Video Of An Inmate’s Escape Attempt Looks Like Something Out Of A Movie

Surveillance footage from the Hamilton County Courthouse in Cincinnati caught the moment that an inmate decided to risk it all and escape from custody.

Video recorded on Monday, November 5, shows 28-year-old Jeffrey Hope walking out of a holding tank as an attorney calls for a different inmate to come into the room. Once Hope makes his way out of the holding cell, he takes off down a hallway in an effort to escape before being caught by officers and taken back to a holding cell.

While Hope was ultimately caught, the video looks like something out of a movie as the inmate runs with the inspired belief that he may actually escape, despite the fact that he just ran through a room of about 10 police officers.

Hope, who was originally due in court for five counts of criminal trespassing and five counts of theft added third-degree felony for an escape to the charges against him.

via Fox 19:

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office tells FOX19 that is a secure floor of the Courthouse and the only way out is back through the courthouse, which was filled with more deputies.

Hope was slated to appear before a judge for five counts of criminal trespassing and five counts of theft. Hope’s dash down the hallway added a third-degree felony for escape to his list of charges.

Hope is slated to be back in court for both his original and his new charges on November 15. At this time, it is not known what Hope did to be charged with the original five counts of criminal trespassing and five counts of theft.

Floyd Mayweather Says He Was Misled; Will Not Fight In RIZIN FF

Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Tenshin Nasukawa RIZIN FF

YouTube/RIZIN

Floyd Mayweather Jr. won’t be fighting in RIZIN FF on New Year’s Eve against Japanese kickboxing prodigy Tenshin Nakusawa after all. On Monday, November 5, a press conference was held in Tokyo, Japan to announce Mayweather vs. Tenshin would take place on December 31 at Super Saitama Arena as part of RIZIN 14. The New Year’s Eve shows are often the biggest for Japanese promotions, so announcing a fight that was a pure spectacle did not seem out of the ordinary.

However, it looks like Mayweather may have been duped.

On Wednesday, November 7, Mayweather took to social media to issue a lengthy statement saying that he was “completely blindsided” at the press conference and that he never signed a contract.

On top of that, Mayweather says the arrangements with a bout against Tenshin were made without his consent.

“First and foremost, I want it to be clear that I, Floyd Mayweather, never agreed to an official bout with Tenshin Nasukawa. In fact (with all due respect) I have never heard of him until this recent trip to Japan. Ultimately, I was asked to participate in a 9 minute exhibition of 3 rounds with an opponent selected by the RIZIN Fighting Federation,” Mayweather wrote.

“What I was originally informed of by Brent Johnson of One Entertainment was that this was to be an exhibition put on for a small group of wealthy spectators for a very large fee. This exhibition was previously arranged as a Special Bout purely for entertainment purposes with no intentions of being represented as an official fight card nor televised worldwide. Once I arrived to the press conference, my team and I were completely derailed by the new direction this event was going and we should have put a stop to it immediately. I want to sincerely apologize to my fans for the very misleading information that was announced during this press conference and I can assure you that I too was completely blindsided by the arrangements that were being made without my consent nor approval.”

Was this all really just a misunderstanding or was it a publicity stunt to get Mayweather’s name back in the headlines? Or who knows, maybe Floyd went home and saw highlights of Tenshin and realized he may have made a terrible mistake. Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

The announcement was made to a group of around 200 administrators at an Administrative Management Council Fireside Chat.

— NYU Tisch School (@NYUTischSchool) April 16, 2018

John Beckman, the spokesperson of NYU, also confirmed that there will be a Los Angeles campus and said the university will work to provide opportunities to students across schools interested in music, film, media and more.

“What we’re thinking of is building on that base by having a program that will combine classroom work with an internship experience,” Beckman stated in an email. “It would be focused on those students who want to pursue careers in all things media, including both the creative community and the business community.”

NYU Tisch also set up newly open webpages titled “NYU In LA Mentor Program” and “Tisch Study Abroad” to assist students and alumni while experiencing life-adjustments in L.A. The website states that currently, the program begins in September and runs until late May. Applications are accepted once a year, from mid-June to early July.

“The Tisch Offices of Career Development and Alumni Relations have collaborated to create this mentorship program to facilitate your transition to the West Coast!” the site reads. “Designed for recent graduates and newly-arriving alumni, this program places participants in small support groups led by industry members, to help them begin their personal and professional transition to Los Angeles.”

