A bus carrying over 50 members of the University of Washington marching band rolled onto its side as it was on the way to the team’s game on Thursday, November 22. The bus were traveling to the Apple Cup in Pullman against Washington State University.

According to the Washington State Patrol and the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the bus — which was one of three that were transporting University of Washington band members — was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 around 5:20 p.m. local time when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Of the 56 band members on the bus, nearly 40 people were injured.

Speaking to The Seattle Times, Trooper John Bryant said that no serious injuries had been reported. Additionally, Bryant said state troopers, paramedics and local deputies from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

Victor Balta, a spokesman for the University of Washington, said that while the injuries included cuts, back pain and complaints of general pain, none of them were considered “critical.”

“The university is doing everything it can to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff, and to get them safely back on their journey to Pullman,” Balta said in an email.

The crash was reported at 5:26 p.m. on eastbound I-90 at mile post 146, about 3 miles west of George, according to Bryant. The charter bus Thursday night was not blocking the freeway, but was blocking a frontage road, he said.

Bryant initially said there were three charter buses carrying band members, and up to 25 people were injured, but later amended that to six buses with at least 40 to 45 people sent to area hospitals. The bus that rolled was the third bus in the group, he said in a tweet.

The University of Washington Huskies will take on their rival Washington State Cougars in the Apple Cup on Friday, November 23, in Pullman, Washington.

There are weird glares from drivers when you are rocking out to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” But, Christmas is so magical and heartwarming for every family we can’t help but celebrate a little early. So, we must ask the question. Is it okay to start celebrating Christmas Early?

Christmas is one of those holidays that everyone can’t get enough of. There are dedicated Christmas stores that are open all year round. Then the mythical story of Santa Clause in the North Pole. Spoiler alert, Santa isn’t real, but the story to all is real. Holding in the magic of being good and being gifted with presents. The magic of Rudolph and the other reindeer. And even the magic of having your whole family around to celebrate a wonderful holiday. That excitement can’t be held in, it needs to be released and not just for December.

December, 31 days but only 25 days to get prepared and celebrate Christmas. That’s not enough time, that’s why people want to celebrate right after Halloween. But, there is a negative viewpoint on this with forgetting Thanksgiving which is another important holiday. Maybe, the appropriate time to start celebrating Christmas is the day after Thanksgiving.

Studies have shown that celebrating Christmas early will make you happier. Putting the Christmas tree up, baking cookies, listening to happy Christmas music puts you in a better mood. It makes sense of wanting to celebrate early because it is a bright and magical holiday that brings a smile to your face. So, wouldn’t you want to be happy and forget about the people who are judging you?

In all honesty, celebrate Christmas whenever you want. You could start celebrating after Halloween, after Thanksgiving, or be that person who leaves up their Christmas tree all year long. There is no judgment. As long as it makes you happy. But, if you disagree with us, we want to bring one example that backs up our point. After Halloween, Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts change their menu to Christmas themed. If coffee can celebrate Christmas early, so can we!

Southeast Missouri State University has suspended the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity due to alleged code of conduct violations. Those violations are reportedly alcohol-related.

According to the university’s Greek Life Student Organization Conduct website, the Pi Kappa Alpha chapter allegedly violated five sections of the Southeast Missouri State University code of student conduct related to alcohol.

The Herald-Whig reports that chapter president Sean McDowell said there were multiple allegations against the organization and members of the organization and that the alleged incidents reportedly happened during the 2018 fall semester.

As a result of the suspension, the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity is not allowed to participate in university activities with other fraternities and sororities until February 1, 2019. Additionally, the fraternity may not have new members join until that date.

After the Pi Kappa Alpha suspension is up, the fraternity will be placed in a probationary period from June 1 to December 22, 2019.

The closure of Pi Kappa Alpha at Southeast Missouri State University is the latest major Greek life suspension, expulsion, or overhaul in the last year, as schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State, and Penn State have all suspended fraternities for various reasons.

Fraternities have been suspended or expelled across the nation as Greek life organizations and universities attempt to grapple with the pitfalls of hazing, alcohol and drug abuse, and sexual assault.

Schools such as Indiana University, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Texas State, Florida State, Ball State, Louisiana State, and Penn State have all suspended or expelled fraternities for various reasons.

