YouTube / GQ

Cody Garbrandt is an American mixed martial artist and former amateur boxer. Garbrandt is currently signed as a fighter in the UFC and is a former bantamweight champion for the company. The UFC currently ranks Garbrandt as the 11th best pound-for-pound fighter in the company and is the number one contender for the Bantamweight Championship.

Cody Garbrandt Net Worth As Of 2018: $4 million

Early Life (1991-2009):

Garbrandt was born July 7, 1991, in Uhrichsville, Ohio. Garbrandt began boxing in high school and was trained by his uncle, a former boxer as well. During this time, Garbrandt was also participating in football and wrestling for his high school. Garbrandt won state as a freshman wrestler and placed second in states the following year. Prior to his junior season in high school, Garbrandt decided to step away from wrestling in order to focus primarily on his boxing career.

After high school, Garbrandt attended both Notre Dame College and Newberry College but dropped out of both due to academic reasons. Instead of school, Garbrandt put all of his attention into boxing and his amateur career. Garbrandt finished with an amateur boxing record of 32-0 before deciding to focus on an MMA career.

Amateur & Early Pro MMA Career (2009-2016):

Garbrandt took his first amateur MMA fight in 2009. Over the next three years, Garbrandt compiled an amateur record of 6-2 before deciding to turn pro. Quickly after turning pro, Garbrandt began his professional career by winning his first five fights, all by either TKO or knockout and four of which ended in the very first round.

Garbrandt was signed to the UFC in late 2014 and made his debut in January of 2015 against Marcus Brimage. Garbrandt was able to win via TKO with just 10 seconds left in the final round. Garbrandt then won his next four fights in the UFC, finishing three in the first round.

Cruz & the Bantamweight Championship (2016-Present):

In December of 2016, Garbrandt was given a chance to fight Dominick Cruz for UFC Bantamweight title. At the time, Cruz was considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, holding a 22-1 record with his last loss coming in 2007. In a hard-fought bout that lasted the whole five rounds, Garbrandt was able to beat Cruz via unanimous decision, handing Cruz his first loss in almost a decade.

Garbrandt’s first title defense was set for November of 2017 against T.J. Dillashaw. Dillashaw was the bantamweight champion until losing his belt to Cruz. Garbrandt was knocked out in the second round, losing his belt to Dillashaw and getting the first loss of his professional MMA career. A rematch against Dillashaw is set for August 4, 2018 at UFC 227.

How To Make Quick Money While Still Being In School

It’s not easy being a college student while also being broke at the same time. It’s two factors to an equation that should never be together because the answer will always be depression.

Being broke takes away the fun in college too. Imagine being invited to a party and you can’t even spare enough to pay the entrance fee? Worse, imagine not being to pay for classes? Now that’s a nightmare.

If any of the two resonate with you, you’re probably a millenial or Gen Z. If that is the case, then all the harangue you’ve heard from your parents about how school back then for them was hard and all that is probably false. I’m not undermining them, but statistics have shown that their generations were a lot less stressed about tuition and school than ours. With that being said, let’s not beat around the bush. You got your financial struggle and I got the solution.

Let’s talk about it. Here 10 easy ways to make money in college:

1. Modeling/Being A Brand Ambassador

Woman poses for a picture

Shutterstock

With social media being the king of the internet, you already know every teenager and even adults out there are frequently on it. Marketers and companies know that as well, that’s why they’re always reaching out for young talents with a pretty face to advertise products for them. I have a friend who’s making big money modeling DW watches on Instagram. Rumors have it that the pricing goes around $100 per feature. I’m sure it depends on the number of followers you have, but money is money and you must be out of your mind to say no to that. Also, you didn’t hear that rumor from me!

2. Editing Essays

Student signing papers

Shutterstock

When times are rough, you need to apply everything you’ve learned in your life into good use, including the days in your boring high school English class learning about conjugated verbs. It is actually unbelievable how there are so many people who are so bad at writing today. If you are one of the deviants who actually paid attention in school, then you can take that to your advantage and spread the word of the service you’re offering. Remember, just edit their essays, don’t do it for them!

3. Garage Sale/Selling Online

A litter of items with price tags attached

The cliche goes like “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” I don’t know which hoarder came up with that, but I must say that it can’t be any truer. Antiques go for a lot of money these days and even if you don’t have any antiques, anything usable is sellable. Take a day to set up your garage into a shop or look up how to set up an online shop. If you have enough things to sell at a right time, maybe you can be the next Jeff Bezos.