Beckman also said that NYU is in the process of looking at real estate to house academics, alumni activity and student residences.

NYU Stern Of Business Is Also Interested

Washington Square News reports that Hamilton cited a significant number of students in Tisch School of the Arts, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development and Gallatin School of Individualized Studies already studying in Los Angeles. Those pursuing careers in the film or entertainment industries often intern and work in the city.

Besides Tisch, Hamilton said the Stern School of Business is also interested “in being part of an increased emphasis on Los Angeles.” The school president stated that academics play the greatest role in the university’s decisions on where to open new sites, clarifying that neither students’ preference nor the appeal of the location should be deciding factors. With many students’ academic pursuits leading them to Los Angeles, Hamilton suggested the city would be a place to watch.

Currently, NYU hasn’t released the starting date of the program.

Early in the morning on Thursday, November 8, a gunman open-fired on a local bar in Thousand Oaks, California. According to police officials, at least 12 people were killed in the latest mass shooting. The suspect was found dead of a single gunshot wound, but it is unclear who fired that shot.

The suspect was a 29-year-old white man who used a .45-caliber handgun.

Witnesses say the suspect entered the Southern California bar in Ventura County wearing all black before tossing smoke grenades and firing off approximately 30 shots with a semi-automatic weapon.

Among the fatalities are Ventura County Sheriff’s Sargeant Ron Helus, a 29-year-old veteran of the department who was a year away from retirement. Helus was one of the first to confront the shooter before dying from injuries in the hospital an hour later.

“The gunman was throwing smoke grenades all over the place,” a witness told ABC News. “I saw him point to the back of the cash register … and he just kept firing. I ran out the front door.

The shooting took place at Borderline Bar and Grill, which is a country-themed bar known for live music events and a large dance floor.

It was reportedly “College Night” at the bar when the shooting took place.

From CNN:

People “dog-piled on top of each other” trying to hide in silence, she said. Some men ran toward them and said the gunman was coming. As they escaped through the bar’s back door, she heard a second round of shots. There was no screaming, she said. Just gunfire and stampeding crowds.

“I think everyone was in so much of a shock that it was sheer panic,” Whittler said.

Nick Steinwender, who is part of the university’s student government, said his friends were inside the bar when the shooting started. He described what they told him to the affiliate.

“It was chaos, people jumping out of windows, hopping over gates and just trying to get out,” he said. “From what I heard, the gunman started shooting at the front desk. … Students were hiding in the attics, bathrooms and stuff like that.”

There is currently no word from authorities on whether the shooting had any link to terrorism, but police are continuing to investigate the matter.

28-year-old white male Ian Long has been identified as the man responsible for the deadly mass shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, that left 13 people dead. Long, who was born on March 27, 1990, is believed to have shot himself.

According to reports, Long entered the heavily populated college bar during the late hours of Wednesday, November 7, deployed a smoke bomb, and began open firing with a legally purchased .45 caliber handgun. Long reportedly drove his mother’s car to the bar where the shooting took place.

Police believe the Glock 21 .45 caliber handgun used in the shooting was legally purchased by Long in 2016.

As a result of the shooting, 13 people have died, including Long. A responding police officer, Sergeant Ron Helus, was also killed. A total of 25 other people were injured, 23 of which self-transported themselves to hospitals.

ABC has reported that Long’s neighbors said he was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps who suffered from PTSD and that they “have no idea what he was doing with a gun”.  Police — who said they had prior run-ins with Long — will be executing a search warrant of his home on Thursday, November 8.

Sheriff Geoff Dean says that Long —  who was known for police due to mental health issues, traffic infractions, and as a victim in a bar fight — met with a crisis counselor last April, who decided that he didn’t need intervention under 5150.

“Please join me in welcoming my good friend Miesha Tate to ONE Championship! She is one of the greatest female mixed martial artists in history. Above all, she has a heart of gold. Miesha will be moving to Singapore in early 2019 to join us as a Vice President,” Sityodtong wrote on Twitter.

And of course, I am excited to relocate to my new home, Singapore, and travel throughout Asia.”

The move comes on the heels of ONE Championship’s recent major acquisitions of former UFC champions Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alvarez, who will be competing in the promotion’s upcoming world grand prix tournaments.

While already a prominent force in the Asian mixed martial arts scene where it has the same popularity of the UFC, it is clear that ONE Championship is looking to expand its global reach.