Mixed martial arts fans are in for a treat. On Saturday, November 24, it was announced that a matchup between all-time great and former champion Anderson Silva will be facing up-and-coming fan favorite Israel Adesanya on UFC 234.

Brett Okamoto of ESPN was first to report the news.

The matchup brings to of the most impressive and exciting strikers to ever step inside of the Octagon.

Adesanya has taken the MMA world by storm, hauling off four consecutive wins under the UFC banner leading to a 15-0 record. His UFC debut came at UFC 221 on February 11, 2018 with a second-round TKO win over Rob Wilkinson in Perth, Australia. The win earned “Stylebender” a Performance of the Night bonus. On November 3, 2018, Adesanya faced his biggest challenge to date against Derek Brunson at UFC 230 in New York City where he earned a first-round TKO win and another Performance of the Night bonus.

A woman named Masin Elijè has posted a Twitter thread accusing Washington Wizards center Dwight Howard of allegedly “sleeping with” an alleged transgender prostitute.

A Twitter thread posted by Masin Elijè at 9:44 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, claims that she was in a relationship (she called Howard her “ex-boyfriend”) with former NBA All-Star Dwight Howard and that he “slept with” an alleged transgender prostitute.

Elijè, who is a published author, is also a transgender woman.

The Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority chapter will be returning to the Penn State University campus next spring following a five-year hiatus from the school.

According to Onward State, the Penn State chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma was closed by its national organization back in 2013 due to low recruitment numbers.

Prior to the closure, Tri Sig had been on the Penn State campus for 25 years. After the chapter was shut down five years ago, the Tri Sig national organization immediately began planning a return to Penn State.

According to Tri Sig Director of Growth Initiatives Katelyn Whitty, the sorority’s return came earlier than expected at the university’s request due to fewer chapters on campus and an unchanged level of interest in sorority recruitment.

“We’re going to fit in as much as we can into the Panhellenic community,” Whitty said. “But we want to stand out in those ways that are really great: providing leadership opportunities, providing leadership development programming, giving them a place they can grow, and to decide what their traditions will be here at Penn State.”

Tri Sig works with the Sigma Serves Children, which partners with March of Dimes to provide prenatal care and pediatric assistance. Because the chapter is reopening at Penn State, leadership positions are wide open for potential new members.

“I think the best part of being in a new chapter at a large and old school like Penn State is being able to write yourself into the history,” said Ellen Elmore, Tri Sig’s assistant director of new chapter growth. “Thinking about charter classes from 50, 60, or 100 years ago, you get to be that for Tri Sigma here.”

Sigma Sigma Sigma’s formal sorority recruitment for the Panhellenic Council begins on January 29, 2019, and Bid Day is scheduled for February 18, 2019.

Claire is a member of the Alpha Phi sorority on campus.

Alpha Phi was founded in 1872 at Syracuse University as the first women’s sorority in the northeast. In the ensuing 144 years, Alpha Phi has grown into one of the largest and most popular sororities in the United States. Alpha Phi is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference.

Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr. has been identified as the 21-year-old United States Army officer that was shot and killed by police around 10 p.m. on Thursday, November 22, in the Riverchase Galleria mall.

According to reports, Bradford was shot and killed by a Hoover Police Department at the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover, Alabama, which is a Birmingham suburb.

At the time of the shooting, police said that Bradford got into an altercation at the mall and opened fire, injuring two people ages 18 and 12. However, it was later revealed that Bradford was not the shooter and that the true gunman remained at large.

While police initially believed that Bradford Jr. was the shooter, investigators determined that he was not the gunman after conducting forensic tests and talking to witnesses.

“This information indicates that there is at least one gunman still at large,” Hoover Police Capt. Gregg Rector said.

At this time, the true gunman is still at large and police have not provided a name or description.

Police say it [the shooting] started with a confrontation. An 18-year-old was shot twice in the torso, and a 12-year-old girl, a bystander, was shot once, Rector said. Both were taken to hospitals.

A Hoover police officer who was working security at the mall confronted an armed man running from the scene and fatally shot him, authorities said. But the next day, Hoover police released a statement that the man they confronted and shot, Bradford, was no longer believed to have fired the shots that hit the two people.

That police would so quickly rescind their account is unusual, former FBI Assistant Director Thomas Fuentes said Saturday. But because new information pointed to a gunman on the loose, they had to do so for the public’s sake, he said.