4. Apply To Be Research Assistant

A woman drinking water with a researcher behind her.

Shutterstock

Most of the time, I guarantee that someone or some department in your school are conducting research that requires human trials. Hunt for them and read up on what you have to do. Most of them pay students who sign up for them. I remember one time I signed up for a psychology research where they put gel all over my head and then attached a metal hat filled with wires. Everything became a blur after that. Maybe they turned me into a mutant for only $20.

5. Donate Blood

Someone donating blood in a health clinic

Shutterstock

Please do not go crazy about this. There is only a certain amount of blood you’re allowed to give before you pass out. If you do this the healthy way, you could make quite a buck for your wallet and a good ring on your resume. It’s good because you get to help people out there who desperately need them. But please again, be safe with this.

6. Become A Commerical Driver:

Shutterstock

Uber, Lyft, Seamless, DoorDash, GrubHub, etc. Those are just a few to get you started… or hungry. Anyways, if you have a car, it is probably not a bad idea to sign your car up to be registered for companies stated above. That is unless you’re a really bad driver. Drivers like these reported making good money if they actually put the grind into it. The only con to this would probably be someone vomiting in your car.

7. Freelancing

Young freelancer working on info graphs.

Shutterstock

You might be a photographer. A writer. A painter. Whatever you are, you have skills that are marketable and demanded in the market. You just have to find your niche. Discovering it will open the doorway where the money will be rolling in your pocket indefinitely, all while you being your own boss with your own rules, regulations, working however long and fast you want. Hit up Google or Craigslist to see what’s going on and shoot your shot.

8. Babysitting

A baby crying

Shutterstock

Don’t let the picture fool you mate. Babysitting can be fun and make you a lot of money if you know how to choose your clients right. But you’re not in it for the money, you’re totally in it for the kids! Babysitting typically has a job description of just making sure they aren’t endangering themselves, making them lunch, taking them for walks and putting them to sleep. Average pay for that? $16. I actually submitted my resume to a few parents as I’m typing this.

9. List Your Space On Airbnb

Someone holding an Airbnb sign in front of a house.

Vacations are lovely and no one can ever say no to one. But hotels are awkwardly expensive so many flocks to its alternative, Airbnb. Listing your space is one of the best ways to make money. You literally don’t have to do anything besides doing some sheet laundry and sweeping up after their mess. A night’s stay could generate around $50-100 bucks depending on where you live. Overall it’s a really good idea. Just make sure you stay warm when you’re sleeping outside on those nights and you’ll be fine.

10. Get A Conventional Job

A man bagging groceries for a woman

Shutterstock

Getting a “real” job. The good old fashion way of making money, one of the staples of what’s it’s like to be an American, and probably the most consistent of all. “Real” is just stated as a euphemism for getting a retail or a cashier job at your local stores, jobs that are commonly held by students. They might not pay much, but they are always looking to hire young, broke college students who will almost always say yes to every shift stores need to be covered. The pay is fairly decent but the experience you will have is always going to be something you’re going to look back on with a smile. Take it lightly, a good time is what we can all ask for. We are all here for a good time, not a long time.

Upper Darby High School in Pennsylvania has been placed on lockdown due to reports of a gun on campus.

Police say that they have a student in custody who brought a pellet gun to the high school and the building remains locked down as police search for the gun.

At this time, there is “no immediate threat” to students and staff at this time. The school district announced that the lockdown had been lifted by police at 9:23 a.m. EST.

Following the initiation of the lockdown, the Upper Darby School District tweeted:

Upper Darby High School is a four-year public high school that is located in Upper Darby Township, Pennsylvania. Established in 1895, it is the oldest high school in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

The reports of a gun on the Upper Darby High School campus in Pennsylvania is just the latest in a string of evacuations, lockdowns, bomb threats, and shootings that have plagued the United States.

Over the course of the past few years, shootings and lockdowns such as these have been a scourge upon the country and people have struggled with coming up with a solution. Lockdowns have become all too common as a means of protection when students and faculty are in danger and today is no different.

This incident follows similar incidents at Dodd Middle School in Connecticut, Windham Public Schools also in Connecticut, Pacoima Middle School in Los Angeles, Millennium Middle School in Florida, and US Grant High School in Oklahoma, which are just some of the places where events such as this have occurred.

