men were in a Cirrus SR22 plane from Omaha, Nebraska and were en route to an airport in Fulton County. No one on campus was hurt and there was no damage to any buildings. When checked with the Federal Aviation Administration, it was found that the plane was registered to Cavern Aviation LLC of Lenexa, Kansas.

Kennesaw State University also issued an official statement to this crash on Thursday night.

“Kennesaw State University officials confirm that at approximately 7:00 p.m. this evening, a small plane crashed on the Kennesaw Campus at the intersection of Campus Loop Rd. and Bartow Ave. Kennesaw State Police Officers were on the scene to assist the Cobb County Fire Department. The two occupants of the plane were conscious and alert and transported to an area hospital. There were no injuries to any KSU students, faculty, or staff. There are no reports of any damage to any buildings. The Kennesaw State Campus will be open and fully operational on Friday, Nov 30.”

The Tax Collector is a particularly interesting role for LaBeouf, as the film is directed by David Ayer, the dude who wrote Training Day and directed End Of Watch and Fury.

A 1-year-old child who was shot in the leg and a 3-year-old in the chest was sent to the hospital after a motorist shot them outside the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Police say that this attack was intentional.

What Happened?

Two small children of the age of 1 and 3 were injured on Thursday, November 29, 2018, when the perpetrator in a Nissan sedan fired multiple shots at them. The two children were in a grey Honda with their mother. The 1-year-old was shot in the leg and the 3-year-old was shot in the chest. Their mother rushed them into the medical center where hours later, were reported to be in stable conditions.

According to KLFY,  when the shots were fired, UMMC immediately sent an active shooter text alert that said: “there was an active shooter at Parking Garage B. This is not a drill.”

The suspect fled in a black Nissan sedan that had a Cannon Motors paper tag and is still on the loose, the chief said on Thursday evening. The mother told authorities that she did not know who the shooter was, and Police Chief Davis said he is not discounting domestic dispute as a reason.

Davis also said to Mississippi Clarion-Ledger that the police “saturated this area” when they got the call, labeling the shooting as “senseless.” He also reassured everyone that officers were working hard to obtain surveillance footage from UMMC for any possible details about how the shooting transpired and where the shooter might have fled to.

U.S. marshals and the FBI also responded to the scene and are assisting in this investigation.

Authorities closed down State Street for over an hour so detectives could collect shell casings and other evidence from the crime scene.

Governor Phil Bryant also issued a statement to this shooting on twitter. “We are thankful there was no active shooter situation at UMMC. Now, the investigation begins to find who committed this terrible crime. Please pray for the young children that were injured,”

An investigative reporter for WAPT asks a relative of the victims about the incident.

“It’s a terrible experience for a family to have to go through and hopefully someone has seen something and come forward with information.” She said. “People can be very terrible and do some crazy things, I mean who would shoot at children?”

There is currently a statewide search for the suspect and Police Chief Davis is also asking anyone with information about the suspect or vehicle to call (601) 960-1234.

The Theta Chi fraternity at the University of Wisconsin has announced their intention to end their participation as a registered student organization at UW-Madison.

According to the fraternity’s press release, the decision was made due to what they call a “lack of due process regarding misconduct allegations.”

The Theta Chi chapter claims that the Wisconsin Division of Student Life found numerous “unsubstantiated findings” when they conducted an into various allegations against the fraternity.

The fraternity says that despite their decision, the chapter will continue to be active in the community, and members will be expected to follow the international fraternity’s rules, regulations and guidelines.

“After protracted but futile attempts to work with university officials regarding allegations of misconduct by the Psi Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity, the chapter has decided to end its participation as a registered student organization at the University of Wisconsin.

“Theta Chi evaluated its experience with the university’s due process, and the resulting strain it has put on its members in Madison, and made the difficult decision to remove itself from formal university recognition,” the statement reads.

The disaffiliation of Theta Chi at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is the latest major Greek life suspension, expulsion, disaffiliation, or overhaul in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State, and Penn State have all suspended fraternities for various reasons.

Fraternities have been suspended or expelled across the nation as Greek life organizations and universities attempt to grapple with the pitfalls of hazing, alcohol and drug abuse, and sexual assault.

Schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State, and Penn State have all suspended or expelled fraternities for various reasons.

The United States Geological Survey reports that a 6.7 magnitude earthquake has just hit Anchorage, Alaska. Some reports indicate that the magnitude of the Earthquake went as high as 7.2.

The quake — which had a reported depth of 26.7 miles — hit south of Point MacKenzie, Alaska. The epicenter of the quake was located 7 miles from Anchorage, which is the largest city in Alaska with an approximate population of 290,000 people.

At this time, the National Weather Service of Anchorage has said because of the aftershock, the Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami warning for all of the Cook Inlet.

At this time, no injuries, fatalities, or major structural damage has been reported.

The Earthquake was first reported by the United States Geological Survey, which is a scientific agency of the United States government that studies the landscape of the United States, its natural resources, and the natural hazards that threaten it.