In the days following the deadly shooting, the Hoover community has rallied around Bradford Jr.’s family, as over 200 people joined them in a protest outside of the mall, demanding action.

Following the shooting, the Hoover Police Department said they are conducting an internal investigation and that the officer involved, who still remains unidentified, has been placed on administrative leave.

Bradford Jr’s family has reportedly hired a prominent civil rights lawyer in the aftermath of Emantic’s death.

The New Berlin Police Department has tweeted that they are currently on scene of a “tactical situation” near South Calhoun Rd and West National Ave. Authorities reportedly arrived on the scene around 9 a.m. on Monday.

Police have asked civilians to avoid the area. At this time, that is all the information available. Police have yet to further elaborate on what they mean by ‘tactical situation.’

On the Sunday, November 25 episode of the long-running reality series Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim — who is now a 38-year-old (!!) mother-of-three (!!) –admitted to being high on ecstasy when she both married music producer Damon Thomas and while she made her legendary sex tape with Ray J (who hit it first).

“I got married on ecstasy—the first time. I did ecstasy once, I got married. I did it again, I made a sex tape,” Kim tells half-sister Kendall Jenner and Scott Disick, who is her older sister Kourtney’s ex-husband.

“You were high on ecstasy when you had that sex tape?” Disick replies, sounding shocked.

“Absolutely. Everyone knows it. Like, my jaw was shaking the whole time,” Kim says back.

As much as it pains us to say it, this admission from Kim is rather … ugh … interesting (using ‘interesting’ and ‘Kardashian’ in the same sentence just cost me about 30,000 brain cells).

First of all, there was *NO* reason to (other than to go viral, of course). As far as we know, no one ever publicly accused her of being on drugs during the tape, the tape is almost 15 years old, and she now has three (!!) kids walking the Earth.

Like … it’s not enough that Saint, North, and Chicago have to grow up knowing that there is a sex tape of their mother out there, but now they’re burdened with the knowledge that she was on some pretty serious drugs at the time, too.

Is this a calculated move by the Kardashians to drop *this* admission at *this* time? Probably, considering that most of what they do is calculated (as they say, the devil works hard, but Kris Jenner works harder). But still, it’s a shocking admission from a 38-year-old mother of three on national television. Needless to say, it was a bold move, Cotton.

Vernita Lee, Oprah Winfrey’s mother, has died at the age of 83-years-old. Lee passed away at her home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on Thursday, November 22, 2018.

Lee, who was born on was born on May 2, 1935, gave birth to Oprah Winfrey when she was just a teenager on January 29, 1954, in Kosciusko, Mississippi.

Despite being born into poverty, Winfrey has grown up to be one of the most successful businesswomen in the world, having earned the title of “Queen of All Media”.

The richest African American of the 20th century, Winfrey was North America’s first black multi-billionaire.

Lee is is survived by her daughters Oprah Winfrey and Patricia Amanda Faye Lee, grandchildren Alisha Hayes, Chrishaunda Lee Perez, Aquarius Lofton and Andre Brown and great-grandchildren Jaxon Praise Perez, Chai Theresa Perez, Donovan Hayes, and Trinity Hayes.

The body of 18-year-old woman Samantha Guthrie — who was last seen on Sunday, November 4 — was recovered by New Franklin police officers in the woods near Rex Hill Road in Akron, Ohio on Saturday, November 44. While police have not officially announced the identity of the deceased, Guthrie’s father posted to Facebook on Sunday, November 25, saying that his daughter was found dead.

At the time of this writing, the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Ofice is expected to carry out an autopsy on Gutherie on Monday, November 26, to determine the cause and manner of death.

“Samantha has been found as of this morning. Please give the family time to start the grieving process. We are forever grateful for all of the love and support through this devastating time,” John Guthrie’s Facebook post read.

Prior to the discovery of her body, Guthrie was last seen in the early hours of the morning of Sunday, November 4 at a house in the 300 block of Lillian Street.

The body was found in a wooded area off Rex Hill Road, Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards said. The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation led the crime scene investigation. A BCI spokesperson did not return a phone call Sunday seeking more information.

Edwards said no more details would be released until after the medical examiner’s office releases its findings. New Franklin police are also working the case.