The Mac Miller Benefit Concert Was As Celebratory As It Was Heartbreaking

On Halloween night in Los Angeles, thousands of fans and artists flocked to the Greek Theatre to celebrate the life of the late Mac Miller, who tragically passed away in September due to a presumed overdose.

In an effort to raise money for his charity, The Mac Miller Circles Foundation, a massive benefit show was held in Los Angeles that featured performances and appearances from Chance The Rapper, John Mayer, Travis Scott, Action Bronson, Anderson .Paak, Ty Dolla $ign, SZA, Vince Staples, Schoolboy Q, and more.

The show, which was as celebratory as it was heartbreaking, saw some of Mac’s closest friends in the music industry come out to perform in his honor and say a couple of words about their fallen friend and collaborator. My personal highlight in a night full of them was John Mayer covering Small Worlds, a song which he helped him produce:

Small Worlds love you @MacMiller @JohnMayer pic.twitter.com/mVEB8pbq8T

— Flame Princess (@babynessod) November 1, 2018

However, the saddest part of the night came at the end of the show when everyone in attendance — including Mac’s family — was brought on stage during a montage scored by “Best Day Ever” (the first video cuts off, but you can pick up where you left off with the second video):

The ending of @macmiller’s A Celebration of Life was incredible. We miss you Malcolm. pic.twitter.com/TDfojUNbhB

The end of Mac Miller’s: Celebration Of Life tribute #RipMacMiller 👼🏼 pic.twitter.com/iOmg6sJ6nn

— lills (@LillsAllure) November 1, 2018

The image alone of Vince Staples and John Mayer consoling Mac’s mother shows just how far-reaching Mac’s love and spirit truly was, and how his unique ability to connect all corners of the entertainment industry is something that will be missed.

As someone who grew up listening to Mac Miller, while his death still doesn’t feel real, last night reminded me what a life well-lived looks like.

Rest in peace, Malcolm.

Freddie Highmore, an insanely talented actor with extremely well-known shows and movies like Bates Motel and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is continuing to amaze audiences all around the world with his performance. But just exactly how much cash has the Good Doctor lead accumulated so far?

Net Worth of Freddie Highmore: $145 Million Dollars

Let’s see how he got it all.

Early Life: 1992-2013

Freddie Highmore, born on February 14, 1992, in London, England, first got the acting bug at the early age of seven years old. His father Edward Highmore, also was an actor. Edward starred in British television favorites like Doctor Who and an English soap Howard’s Way.

Freddie started working in television before he made a name for himself on the big screen. He starred in shows like Women Talking Dirty in 1999. He played a young King Arthur on TNT’s The Mists of Avalon in 2001. Then he began his film career in movies like Two Brothers in 2004, Five Children and It. Freddie’s biggest movie which skyrocketed him into success was Finding Neverland in 2004 as well. This later helped his land the iconic role of Charlie in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring alongside Johnny Depp.

Although Freddie had an acting and theatrical performance upbringing, he attended a normal school. When he was in LA auditioning for roles he would put his acting hat on. But when he returned home to London it was homework and chores as usual. Highmore continued schooling through college, managing to complete his university degree at England’s Cambridge University majoring in both Arabic and Spanish. He graduated right as he was about to shoot the first season of “Bate’s Motel” in 2013.

From Bates Motel to Prime Time: 2013-Present

Highmore landed the role of the iconic Alfred Hitchcock Pyscho horror movie character Norman Bates in 2013. He played Norman’s younger self in the prequel series which lead up to the events that took place in the classic movie. When Bates Motel ended in 2017, Highmore immediately lept from one character to another, as he began preparing for what would be the hit ABC show The Good Doctor.

The Good Doctor premiered in September 2017 and quickly created an extremely large fan following. Freddie played the role of Dr. Shaun Murphy a genius doctor with autism. Highmore said while preparing for this role really wanted to get to know the character on an emotional level. So he went to work with high functioning Autistic people of the same age as the character he was playing. He wanted to be able to develop an emotional understanding of their everyday struggles and truly bring to life his character in the most realistic and compassionate way possible.

Freddie did just that receiving countless praise for how in-depth he played the character of Dr. Shaun Murphy. Highmore truly performs with an outstanding understanding of each character he plays. He is able to put his heart and soul into every part he does. Which allows the audience to grasp the emotion that went into playing the character.

Freddie Highmore prides himself in taking his acting very seriously, although it is his passion. He knows it’s his responsibility to play a character true to the way it was written and true to himself! I can’t wait to see which role Freddie takes on next!

Brian Brennan, a vice principal at Oakville High School in St. Louis, Missouri, found himself in the middle of an altercation after being attacked by a group of students. Video surfaced on Snapchat that showed Brennan attempting to break up a fight. Once Brennan attempted to do so, he was attacked by a group of students who dragged and kicked him while bystanders laughed and cheered them on.

Three students — a 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds — were taken into custody following the attack.

From the report:

The three students were taken into custody after the incident however they won’t be charged as they are juveniles. The case has been taken to St. Louis County Family Court. Principal Jan Kellerman sent a letter to parents to reassure them their children were safe attending the school after they received a string of calls from those anxious about students and staff. The students involved may be expelled from school.

“We are investigating the matter and discipline will be rendered as detailed in our district disciplinary policy,” Kellerman’s letter read. “It’s the most important thing we do here and all our students are safe,’ she said, adding that they are looking at their current policy for handling physical altercations.

“After any kind of altercation we always discuss things like is there something else we need to be doing.”

You can watch the troubling video below.

“Administrators and a school resource officer intervened to break the fight up. All students and staff are okay,” Assistant Superintendent, Dr Jeff Bressler told Fox2.

“Obviously we take all fighting seriously. We would love to see fighting stop in all high schools. Safety is our priority and we’re always looking into how we can support students so they don’t resort to violence.”

According to school officials, Brennan was taken into urgent care following the attack.

Shepherdsville Police Department

Dusty Witherspoon, a Kentucky high school Spanish teacher, has been charged with making terroristic threats and criminal trespassing after she caused a soft lockdown at Bullitt Central High School, in Shepherdsville, Kentucky.

According to reports, Witherspoon caused a lockdown at Bullitt Central High School on Wednesday, October 31, after she showed up on the school’s campus and threatened to ‘f**k some s**t up’ despite the fact that she was already suspended.

Investigators Witherspoon showed up at Bullitt Central and spoke with an administrator, who told her that the terms of her suspension barred her from school grounds. Witherspoon reportedly briefly left before allegedly trying to use another entrance to the school.

Finally, Witherspoon sent a text message to a fellow Bullitt Central High School teacher saying: “I’m about to f**k some s**t up…if they wanna get ugly it’s going to get reeeaaalll ugly. I’m at my limit. I’ve put up with enough s**t. I’m done.”

via WDRB:

“(The threat) was not specific toward any of the students or any of the faculty or staff, but obviously, it was very agitated, very aggressive, very angry and the threats definitely met the criteria of terroristic threatening,” Shepherdsville Police Chief Rick McCubbin said.

Bullitt County Schools attorney Eric Farris said that the district took the precaution of putting students on the “soft lockdown.” He said the safety of students was never in question.

Following the lockdown, Witherspoon was taken into police custody and was booked into the Bullitt County Jail. At this time, it is unknown why Witherspoon was originally suspended.

Eric Farris, the attorney for Bullitt County School District, said that the lockdown was merely a precaution taken by the district and that the safety of students was “never in question.”

The Shepherdsville Police Department has asked anyone with additional information about Witherspoon to call authorities at (502) 921-1000.

University Of Maryland Fired Football Coach One Day After Reinstating Him

Former UMD Coach DJ Durkin

NBC News

D.J. Durkin, the head football coach at the University of Maryland, is fired Wednesday, October 31, one day after the Board of Regents had reinstated him following a suspension after freshman player Jordan McNair died in June.

According to For The Win, the criticism against Maryland for bringing Durkin back was swift and ample, coming from current Terrapin players, McNair’s parents and the media. On May 29, McNair was hospitalized for heat stroke and exhaustion during a team workout, and on June 13, he died at age 19.

What Happened?

According to Testudo Times, former University of Maryland football coach D.J. Durkin has been fired. The decision was made one day after the school’s Board of Regents reinstated him through an announcement on Tuesday, October 30.

The news of Durkin’s firing was first reported by The Washington Post’s Rick Maese, who later reported that the school is not firing him for the cause but rather buying him out of his contract.

“The chair of the Board of Regents has publicly acknowledged that I had previously raised serious concerns about Coach Durkin’s return,” UMD President Wallace Loh said in a statement Tuesday. “This is not at all a reflection of my opinion of Coach Durkin as a person. However, a departure is in the best interest of the University.”