Rex Hill Road is a 1.5-mile stretch that runs west off West Turkeyfoot Lake Road then juts south, running mostly parallel to Manchester Road. A large wooded area runs along most of the east side of the road, not far from a housing development off Manchester Road. The road’s west side includes a swampy area abutting the Tuscarawas River to the north and all industrial zoned properties owned by Cleveland and Pittsburgh firms.

Following Guthrie’s disappearance, police arrested four people who they believed were with Guthrie before she disappeared.

38-year-old Akron resident William Alexander was arrested on charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence and had his bail set at $100,000.

Court records indicate that Alexander admitted to investigating detectives that he was present at the Lillian Street house when Guthrie was shot and admitted to putting Guthrie’s body in the trunk of a Mitsubishi Eclipse so she could be moved to the wooded area where she was eventually found.

Furthermore, Dylan Brown, 39, Danny Hamby, 19, and Toni Kenney, 31, were all charged with tampering with evidence and obstructing justice. Additionally, Brown and Kenny are facing counts of drug possession and carrying concealed weapons, respectively.

According to News 5 Cleveland, Brown confessed to being present when Guthrie was shot, moving the body, tearing up living room carpet, cleaning the floor and putting his bloody clothes in a bin.

As of Monday, November 26, all four remained in custody at the Summit County Jail.

Cole Fisher, the nephew of Texas A&M football head coach Jimbo Fisher, has been identified as the person who punched LSU Tigers administrative assistant Steve Kragthorpe in his pacemaker during a fight that broke out in the aftermath of the Aggies thrilling 74-72 seven-overtime victory over LSU.

According to reports, Fisher punched the 53-year-old Kragthorpe in the chest after a fight broke out on the field after Texas A&M’s victory over LSU. Kragthorpe, who is an offensive analyst of the LSU Tigers, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2011 and has had a pacemaker in his chest to stimulate his brain in 2017.

Kragthorpe was looked at by Texas A&M team doctor Jesse Parr and emergency medical personnel after the incident and was determined to be fine.

While the credentialed assailant was initially unidentified, the man was later identified as Cole Fisher, the nephew of Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher, who is in his first year with the SEC team. Cole is reportedly an undergraduate football student manager at the university.

Cole attended Robert C. Byrd High in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and in 2016, according to The Exponent Telegram, he signed a letter of intent to play football at Glenville State College — a Division II university in Glenville, West Virginia.

Cole never participated in any games at Glenville State College, and according to multiple sources, attended football events at Florida State while Jimbo Fisher was the head coach, although Cole was never formally a part of the coaching staff.

Cole’s role on the Texas A&M sideline is uncertain, and he is not listed on the athletic department’s official staff directory.

According to The Daily Advertiser, Texas A&M associate director for football communications Brad Marquardt said in a statement on Sunday, November 25, that “I don’t know who Cole Fisher is.”

At this time, LSU officials are investigating the incident.

The Texas A&M Aggies’ victory over the LSU Tigers was a historic one, as the 146 total points set Football Bowl Subdivision record for most points.

Baker Mayfield clearly still has some bad feelings towards former head coach Hue Jackson. The Cleveland Browns rookie signal-caller took to social media on Monday, November 26 to not only call out ESPN analyst Damion Woody, while also blasting Jackson, who was recently fired by the Browns before accepting an assistant gig with the division rival Cincinnati Bengals.

Mayfield was responding to a video that showed Woody questioning Mayfield’s maturity and saying that he “needs to grow up.”

Mayfield’s response was:

“Not even comparable… I didn’t lose 30+ games be fake and then do that… I wasn’t gonna have a scholarship. Good try though buddy,” Mayfield wrote.

This isn’t the first time Mayfield threw shade at Jackson, either.

Following Sunday’s game between the Browns and Cincinnati Bengals — which was a win for Cleveland — Mayfield shared his thoughts on Jackson’s move to Cincinnati at the post-game press conference while also trying to avoid his former head coach while shaking hands with opposing players in the immediate aftermath of the game.

““Left Cleveland goes down to Cincinnati. I don’t know,” Mayfield said, via NFL Network’s Marc Sessler. “That’s just somebody that’s in our locker room asking for us to play for him & then goes to a different team we play twice a year. Everybody can have their spin on it, but that’s how I feel.”

Cleveland currently sits at 4-6-1 on the season, but is riding a two-game winning streak. Up next for the Browns is a meeting against the Houston Texans on Sunday, December 2. The Browns are currently led by interim head coach Gregg Williams.