According to ESPN, Loh “acted alone in deciding to fire Durkin, a source told ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, not consulting the board of regents. Loh informed athletic director Damon Evans of his decision and Evans fired Durkin. Durkin was ‘surprised’ by the school’s decision, the source said.”

A Maryland player told ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren that Evans informed the team Durkin was fired in a team meeting. The player said no one asked any questions.

“We feel gratified that some justice has been done, that Dr. Loh took it upon himself to do the right thing,” Marty McNair, Jordan’s father, told SportsCenter on Wednesday night.

Maryland offensive lineman Johnny Jordan was McNair’s roommate, and he spoke to reporters Wednesday after learning Durkin was fired, saying: “The right decision was made for justice for Jordan.”

These past 5 months have been the most difficult times of my life and I’ve learned a lot. The people who stuck with me through it all I will be forever grateful to. Those who didn’t, thanks for the “support.” Justice for Jordan has been served. #JordanStrong #79Forever pic.twitter.com/f1pd1jaIkp

Every Saturday my teammates and I have to kneel before the memorial of our fallen teammate. Yet a group of people do not have the courage to hold anyone accountable for his death. — Ellis McKennie (@emck_cubed97) October 30, 2018

Who Is D.J. Durkin?

Durkin is the former football head coach for the University of Maryland. Before Maryland, he was the defensive coordinator at the University of Michigan.

He had been on administrative leave since August 11 as the University System of Maryland Board of Regents oversaw an investigation into his program and coaching methods after media reports detailed allegations of bullying and abuse at the hands of Durkin and strength coach Rick Court in the wake of Jordan McNair’s death in June. Offensive coordinator Matt Canada, who joined the staff in January, was elevated to interim head coach in Durkin’s absence. Canada is returning to that position.

Durkin was placed on administrative leave since August 11. He came back to the team on Tuesday and was present at Maryland’s practice. Three players walked out of the team’s first meeting after Durkin returned. According to Athletic CFB reporter Bruce Feldman, another group of players was absent from practice Wednesday.

This reversal comes on the heels of calls from across the state for the University System of Maryland Board of Regents to reconsider its decision to recommend Durkin and AD Damon Evans return to their posts. Governor Larry Hogan was one such official.

University President Wallace Loh made the decision amid growing outrage from faculty, students and lawmakers. NBC’s Tom Costello reports for TODAY.

According to the event page on Facebook, the “Justice for Jordan” rally will still be held on Thursday, November 1 at 3:30 P.M. to “support the McNair family and student-athletes in our Maryland Terp family.”

While in college, there is literally no better time of the year than October.

The weather is still decent and football season is in full swing. The morning air at tailgates is crisp and the Natty Lights are just as cold. It’s still relatively early in the academic year, so class isn’t too difficult either. Everything is just perfect …and we haven’t even gotten to Halloween.

Halloween Weekend is the crown jewel weekend in the life of a college student. The parties are bigger, the drinks are cheaper, and the costumes … the costumes are usually out of this world.

While guys usually cut corners (as we usually do) as go as something lame like a basketball player or Clark Kent, girls have turned Halloween costumes in an art form. And we aren’t just talking college girls, we’re talking all of them, including celebrities, who once again went all out this year.

But who had the hottest one? We’ll let you decide.

Google employees around the world walked out of their offices on Thursday, November 1, in a global protest the internet giant’s lenient treatment of executives accused of sexual misconduct, CNN reports.

Google staff in Singapore, Zurich, London, Tokyo, Berlin and New York were among those to take part.

— Ted (@TedOnPrivacy) November 1, 2018

What Happened?

The protest, scheduled for Thursday at 11:10 A.M. local time across the globe and dubbed “Google Walkout For Real Change,” follows an outcry over a New York Times investigation detailed allegations of sexual misconduct about creator of Google’s Android software, Andy Rubin. The investigation detailed years of sexual harassment allegations, multimillion-dollar severance packages for accused executives, and a lack of transparency over the cases.

Rubin denied the allegations in a tweet, saying the article contained “numerous inaccuracies” and “wild exaggerations.”

2/2 to disparage me during a divorce and custody battle. Also, I am deeply troubled that anonymous Google executives are commenting about my personnel file and misrepresenting the facts.

— Andy Rubin (@Arubin) October 26, 2018

However, the Times uncovered new details, including a reported $90 million exit package that Rubin is said to have been granted when he departed the company. The Times reported that Rubin was accused of coercing a female employee, with whom he’d been having affair, into performing oral sex in a hotel room in 2013. A Google investigation found her claim to be credible and then-CEO Larry Page asked Rubin to resign, according to the Times.

The same story also disclosed allegations of sexual misconduct of other executives, including Richard DeVaul, a director at the same Google-affiliated lab that created far-flung projects such as self-driving cars and Internet-beaming balloons. DeVaul had remained at the “X” lab after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced about him a few years ago, but he resigned Tuesday without severance, Google confirmed Wednesday, October 31.

CNN reports that Rubin’s lawyer Sam Singer disputed the allegations in the Times report.

“None of the allegations made about Mr. Rubin are true,” he told CNN Business in a statement while calling them “demonstrably false.”

Google chief executive Sundar Pichai has told staff he supports their right to take the action, according to BBC News.

“I understand the anger and disappointment that many of you feel,” Pichai said in an all-staff email. “I feel it as well, and I am fully committed to making progress on an issue that has persisted for far too long in our society… and, yes, here at Google, too.”

ABC News reports that in an email last week, Pichai and Eileen Naughton, Google’s executive in charge of personnel issues, sought to reassure workers that the company had cracked down on sexual misconduct since Rubin’s departure four years ago.

“In the last two years, 48 people have been terminated for sexual harassment, including 13 who were senior managers and above. None of these individuals received an exit package,” Pichai stated in a Google memo.

“Google Walkout For Real Change”

Thursday’s walkout could signal that a significant number of the 94,000 employees working for Google and its corporate parent Alphabet Inc. remained unconvinced the company is doing enough to adhere to Alphabet’s own mantra, urging all employees to “do the right thing.”

Before Google employees got to work in the United States, around 150 Google employees in India participated in the walkouts, a company spokesman in the country told CNN. Google (GOOGL) has about 2,000 staff members across Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Demonstrations were also reported at the company’s Singapore and Tokyo offices.

In Europe, a small group of Google employees walk out at the company’s London headquarters. A larger protest was reported in Zurich, Switzerland, CNN reports.

A Silicon Valley congresswoman tweeted her support of the Google walkout using the hashtag “#MeToo” that is now synonymous with a global movement for fighting sexual misconduct.

“Why do they think it’s OK to reward perpetrators & further violate victims?” Representative Jackie Speier said, who represents an affluent district where many of Google’s employees live.

A Google spokesperson in Singapore said he couldn’t provide details on how many people took part in the walkouts at offices in that city or Tokyo, which each have more than 1,000 employees.
Organizers of the walkouts said they expected more than 1,500 people–mostly women–to take part across nearly two dozen Google offices around the world, according to the New York Times.

In the United States, there are hundreds of posts on social media using the hashtag #googlewalkout.

Who Is Andy Rubin?

Andrew “Andy” Rubin is the founder and CEO of tech startup Playground Global and a partner at venture capital form Redpoint Ventures. He is also co-founder and former CEO of both Android Inc. and Danger Inc. Rubin was also called the “Father of Android.”

Rubin left Google four years ago in 2014 to create Playground Global, an incubator for hardware startups.

But following his exit, the claim was reported to Google’s human resources department and subsequently an investigation was opened. But just a few weeks into the investigation, Rubin was given an additional stock package of $150 million. According to the Times, that stock package was unusually high by Google’s standards.
Rubin was later asked to resign by Google’s co-founder, Larry Page.

According to the Times, Rubin’s ex-wife, Rie, filed a civil suit this month. In the suit, she claimed he had multiple ‘ownership relationships’ with other women during their marriage and paid the women hundreds of thousands of dollars. They finalized their divorce in August.

Uber Pro & ASU’s New College Plan: A Switch Of Lane For Drivers

Uber is rolling out a new program for elite drivers in its company that might take their careers into another lane. Offering to pay their college tuition, Uber Pro might just be one of the newest strategies that will help attract more customers and boost morale for its drivers.

What Is Happening?

Uber is offering to pay the cost of college for its top drivers or their family member as a part of their new program called Uber Pro.

But before you get too excited, Uber set this programs with criteria and quotas that need to be met. This offer won’t be available to all drivers who qualify for Uber Pro. The catch to this is the dynamics of its system known as “tiered rewards system.” A tiered rewards system is fundamentally geared towards rewarding gifts or redeemable points to customers who spend more. In other words, Uber uses this for its drivers by allowing them to accumulate points by completing more trips. The points can be used to redeem selected offers which undoubtedly encourages more drivers to stay on the road.

Another beneficial thing about this program is that drivers will be able to claim cash back on fuel purchases and car maintenance costs according to Engadget.

Nonetheless, if drivers are qualified, the free tuition Uber covers only applies to online classes taken through Arizona State University.

ASU President Michael Crow and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi wrote a joint opinion post on AZ Central to promote their collaboration.

When opportunity arises, move. #DoorsAreAlwaysOpening pic.twitter.com/bww8H8uslv

— Uber (@Uber) September 17, 2018

“Flexibility is foundational to our two enterprises. For Uber, this means being able to earn in ways that fit your schedule. For ASU, this means being able to learn in ways that fit your life. We believe there is an opportunity to bring the power of our platforms together to expand access to flexible work and flexible education, and opportunities that come with both.”

While this offer can be transferred to a family member, may it be a spouse, child, sibling etc, Uber is willing to only cover one person.

What Are The Criteria?

In order to qualify for Uber Pro, drivers must maintain a customer rating score of 4.85 and above. If the score falls below that bar, they have opportunities to raise it back up before they get removed from the process. However, if the driver’s score reaches below a 4.75, there won’t be any chances to redeem oneself, as they get removed automatically. In a leaked research article by Business Insider, the majority of Uber drivers fall between the scores of a 4.70 and 4.80.

If you’re worried about your own Uber customer rating, here are 9 ways Business Insider recommend to boost it up:

  1. Offer passengers bottled water, chewing gum, snacks, mints, and phone chargers.
  2. Keep your car clean and well-maintained
  3. Dress appropriately.
  4. Open the door
  5. Offer to carry bags
  6. Take the best route
  7. Be nice
  8. Pick up the right rider
  9. Don’t ask for a five-star rating

Who Is Steven Wooding? Full Story Of Stabbing At Cabrillo College

A former state hospital psychiatric patient with a restraining order by Cabrillo College went to campus on October 31, 2018, and stabbed a student at the campus cafeteria. Police are saying that it was an unprovoked attacked.

What Happened?

Steven Wooding, an alumnus of Cabrillo College, stabbed a 19 years old student with a 14-inch knife in an unprovoked attack. The student ambled out the cafeteria and succumbed to her injuries on the campus lawn.

Prior to this attack, Wooding has issued a three-year restraining order to stay at least 100 feet from Cabrillo College and its employees.

When the attack happened, students claimed they heard a woman screaming around 11:00 am after she was stabbed at a cash register. Davod Kamoss, a professor on campus, said he was traumatized by the incident. He was a crucial witness to this attack who cited that Wooding was wearing a baseball cap with a shaved head, carrying a 14-inch knife.

Kamoss rushed to restrain Wooding after the stabbing.

“He was walking in my direction. He said not a word,” Kamoss said to Mercury News. “We had him pinned down maybe five, 10 minutes. We called on the guys on the football team to surround him.”

Despite the huge commotion, many believed that this was all part of a Halloween prank.

When detectives came, they scoured the area and assessed the blood trail. They later determined that the student put up a struggle by running before getting stabbed.

Wooding is an alumnus of the college and also has a history of mental illnesses. He was also a former state hospital psychiatric patient at three different hospitals. He is also an avid practitioner of martial arts.

His criminal record is filled with charges of assault, starting with the usage of tear gas and violently clubbing a psychology professor in the face with an ax. He also sprayed caustic liquid at students face and clubbed them as well.

Before this attack, Wooding warned authorities multiple times through 100 emails and 50 voicemails that he is prone to offend again, but authorities dismissed his frantic warnings due to no signs of any clear threat.

Despite his early warnings to authorities to stop him, Wooding does not have a benign attitude towards cops. On July 6, 2018. Wooding emailed the Sentinel, saying law enforcement are the ones to blame for rising criminal problems.

“This is a good example of what happens when law enforcement does not do their job,” Wooding wrote. “Things get out of hand and they escalate.” The crime was not specified.

In the same email to the Sentinel, he also wrote,

“I wanted to reiterate that I am in contact with as many branches of law enforcement as possible,” Wooding wrote. “I am doing everything in my ability to avoid offending, and I am the target of a criminal conspiracy, and I have been framed.”

Wooding is currently still being held at a holding cell awaiting trial.
